Please note my mistake in the voice over - accidentally declaring that Pen-y-Fan is the highest mountain in Wales, when it is actually Snowdon!!

You also get it wrong in your notes above, but you can edit this quite easily.

I'm amazed you found the car Abbie. Mind you having awoken from your navigational predicament you were no doubt determined stay oriented. Well, I guess in life you have to lose yourself before you find yourself. A cracking adventure - good laughs and wonderful weather. I do lobe the fan - it's a special place. Thanks for sharing. Mark

Nice job Abbie. I like the way you froze each person as you introduced them to us. Like a Quentin Tarantino film with no cursing.

Hi Abby, as we’re missing out on The Lake District this year we’re having a week in The Beacons in Iate June so I was happy to come across this video. I can easily relate to your gang “getting lost” as my map reading skills are negligible and we can wander a long way before it slowly dawns on us we’re not going where we should be going. I have invested in a gps device as back up, this has given us peace of mind.

I did the Pen Y Fan horseshoe last year and realised after already starting that I was doing it anti-clockwise rather than clockwise or visa versa! It’s not just you ha ha
Corn Du is pronounced “Corn Dee” and translates to black horn in English :) Glad you came to Wales and saw our beautiful mountains!

A great, fun video. I suppose one advantage of (even a cheap) GPS is that you can do a spot check to determine precisely (give or take) where you are. The one (and only so far) time I did Pen y Fan and Corn Du, there had been a massive dump of snow a couple of days beforehand. No crampons or ice axes but we, and a great many others, made it to the top. It was beautiful. Then the rescue helicopter paid us a visit and ushered all of us off the mountain before it got dark! Amazing experience.

Last time I was up there, it was at dawn after a solo wild camp. Would take that over a busy summit any day of the week.

Great recovery from the navigational error. If you had not made the mistake, you would not have had the chance to see the scenery along that route. Great video, keep them coming as you are a great producer, editor and actor.

Great video, Abbie. The last time I was up there it was so foggy I had to ask someone for directions and was the told that the summit was about 20 meters away!

Just completed the horseshoe yesterday. Our first peak we reached was Corn Du, then Pen Y Fan, Cribyn and then Fan Y Big (which had the best views) and is the one many decide not to tackle as the gap road is just before. All in all a FANTASTIC walk, the Horsehoe, walking along the ridge and scaping the lands of Brecon

Love watching this film back every now & then. It was such a fun day, despite our (& I take full navigational error credit with Abbie, it was as much, if not more, my mistake!). Mum has expressed an interest in going up Snowdon, though Dad is less keen! Maybe the next adventure? I’m sure we’re due one!

It wasn't until 5:58 that I realised what had happened. You walked my favourite way around Pen y Fan and until then I was thinking "Well, they haven't gone wrong yet..."

Another enjoyable outing, Abbie. It looks like you went up along the Beacons Way, towards Fan Y Big and then east? I do enjoy the horseshoe walk and it looks like the weather was fantastic for you. Thanks for sharing.

It's great to see you doing "our local." Rosa and I have done this countless times. At first I was confused because it looked like the wrong fan but then (Spoiler alert) IT WAS! We've found the prettiest way to do this is to start near Pontsticill Reservoir, trek to the car park, hike up the right hand side of the tree-line from the abandoned reservoir, circle the fan to the Saddle, Dorn Du, Pen-y-fan then (optional) climb Cribyn and Fan-y-big too before coming back down to the car park.

    • @almor2445
      @almor2445 2 роки тому

The only issue I have with this range is the massive numbers of other people there. Corn Du and Pen-y-fan are packed most times but Cribyn and Fan-y-big are almost always empty. Also if you're ever in the area again, check out the waterfalls. There are several sets in the Beacons but especially Ystradfellte :)

There are two starting point for Pen-Y-Fan. The car park in the woods or next to the Storey Arms.

We unfortunately are used to mountain fires 🔥 from Easter time onwards, where some little darlings set fire to them in closer populated it can get worrying to the fire brigades and local residents. One place I lived in the Rhondda the fire crews would leave there tenders outside our house and go up the mountain to try and put them out.

    Whoops! slight geographical miscalculation.
Made for a good film though, i was planning on hiking pen y fan with my 6 year old daughter for her first mountain. But the weather man said it wasn't such a good idea on the weekend we had planned. Will have to plan it again soon.
    Thanks for sharing.

Just came across this video, really enjoyed it. Haven't read all the comments so don't know if any one has mentioned your pronunciation . There is no 'V' in the Welsh language, so if you see a word with one 'F' it is pronounced as a 'V' so Pen-y-Fan is pronounced Pen- ee-van. Mind you I have trouble pronouncing some English place names and English is my first language :)
