what a funny take, apple is a hardware company that makes money selling products and actively promises not to sell your information while being one of the most progressive companies in sustainability. Meanwhile android (google) is a software company and they make money by selling you data and by selling your information and forcing ads on devices you just paid hundreds of dollars for. which they do not even try to hide. Not defending apple they are big evil coperation, but am saying your take is L.

"Planned obsolescence" is absolutely a real thing. I remember one of my high school teachers telling us about it all the way back in like 2008. It's simply the idea of a company purposely designing their products to be fragile and have shorter lifespans so you keep buying the "new" one that's only incrementally better than the last one. There's also "perceived obsolescence" which is when a company purposely makes that incrementally better product seem so much flashier and newer than that drabby old one (cough, adding more camera lenses, cough... making up a bunch of pro ultra plus max models, cough)

@bravo_10 do you use battery apps? I'd be curious to see the battery temperature when it was running full screen streaming video. The heat chamber was a huge upgrade from the S22 Ultra. My Fold 3 runs about 86f but when charging it goes up to 99f. So I just put a bag of frozen peas under it and it quickly comes down to 86f and allows it to charge at the fastest possible speed while maintaining capacity. I ran my Note 9 for three full years charging this way (or placing it over an air filter fan, Air conditioner outlet, etc.) and still had 85% capacity at the end. I'm still using my N9 as my Dex setup with an 1080 OLED flat display from Inocn I picked up for $190. Meanwhile my Apple stuff is crawling with bugs or can't handle the newest iOS.

It was just starting to slow down and I wanted to get something with a better camera. This was about 3 months ago when the 15 just came out and I had already heard about overheating issues so that was the initial reason I went with the 14 pro max instead. But seeing how fragile the 15 is I’m extra glad I chose the 14 now. A few years back I snapped an iPhone 6 in half fairly effortlessly. Just hold it by both ends with the backside to your palms, and bend it towards you. When I did it, I had the screen against my hand and got a chunk of glass lodged in my hand so don’t do that. they haven’t really changed in any way in the later models. The phone in the video that survived the bend test is genuinely impressive because it is not hard to do to any phone at all.

To be clear this is only the pro max because of the mix of a larger glass cover (less support) and the rigid titanium. Aluminum and stainless steel will flex a bit with the glass when slightly bent (like when sitting on it. Not enough to bend it permanently but there is some strain and flex.
With the pro max the glass flexes into the rigid titanium and cracks.

Definitely agree. Even for android, i try to use my devices for as long as possible, but after 5 years of use I've always found that my biggest issue is always with the battery. Going from an 8 to 10 hour battery to 3 to 4 hours is too noticeable to accept.

A channel called "Some More News" literally did a story on this. There was one company that made really high quality pressure cookers that were designed to last and because of that they put themselves out of business. Companies make products with the intention of making them obsolete for one reason or another. One of the examples this channel covered was how light bulb manufacturers colluded to fix the number of hours a light would work for and reduced it from 1,200 to 1,000 and had sales go up.

The reason why old blackberry phones never broke when you dropped them is actually really interesting. The phone was designed to eject the battery if it was ever dropped, so most of the kinetic energy is ejected through the significantly more massive battery, leaving the relatively lightweight phone with minimal energy to actually get damaged by.

But not a single scratch was on that thing for the whole near-decade i had it. It was well cared for and quite sturdy for all that i put it thru, having it on my person every single day of those 8 years. It died of natural causes: old age. Earlier this year I had to upgrade my old phone because it started getting super hot when it was on for any amount of time and the battery lasted like three hours.
It was an amusing experience because it was a Blackberry Priv, and everyone at the store just could not stop staring at it because they'd never seen anyone who had one of those before.
I originally got it because of the sliding keyboard, which I prefered over onscreen keyboards, and that was it. It was a good phone, I miss it dearly.
I especially miss how it didn't slide off of even the slightest uneven surface, unlike my Google Pixel. I swear it secretly excretes oil when I'm not looking at it because some place i've put it down on it should not have been able to slide and fall from...thankfully, it's pretty hardy, because I don't intend on upgrading it until it too is completely unusable.

