I appreciate you sharing your planning process. (It's a topic educators don't talk a lot about.) This is an area I need to focus to get the most out of a shoot. Oh, and I have to try your recipe!
I just finished watching all six videos about artificial light for food photography. Thank you so much. I will play around with my gear and will let you know. Cheers.
You liked one of my photos today. Such a thrill 😁. I don't have lights yet, but your vids always keep inspiring and reminding me that I need to get them !
Absolutely loves these videos with all the behind the scenes information shared it just gets me revved up to go shoot some food!! Thank you Joanie!! :)
Joanie, who keeps their softbox assembled? LOL, I certainly don't. Yes, some designs can be a pain to assemble and disassemble, that is *for sure*. Yes, umbrellas can be a good starting tool, some of mine are over 30 years old. For those new to this, in general, there are 2 kinds of umbrellas - soft white and shiny silver. The soft kind you can bounce lights into *or* shine through; they give you soft shadows. The shiny silver ones only bounce and they can create hard-edged shadows. One thing to take into consideration about a HUGE light modifier is your ceiling height. For example, let's say you have an 8-foot ceiling and you are thinking about a 4-foot wide softbox or umbrella. The end result will be that you can only set the *center* of the light at 6 feet. (1/2 of 4 feet = 2 feet *and* 8 feet - 2 feet = 6 feet). What if you want your light source to be at a higher angle? Is limiting yourself to a 6 foot height going to be a problem? It might be or it might not be, only you can answer that question. But it is something to take into consideration. BTW, don't forget that you can always bounce your light off of a ceiling (if it is white), I've done that many times, not only at home but also out on location. I am also shooting for the blog today, great timing! I need to learn how to keep a more consistent theme to photography, realizing after watching this how inconsistent my photography can be!
Aslo have a look at Sean Tuckers latest video on the topic of consistency. He is a street photographer and also from my country...living now in the UK. Not food but really making your creative juices flow and see things an a different perspective. Just as Joani has been doing. It is the small things that makes a huge difference.
those images were quite lovely : ) I guess im always just amazed at how much thought goes into a foot shot - seems more than shooting with models and ppl
Helloo! I had no idea about food shooting until i came across with your channel. Your videos are just amazing! Very high qualified. I instantly fell in love with your personality and cheerful humorous attitude! Wish you all the best!
You had me giggel....the part of should you or should you not eat it...haha..my Food Science students devour everything before I can say...dont eat it. Love your presentations a lot. xxA
Hi I'm new to food photography and I really just want to take better pictures for my blog but without wasting food during the prep for the shoot. Any advice would be appreciated. I've watched other videos of yours about light and what not. I love your videos thank you for sharing
Real quick I like your double sided backdrop but I don’t have the space to store one. I did find a back drop support stand made by a company called Mount Dog on Amazon it can use 5ft or 7 ft backdrops and breaks down to fit into a carrying case. Love the 🥗 idea
I think you are stunning! I love your different hair colors you do. And I absolutely love your channel....what's shakin bacon...i love that saying 😄 I have learned so much from you. Thank you for making amazing videos! I'm curious. When you first started you channel, did you have a bunch of videos ready to upload? May you please do a video of how you make a blog and everytjing that goes into that?
I started this channel with the first five videos because they were a series that went together. I was teaching food photography to local food bloggers and wanted a way to teach more people at once, and thus the channel was born. But, I did have another channel with 200+ cooking videos before this..wasn't able to make a sustainable income off it, though. For everything blogging, everything I know I learned from foodbloggerpro.com.
@@TheBiteShot I'm so honored you responded I could cry!!!! Thank you for taking the time to chat with me. It truly means so much to me! Thank you for the detailed response, ai honestly wasn't expecting the comment to reach you. Keep shakin bacon 😘
Could you do a video on color matching when setting up for a shoot? As in how you know what colors will go together. When you'd use colored plates or props with different types of backgrounds and vinals. I love making my photos colorful but I always feel like they are clustered and there is too much going on!
OK, I just looked at that Evian Mist product. Geez... $20 for 10 ounces of water! I would just go to a beauty supply store and find refillable bottles that produce a fine mist and be done with it. Then buy 2: one for just water (steam distilled) and one for a 50/50 blend of water + glycerine. The glycerine will stay in place after the water has evaporated which will mean the salad or veggies or fruit will still have that "fresh" look.
It's a Wordpress site and I bought the Foodie Pro theme. I use www.agathongroup.com/ for hosting because they host JoanieSimon.com and have been amazing to work with. Also super speedy page loading for this new site which always made me crazy on my other site (too many plugins, too much crap, weird theme).
Simple, beautiful, encouraging. All the reasons I love this channel and always come back to it.

Hey, there was a whole month about color in food photography, search the video list for that, lots of great content there! :)

My current site drives me buggy too. Thank you!
Great content as always
How to control the camera focuses computer, no longer manually control the camera?
How many shots did you take in total to get the ones you finally used?
What do you use to connect your computer to your camera so as you move things in the frame you see it on the computer?
Joanie has a Shooting tethered video where she shows everything she uses there
Head to the link in the description box for a full video on how I shoot tethered
Great video, thank you for your time and great work... "Stay out of trouble".... Yeah, like I can do that! :-)
I love you and your videos but I don’t understand because my language is arabic 😫🙃
