So after weeks of research and test drives, I just bought a 2019 Outlander SEL with the touring pack. I wanted a cheap three row SUV for when my friends and I go to my beach house - we can all travel in one car. I looked at virtually everything in the category. The Outlander offered the most features for the best value. The Mitsubishi outlander is Made in Japan as compared to some of its competitors. Extremely well built and reliable. Bonus - Amazing AWD system...almost Subaru like.
We have an older Outlander. I was looking at the more current reviews like this, as Consumer Reports ripped it up, all kinds of complaints. Interestingly the older reviews on our car had criticisms for things I find to be an advantage. Like how that car's third seats fold into the floor, and are small. They're small in this car, too but honestly we don't use them. They are for occasional use, we don't have kids but visiting kids can still ride. I love that. In fact I think this newer car with the bigger third seat would put that seat in our way most of the time. I think it would make a better two row, but with that said again, having the occasional seats is still an advantage. Consumer Reports just hated it.
My outlander has 89000 miles on it, getting 28.2 mpg, and never had issue, only changed tires, breaks and battery once... All original Japan parts....Reliability often check on first 50k mile, this is very good car. I shouldn't ask more for this car for money I have spent and saved..Always trust people who really drives the car..
Awesome. I've had a 2004 Mitsubishi sedan (i.e. made in Japan) and 234,000 miles later, it's still running strong - same transmission, same engine, same air conditioning. Truth be told, I went through unemployment and had my share of struggles and wasn't able to keep up with regular oil changes and regular maintenance. Outside the U.S., Mitsubishi (& Toyota) are regarded highly and have more name recognition than even Honda.
Ravi Peiris in Australia Mitsubishi is the 3rd top selling brand. However we also have a bigger range than America. Mirage, lancer (discontinues 2019), ASX ( outlander sort) Outlander + Phev, Eclipse Cross, Triton (ute), Pajero Sport and Pajero (Montero). All great cars.
Funny that here in Japan Mitsubishi sells less than unknown companies like Daihatsu and Suzuki. But in South east asia and middle east Mitsubishi is still stronk!
Love Mitsubishi Outlander. Plenty power for regular family driving, 3rd row is tight but my Ford Explorer was very tight too, very good mpg(28-29 mixed), good AWD for the price. It feels very light compared to Ford Explorer. Over all it is a very good investiment. Some parts of this video are misleading, just my opinion!
We just purchased a 2016 Outlander GT. I have had it two days and my son and I just completed a 600 mile baseball weekend in it. It ran flawless, was comfortable, quiet and roomy. We picked it because for the price and year it had way more features then the Traverse and Arcadia of same year and price point. If you can find one, and need a family mover, you will not be disappointed. Plus the 2016 looks like it could have been released last year the styling and tech is so advanced. My only cons are the buttons feel cheap for the LKA and Proximity warning and the turn stalk fells and sounds like your breaking celery every time you engage it. I found myself just holding it until I executed the turn or just tapped it for 3 blink mode. It's a under rated, under appreciated vehicle.
Probably should be compared with the Dodge Journey as I believe they are priced very similarly, both have standard 4 cylinder with v6 options and both can be had with 3 rows

The competition gets pricey very fast compared to the Mitsu. I had one many years ago and it was reliable if not sophisticated. I have a soft spot for Mitsu and will get another one someday.
I have an 09 Outlander, and have had at least 5 CRV's and a Rav4, while your not gonna win a speed race off the line, it seems to ride a lot better, my wife and I really like it.
I see the Sport everywhere. Super popular. It's pretty cute but it lacks some basic things I want: power seats, sunroof and the trim I saw didn't have heated seats as optional. I wish they'd pack the sport with more luxuries because it's a great size for one driver. In 2019s, I couldn't believe a top trim no longer has sunroofs or power seats.
Your reviews are great! I would like to add however that the LE trim did not go away. I work for a Mitsubishi/Honda dealership. The main difference from the 2018 LE I believe are the seats, which now have different inserts which are like a suede type material.
Here in australia, we have choice of 3 engines, 1) 2 lt(same as the lancer eng), with a 5 speed manual, fwd only, in base model ES. 2) 2.4 lt (same as usa spec), mid spec & upper spec LS & Exceed, awd & cvt. 3) 2.2 lt diesel, awd & 6 speed auto, optional in LS & exceed.. Here in aussie, diesel is the pick, but a $2500 extra option.
2.4L engine is too old design. Mitsu should bring in the 2.2L diesel engine to North America. Also drop old 2.4L with a 2.0L with turbo to keep up with the competition.

