Parkzone P-51D MUSTANG review, CRASH survivability, and SERIOUS WIND testing!

- This review shows how to "Bind" the TX, how the Mustang flies indoors, how it crashes, and how it can handle 25 MPH gusting winds. This is fun to watch.
When Brad called from Hobby Town USA in Sioux Falls and said my Mustang had arrived last week , I couldn't wait to get it. I don't go to town only on Wednesdays, so had to wait a week.
The P-51D Mustang was the most famous of the American Fighter Airplanes in WWII, so I was chomping at the bit to get it.
Here, I simply open the box, paint my colors on the wing, put some stripes on it, fly it in the gym, and then out in the gusty winds!
.
This is another great flying airplane from horizonhobbies.com and E-flite.Parkzone.
The first hobby store to get it in, got my purchase, and that was Hobby Town USA, Sioux Falls, SD.

This is not a beginners airplane.
It flies well, the servos are smoother than the others, it looks and flies great in the air!
I really like it. I like it better than the Sukhoi and the smaller prop is not as easy to break.
Thanks for watching and subscribing.

Hi mate.
Watching you fly and you smile afterwards, always makes me smile. Thanks.
Regards from Australia.
Thanks kindly. This was 9 years ago. Hope you get to see some of my newer videos too.
that genuine smile that you flashed at the end of the video tells us all about this plane.
looks sooo fun to fly.
I flew my Mustang a few days ago. It needed a lot of trimming but once things were right the plane was a champ. I think this is Parkzone's best micro flyer. The stock prop had lots of power unlike some of their other planes and the batteries charge very fast. I would recommend this plane.
Got this plane yesterday! OMG! Outstanding flyer! This is by far the best micro out there. It may not be a first plane but it is a stable flyer! Took it out in the wind today. It was a little bit of a challenge but still flew way better then any other micro would in those conditions. Nice test vid!
tight flying!! i'm going to get one of those... and that Tx is sweet, might need that too! thanks for the awesome demo.
You always have such great videos dave. Thanks for posting.
HAHA! I loved this! I just ordered mine and it's supposed to be in the mail tomorrow. This video has me really excited!!!
Love this plane Dave, great review, as always, Merry Christmas
hi Dave, love it, nice work with the cam Ilea since it is not easy to keep up with these fast little buggers, well done mr and mrs Herbert !
i really like how you added the stripes to the wings. it gives it more of a gulf pacific look i like that
Nice vid. Looks like lots of fun
amazing video! Really funny and wow that's some pretty great damage resistance!
another 5 star video-i really love watching your video's-
Greate demostration!
Small plane, BIG FUN !!!
Saludos desde Mexico.
I just got mine yesterday!! :D I take it out today for the first flight!
great video dave you never fail to please :)
This plane was my first and I must say I was up and flying in no time. Careful when flying in the wind cause it will get tossed around. But this thing is so much fun!
I was lucky enough to buy the old version off of Amazon before the next version more scale P-51 Mustang came out and, it flies like it is on rails doesn't need the AS3X system like the newer version has. Anyway very good video Dave and ignore the haters!!
great review
if it's Jeff recording you can always hear him chuckling in the background, at least it seems that way to me lol, Jeff has lot's of fun sounds like
i have the new parkzon P-51 just got it two days ago it is great in the wind also i was flying in gusty wind its hard to land when its jumpy like that love the review
Man I LOVE those old spitfire looking planes!
That is cool. I just ordered The big p-51 bl this week. Now I will have to have his little bro.
Nice flying Dave. I like the vertical landing out side. guess some old P51 pilots would have loved that manouver lol.
I wish i could find an indoor area bigger than my den, so i could fly my micro heli's to full power.
Nice video! I can't wait til the Parkzone Ultra Micro P51 comes out. Same price and super scale detail!
Whew! Ilea MUST'VE gotten somewhat dizzy filming that plane in circles on that 1/2 court basketball gym. Still, you did a fine job of it! Thanks for the vid Dave.
Another great video, Dave.
That makes me wanna scream at my local hobby shop for still not having the P-51 I pre-ordered a month ago. :(
Nice!
I'm surprised how well it flew outside!
