It's hilarious to me that Kenneth Copeland calls ordinary people demons when he's the single most demonic-looking person on the planet. Nobody can tell me he's not wearing a skin suit.
Hey Kevin, I grew up in the houston area and was there during Hurricane Harvey. I can confirm that Joel Osteen did not offer shelter to anyone despite his church being such a large holy place perfectly capable of doing so. But you know who did offer up shelter and meals for free? Mattress Mack. A 72 year old veteran who owns a mattress store in Houston. Practically everyone in Texas knows him. His kindness knows no bounds, and he gave all he could to help those in need- something Mr. Osteen didn’t do half of despite his enormous wealth.
Then this past midterms they tried canceling the only man (mack)who consistently gives back to the community more than any politician in the state because this generation found out he was Republican 😅 htx is really is weirder than atx sometimes and we already have Ted Cruz
As a spanish native child reading murican books i was SO CONFUSED with what pastors were. because pastor in spanish means herder, as in a shepherd. I was so confused as to why all shepherds in the US were that religious, what the deal with their "meetings" was and why everyone respected them so much. I highly suspected it had to do with the legacy of cowboys.
That might actually have something to do with the term, interestingly. As the psalm goes, "The Lord is my shepherd", etc. A pastor as a kind of religious guide, in a way. I don't know for sure, but it's a possibility. Edit: Did some searching, and apparently it does come from the Latin term/noun "pastor", meaning shepherd.
Some people call followers of a pastor/priest/vicar etc the ‘flock’ because in the Bible there is a lot of sheep metaphors. Like, stories where a Shepard looks after all his sheep and even if one sheep goes missing the Shepard will go look for that one sheep etc.
Oh yeah. We don't even have any local millionaire pastors (to my knowledge) but we do have one "six flags over Jesus" type church and a whole bunch of people unironically listen to Joel Osteen. Even while I was still attending church, I found that ridiculous. I can't imagine what it's like in a conservative area of the South.
@@lemon4087 That's what everyone who doesn't attend calls them. I'm sure the people that go there don't. But in my mind, it's more than just being a church with money - plenty of "smaller" churches aren't hurting for cash. When your church is a damn convention center and your services are literal rock concerts with laser and fog machines, now we're in mega church territory.
Kevin discovering mega- churches is somewhat healing for me. Knowing people in other countries hear about it and know it’s weird immediately is so good
I'm in Canada and to me it just explains a lot about America This one time a pastor was going to my old church to try to pastor there and I found out he was a fraud and warned everyone. He did t get to be a pastor there, apparently he even had criminal record for fraud.
Even for people like me, who was raised mostly catholic (neither my mom or dad practiced religion, but I went to catholic schools all my life), it's insane seeing these insane pastors. I'm not religious anymore, but they are exactly how I would imagine how fake preachers or demons derailing people would look like lmao
same it's absolutely wild to me hearing even from like. i've heard from people with full religious wars in their countries go "yikes y'all have those creepy cults"
Yeah, I’m new to Kevin but I watch a lot of these types of videos and his approach was by far the easiest on the ears. Most outside the US opinions are😂
My dad is a biblical literalist and I’m an atheist, but one of the few things we agree on besides “the sky is blue” is that these mega church pastors are super greedy and awful.
Tell him to read Contra Celsum. It has been declared the greatest apologist work ever a suitable defence against any heresy that was or could be. It touches on the subject of biblical literalism. It is a bit heavy handed on the subject but it gets the point across that it is an infantile way of approaching theology. Also maybe read it yourself 😉 it's actually quite good. I believe you can also find what remains of Celsums argument online though it is incomplete and much of it was lost to history.
Tbh the Bible warns about people like these mega churches. Wolf in sheep's clothing. That hurt people's relationship with God by making people believe this is what it's all about. Not even close.
As an American, I can still barely believe this "scam" still exists. Also I love that the psycho "super" priest was yelling about covid to an empty room.
@@weirdo9958 no true Scotsman fallacy. This is real Christianity just as much as Christian nationalism is real Christianity or more socialist sects Its really important to point this out because I knew Christians who didn't think Catholics were real Christians and wanted to send missionaries to Ireland to convert them. They're still Christian, just worship differently and believe different things. As soon as you denounce what is real/fake someone will do the same to your denomination
As a Christian, everything you said is correct. These preachers are not Christians. They are businessmen using the ignorance and weakness of people to make money. Thank you for bringing light to these terrible people.
These preachers ARE Christians. To try and differentiate yourself based on some abstract "true" value is to try to ignore the problem your organization perpetuates. Christians need to be the ones to clean their own house. And the beginning of that work is realising that these folks you don't want to associate yourself with ARE Christians.
My grandma got pulled into one of these “churches” that heal you with the spirit. They had her thinking she could go off her meds and that she didn’t need to go to a doctor. She’s had polio, two botched back surgeries, cartilage degeneration in her shoulders and knees which leave her in a wheelchair most days because of the pain to walk. I was ready to take some people out when she finally started listening to us and got back on her meds and seeing her doctors. These people are the original pyramid schemers I swear. ‘These people is referring to being the ones using religion to make there own personal money.’
I can imagine wanting a big audience and putting on a show for them, but acting as a spiritual healer when you know you're not (I'm sure these guys know they aren't healers) is just wrong on so many levels. Can't they just be motivational speakers or comedians, so people know what they're up for? They probably like the power that comes with being leader of a church.
Pyramid schemes rob Peter to pay Paul. These mega pastors Rib Peter AND Paul. And Peter and Paul love it. Who consenting adults believe in doesnt matter to me- i just feel bad for the kids who get dragged along to these charlatan shows.
To be fair, anyone dumb enough to believe in and follow a guy like Kenneth Copeland, or any of these people, deserves whatever they get (or whatever they lose, more accurately.)