It's hard to find the real competitors for the outlander since it's size sort of falls between midsize and compact. I think when it comes to decide which one to get you gotta go for price. It's less expensive than most midsize SUV's and bigger than most compact SUV's.
Alejandro Moya Cardellá The car that people say that is a compact SUV is the Dodge Journey and I have one and it looks way bigger than a RAV4, CRV and rogue, if you put a Journey next to a Highlander they look almost the same size, because they almost are, the Journey length is 192.4 in and the Highlander length is 192.5 in, is true that the Highlander is a little wider, but a Journey (compact suv) as long as a mid size Highlander, that’s crazy 😅
The Karoq is a decent mid sized suv, and all the extras as standard you get!! Tad bit more expensive yes but a quality car from VW. Not sure if ye can get them in America
@@fergspan5727 ... here's my opinion. The Dacia Lodgy is much larger, much less expensive, more fuel efficient, and will last for a lifetime with few problems. The only problem? It doesn't have as many options :(
Design Language, combined with Value more often than Not is difference with Success and Failure. And here is where the All New 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander SUV is Game Changer for Mitsubishi Motors? I often wonder why some Car Manufacturers find it so hard to design great vehicles. At last, Mitsubishi has Designed a SUV with Universal Appeal!!! The All New 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander!!!
Wait, is the Outlander actually a compact? I thought it was much bigger and competed with cars like the Toyota Highlander and Ford Explorer? If it is compact 3 row, might be better to compare with Dodge Journey?
I just got a 2016 GT and it sits as high as an explorer but it's def not as wide and heavy. Still I think it's a great option as a used car just on looks and tech alone. It competes with 2020+ builds as a 2016 in tech and style. You don't feel like your driving a 7 year old car.
Hi E.D. What's your opinion on this: I just bought a 2016 Hyundai Veloster Turbo and I really wanna drive it hard but only if it won't damage the engine over time. Are these cars built to be revved high all day long provided the engine is warm and you don't hit redline? Or am I only supposed to occasionally floor it when needed, and "granny drive" daily? Thanks.
My 2016 GT runs great, much cheaper than Highlander or CX-9, not as good but not much worse. Paid $25,000 for year old 7,000 mi, these originally had $5,000 rebate and depreciate like crazy so year old GT V6 with $36,000 msrp costs about same as plain 4 cyl RAV4 or CRV
@@wtrdogg20 I agree. It is a Compact SUV with a 3rd row crammed in the back but in terms of size and volume space it is a compact and not a mid-size. Mitsubishi's mid-size is the Montero although is not offered in the US.
@@andresdlv Correct, for some market the new Montero Sport is the Mid Size and the Montero/Pajero/Shogun is their large size SUV. The 3rd row seat is as cramped a in the Nissan Rogue, which is a Small or Compact SUV.
Andres Delavega Yes is a compact SUV because of the dimensions, It can’t be a mid size, It would be competing with the: Highlander, pathfinder, pilot, Santa Fe, etc. But you know something people and I think even dodge say that the Dodge Journey is a compact SUV that compete with the: RAV4, CRV, rogue, etc and I have a Journey and it looks way bigger, you can even see at google that the Journey is almost the same size of a Toyota Highlander. Dodge Journey, Length (192.4 in) and the Toyota Highlander, length (192.5 in). The Highlander is just 0.5 in longer than the journey, almost nothing 🤷🏻♂️ but the Highlander is a little wider, I think is a better option over the outlander 🤷🏻♂️
If you put down the 2nd & 3rd rows, can a 6 ft. tall adult put a sleeping bag in the back and sleep comfortably? Is there enough room to stretch out your legs while lying down?
1.85m of space with normal driving position of front seats for a 5'10" driver, which could easily stretch to 2m by sliding the front seats when needed. So you'll be fine.
'fraid not. You'll have to rip your CDs to mp3 and have them on your phone to stream over BT or stick them on a USB drive. I STRONGLY recommend using a short USB extension on the drive or you risk breaking the drive off and damaging the port.
Forward Collision Warning system does not warn based on relative speed, it only gives if the front car is stand still. in real world we need for a slow moving front car while you are approaching in high speed. a little Garmin GPS "Garmin 010-N1682-02 Drive Assist 51 NA LMT-S" does a better job. I finally bought this GPS for warning. My old Subaru FMC was far far better.
Hello everyman driver in ur review was ur driver seat all the way back because it seem like your knees look really close to the dash area I guess is kind of small up front
Renting one right now as my car's getting treated for hail damage... from the start, it's EVERYTHING I HATE about the majority of crossovers. But it's starting to grow on me... just slightly...
The CVT is what worries me. I've never owned anything other than traditional geared transmissions. I'm in the market right now and gave these a look, however quickly turned sway after learning it had the CVT. Should I give it a second look?
Been wanting one for a long time. Many members of my family swear by mits and I've heard only.amazing things about reliability. My mother in law rented an Outlander sport and it was kinda cramped (mind you my spouse and I are tall people hes 6'1 I'm 5"8) is the Outlander more spacious I really want to get one
Sounds to me like they need to trade the CVT out for an automatic and put a few more Ponies under the hood. Then if they keep the price down they could probably sell better. As for the KIA how much more will it cost a person to get the KIA? It sounded like a pretty nice crossover.
cvt isnt as bad in the Outlander as the other companies... still a bad tranny but still better than the rest. from what I've read anyways... I wanted one of these but it's too small for my family.
Only Lt. Dan can fit in the second row if there is someone in the third row.
5 років тому+1
I have a 2015 outlander with the 2.4 and CVT. The cvt gave out a 4 months ago but was warrantied. The CVTs are junk especially the shatco ones. I'm afraid to own it any longer. Even Toyota can't make a decent CVT minus the ecvt because it's geared. they're recalling a lot. The transmission is the weakest link of the whole thing. The engines are good.
@Linize Korean cars are selling like a hot cake these days. Amount of features, comfort and convenience that you get with them is unbeatable. Mitsubishi is history now. They won't be able to stack up against Korean cars. Hell Hyundai is one of the top 5 automakers in the World now. There's a reason for that. New Hyundai Santa Fe is miles better than this Outlander. I guess you have a horrible taste.
Or...If you need that, and want to tow a boat/RV, and get off road, and have it last 300k miles before you sell it and still can make decent money on it's high resale, get a Toyota Sequoia.
@@everymandriver That 4 banger would be painful to drive especially with a few bodies in it. The gas mileage of that V6 is in the low 20's & requires Premium.
3rd row isnt even usable, I wanted to buy one because it was cheap but I need that 3rd row and dont tell me to buy a minivan because where I live u need a 4wd or awd...
Stargell Blackstar there are awd vans, both the Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey have awd I hear the Honda version is better though. Or their is the Subaru ascent which is the new Subaru suv it is bigger then the outback and has a 3rd row
Buy a Japanese-imported Toyota Coaster with 4WD and a bulletproof diesel engine. Washington state has them sitting on lots right now, as there are JDM importers near ports over in Washington.
So the 2.4 L barely pushes the Lancer and they decide to shove it in something twice the size and twice the weight it’s almost as if Mitsubishi doesn’t want to sell vehicles
The Lancer with that power train weighs 3,142 lbs. That Outlander weighs 3,527 lbs. Change the gearing ratio a little (which they did) and they perform almost the same.
The Mitsubishi Outlander has multi issues, Faulty fuel pump, faulty transmission. Mitsubishi replaced the Fuel Pump free of cost During 2011 which was my model. I had the major issues with the transmission/DVT, My entire engine collapsed. I took Mitsubishi to court and won the legal battle after 3 years. During 2016 Mitsubishi recalled 80,000 vehicles for free replacement of the CVT. Check the internet you will get enough complaints and information to substantiate these issues.
Mitsubishi worldwide is very popular but in the States it doesn´t receive much love. A shame since I´ve never had issues with their vehicles. They´re not the fanciest or most technologically advanced but they are inexpensive down to earth basic vehicles that serve their purpose.
Not much changed since 2007 when I got my Mitsubishi Oulander XLS. They still use the same engine v6 3.0 and same transmission. It’s been 12 years! This company is not going to make it any longer.