About 10 years ago, I was working in a oil change shop when a lady came in for a oil change, she walked into the waiting room and sat on the couch all excited with her brand new iPhone still in the box. I was in there talking to another customer, I left and came back in a few minutes later and the lady with her new phone stood up with the phone on her lap and forgot it was there, the phone fell from her lap and landed on the throw down rug and the screen broke. Unbelievable, the look on her face and disbelief that a phone screen would break landing on carpet about 2 feet high.

I totally agree. I don't get a new phone unless it breaks. I'm still using a Galaxy S10 and it still works just as good as the day I got it, I haven't even noticed a loss in battery capacity.
I only stick with Samsung because a while ago I bought a Samsung surround sound system that was heavily discounted because it was a display and missing a lot of parts. I sent an email to Samsung asking where I can purchase replacement parts. Within 2 days they replied asking for my address. They sent me every part that I needed for free, plus they through in a 128g SDcard.
This was over $150 in parts, I didn't even have to pay shipping. Thats how companies keep customers for life.

The 1TB is whats in my S10 right now and works great. And not having the freedom to use expandable storage on the new S23 is the reason why I won't ever "upgrade" to the S23, and also I absolutely love the Prism Blue color of my S10 and meanwhile Prism Blue isn't available on the S23, only a very muted Sky Blue.
Damm, now you got me looking for spare S10. And I'm guessing a lot of other people also like the S10 because for a new unopened S10 the price is a little ridiculous ($500+) for a phone released 4 years ago.

It's now part of the body making the glass a separate piece that's easier to replace, while making it weaker at the same time. But if you wanna replace screens, cameras, even microphones you'll run into issues because they've serialized all the parts. You will lose tons of functionality replacing parts DIY because of this. France outlawed artificially lowering performance, so if you set your region to France (doesn’t affect language, App Store, or anything really), it should work noticeably better. I had different apps frequently crash before I did this with my iPhone 11 and a year later, I rarely ever have app crashes

My first electronic device was a Samsung GalaxyTab E, super cheap even when it was new. It's been through nearly 8 years of constant use now, I dropped it out of my bedroom window in protest once and it still looks brand new to this day, not even a scratch. In fact I'm watching this video on it right now.
    Android forever.

The issue with the iPhone 15 pro max is the frame is titanium so the tensile strength is too high for the surface area so the glass just snaps because the titanium won’t bend, whereas the smaller 15 pro has less surface area so the glass is less likely to break

Also to add on to the planned obsolescence thing, all phone companies do it but apple decided to hide it because they thought it would be better…
essentially what happens is as the battery naturally degrades phones performance reduces as to keep the battery alive longer, to fix that just get a new battery and your phone should return to a higher level of performance

These upgrades are only underwhelming if you buy one every year. Ideally, you should be using your phone for at least 3 years or more. I have the 12 Mini since 2020 and it's still rocking great.

If you watch JerryRig's videos on it, you'll soon realize how much he has been misinterpreted. He actually says the 15 is quite durable, screen wise it is more so than previous models, and it is cheaper to replace.
But people keep grasping on to his video of him cracking the max version, because it's good clickbait, even though it ironically doesn't even represent his takes lmao. The max backside has the weaker durability, but every other model does not have this issue (he does the same test in the video with a pro non max, immediately after the max version)

My 14 pro max handled my abuse really well. The design allowed the back to take all the shock so my front screen is just so much better.
I have never understood how people think iPhone products are bad(not talking about the new one) because I moved to iphone because of how low quality androids were. My chargers don’t fall apart. My phone batteries last. The screens handle damage more. The only downside with my current phone is that the speakers didn’t hold up my extreme use of it, but that’s more about how often I use my phone like a tv. 😂
