Absolutely stunning model. Not sure if this is an issue, but should there not be a large "5" painted on the front of the flight deck (on the bow)? To my knowledge, all US Navy carriers have their number painted on the flight deck. I suppose it may have been removed historically during wartime... no idea.
Just a couple of questions. If you don't mind may I ask your age?, also have you ever served in the Navy? I must say they're artists then there is you. How did you work with your CA glue?? It was so precise no overflow no glob of dried glue before it was added?? I could go on and on. An awe inspiring work of artistry.
This is probably one of the best models I’ve seen, Yorktown has been always been my favorite ship for her story and importance to Midway. Great work and thank you for sharing !

80 years after her last battle, very nicely done. Easily the finest of the early war carriers. One small observation, torpedo 8 was not on the Yorktown, torpedo 3 was, luckily that number 8 on the TBD devastators can be easily turned into a 3 with a little paint. 😁

The real Yorktown is in Charlestown S.C. and I've been on it, if you get a chance it's a wonderful trip. A few years ago I built the 1/350th CVN-65 Enterprise it was nowhere as detailed as this model. I moved and couldn't take it because no room and I've given away many models some I had to throw into the dumpster when I downsized. You have to have a lot of room to be a model builder.
Very worth waiting for ! It is like going on an adventure , love the shapes in this vessel .just wonderful to watch you work . ......the lights reflecting off the water .......... best wishes from Wales 😍😍 ( Photo etch scuttle frames ..... OMG !)
Unbelievable really! The model itself is just so very well done, but the way you have crafted it's path through the ocean!! Sublime. Perfect. This should be in a US Naval museum, it's THAT good!! Thank you for sharing your patience and craft!
Brilliant build. Superb. Question would the anit-aircraft guns be manned as the aircraft came on deck? Probably impossible in terms of no of personnel needed (tin hats too). I only ask as this is the best manned most realistic ship I've seen... Brilliant.
"Sir, it'll take two weeks to fully repair her!" "You have three days." And they did it in 48 hours, with crewmen still patching up her hull as she steamed off to war to join the fleet in the upcoming Battle of Midway.
The story goes that Yorktown pulled into Pearl Harbor after the battle of Coral Sea. Admiral Nimitz was already waiting for her to dock pier side and met Yorktown's skipper. Admiral Nimitz asked how long before she's ready to go back to sea. The skipper replied "Sir, it'll take 6 months in dry dock to fully repair Yorktown and at least 90 days to get her seaworthy." Admiral Nimitz looked at the skipper straight in the eyes with a steel glare and said "You got 3 days". Dockyard workers pumped unnecessary spaces below the water line full of quick-crete to patch holes and leaks and most of the attention was given to the flight deck and the hanger deck so she could launch aircraft. She put to sea headed for Midway with contractors still on board repairing electrical problems and water mains. Spaces that had casualties had the sailor/sailors taken ashore to the hospital and if it was a vital space it was cleaned up the best it could and necessary equipment repaired or replaced, and it it wasn't a vital space it was sealed off and made water tight.
Incredible work. I am wondering what you are using for glue? I couldn't spot any glue anywhere! I assumed you were using the plastic cement, but does that also work with the metal pieces?
Beautifully done. Was any thought given to putting the elevator down with "the last plane" on it? It would give an even better view into that amazing and detailed interior.
That my friend, should be a permanent display in a museum or art gallery so people can see your fantastic work, I am totally knocked out by it, thanks for sharing.

This is museum quality work. The detail displayed and your attention to it is incredible. Well done! A passing glance would easily mistake it for the actual CV-5. Truly an honorable depiction for a naval legend lost at Midway. 🇺🇸
I think in general we need to go back to the old naming convention for carriers. The names of famous American battles are much better for them than the names of Presidents.
Ditto!!!!! That is INCREDIBLE!!!!! I've been building model kits since around age five I think when my late Dad got me into it. With all I've done, NOTHING even comes close to this. That belongs in the National Museum of Naval Aviation onboard NAS Pensacola. I'm certain they would VERY MUCH like to display it. I've been there once and there are some other GORGEOUS works of model making. Like this one. Some might've even been hand built. Well worth a visit if you're close by. Or worth the drive.
Nice build!!! The waves look much more realistic then you did on HMS Hood! The weathering still needs some work though, rust and dirt get washed down and aft by the water when at sea, not straight down. So where the waves, crew and planes indicate she is travelling at speed, the weathering shows she's been in port for a few years. Perfecting that would be the icing on the cake.
The attention in detail is amazing, been aboard the Yorktown in Charleston SC , im a navy vet myself USS SIERRA AD-18 and the USS DEWEY DDG 45, you are saving history my friend.