I have noticed a lot of videos from Southeast Asia showing love for Mitsubishi.
Mitsubishi has strong sales in SE Asia for they build cars without frills.
Pajero Sport, which is a pick-up based SUV, sell like hot cakes.
I have an endeavor that did run over 15k miles without oil changes the engine was smooth during the ordeal, making 75 mph regularly.
I have a Dodge Journey GT 2018 and Is being a perfect car with no problems, what I notice is that is supposed to be a small SUV but comparing it with all the the small SUV’s: rav4, rogue, CRV, outlander, etc, the journey is a lot bigger, is almost as long as a highlander( mid size SUV) , and is the most powerful of all of them, with the 3.6 V6 pentastar with 283hp, the engine I think is the most refine of all small SUV’s ( not sure the most reliable) the 6 speed auto is very very smooth, the bad is that the fuel economy for the size of the car is not good, 16 mpg city and 23 high way, Is the only thing that I don’t like, the other thing is that being a 2018 top trim, in the front it has full halogen lights, how that can be possible even in the most expensive model, and the other thing is that, how the most expensive model doesn’t have a automatic liftgate 😕
I like the outlander a lot but It doesn’t seems a good option to go with a brand that now on 2020 just have 1 very popular car, the outlander and maybe the outlander sport( ASX ) and the mirage 🥴
The front end has that classic montero look that i love. I've seen black one today with ski rack on top it looked really nice
The competition gets pricey very fast compared to the Mitsu. I had one many years ago and it was reliable if not sophisticated. I have a soft spot for Mitsu and will get another one someday.
I have a 2017 SE, great car and awesome MPG. Very well built in my opinion, never had issues with it.
I have an 09 Outlander, and have had at least 5 CRV's and a Rav4, while your not gonna win a speed race off the line, it seems to ride a lot better, my wife and I really like it.
This was super helpful, I learned that this car isn’t what I was looking for. Thank you so much!
I am loving my outlander sport. Maybe I’ll look into the outlander next. Can’t beat the price and warranties.
I'm a Mitsubishi fan, is very reliable.
I'm 5ft tall, this SUV is huge! I have the outlander sport right now but when I can afford it in going to upgrade to the Outlander.
What review? He didn't even drive the car! next he will review Burger King but wont eat the food....IDIOTS
I still see the LE trim level listed on Mitsubishi's website for 2019.
We have a 17 Outlander GT we ordered... Approx. 30k later we still love it. Confident, flexible Seating, love the old school V6. No direct injection, no turbos, just simple tried and true 100% Japanese Design 👌😁
That and the "same ol same ol" V6 is the 3.0 litre Mitsu has been using for years. It's a tried and true design.
Do you still have the gt? How's the longevity? And gas mileage
@@the_classix yepper.. 73k and going strong. Just oil changes, trans fluid change, and its on its 3rd set of tires👌😁 Oh and 3 windshields from construction zones😜