I've watched this 3 times now and I'm not sure if it's just me or my sound system, but the engine "note" definitely changed after the head on.
I downloaded the video and I'll run the audio through a spectrum analyser!
Nice plane for $99! Nifty flying both in & out of doors with a great landing in a stiff wind that seemed to allow it to land "on a dime"!! :)
yup and the linear servo is linked to a servo extension which connects to two aileron pushrods
you are a legend
nice job
Great video as always Dave=5*
Nice!!!
It flew great!
Way better than my minimum Cessna!
It just sounded different.
your the best!!!
hey nice review and its a nice plane for the money pretty durable lokks more durable than the sukhoi handle wind well also good job
The Spektrum DX6i (like Dave uses a lot) is a very good TX and uses
DSM2 technology (check out Spektrum website for more detailed info). If you consider to buy a Bind'n fly version like this one, make sure to check the TX you want to buy will be able to bind with the RX installed in the airplane. Happy flying !
Good flying Dave! I was wondering how this model P-51 handled the wind and it looks like it held up well. Down here in Florida you definitely need something that can.
@175myles I got both of those planes, the champ and the mustang, and I have just started to fly the mustang. It does seem more powerful than the champ, but it depends how windy it is where you fly. Also, the control layout is different between the 2 planes. The aierlon controls replace the champ's rudder controls, and the rudder control for the mustang is on the left stick, as opposed to the rudder for the champ on the right. So if you do get it, get used to the controls before flying it in tou
Great video, thanks! I've bought my DX-6i radio, and have a night vapor on order. As soon as I've figured that out, I'm thinking to get this model for my first four channel. Does that sound like a reasonable idea? Of course while I'm waiting I'm practicing on sim.
im in the exact same situation as you. im going for the p51, because it has an under camber wing. making it a tad more stable.
Thats so kewl! what kind of servos does it use for the aileron/rudder/elevator controls?
This plane was fun to fly but now it's been discontinued so now the replacement parts I need are still purchasable but the tail is now red (as3x) version
Great demo Dave! I'd love to get one of them, but I don't know if I can do the Vertical Hover and Landing just yet... many hours on the simulator first and years of crashing a learner plane perhaps?
These new motor and battery technology makes for some very cool flying huh?
How long until the UAS takes on electronic engines? I'd guess the big birds nead the heavy fuel, but smaller tactical units already use this technology -- can you say?
Thanks for the video. You said you like it better than the Sukhoi. What limitations in aerobatics would it have in comparison the the Sukhoi. Can you do knife edge and inverted flight on the Mustang? Would a large indoor gymnasium be enough space? God bless!
i just got this yesterday sadly its been to windy to fly. i am going to try to do it at my schools gym
Hmmm...i wonder what would happen if you fly a i oz. plane in 25 mph winds....lol. Nice video dave (as usaual). FYI you might not want to fly in circles too much, viewers might get dizzy...Nice flying. that plane is pretty cool. Nice vid.
Parkzone, not e-flite, isn't it?
I saw one fly in a gym tonight and they fly really nice. Lots of power for a brushed motor. Also saw one new in box tonight. Looks like the fuselage is EPP foam and the wings are molded (not sure material), they seem very sturdy. Local shop sells them for $95 bind and fly (need your own transmitter) and ready to fly for $120, they are $5 to $10 more most places. Again, they fly GREAT. Best for outdoors low wind, but can fly in gyms etc. too.
Thanks for you reply , i bought a used sukhoi plane with a dx5i Tx , but still on the way so i just want to know if is better to wait for the dx5i or just fly with the stock Tx.
But thanks to you i`ll try with the stock Tx lot of thanks
okay now dave im curious do you like this mustang or the sukhoi better. from what iv seen they look similar and are around the same price but i was wondering wat is your expert opinion??
HI dave ..
I just bough one of this but the RTF version do you recommend to fly with the stock control ?
Thanks
hey dave would u be able to bind this to a futaba transmitter also or no
sweet :D !
Dave, how would you compare the little Mustang to the Sukhoi 26m. I have the Sukhoi and it can be a real handful sometimes. Watching the video is seems to be a little more docile.
