Revisiting this video after a decade. I was just 9 back then, and I couldn’t stop binge watching RC airplane videos, hoping that Santa could get it for me. Great times
Your reviews are absolutely the best video reviews ever! 10 out of 10!
I just got one of these for Christmas, and this excellent review has helped a lot. This is my first RC plane, but I know my way around the controls and am no stranger to airplane flight characteristics. Very nice review and demonstration!
You are absolutely my favorite commentor today! Thanks kindly Direspitfire.
Eric, yes a well done review. Thanks for tanking the time to make it. This looks like a reall winner...and going on my Christmas list, heh-heh!
Dave - Kansas City
i was unsure if i wanted to buy this one, but once I saw you slow flying, I know I could handle this plane! Thanks! 5/5
Thanks kindly Dave. It is appreciated.
Thanks James. That new plane of yours looks sweet and your price for the plans are great.
Try a mini super cub next. I just got one from a friend and it is fun. Flies great and I can fly it in my front yard. Maybe after that try an apprentice. It is a trainer plane with ailerons.
The P-51D is more docile than the sukhoi. Both are a handful in the air. I would suggest getting a few 150 mAh batteries for spares. I look forward to watching your videos Bob.
Great review as always!! Keep up the great work!
Happy Landings!
The P51 has a little more power than the sukhoi and can pull a loop alot easier. The lower wing on the P51 makes it a little more docile than the sukhoi, but it is still fun to fly.
E-flite is coming out with a 4-site micro 3D profile plane next month and I already have a PNP on order. It looks like alot of fun from the previews.
Ah how times have changed. Today I don't think horizon would think of using brushed motors in most umm planes. Nice blast to the past!
If not the apprentice then maybe another high wing plane then. Cessnas are a great intro to aileron training and there are lots of RTF electric kits out there to get you started.
FYI just a hint so all you R/C fliers don't loose frequency of your plane w/ the Spektrum DX6i. You should always have the antennae facing the right at a 90 degree angle. so the tip is facing the right
Great review Eric as always. Great little plane...5 Stars!
I got it for the scale looks because I will more than likely get it's big brother this winter. I already have a PNP 4-site on order with the hobby shop. BTW, I did fly in the gym, but too many distractions as a group of came in to play basketball about one minute into my flight
Thanks Steve.
as always..... great! It looks like soooooo much fun & not that expensive....
Thanks kindly jeflatt.
Thanks for watching and the comment Dave.
Yes, the stock Tx works fine with the P51.
I am up to 9 I think. The P-51D is sharing the same channel as the sukhoi to save a slot on the DX6i for me.
Neat. That looks like a great little plane.
it flys really nice got mine yesterday
I had to tweak my elevator on mine in order to get it to fly well inverted. Rolls aren't that great, but adequate for such a little plane. It's not a quarter scale or anything so it's going to squirrel some, but manageable. The under cambered wing gives it the excellent slow flying metrics. It doesn't like a lot of wind, but who'd expect it to? All in all I like it better than the E-flite P40 Warhawk.
Now if you want something big, you should try the Hobbyzone Supercub LP. its a great starter, and features something called anti crash technology, which helps keep the plane level in the sky. im not sure what the exact size is needed to fly it, but its a great trainer, and you can fly the Parkzone F 4u corsair or T 28 trojan after that. You cant after the J-3, it'll be too big of a jump. A friend of mine said you can fly the p 51 after the J-3, IF and a very big IF you take it slowly.
The P-51D has more power and can pull a loop alot easier than the sukhoi. But if you are more into 3D flying then the Sukhoi is the better choice.
I got the P-51D for scale looks and will probably be getting it's big brother this winter.
great little plane i love mine. if your new to micros i don't suggest getting it until you get some experence try a j3 cub, vapor , or cessna they are 3 channel. also this plane is very fast for a micro, its speed really surprised me and plenty of power it will go completely verticle till you drain the battery. " the only problem , never enough batteries!!!" be careful on landings i have had problems with chipping of the prop if i take off and land on pavement, seemslike i got short land gear
They are fun. Thanks for watching.
Thank you.
I prefer the spectrum radio over my futaba 2.4 ghz Tx as it is easier to program and the model match is another great option.
I got this plane and a love it! it only takes half power to take off :D
@nightfury789 RTF is Ready to Fly which means the kit includes a radio. BNF is Bind N Fly which means you have to already have a compatible 2.4 GHz radio.
thanks kindly
Excellent video brother, I just ordered one myself for my beginning plane.
Thanks
@ElRhinoProductions I have flown a mini and a super cub myself. This is a good plane, but it all depends on your ability. I can't say if you are ready for this plane or not. You are the best judge here. Thanks for watching.
It's ok as a beginner plane if you have some prior training on a simulator and turn down the expo and rate settings on the radio until you get used to it.
@Nevanator7 I bought the BNF version. Not sure if there is a RTF version.
I like flying the mini super cub around the yard at home and the neighbors get a kick out of it also. Thanks for watching.
Another great micro plane :-) I'm holding on this one, I already have the Mcx, Msr, Sukoi, Vapor, and now there is the 4-site coming out, that one looks interesting too...ouf!! Thanks for sharing Eric. BTW, that's a big Gym ;-) lol
hello, i got my micro t-28 i loved it...super easy to fly just wondering is the p-51 as easy as the t-28?
Great review Eric, I got the sukhoi for 30 bucs from a dude and that p-51 seems like it is allot better than the suckoi. ;) I got the micro spitfire from phase 3 and it was cheaper and flies much better than the sukhoi but its all good!
@cgeller13 I want to thank you for your time and effort this way, as with most hobbyists of any kind, your enthusiasm to guide and share with a total novice is most generous; thank you.
