  • Well, this is a video we never expected to make. Darlene sustained a very serious injury while we were boondocking in Wyoming. This video explains what happened and if it will put an end to our full-time travels and future boondocking.
So many of you have asked how to help.
    1) Keep her in your prayers. This will be a long, hard recovery
    2) Follow us on IG and FB (links below) to stay informed about what's happening
    3) Watch our videos. Every little bit helps when it comes to UA-cam commissions
    4) Head over to liketheresnoto... and shop our Amazon store or click the partners links. Again, every little bit helps (at no additional cost to you btw)
    5) Let us hear from you! We love reading your comments and messages.
Thanks you so much for your kind words and support. We definitely feel the love from our comminity and we are SOOOOOO THANKFUL FOR ALL OF YOU!

My great grandmother cleaned the fireplace and carried the bucket outside. She tripped, knocking some embers from the bucket. Wind kicked up carrying hot embers to the house. House burned down. Reason for this little story:
It's not your fault you got hurt. Accidents happen. Thank God you're alive.

NEVER move a head/neck/ spine injury - even if it seems minor.
    - also -
NEVER remove a motorcyclist's helmet after a wreck - even if it seems minor.
Most dispatch offices don't have ability to view a "pin" directly. Make sure you can view the actual lat/long or MGRS coordinate numbers to give to the dispatcher or EMS responders.

As a flight nurse who responds to this type of calls regularly, my first thought is NEVER move someone. You can easily make a treatable injury into something far worse. I’ve seen it so many times! If there was only one thing that I could teach everyone in the world who comes upon an injured person is; NEVER MOVE AN INJURED PERSON. People with injuries very often don’t realize that they are actually injured. It sounds strange, but your body protects you. You may not realize your injuries until hours or even days later.
You are truly blessed that your injuries weren’t worse. I’m so glad that you will be ok.
Btw: I’ve never seen your channel before. You just showed up this morning.

Medical insurance is a joke. My husband and I have separate plans because I have a pre-existing condition. I'm sorry. I didn't ask to get an autoimmune disease. How am I at fault? My outlook now is get what needs to be done to be healthy and worry about the bills later.

@@floridasunshine330 After the passing of the ACA (Obamacare) pre existing conditions aren't considered. Your rate is based on age, tobacco use, and your zip code. I'm self employed and have been purchasing my own insurance for almost 20 years. If you're on Medicare there might be different considerations. Yes, it's crazy expensive, but it's not based on your existing conditions, have Hashimoto's so also know what it was like before the ACA to get insurance with an autoimmune disease.

****when it comes to the hospital bills contact the billing department and ask for a financial assistance application. Fill it out and provide all info to see if you qualify thry will probably also make you fill out Medicaid paperwork first but the financial assistance is for people who make more than Medicaid will allow so fill it out because it could take a lot off if not all of the bill away. Every hospital has financial assistance but you have to ask for it they don’t usually tell you about it.

@@Jarheadcampingjunkies yes. More people should take advantage of this. The hospital I worked at always worked with the patients to get them on Medicaid and a payment plan often part/most of the bill would be “written off”. So if you didn’t have enough of a hospital stay the people who do this work may not have seen you while you were in the hospital. Call the billing department. Many hospitals just want to help.

    • @4cindybabe
      @4cindybabe Місяць тому

Yes, please look into financial assistance as it won't hurt to check at the hospital because they base your accumulated medical bill expenses on your yearly income plus assets. It's detailed paperwork with your proven documentation, but well worth it. I'd think you'd be eligible. My husband had no insurance at all and was hospitalized 50 days and miraculously received financial assistance because our combined income as senior citizens was at such a low status he qualified and his entire bill was paid by one or more charity organizations who contribute for such cases like our situation. I'll pray for this for you too. 🙏 🤞

I had a similar injury from downhill skiing and what I learned is that a stable fracture of the vertebrae can quickly become unstable and paralysis inducing if the patient is moved incorrectly. Immediately after my accident I had similar tingling sensations. I was transported to the ER via ambulance and once there I had to remain laying down until I was cleared to sit up with a CT scan. While I am SO GRATEFUL that your injury remained stable and didn’t progress, it would probably have been better if you had let the paramedics stabilize your spinal cord and then transport you via ambulance to the ER because that painful ride over bumpy roads could have resulted in a much more devastating injury.