Great video, but one thing you got wrong is that the spitfire is the most famous plane of WWII not the mustang. LOL
awesome review of course but i felt sorry for your camera person in the gym kept waiting to see them fall down from dizziness lollol
I only have a small area to fly my little Hobbyzone Champ so when its even the slightest bit windy its back into the box. Would this be a suitable upgrade from the little champ, or would I be better off just buying something like the SuperCub?
whould you recomend this for a person that has flown the slope diver and has put a lot of siulader time
i saw that usmc hat. From one Marine to another OOH RAAAH
Question, I can fly Airhogs R/C aircraft flawlessly even the indoor Bi-plane that has only rudder control, anyway would this be a good 4-channel starter?
i got this airplane for christmas and when i crashed it, the tail broke! when you crashed it it was faster than when i crashed it so i am wondering how this happened?
The linear servos found on all the PZ microsg.
I'm worried.
I've never flown before and I ordered this plane yesterday. Already shipped.
If I fly over grass in a large field will it be ok?
Thats what ~I was thinking, deffo the SpitFire
Does it come with a transmitter or do you have to buy one?
is it a good beginner plane cause Ive mastered the flight Sim
Can you use a Futaba 2.4GHz tx with this plane, or will it only bind with Spektrum boxes? I', interested in this plane, but I paid $250 for my Futaba T7C and I'm really not willing to shell out more money for another 2.4G tx just because some company wants to get all proprietary with the technology.
i love the buggard but it charges too long and the fight time is short, so im in a manuver and the motor shuts off and i crash it that is the only down side and the tail is so delicate.
erm can it bind a random helicopter? like salvation 9,silverlit gyrotor?
U should try the JR dmss
hello nightflyyer, can i use my lama 2,4 ghz transmitter for the airplane,or if u could recomment me a very cheap 2,4 ghz transmitter, thanks mate
This or the ParkZone Sukhoi, They are both the same price, both micro rc planes but I dont know which one to get
i was flying my alpha 40 trainer and it was so windy it didnt even fly strait it flew sideways because of crosswind
Was Michael J Fox your camera man?
i think that $99.99 "looks more" than $100. just my psychology. great vid, btw.
Hey can the TX bind R/C mini 2ch helicopters? plz replay .........
yeah they should
can you use that ar6400 on other planes?
I'm guessing no need for a bind plug?
heh heh heh lets see it fly dude!
it's good only, especially to bad weather happened, so you still can play remote indoor ! :) Right ?
cool
I can see this is turning into a 'whos plane is best' debate, but i honestly think that the spitfire or the hurrican is the most well known WWII fighter (probably spitfire moreso)
@14MorrisonB Yeah it finally calmed down an I flew it in th farm field behind my house. It does seem that it would be difficult in a gym
I sure like how E-flite is costing less and less, a year ago I got a Blade cp pro and no not 2 a week later the cp pro 2 came out! last time I've got an rc. not the last because i need more money...
what about the Spitfire and the german planes
no this is a 2.4 ghz Spektrum DSM2 transmitter, for hobby grade rc helicopters and planes. this can only bind to aircraft equipped with the DSM2 technology. the silverlit gyrotor and others are toy grade, and dont work with 2.4 ghz. they run on infrared, 27mhz, and 72mhz
@timdog161 you are not going to want to learn with a micro there is no stability i recomend the super cub lp with stock it does not come with ailerons but u can add them on later
@timdog161 I was in the same position as you and I bought this plane. I think it's a great 4ch trainer plane
@rurikia yeh ur right
@MrVinesh2 1. This plane is not a toy. This is a sophisticated RC aircraft which only experienced pilots can fly.
2.Just because you have a video of a Cessna landing in FSX doesn't mean you are a pilot. You will need better proof.
3. Who said you need to hate on this video? If you don't like it, don't watch it.
~rcflyer132~
@jkachur777 thats normal. that just means that servo is working :)
how much is it
what did he say?
aye, cant beat a good bit of british engineering
And is It electric or gas?
Horizontal 3d. at the end.
actually, statistically, the spitfire was the most successfull fighter of WWII
and besides, the point i was making is that the ME109 is NOT an allied aircraft
i want to see micro f4u