Excellent review! Felt like I knew the whole care at the end.
It's hard to find the real competitors for the outlander since it's size sort of falls between midsize and compact. I think when it comes to decide which one to get you gotta go for price. It's less expensive than most midsize SUV's and bigger than most compact SUV's.
Alejandro Moya Cardellá it's the same size as the Nissan rogue
@@ALEX-sh3tx yes it is. But people often compare it to bigger suvs like Murano or even higlander
nissan sucks
ALEX 1 the rogue is wider and a bit longer and bit taller 😅
Alejandro Moya Cardellá The car that people say that is a compact SUV is the Dodge Journey and I have one and it looks way bigger than a RAV4, CRV and rogue, if you put a Journey next to a Highlander they look almost the same size, because they almost are, the Journey length is 192.4 in and the Highlander length is 192.5 in, is true that the Highlander is a little wider, but a Journey (compact suv) as long as a mid size Highlander, that’s crazy 😅
If you can find the right Mitsu dealer you can get a $32,000 MSRP fully loaded Outlander for about $27k. At that pricepoint its an absolute bargain.
About to buy an SE model with sunroof and awd, thanks to your reviews.
Just bought a 2020 no problem and it’s base trim 🤷♂️ people are such babies
Its roomy for driver I'm 6ft..the escape is tight...its a smooth ride...for a cheaper price it's a buy !.