I have this plane and it so so so strong. I crash full speed all the time while pilon racing it in a gym and it never broke.
@parkzonecorsairtips I keep my micro planes within 300 feet. I haven't pushed that envelope with this plane, but with other micros that is about max range. Others may disagree, but it's a micro plane and 300 feet is a long way.
i love the look of this plane but it seems like the sukhoi flies much better (based just on watching your videos). great review
Heres the differences between the two.
The J -3 cub is 60 dollar cheaper, at 120 dollars.
It has a 2.4 ghz spektrum radio, and you can use the remote for other planes and helis.
It has a smaller size, which means you can fly it almost anywhere outside, BUT because its so small, there has to be almost zero wind.
The Hobbyzone supercub LP costs 180 dollars
it doesnt have a spektrum radio, but a 72mhz radio
it has anti crash technology.
Its much bigger, so you can fly it in a little wind.
Thanks Startazz.
Miniair sells an RTF one, bigger than that, for $70. It comes with everything
Nice video!!!!! I was wondering if this can hover?
Yes it is.
I SO WANT TO FLY IT! Sadly, i do not know how to fly a RC plane in the FIRST place. IT is just so cool! Can you recommend any trainers?
The apprentice is a good trainer with ailerons. Then the next step would be a 3D plane. Thanks for watching.
I was wanting this one and not the spitfire. Would this be a decent beginner plane?
it looks really cool.
5 Stars
Do you recommend this plane? I want a micro 4 channel, since I already fly an Edge 540. What is the best micro 4 channel for 3D flight?
I can vouch for inverted flight with this model. Its a little scary at first because its so sensitive, but if u get enough height u can safely fly inverted.
this plane looks like its got great slow fly characteristics. i think it could be my 1st 4 channel, cuz im into micros only
Hey Eric will the prop for the Parkzone micro Sukhoi work on the P-51 as a replacement?
that is a really big gym!
@alexztyphoon yes, you can charge most 1 cell lipos on the msr charger.
@xxgg no, try the J3 cub or ember first.
p-51 mustang one of the best fighter planes in the world war!
so very thank you. ik want it so. thanks
@phantom60504 the super cub or mini cub, or a firebird phantom.
Would you consider this a beginner's airplane?
If not, what if I only use elevator & rudder, than can this be flown by a total novice?
to learn with?
Im ordering this plane as soon as I find out if I can use the tx from my old blade cx..(lp5dsm)i also have a blade sr,wich tx would u recomend if any??would hate yo have yet another tx(i have quite a collection)p.s luv ur videos, hope you get sum kind of credit from the hobby store for all your valuable input!!!lol
@Rcflyyer1 it glides real nice however you will want to use a bit of throttle for landings in no wind in wind if you angle it right you can float it down
@joehandsome99 there is a rtf version. it's about $25-$30 more than the BNF
would you recommend this for a beginner?
I could fly this in my school gym easily. i wont be able to unleash its full potential, but i can fly it. i always fly my Parkzone citabria there. ive been flying the citabria for over a year, and have replaced nothing but a propeller, which broke because of pilot error. i can cut the citabrias power at the top of the gym, and itll come in for a perfect 3 point landing.
Does it come with a transmitter or do I have to buy one seperatly?
is it hard to build the bnf version because i am interested in buying the plane. the rtf is more expensive but i dont know if its worth the money
@etegg11 its foam with silver spray paint.
which do you prefer out of the trojan and the mustang?
hey eric,is the prop on this threaded on or pressed on?
Does this thing glide in for landing(no power) or do you have to have some power?
@SHORTBUS39 Thank you for your advice; I am considering giving such a gift to my nephew for his 17th birthday.
Do you think that overall, this is an appropriate gift or would you recommend something else?
What about an RC helicopter?
There are so many choices for you out there. It would be hard to suggest something for you. If you like the cub then give it a try. Thanks for watching.
@SatchmoSings look for an over head wing style trainer that is rtf. most will come with the dx5 or one very simmilar. i started off with the apprentice off of horizon which is very fun to fly. but is big and is best flown in an open field(baseball field is minimal.) otherwise look at the 3ch micro cub. very good begginer plane as well for someone with no expierence with flight controls.
I've got an RTF version of this mustang. Can i use the transmitter that is included with it to fly the sukhoi? Do i just need to bind it?
have you flown this airplane at all? It flies easily in a two hoop basketball court. It can slowfly wonderfully. so any gym that will let you, has enough room to fly this.
I see the remote is a separate item; how do you know which one to get, in terms of both the necessary frequency and the controls?
E-Flite is releasing a micro profile 3D airplane very soon and I have one on order. It is called the 4 Site. Check it out online at Horizon Hobby. The preview video of the plane looks great.
Does wind affect alot to the flying?
is this a good slow flyer also?
Does parkzone still sell this airplane? I can never seem to find it at my local hobby shop
which one is better for begginers
hey eric which do you find breaks easier the sukhoi or p-51
so this plane does not come with the transmitter control included in the box?
@SatchmoSings If you are referring to the airplane i suggest not only because its not an entry level plane. if he has had some flight experience then yes i would recommend it.
@kx100ct Well, I like it and it's fun. Thanks for watching.
@PCgamer1010 The P51 seems to have a little more power than the sukhoi so yes.
can you tell me whats the difference in channels starting from 2 channel 3 channel and 4 channel im starting to get into rc planes and would like some information and also whats a good start plane that can do loops and rolls?
what settings do you use to make the video hq when exporting?
thank u : D
I really want to get this or the t28 I've never flown a plane before, does this mean I shouldn't get it, should I just buy the hobbyzone champ, I don't want to buy champ then an ad ace plane. I don't have that type of money
Well I would, but I've already got an ARF. I was looking for a RTF just to mess around with, you know.
