Not knowing enough about how much weight we were carrying in our TT, as well as not knowing to check the bearings and repack when needed, caused the street side wheel to nearly fall off. We pulled off the highway into a residential neighborhood to assess. DH was concentrating so much in watching the wheel on the driver's side while making a right hand turn that he didn't notice that the awning was rubbing up against a utility pole. (The pole was not damaged). Had to call a tow truck with a flat bed to haul the trailer to the tow yard until the following day until we could call about getting the wheel and axle fixed. We spent the night, in the trailer, on the flat bed in the tow lot. We have a photo of my husband standing on the step ladder to reach the trailer steps with our 70-lb dog to get her into the camper. This all was one day after we blew a tire on the trailer on I-77 just into North Carolina and hubby had to go find a new tire and replace it on the side of the highway. I think we had more than one guardian angel with us on that trip.
@@WaywardWaggs when I saw the awning pushing up against the utility pole, I had to walk away from DH because I was going to laugh due to the stress of it all. There was some fun to it- we had friends who lived within about an hour of the tow yard so they came to visit. It was fun watching people drive by and do a double take at all of us sitting in our lawn chairs near all the wrecked vehicles. Lol
Missy and I are racking our brains about our mistakes, hard to remember since I’m perfect, 😂.. Not at all, so our most costly mistake, my fault, we have the NSA Surge brake that has a cable that attaches to the toad to pull the brake pedal when the rig brakes. Well, I had that cable too tight. No smoke but the brakes got so hot it burnt a hole in the brake line, burnt up all 4 rotors, pads, and calipers… Stupid expensive…. My first mistake was with our first rig, a 38’ Open Range Travel Trailer, tried to use the stabilizers as a leveling jack, well I bent it right in half. Good news was that Missy made me trade it in 3 days later for a Class C motorhome so we didn’t have to pay to repair that, LOL. My dirtiest mistake was not having a secondary valve on the black tank. On an extremely hot day, we are at a dump station. The cap was super stuck on and I took both hands to open it. As soon as it loosened the gases and liquid exploded and sprayed all over me. Evidently the black tank valve leaks a little… Well, after wiping down with bleach wipes that i keep in that compartment (bleach burns by the way) i finished the dumping process, went inside, showered and then moved the rig from the dump station. I was known as stands with brown face with my friends for a time, LOL !! I now have an extra valve… There’s a theme here, I make all the mistakes. Great video !! Congrats on the new house.
I got distracted by a campground neighbor just after backing into our site. I decoupled the 5th wheel from the truck and pulled forward before putting down the landing gear. The 5th wheel dropped onto the bed of the truck pinching the power cord and shorting out the 12v wiring. The same neighbor who distracted me rewired my power cord and we later had beers.
The toilet episode was the best 😂😂😂😂 I can only imagine 💩!!! But our catastrophic failure was…I’m camp host at a campground from May 1 to October 1 in Iowa. So camper sat for 5 months and hubby never checked the tires before we pulled out and we only live 23 miles from the campground well that day we only made it 6 miles and had a major blowout on the camper and it tore the under belly pretty bad and broke part of the metal underneath it was NOT good. BUT the “I told you so moment” happened because once he got all hooked up I said “did you check the tires before we take off?” He said “oh it will be fine” 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ so needless to say the momma was pissed!! 😤 And he heard an ear full from me…oh I was pissed!😡 but he fixed ever bit of it…cost quite a bit!!! Served him right!!
Ohmygoodness. Who made this big mess???!!!! UGH! Glad the slide didn't have bad damage. Lucky the fridge not being locked didn't end up with a bad ending. On to the next collab. Jim & Michelle
Thank goodness this video didn't come out before the new owners took ownership!💩🤣🤣 I hate a checklist!! Drives Chris crazy! We have almost no drama over the couple years as well. Nice job guys!
Great collaboration! The poop story is funny! I don’t think anyone could over top that one! lol! I saw that video you showed about it! I was cracking up so hard! 😂😂🤣🤣 It’s funny now but probably wasn’t then. Glad everything was good with refrigerator. Nothing fell out. Wow that was a good flat tire there. Love your back yard and congratulations on selling your rig. And happy for you with getting settled with your new house. Love you both see you soon! ❤❤🤗😘
Our biggest mistake was putting the tongue of the trailer on a plastic pad and just putting on the x-chock between the tires. After lowering the power stabilizer jacks the trailer started to slide down the hill towards the lake. Luckily it did not go far but the stabilizer jack bent. Of course neighbors were a distraction (our fault not theirs). Spent the first 3 hours fixing the jack. Of course this was our first day of the trip and our first one taking it across WI state lines to Michigan. Went out and bought a good set of tire chocks. Not happen again. We always use a check list. Last item is say a prayer for safety and God’s blessings on our trip.
We have had neighbors distract us before. We learned to just stop while they are talking. It is difficult to keep setting up and hold a conversation at the same time.
Like the poop story. We’.ve done: tail swing, backed into the house guttering, left the pen out of the trailer hitch and drop the trailer on the ground.
We have a small rpod trailer. Our first time out, I managed to have one too many things plugged in and oops lost power. The second oops was when we thought that our solar panel (that came with the unit) would keep up with the fridge while we stopped for a trip through a small museum. We managed to drain the battery there because we had the fridge on battery instead of propane. Luckily it charged up again while we drove to our 2 night boondocking site. Found out when we got home that they forgot to connect the solar panel. Glad I'm married to someone good with electricity.😊
The power cord came out of the 7 way connector on truck going down the road. When I noticed it the rubber had burned off and wires damaged so it couldn’t be plugged back into truck. I had to travel about 3 hours with no turn signal/break lights on camper and just truck breaks to stop camper. Luckily no one cut me off where I would need to step on the breaks. Was able to get it repaired at a local RV dealership where I was camping for a week.