Holy Hannah! The level of detail here... the time it must have taken just to do the planes... is incredible. If I could build a model half as well as that, I'd be happy. VERY well done.
What a pleasure to watch! Your colors are wonderful. The aircraft spinners look too long to me, and the 20mm guns look overscale as they keep bumping things. Overall very pleasing model, the water effect is masterful! Can you do USS California with splinter camouflage?
As a fellow modeler I'm amazed and disgusted of the effort that required to make this model lol... People who watch this great montage and hasn't built something big does not know how much effort it is to assemble those PE parts, those windows holy shite... Also the masking of the floor... These things are overlooked... Great job man, I'm speechless...
That is an insane amount of work, the planes alone would have driven me mad but all that photo etch work, damn you must have the patience of a saint, as you clearly have the modelling skills of a god. I would love to build with this much detail, but i'm 51 years old now and my eyes aren't that good. Museeum quality at it's best.
I have long clumsy fingers! I can’t tell you how many models I have broken while trying to put them together. Popping off air craft antennas, rear landing gear on bombers, or popping out the plastic windows, just by picking them up. Yeah, I am a little jealous of your talent.
The music reminds me of my days when I was in UC Berkeley as an art student. I would start hallucinating on my final painting. The professor thought I was gifted that I had so much talent but in reality I so stone out of my mind.🤪 (Carl Jung interpretations of his dreams in his paintings.) I really appreciate your skill and talent in putting these kits together. (No drugs involved right?) 😅😂🤣 Take care, we really enjoy your skills and workmanship.🙏🙏🙏
Simply impressive! I also am a modelist (wooden ships) and your work and techniques are really amazing, especially regarding the sea!!! I was expectant and reluctyant about your results with the sea... but your work was really amazing and unique.!!! By the way, and please forgive me,: may you tell which is the kit manufactrurer, as well as all the brass fittings? Best regards and, please, continue with your wonderful magic of making models see real!
Fantastic project! Building the Yorktown aircraft carrier for the Battle of Midway must be an incredibly intricate and rewarding endeavor. Can't wait to see the final result and the historical battle brought to life!
Amazing, I was last year on the USS Yorktown CV 10 in Charleston SC, it is an Museeum now. You made the USS Yorktown CV 5 which sank at the Battle of Midway. Amazing Work, thank you. Greetings from Germany.
Thats the best model build video I have ever seen on youtube. Heck, its not a model build, its a work of ART. Kudos and respect to you for your amazing skills and patience.
I have been fortunate to just stumbled on your Yorktown project. I say "fortunate" because of all the information you have skillfully blended together and shared with us. You certainly captured the intensity of a carrier going in harm's way. The seascape is terrific. One can almost hear the saltwater hiss as the Yorktown churns through the ocean. Well done, Sir.
That is a artist at his finest, that is the most incredible kit building I have ever seen and the attention to detail is incredible, this deserves to be put on a display in some ww2 memorial building or museum for all the public to admire it’s that good , young man give yourself a massive pat on the back for this 👍
Bruh the amount of patients required to do this is UNBELIEVABLE. The amount of planes! It must have taking you 2 days to do it. It is like my head knows that this is goo but my heart says it is BEAUTIFUL 🤩
It's so crazy to me how good these look. I want to get model kits but I don't think I have the mental capacity ad time to do all that. Plus I wouldn't know what I'm doing especially when painting it.
Awesome work and a great tribute to those who served on those carriers, Yorktown, Enterprise, Hornet and Lexington were the only Major class warships standing between the US and Japan after Pearl was attacked!!! The Battle of Midway stopped all offensive moves by the Japanese and from then on it was a defensive war the Japanese couldn't win given the war production was overwhelmingly in America's favor!!!
You are a modeling genius! Extemely talented, meticulous and patient. But I have a question maybe you or someone else can answer, are you just placing the various parts down without glue for the sake of the camera and not gluing them? I see no sign of glue on the parts. Or are you just not showing how you actually glued them down? At any rate, a great video and museum quality build. Best regards!
Great build. My critique is that Yorktown would've still been heavily scarred from the damage she took during the battle of Coral Sea. Yorktown pulled into Pearl Harbor for repairs. Workers worked around the clock to patch what they could and 48 hours later Yorktown steamed toward Midway.
I likke it.... ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Mini atur yg nantinya bs d persentasikan...dan bisa d wujudkn...mnjadi kbyataan ... Thanks....sedulur...sederet sedunia.. 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Outstanding! All who served on CV-5 ‘Old Yorky’ would be proud. The quality of this model is worthy of display at Patriot’s Point, where memorabilia from the Yorktown-class carriers is enshrined on museum ship CV-10 USS Yorktown (Essex-class). CV-5 Yorktown and CV-6 Enterprise truly were America’s ‘First Team’ that beat back Imperial Japan until our overwhelming industrial might could win World War II. Suggested reading: “Rendezvous at Midway” - the story of USS Yorktown CV-5, with details on her construction and fighting men that helped form the winning team.

