Malenia, but I fight her like Sekiro

For those who are confused: there's a new crystal tear in the DLC that allows you to avoid damage if you block right before enemy attack lands on you (just like in sekiro). It also reduces stamina drain and enhances guard counters
Imagine Malenia jump up for her waterfowl dance and Wolf just straight up use Anti-air deathblow
🤣😂😂
I don't think that'd work on her though. It doesn't work on really powerful bosses
It works with every humanoid boss as far as I know since he simply cuts carotid artery. @@wildbard4112

bro deflecting in elden ring looks like it had to be in the base game
It kinda was, but it was mostly only accessible to STR builds when wielding Colossal Swords. All weapons come with a Guard value, similar to shields. Problem is, that since this guard value is considerably lower than what a shield can provide, most people tend to ignore it. Colossals can get between 67% to 82% negation for blocking physical dmg. Which is good, but not perfect like shields.
But, of course, most Souls vets preferred to roll a vast majority of the time.
@@Magus_Union He said deflecting not blocking 😭
It trivialized one of the hardest bosses here, so probably not.
@@hecc7906 it's the same thing 😢 the deflect animation is from blocking and immediately attacking after

To be honest Deflecting Hardtear was made to beat this boss. She crumbles under heavy Poise damage and the Hardtear improves your Guard Counters by 20% every Deflection. Guard Counters already do a ton of Poise Damage, now they do 100% more with the Hardtear stacked.
Yeah.. I came back from the DLC and literally beat her like she was a normal enemy.. Idk if it was the level surplus or really just mainly skill
@@Filip6754 probably a mix of both, but yeah the bosses probably got us more aware of long combos
This shows perfectly well that if malenia was a sekiro Boss she'd be easy as hell
Obviously if she was in Sekiro she'd be calibrated for the game and made a lot faster with more vicious attacks.
That said, even Isshin eventually feels easy once you're trained enough
@@benjaminthibieroz4155Even? Isshin is easy. Compared to any emdgame Elden Ring boss, Isshin is a joke. Phenomenal and flawless fight but not difficult.
@@Nrzpokrterto be fair it's not comparable.
Sekiro's difficulty it's based in your skills and improvement but rather of the difficulty of the Boss. Once you learn how to fight the Boss then is no longer hard to you.
But if we put Isshin and Malenia in comparisong taking in count the games where they belong, Isshin is the greatest challenge testin everything you learn and saw trough the game.
Malenia in the other hand is hard because of her Boss Mechanics, she heals with every hit even Blocking, so it's quite the opposite to Sekiro's gameplay.
Either Way now we can see how a Boss from both games would act in either game.
In Sekiro we have Demon of Hatred but it's mostly a Soulsborne Boss in that game, resulting in a very long fight and endurance test.
Now in Elden Ring we have a new mechanic pretty close to the parry system and shows us how it trivialices the fights where this thing wasn't prepared to deal with it.
@@tobigomez3069 i disagree imo what makes malenia hard is the delay in the atacks not the heal.

I think it's more flexible as a tear because that allows it to be slotted into more builds. Besides, its the longest lasting tear at five minutes, which is more than enough for boss fights. Heck, i even use it at the start of dungeons and it usually lasts until the end or until I find a grace
@@malikhittam1440 Yes it's perfectly enough. Sometimes it seems you spend longer but most fights aren't longer than 5 minutes. I remember thinking once that i spent 30 minutes fighting Malenia, just to check the recording and seeing 5 minutes, and was like, wtf?
Yeah I agree, but it lasts for 5 minutes so should be long enough for any boss fight or a PvP duel.
there's a mod to remove the duration on the tear buff if you're interested
that would be easy mode tho
Wait HOLYSHIT the deflecting hard tear actually counters ALL of her waterfowl attacks?? This lowkey will make this boss twice as easy because its literally only that one attack that trips me up because I never learned to do the camera lock off spin around thing if she does it up close 😂
I mean it’s still not easy if your on low health. It’d be kind of like perfect deflecting all of genichiros wombo combo or isshins pistol. You’d almost always take damage if you don’t deflect everything correctly.
@@HeartOfHallownest It's actually quite easy, you don't need to press L1 repeatedly.
Press L1 and HOLD it while she's going on the first rush, then you need to drop L1 button and Malenia gonna have an about 1 second delay to start the 2nd and 3rd rush, you just gotta press L1 exactly between these delays from her and hold while she's attacking
@@grimmtherapist Thanks for that! I was wondering if we'd have to mash all of it.
There's plenty of ways to dodge Waterfowl Dance, there's a few videos on YT showing you how to do it :)
Why do you need the camera lock on spin? Keep a certain distance away which will let you punish everything while allowing you to jump off (or light roll) her first attack of waterfowl.

