I’m and INTP and I always had a problem with some of the dialogue around ISTJs and how they are the most common type, when I read up on them and think about them they don’t sound like many people I know at all. I think a healthy ISTJ is a force to be reckoned with, and as boring at it may sound their is a great amount knowledge to be learned from thinking inside the box as well as outside.

I think my father is an Istj. He's pragmatic and less emotional. He's a very hardworking person. He started working at the company in the lowest position, he worked his way up for years and now he's one of the assistant managers. He's also a genuine and a humble person. I love him.

My father is an istj too. A tip for if you want to bond with him is to have him teach you something about something he knows a lot about. ISTJs usually like to learn facts and can teach you a lot of facts about something they're interested in.

While his service in Spain and the Waterloo campaign is more well-known, Wellington's ISTJ-ness is best seen in his Indian campaign.
Wellington took improvised British tactics and turned them into a methodical system for dealing with Mysore. His actions were very effective, and served to bring him to the forefront in the Napoleonic wars.

The ISTJ leader I know excelled in his field, up to the point his way of doing things was no longer serving the situation. When he finally recognized and accepted this, he stepped down and stepped into a mentoring role for the person who replaced him. Far from the new manager being "better," I'm convinced that it's actually the combination of experience and fresh ideas that is leading things in a positive direction.

When I read “ISTJ leaders” I KNEW you were going to talk about Angela Merkel. She represents the ISTJ’s greatest strengths and weaknesses: she’s extremely pragmatic, consistent and reliable, which helped Germany and also the EU through a whole lot of crises (many would hve collapsed under the pressure of the refugee crises), but she’s also very unadaptable and has huge problems keeping up with the quickly changing modern times, which is a huge reason why we are so far behind when it comes to technology and environmental issues.

Whenever I read ISTJ leaders, I always think of Stannis Baratheon from A Song of Ice and Fire lol. I'm not sure if he can be included here, because he's a fictional character, but I think he's a very good example of an ISTJ leader. He's very serious, has strong principles and moral justice, also he doesn't tolerate bullshit from anyone. He's considered less than other leaders because he can't be bothered with social conveniences, and is very strict about following traditions.
For me, he can be a great leader, when you compare to other candidates, you know he's going to get things done and bring justice to people; besides, he's the only king who cared about the real threat to the kingdom.

I completely agree. As an ISTJ he was the person I identified with and respected the most. As someone outside the story I could easily see where he could have done things a little differently but still maintained his convictions. In my own life, it’s difficult to see things from a different perspective because it feels like I’m being wishy washy (which I avoid) or being unclear concerning Truth. Thankfully I have an INTJ for a BFF and an INFP for my son, and I completely trust both to help me see a different path.

Yes, Angela Merkel had a fashion designer (not stylist) - the Hamburg based Bettina Schoenbach. She is the creator of those signature Merkel jackets and trouser sets. Shortly after Merkel started, some of my friends went into the store but were nearly kicked out because they asked if they could take some photos (which was for their studies). This is a designer that dresses the "quiet money" traditional Hamburg elite and wants nothing to do with screaming brands and logos or any sort of flashy exposure.

I am an INTP and there's surprisingly lots of similarities between me and The Duke of Wellington's leadership style. One of the distinct differences is that I already leave plenty of room for improvements and new input, that is what worries me the most it's if whether I've done enough for something to work perfectly and whether I've learned enough to remember them like it's second nature.
Edit: it bugged me that it didn't end with a period.

Interesting that you feel so about infjs😅 As an INFJ myself, I don’t think I would make a great leader at all. My low Fi makes me too vulnerable for critics and my inferior function Se makes it too difficult for me to set my plans to work. I do however feel that INTPs would make great leaders. Their perceiving function is a great source of spontaneous ideas and flexible solutions😉

Merkel was also the democratic leader that got rid of any serious competition in her environment... This reminds me of another German ISTJ, uhm... politician...
In all seriousness, she threw out competence in exchange for loyalty, which effectively dumbed down the entire parliament! A lot of Germanies problems date back to her, especially with that action...
This doesn't mean that there are no good ISTJs. My former boss was one. I had the feeling that people somewhat feared him, but I couldn't see why (besides him being probably boring at parties). He was down to earth and his two defining qualities were being pragmatic and rational. He made sure that everything went smoothly, but when something was amiss, you could talk to him and convince him to change things.

Now... ENFP leader? I feel like we are easy to assume we'd be bad leaders, but I disagree. Our analytical side can be very detailed and specific, going hand-in-hand with our broad view of everything linking together on a hidden level that other people wouldn't see because they see the literal details while ENFP's can see the hidden meaning, or implications.
I just have no idea who is a real good ENFP leader in history. ENFP leaders come up in video games, lol, but they aren't always portrayed with this hidden analytical side that I see in myself.
I'm speaking mostly about myself, but, I think an ENFP leader would start as an advisor and love being the advisor and not want to be the leader. Then something happens and the ENFP gets stuck as a leader, only to realize they can do it really darn well. My experience was mostly being a camp counselor, or an Auntie, but I think it can apply to other ENFP's too.

I think that you should have a qualifier criteria when trying to decide which type is what type for this.
There is the nemessis and inferior function. Each one of them have different manifestations.
For an ISTJ it would be Se nemesis. I'm gonna simply say that Se is awarness. In relation to Si dom state it would create a constant opposition between what was and what is.
The challange of the nemesis here is to adapt a given state to the substance or changing reality Ne inferior.
For an INTJ, on the other hand, it would be Ni vision as dom with Ne substance as nemesis. Here it would be the opposition more between what is considered right and what the INTJ thinks is right. The dynamic is kind of similar in that here is about about adapting a given vision to the current reality or awarness of it Se inferior.
In this way both types can appear quite similar. The difference then is between the ISTJ need to concede his state Si dom to the current awarness of reality Se nemessis in order to account for the substance of reality that changed Ne inferior. For the ISTJ it builds a technique or method. The method needs to account for all the practical and technical aspects or awarness of reality itself in order to be in congruence with it's substance.
For the INTJ it is that the vision Ni needs to concede to the substance Ne nemesis in terms of it needs to incorporate all aspects of it in order to be an accurate representation or awarness of reality itself Se inferior. The INTJ builds a map. The map needs to have mapped out all territory by having all substance in it before being used as an awarness tool for reality.
This is also a constant process whereby the ISTJ is challanged by new technical aspects of reality Se awarness that needs to be put in congruence with the substance Ne inferior of his method and state Si.
For the INTJ is challanged by new substances Ne that he needs to be able to portray them in the awarness of reality Se so that his vision Ni would be relevant.
Overall the difference is that the gift of the ISTJ is a method while that of an INTJ is a vision or paradigm.
Both need to maintain that gift and they do it by being challanged by the nemesis function so that the self would be forced to take care of the inferior.
Overall that's when this is in a balanced state. But in an unbalanced state. The vision or ideal can became redundant and the method can became a vision, if it is not maintained.
The fact of the gentlemen warfare was not a method but a vision or ideal that became redundant. Wellington as well as other generals at that time upholded that ideal.
Hence why I don't think that Wellington was necessarily an ISTJ but he could have been an Ni dom.
And Merkel I don't see as being an ISTJ either. She could be an ENTP.