Looks amazing, I never really realized how small the aircraft and even the people were in comparison with such a large ship.
Great job man, I'm speechless...
unbelievable detailed plane interior!
That is an insane amount of work, the planes alone would have driven me mad but all that photo etch work, damn you must have the patience of a saint, as you clearly have the modelling skills of a god. I would love to build with this much detail, but i'm 51 years old now and my eyes aren't that good. Museeum quality at it's best.
masterpiece..
I have long clumsy fingers! I can’t tell you how many models I have broken while trying to put them together. Popping off air craft antennas, rear landing gear on bombers, or popping out the plastic windows, just by picking them up. Yeah, I am a little jealous of your talent.
Mrs Sophia is legit and her method works like magic I keep on earning every week with her new strategy
She helped me recover what I lost trying to trade my self.
Who's this professional everyone is talking about I always see her post on top comment on every UA-cam video I watched
I think I'm interested how can I get in touch with Mrs Sophia
I remember friends calling me crazy when I started but now I shut up them with my four figure weekly returned
I am happy today because of Mrs Sophia
Wieder eine außergewöhnliche Arbeit! Was für eine Detailfülle. Ich verliere mich in den ganzen Einzelheiten! Fantastisch!
The music reminds me of my days when I was in UC Berkeley as an art student. I would start hallucinating on my final painting. The professor thought I was gifted that I had so much talent but in reality I so stone out of my mind.🤪
(Carl Jung interpretations of his dreams in his paintings.)
I really appreciate your skill and talent in putting these kits together. (No drugs involved right?) 😅😂🤣
Take care, we really enjoy your skills and workmanship.🙏🙏🙏
AWESOME BUILD, I can the air about this build its like being there. Truely its a work of art. So how long did it take you to finish this beauty.....?
Amazing, I was last year on the USS Yorktown CV 10 in Charleston SC, it is an Museeum now. You made the USS Yorktown CV 5 which sank at the Battle of Midway.
Amazing Work, thank you. Greetings from Germany.
The repetitiveness of building all the planes, alone, took so much patience. Wow. Great focus.
This is the greatest modeling video I have ever seen. I give this builder all the credit in the world 🌎
Thats the best model build video I have ever seen on youtube.
The sheer amount of pasion and patience some people are able to put into such projects is just amazing. I myself am more a broad strokes kind of guy.
Patience of a Saint..
A special showcasing your collection would be great.
Impeccable work. 👍🇬🇧
Hi Studio Blue Ocean Team. When Air brushing do you use modelling acrylic or Artist acrylics. Love your work 😊
Only Mister Rogers could relax me more than this video. Truly a work of art, by a master craftsman.
That is a artist at his finest, that is the most incredible kit building I have ever seen and the attention to detail is incredible, this deserves to be put on a display in some ww2 memorial building or museum for all the public to admire it’s that good , young man give yourself a massive pat on the back for this 👍
It is unbelievable how realistic your water looks! Perfect craftmanship.
Bruh the amount of patients required to do this is UNBELIEVABLE. The amount of planes! It must have taking you 2 days to do it. It is like my head knows that this is goo but my heart says it is BEAUTIFUL 🤩
My God. What beautiful tedious workmanship. Thank-you very much.
Has anyone ever told you you are an absolute modelling GOAT? I am absolutely speechless at this.
Yorktown....such a magnificent vessel. You have captured her glory in every frame.
It's so crazy to me how good these look. I want to get model kits but I don't think I have the mental capacity ad time to do all that. Plus I wouldn't know what I'm doing especially when painting it.
Amazing work. Which brand‘s PE parts did you use? Or were all the brass parts in the kit?
You have surgeon hands, and an eye, every bit as good as the greatest painter/sculptor out there. Incredible job.
Awesome work and a great tribute to those who served on those carriers, Yorktown, Enterprise, Hornet and Lexington were the only
Major class warships standing
between the US and Japan after
Pearl was attacked!!! The Battle of
Midway stopped all offensive moves
by the Japanese and from then on
it was a defensive war the Japanese
couldn't win given the war production was overwhelmingly in
America's favor!!!
May I ask what type of camera/lense you are using for your footage? Absolutely love your work!
Great work, what photoetch set did you use ? Pontos or Infini
Your models are the most true to life things a have ever seen! I am left with a question though. Why, after all this work, do you use a 50 star flag on the plaque?