@@13Kr4zYAzN13 wasn't really borrowed from Sekiro, i'd say "inspired" at best, as the mechanic is still vastly different, it's closer to Code Vein's deflecting mechanic, which would make more sense where it comes from, as the game uses similar combat and mechanics to Code Vein,
relying more on Blocking than Dodging to defend against attacks and also having mutliple skills and stats to boost a lot of varience on the fly... (which also makes sense with a lot of each game's skills being tutored more towards improving blocking and deflection based gameplay)

Suggestion for the next fantasy game Miyazaki does (now that he has lessons from Sekiro and Elden Ring): Deflects for humanoid enemies and bosses, dodges required for giant horrific monstrosities.
Humanoids should have more attack tracking and thus require you to block, much harder to dodge anything, but can be Sekiro'd like crazy. This mimics a closer feel to real martial arts, you can't typically dodge a fast, small attack by an observant opponent.
Meanwhile, if you're so itty bitty, or if you're facing most elemental attacks, you shouldn't be able to block them. *Maybe* some with a shield, but most often it doesn't matter that you have a plank of wood or a metal dome with you, a giant will flatten you in one or two hits. So you need to dodge those, and to compensate the bigger enemies have much worse tracking.
Boom SekiSouls
I hate tha frenzy only affects tarnished npc. I think it should work on all humanoids.
They could make it so any parriable attack is also deflectable. All they'd have to do is count it as a parry player-side and remove the parry animation
Would be better than being able to deflect everything as it makes the game too easy imo (ER Reforged has this feature)
I'm about this one 👍
better or worse tracking doesn't really make much of a difference when dodging makes you invulnerable for half a second and most attacks last for like a tenth of one at most
There is already a game like that. Its called "Lies of P".
cant believe they didnt include deflecting in the base game after nailing it in sekiro. That was the move forward for this series!
Elden ring and Sekiro were made at the same time so the dev team didn't really have a lot of chances to implement what they learned in 2019. By 2020 up until the release of Elden Ring, the foundations were already set it would've been difficult to implement Sekiro's mechanics in a way that balances with everything Elden Ring does.
But we know of sure the next fromsoftware will have more of Sekiro in it like Armored Core did
@@potatoesblink3299 makes sense. In 10 years playing souls game, I always wondered why there wasn't sword clashing in these games (breaking my immersion a bit) then sekiro came along

I now understand why people felt like Malenia was a Sekiro boss in a Dark Souls game.
Because data miners found that she was reused from a scrapped Sekrio DLC

The waterfowl dance deflect was beautiful
After beating the dlc final boss with only melee and no summons, I went back to Malenia to compare the difficulty. I was shocked. Malenia, who used to be SO hard, now felt like fighting a teddy bear
Honestly it's the hp that makes the final boss a pain if she had the dlcs boss hp she would be way harder
@@azeria1 Well, if we add the hp from her too phases, she's roughly at 35 000 while DLC final boss is around 40 000. And that's not taking her healing into account. Her most significant weakness is the fact she can't staggered.
Agree. It was like child’s play for me.
This is the cycle of fromsoft games, after you struggle through the game in your first playthrough, the next playthrough will always feel much easier. We will feel the same about the final boss after a while
Even Radadaddy feels easy after Malenia
Praise the description, I was just about to comment how on gods earth he could block Malenia with that little stamina reduction and taking 0 damage
In Sekiro, Malenia would be one of the early bosses
I wish this was a proper ash of war with it's own animation instead of a physick you can use once per life
Something tells me they tried that, but they couldn't balance it with FP lol
I was already sold on this tear, but seeing you do that to the water fowl dance makes me want to buy the entire stock ! I need it now ! I think this is how blocking should behave in future entries because it is just that much fun.
She fights more like a Sekiro boss than an Elden Ring one. This approach almost looks like it was made for this fight specifically.
Bro even got the mortal blade
That's what the tear does? I thought it increased the guard stat on weapons, aka, reduced stamina when blocking. That's cool.
The game is really enjoyable with the right build when levelled up. This was fun to watch.
If that last crit in phase 1 was just a second or so off, you wouldve skipped phase 2 completely. Was half expecting it once i saw bloodflame
Most impressive part (if this was sekiro) is the fact that he parried the thrust attacks. Normally, you have to mikiri counter, but the timing to parry them exists and is just really tiny
Didnt even know gaurd counters were a mechanic till this playthrough, this god damn game man

Only 1 Waterfowl Dance???? Thats some amazing rng
something else i noticed is that great katana guard counter can very often duck under the second attack at 2:05 and if rakshasas katana description is correct you dont stagger as much during your attacks. on top of that the high jumping overhead can knock her out of waterfoul. seems like a perfect weapon to counter malenia

For the waterfowl dance, are you holding down the deflect button or only pressing it when she's attacking in the combo, kinda like spamming it
You should time your deflects with her attacks, which is kinda hard to do perfectly, like genichiro's long combo attack in sekiro