It looks like you will be fine. Thanks for sharing your very interesting story. Recently I was in the hospital overnight. The bill was $23,000. It is funny how Medicare can pay a small fraction of the over inflated costs and get away with it. My responsibility was about $600. When I was injured in Iraq, by enemy fire, I was hospitalized for 14 days. I had the helicopter medevac from the scene to the hospital, emergency surgery. Then the next day I had a C 17 medevac ICU flight to Germany, with a nice stay in the ICU. Then, after 7 days, I was stable enough to be flown home in a private medevac jet, (I had been a contract employee) to a hospital in Boise. Then I was in that hospital for another 7 days. Followed by several years of physical therapy and out patient doctors/specialist doctors appointments. It took around 10 years to get to my "full" recovery. Luckily, I did not have pay a dime for all of that. Good luck and have fun out there!

We have a lot of greedy and corrupt politicians and drug companies in the US. We really need a revised system, one which limits the terms of the politicians and one which takes the power away from drug companies and hospitals. Things were much better before Obama got into office. His "affordable" health care system is anything but affordable.

***PLEASE READ*** My husband was in a rollover semi wreck on 5/8/2024 he injured his neck / upper spinal are. There is a test that can be ran if warranted (I am copy and pasting it here)>>> EMG stands for electromyography, a diagnostic test that measures muscle and nerve health. It assesses how well muscles respond to nerve stimulation by measuring electrical activity in the muscles. The test can help detect neuromuscular abnormalities, such as nerve dysfunction, muscle dysfunction, or problems with nerve-to-muscle signal transmission. This test did show some sever nerve damage that may need surgery to help. My husband is currently undergoing physical therapy still hoping and praying this will help him stay away from surgery. When you get set up with the doctors you need, this may be a test they will run on you or you can ask them about this test.

I work with radiologists and did transcription for 30+ years before moving to the I.T. side for them. I also worked for a group of neurologists/neurosurgeons. When it is a neck/spine injury, it is best to have a neurosurgeon, even when surgery isn't necessary. Also, with the head injury, even though minor, it is good to see the neurologist or neurosurgeon. Degenerative changes in the spine are normal with age, and usually show up as early as your late 30s. You are very lucky that you did not have more serious injuries, and I'm so glad you were not hurt worse. Oh, after-hours, most hospitals will send images out to a service like StatRad that has radiologists who read studies remotely and give preliminary reports until the staff radiologists can read the studies...but with no internet, they couldn't do that. Take care of yourself, and an orthopedist can actually deal with the degenerative changes in your spine and give you advice on how to try to keep it from getting worse.

Darlene - New to your channel. I too did something unbelievable last month. We were at home. On 7/3 we were watching my son’s dogs and they cry at nite because we don’t let them in the bed. My husband was with our dogs in the master and I was in the guest bedroom adjacent to the room their dogs were in for the nite. I was in the same bed we slept in for 40 years before we bought the new one…so not unfamiliar. But, for some dumb reason, I came into the dark room, went to the other side of the bed and climbed in, sat cross legged on the bed and reached for my iPad. It was when I sat up that I realized my butt was not on the bed and I fell backwards off the bed, crashed into a chair on the way down…. It is a high rice bed so it was a long way down. Like you I started screaming and my husband came running. I kept saying - like you - what have I done…. We went to the hospital not too far away. They have the CT scan etc. I have 2 jagged totally broken ribs and a small broken bone in my back. A month later I don’t think it is healing so back to the ortho this week again. We have 2 trips planned this fall and hopefully I can still go. Been in the recliner for a month now. Such a similar story to yours….doing something different than usual caused a huge mess. Hope you heal well and quickly.

One of the reasons in are 20 years of full time RV’ing we didn’t do much boondocks camping. On our 52 wedding anniversary I lost my husband to a fall he had taken from the moterhome the year before but he never went to doctor believe me I tried but no go. On this day where he had cracked his neck which we didn’t know he had it broke and cut the spinel cord. I begged him to go to the doctor his head looked bad where he hit the concrete and black eye, so please any bad fall go to ER if he had done that could have more than that one year left.

@ireneeickenhorst2326 It's sad that the USA is the only country that the medical system is all in private hands with no national medical system where everyone gets treated without worrying about the cost..
Even in other countries most people working take out an additional private health insurance - nothing the cost of in the USA - which gives them access to more options of treatment if they want it.. faster treatment maybe..
But treatment in the national hospital system once there is top notch..
Also cost of medicines is capped etc
I would be terrified to live in the USA knowing that no matter how hard one worked that all could financially be lost with one major illness or accident in the family..
The stress of that would be too much..