I remember your 'paper work' story. What totally impressed me was the fact that you released that video on Day 1 of the Alliance RV National Rally - and you showed up for dinner that evening. You earned my utmost respect with that move. Our biggest RV mistakes include turning onto a campground road that was a bit more than a 90 degree turn. The campside wheels went into a ditch and the coach tipped and the front leg of the front awning caught a fence post and got torn loose. We had to buy an entire set of awning legs in order to replace the front one. I turned the back one back to Alliance at a rally because I didn't want to haul it around. Ironically, enroute to the 2024 Rally, I turned too sharp in a truck stop and I hit a post as I turned and took out the back awning leg. I had to buy another full set so now I have a spare front leg. 😒 We never locked the residential fridge but one day my wife couldn't find the blue cheese she loves on her salads. She knew she had bought a new container but couldn't find it. The next day, she found it in the freezer. Apparently, the fridge door opened at the same time the freezer drawer opened, dropping the cheese into the freezer. We have since added baby locks. Finally, I forgot to close the tailgate as we were leaving the Kentucky Horse Park. The grinding was gut wrenching and resulted in having to replace the front storage door on our 340RL. Bottom line is, it happens to all of us. Enjoy your new home.
I had my first poopsie last week. No threaded sewer, but it had a lid. Thought I was safe and I was in a hurry (Not good). Pulled the black tank without testing the gray. Got crap on my $80 hose from Blu Tech. I have sterilized the heck out of it and called them for advice. Will put it to the test for the first time next week....Fingers crossed. I know I'm not the first or last for this one. On another note, good luck in your new home. Best wishes and I'm sure traveling is not done for y'all.......Be well and hope to see y'all on the road
First trip with our 5th wheel I didn't let the truck do what it was meant to do and down shifted the 4 speed transmission at the bottom of a hill causing the engine to over rev and threw the bottom end bearings. $7000 later put a new engine in the truck. We no longer have that truck.
Dustin, just when you got good at the Rv life y’all sell it. The no flush episode listening to Leslie got so tickled if it had of been my wife she would’ve wet her pants! Funny seeing y’all in the yard but we are so glad y’all are happy! In backing up my class A I hit a lamp post in the Rv park, only damage was it tore my blue ox cover for my tow vehicle.
Biggest mistake. We were brand new RVers. First trip with 5th wheel. Didn’t use check list. Pulled truck away without unplugging 7pin cord. Caused a minor fire in front compartment and fried all kinds of electrical stuff and melted some hydraulic hoses. Over 10k in damage. Thanks for insurance. We don’t do anything without a check list now (2 years later of full-timing).
Lol....i dont want to ever top the flying poop episode. We were traveling but it wasnt RVing. We were on our way to the NRVTA 2 years ago to take the fundamentals course. Well i managed to leave in behind....it caused a domestic until we called travel center. They had it and we picked it up on the way home. No phone for a week was my punishment 😊😊

I also drive about a mile before I remembered. I hope I never have the toilet forget😂. Take care you two. Have with the house. Is the trailer sold and truck now?
Oh lord - forgot to hook up the gooseneck? That's crazy, lol. I hope you never experience the toilet issue as well - that was a nightmare 🤣. To answer you question, yes the truck and trailer are gone. It's all bitter sweet.
We are not full time bit about 4 years ago after hooking up the 5th wheel and doing a pull check I pulled ahead some and had to back up to get out of our site and when I pulled forward again the pin box slid out of the hitch in the truck.
Flip flops don't slide very well up under your slide out...Funny, how did that thing get stuck up under there?!@#$%! Oops, there goes a nice big tear in the linoleum floor 😮.... It's a toss up between that and our bathroom toilet valve getting stuck open,,, water flooding from the bathroom all the way past the kitchen & out the front door.....and not only once, but twice in the same day....and the kicker?...it was our 20th wedding anniversary!! Oh boy joy, you should of heard us that day ☹️ 😮😊🎉
Yeah, in a hurry and it costs. Travel day...hit the road I have a checklist but I didn't check it: walk around. I forgot to unplug the 30 amp cable. driving off heard it .Hit the brakes too late. I had ripped the end out from inside of my motorhome. Stupid. Well, spent a day repairing.😢
So......First time setup: Sticker next to slide out switches (that I didn't notice) that says "PLEASE NOTE MAKE SURE STABLIZER JACKS ARE DOWN BEFORE OPERATING THE SLIDE OUT MECHANISM" + newbies = gash down the bottom of my slide from the roller digging in, cracked countertop from the bottom of the cabinet catching the floor and now I push out on the top of that slide when I extend until I can fix it.... #facepalm
Hey Guys, what part of Alabama are Yall in? We're from Lufkin area in East Texas but go to Cullman Alabama all the time. On our second day out while pulling out of the Campground I hit a fellow campers parked truck taillight with my door of our 35' camper because I did not go wide enough on my turn.
I would take ALL our mistakes over a poop explosion. 😂 Thanks again for having us be a part of this. Love the backyard! Good luck with the house.
🤣 It was pretty terrible but it makes for a funny story now. Thanks for joining us in the collab. It was a lot of fun.