@@fergspan5727 I don't agree, Skoda are more expensive and smaller inside :(
The Karoq is a decent mid sized suv, and all the extras as standard you get!!

Great review, thank you for doing this
Thanks.
Your going to blow that car up if you drive it hard.......it won't take it like a Honda civic si.........
@@christophermay4998Roger. Granny driving it is.
I don't know why I get static shock Everytime I open or close my outlander door. I'm tired of that.
Omg!!! DUDE same here ,, I swear I get shocked everytime I exit the car ..
Yea a lot of cars do that. My car (2004 Mitsubishi Ralliart) does that and my truck (2019 Frieghtliner Cascadia) shocks me if I touch steps.
I have the 2019 LE trim. It has not been dropped. The LE is the mid-trim.
I misspoke - it's NOT a compact Crossover SUV - it's a midsize.
No, the Outlander is a Compact SUV, like the Kia Sportage.... The Sorento is way bigger and it is in the Midsize segment.
You can Google it...
Hi
Any review about 2019 black edition AWD in Outlander?
TIA
If you put down the 2nd & 3rd rows, can a 6 ft. tall adult put a sleeping bag in the back and sleep comfortably? Is there enough room to stretch out your legs while lying down?
1.85m of space with normal driving position of front seats for a 5'10" driver, which could easily stretch to 2m by sliding the front seats when needed. So you'll be fine.
So theres no actual answer is there a hidden cd player/changer in my 2019 outlander?
If you know how yo drive you dont need a warning buzzer you moron

Hello everyman driver in ur review was ur driver seat all the way back because it seem like your knees look really close to the dash area I guess is kind of small up front
Renting one right now as my car's getting treated for hail damage... from the start, it's EVERYTHING I HATE about the majority of crossovers. But it's starting to grow on me... just slightly...
The CVT is what worries me. I've never owned anything other than traditional geared transmissions. I'm in the market right now and gave these a look, however quickly turned sway after learning it had the CVT. Should I give it a second look?

Sounds to me like they need to trade the CVT out for an automatic and put a few more Ponies under the hood. Then if they keep the price down they could probably sell better. As for the KIA how much more will it cost a person to get the KIA? It sounded like a pretty nice crossover.
cvt isnt as bad in the Outlander as the other companies... still a bad tranny but still better than the rest. from what I've read anyways... I wanted one of these but it's too small for my family.
Only Lt. Dan can fit in the second row if there is someone in the third row.
Third row is perfectly ok for the step kids.
It's just a better sensible option with the fuel mileage I'm getting it does great i laugh at every one but motorcycle drivers
Look at the all new 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe when shopping for a SUV
@Linize Korean cars are selling like a hot cake these days. Amount of features, comfort and convenience that you get with them is unbeatable. Mitsubishi is history now. They won't be able to stack up against Korean cars. Hell Hyundai is one of the top 5 automakers in the World now. There's a reason for that. New Hyundai Santa Fe is miles better than this Outlander. I guess you have a horrible taste.
2016 with the V6 comes in the SE plus touring package, might be the same with the 2019 year model.

Stargell Blackstar there are awd vans, both the Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey have awd I hear the Honda version is better though. Or their is the Subaru ascent which is the new Subaru suv it is bigger then the outback and has a 3rd row
Unless they just started, Honda minivans don't have awd. Toyota does , but it's like finding a unicorn, and very expensive
Buy a Japanese-imported Toyota Coaster with 4WD and a bulletproof diesel engine. Washington state has them sitting on lots right now, as there are JDM importers near ports over in Washington.
Id rather get a hyundai when they slap off the rebates on them which takes of nearly 10k! or buy a used toyota. CVTs suck too 😠😡
Off road video please!
Of road? he didn't even drive it on road....
They discontinued alot of their cars just to focus on their SUV but nothing is really happening.
Most cars that Mitsubishi make are not designed for highways but rather for tougher roads
4:14- I think commercial airline designers must have been inspired by this!
220 ponies in 2020?

The Mitsubishi Outlander has multi issues, Faulty fuel pump, faulty transmission. Mitsubishi replaced the Fuel Pump free of cost During 2011 which was my model. I had the major issues with the transmission/DVT, My entire engine collapsed. I took Mitsubishi to court and won the legal battle after 3 years.