I am so glad you are doing better. I know exactly how terrifying neck injuries are. I fractured my neck when I was ten after being thrown from one of our horses while out riding with my dad. Back then they connected me to a stryker bed in traction for 1 1/2 months. Fast forward 20 years and my dad suffered a much worse neck break from a faulty inversion board. He was in a halo for over 6 months. Thank God that neither of use had nerve damage, were paralyzed, or worse. You've got this! Sending you prayers for fast and full healing.

I'm so sorry you had this happen, and that you realize how very fortunate you still are. Many years ago now I was involved in two very serious accidents in a relatively short period of time (neither was my fault- just unfortunate luck), but both left lasting damage- the second one I was pinned beneath a power & light truck and was cut out with the jaws of life. Life has brought on many other things that occur as a part of living and on Friday I see a neurology pain specialist. After we do what we can for my neck and spine, they will operate again on my leg, But those are things that can be planned for. As a result of these injuries, my falls have done much more damage...so the repairs are the best idea. Don't wait like I have and waste 30 years of life in pain and danger. And the most important advice I can give you: View this as a speedbump- not a roadblock! Attitude sincerely helps!

Oh no! Sometimes the silliest thing can cause the worst outcome. I'm so glad you're doing better; it definitely could've been so much worse. Very grateful you had your family with you!
I know that pain all too well and that neck brace is highly uncomfortable, hated mine, lol. In 12/2019, I was rear-ended and felt perfectly fine until the next day I started feeling dizzy, throwing up and having numbness tingling on my arm down to my fingers, along with severe headache, MRI revealed significant injury to my C4-5 that needed surgery, I was in pain (without pain killers as I'm allergic to them) for almost two years until I found a surgeon I felt comfortable doing spine surgery, which was done on 08/2021, took a long time because of the pandemic, but I felt immediate relief after the surgery. It was because of that accident that I decided to go full time RV living, live like your channel "like there's no tomorrow", tomorrow is certainly not promised.
As a solo traveler, a bad accident like this is one of my biggest worries but won't let that stop me from living.
Sending you my best wishes for a full recovery!

Guys remember that when a bone is broken or fractured it sometimes does not show up right away on x rays CT, or MRI. Why? Because as the break heals it makes calcium that shows up on our machines.
Now here is the kicker. Even if not broken or fractured. The way you landed is probably not the best.
You wouldn't normally fall in this manner. Nerves compressed from potential bulging herniated discs in the neck from the fall are gonna be painful.
So I don't know how you feel about trying natural stuff but from someone who knows try pressure ponts, learn how to read you body and your neck.
I don't take any pain pills. No thanks. I am how ever in a state where THC is legal.
But look all the oils the mint, eucalyptus, even tea tree oils relax all those muscles.
But watch yourself keep a journal from today on.
I had a doctor tell mr to do so. How you feel, pain level, stretching, exercise, anything. Mood changes, head aches. Write it down and take to all appointments. A neurologist might be able to help. But please try to relieve w natural stuff. I take garlic, Apple cider vinegar, pro antibiotic,. cayenne and multi vitamin. These just keep my blood pressure and keep fungal away from invading me. I had an invasive fungal.
But seriously stretch, pressure points find where it is rooting from. I can't imagine being out there w that bad of an injury out there. I can rough it too. But each bump is pain hun. And remember you have to be careful and that is hard to fo there. Hey keep your mind busy on something you can do from a resting point. One of the best ways to control pain is to have something you are passionate about.
You seem like such truly good people. Look it you need anymore to talk to at 2am and are depressed and just mad about the pain please call me. I own a business so answer. And look I did not have anyone to understand. I get it lady. Do not let them pill you to death. And yes you will be sad, mad. But you absolutely should be. Please don't forget Moving Forward FCO Phoenix.

As a retired personal injury lawyer I suggest you consult a board certified personal injury attorney. The culprit in your accident was not the table but the flimsy fence and gate that should have but did not prevent your fall. It was foreseeable to the rv manufacturer that users might stumble against the fence and gate and it should have been sturdy. I would be surprised if there are not other similar toy hauler failures. My best to you both.

Life certainly is full of it's challenges! Things sure can happen that we'd never expect. I recently injured myself simply by sitting on a plastic stool in my garden, just reached too far to pull a weed, the stool came flying out from under me becoming air-born while I went flying off of it & came down hard on a wooden garden stake in the ground & I received the worst bruise I've ever had in my 64 yrs. ( at the top of my thigh). (This is nothing compared to your injury, but wow, the pain was excruciating & I thought to myself, that'll never happen again in a million yrs!) I'm so sorry for your injuries but I do pray that your neck will completely heal itself & you will have no lingering effects from it. God bless you as you recover.
