11:02 Reminds me of the many times I changed the stereo system on my two Land Cruisers I owned, have one left but brought back all those memories. Even though I bought the first one in 1998, and it was 4 year old almost new vehicle then, and the guy installing the system took ages. Even then, this plastic trim was flimsy and could break if not careful.
An arm rest on the pilot seat would have been a nice addition besides having real cup holders. We’re in the same boat on our 94 with the radio. Won’t know untill we try if they used an adapter. It is a nicer end JVC pop off head unit (which still works) so they might have used an adapter. All of our speakers are pretty well shot.
Lol!! My old HDJ81 has an ancient “carrozerria” (Japanese division of Pioneer) that gets exactly 2 radio stations. It does play CDs 😂. I need an upgrade all around. Great video and very helpful.
Many thanks for this, I really need to spruce up the head unit and speakers in my ‘97 Toyota 80. Not sure I’d go for the Atoto, but loving the details you shared here. My other project is filling in the holes left by the factory roof rack and rear spoiler rusting over time, now removed. Just saying if you’re wondering what to do a video on next 🙂
That spot you used for the mic is used for a white hose to fit into . Its the hose that lets the heating and cooling system know what the temp is inside the truck . Try to find the hose and bring it into the cab area or your auto setting will be way off .
It's been a few months, how do you like the microphone location? I've been fixing previous owner wiring and installing an Atoto head unit too - this video has been great (except the owner cut all the original wiring) One caution, I used CA glue on the door cards and it started a reaction that ended up with a ton of heat and smoke. No fire but very surprising!
I’m about to fit a 7inch Q7CA into my 96 LC80. A plug-in play connector harness available for Toyota p/n APP0141,and a couple of little side in-fills ATB2, both these are Aerpro products. Hopefully it’s a snatch ezy ordeal, bet you it ain’t gunna happen without the odd swear word.
How is the sound quality of the mic in that location when making phone calls? Do people have a hard time hearing you with the mic being down low and farther away than if it was mounted above your head? About to pick up a 96 FZJ80 and this exact radio set up with the option of front and rear cameras is exactly what I'm looking for
Hello. I just bought a 1991 Land Cruiser and the dashboard lights are not working. Already changed all the cluster bulbs. Would you be able to help me where to find the fuse of this dashboard? Thank you in advance.
in the meantime until you get you another door handle you should drill two holes in it and put some zip ties through it so you can open your door handle that's how my 94. 80 series is done the door handle froze one year and broke off so I drill two holes in it put zip ties in it and that's how I open my door and it works fabulous
What’s with the snow , hell bugger that, palm trees don’t grow where snow is, I like shady palm trees -dude, snow is what we see on Christmas movies.F**k that, move towards the lower latitudes
a compact amp will really bring the sound up a level.
Your channel is quickly becoming my go to for 80 reference. Thanks for all the great information!
Thanks!!
That slot you put the microphone in was used for the temp sensor for the auto climate control that came in the LXs

Good stuff. Love that somebody else is building a 93-94 at the same time I am, with some similar thought processes.

Thank you! Those pioneers look like the perfect fit for the pesky front doors!
Great work. So lucky the OEM wiring harness wasn't cut off.
Awesome video. I'm looking to uograde my lx450 original stereo and amp. Probably just skip the amp

Mine doesn’t have that setting/feature so I think it’s just a blank
Nice video and install. I think I would have taken this opportunity to install sound deadening on those doors while you had the panels off.
Thanks, I plan to do that along with fixing slow window issues and door handles. Just had to put everything back together for the vid.
I have the same speakers in the back doors of my 80. I do have the 6.5 RF ones in the front doors. They are a pain to fit.
I watched a few of your videos and had a feeling you were in southern idaho. you can just tell by the light idk how else to describe it
I need to look at disconnecting that factory amp... is it just the two cables you show that need detached?
Yup, just unplug it.
Appreciate the 80 series content brotha... These past months have been rough for me and you gave me some motivation 🥲
You got this man!!

I like it! Haven’t heard any complaints from people on the other end. That’s really weird about the CA glue.
So how do you bypass your Amp?
Unplug it!
@@RM_Garage it worked!
Thanks for the lifehack with the glue and cardboard

That is the hole for the automatic climate control that was on the LX450
Yep, found that out!

Did you get longer hardware to mount the speaker through the spacer and into the door? The stock screws are super short…
I did, yeah.
can you adjust the brightness of the screen?
more cup holders youll thank me later
How much was that head unit including adapters and such?
It’s $200ish, but keep in mind they sent me this radio.

Did you have to ground a wire from the Atoto harness to the parking brake or did everything just go straight from the Atoto harness into the Scosche?
Everything went straight from the atoto to the scosche
What scanner did you use for Toyota cars?
Is disconnecting the 2 harness plugs to the factory amp all that is needed to bypass it?
Yep!
Hey man I’m trying to rebuild a Land Cruiser and would love to use this engine. But I have a lot of questions. Is there anyway I can contact you
So glad you didn't put one of those massive floating head units in
Links to the cardboard glue please 🤣
It's just from walmart and called "supertite", but any thin CA glue. Search Amazon for "thin CA glue"
Blaupunkt used to be quality stuff and expensive, what happened?
If you need a new steering wheel column I know where to get them new. Let me know
Where can you get a new steering wheel column? Mine rattles like crazy...
lucky my radio is working because im not up to that yet lol
Little short circuit at 9:09😅
Be done with the snow, move to Australia
That plastic is brittle. It’s a nightmare every time when removing it.
ATATO I want to draw a P on this
16 yr old me butchered my wiring connected with MASKING TAPE, only thing I had... 1984 Escort with a TON of ignition noise
Been there!