Churches have had concerts basically forever. Just imagine Bach used to perform a cantata every sunday in the Leipzig church of St Thomas. If that's not a concert, idk what is.
@@EugeneOneguine Yeah but these Cantatas had actual liturgical content in them and not just some "Jesus is the greatest" bullshit as megachurches have
There's actually a reason for this. Contemporary music can emotionally prime an audience so they are more susceptible to influences. This only escalates when crowd starts doing something in unison or sharing deeply personal testimonies with strangers Every year at church camp I've dealt with this. The entire week of sermons, music, guilt 3x a day lead up to an emotional last day bonfire sermon. Emotional guilt could've been anything, one pastor I knew said his youth group had a "burn pile" for things that kept them away from God. People would start by sharing testimonies, people would be crying before the actual sermon started because of sharing deeply traumatic things that led them to Christ. One time there was an alter call at the sermon so you just had a whole bunch of teens bowing in front of this bonfire. I always thought that if some guy was lost in the woods and saw us they'd run away lol

I have had the unfortunate experience of meeting both Kenneth Copeland and Jesse Duplantis, as well as attending church services (as a child) where they were speaking. As someone who escaped the clutches of these kinds of churches, it is such a relief to see and hear that I'm not alone in thinking this type of faith is cultish or absurd. Thanks for the great video, Kevin!
I just hope that you do not take all churches to be like this, because they truly aren't. These are the minority with loud voices and a large audience, but it doesn't mean that Christians as a whole are like this
You are definitely not the only one thinking that, these "churches" are ridiculous and shouldn't be allowed to exist. They bilk poor people out of their hard-earned money so they can buy a yacht, it's disgusting.
I remember my religious mom telling me about a time she went to a “healing” church and she sat up front. Pastor came and pushed her forehead and she caught herself. He continued to push harder and harder until she fell. She resisted the whole time just confused as hell. She was like “i dont wanna be on the ground what is happening???”. She very much believes in god but we dont believe in the dramatics of it all.
AH, yeah its so off how ppl force 'being slain by the spirit' and falling over. it happened to me at a church camp- i was rocking on my feet cause i was bored and then two people came over and kinda rocked me to the ground T.T? like i was just lying there awkward for minutes

As a Pastor in the United States I agree with everything you say, Kevin. It’s scary how much hold these people have in taking advantage of others. Preach it Kevin!! :-)
Yeah. These people existing are concerning, but it's even more concerning how much of a following they have. It makes me wonder what they're preaching if they have that influence.
I've met pastors and preachers of both extremes. One man I knew was a very frugal but poor man who preached to a small church. He got a severe disease and was even mostly wheelchair bound. He still drug himself out of bed to go and read the Bible to his small church. Up until the day he passed. On the other hand I've met pompous blowhards who spout nonsense that makes it understandable why some people come to hate the faith. On a similar note I've asked questions about religion on public platforms before. Some people attack you and some people politely answer the question. The religion at its core isn't as bad as the mainstream tries to portray it but there are bad actors that give it a bad name around many corners.
@@Kimmie6772 From what I've seen of clips of these preachers (the super church ones in the video) is that they make the most superficial and greed based promises. Native Texan here, during hurricane Harvey my mom was separated from our family for three days due to flooding ten feet high over the freeway. I remember watching people stuck, unable to escape the Houston area bc the roads were literally rivers. All while this happened, I saw a picture of the "flooding" happening in Joel Osteen's church on the news. It was a puddle. Edit: All that said, I am a Christian. The church I went to before joining the military was in a converted HEB. The floors were concrete, the chairs were plastic, and the decor was mostly lights hung around the ceiling, walls, and stage. All for the sake of putting the money into building the church in other places and glorifying God through service. Edit 2: Btw that church is actually on UA-cam. Church Project is the name.
As a Christian myself, these people are truly disgusting. They use religion as an excuse to make money and manipulate others who may be struggling to find a way in life. Religion is commonly found by people who are seeking some sort of purpose (for me it was a way to pull myself out of depression and extreme anxiety) and these people are blatantly taking advantage of struggling individuals.
PLEASE DO MORE. As a American Christian, all of these is wild. Money should go to actually helping people instead of paying pastors. Some churches actually do that.
As an American, I ask myself the same question all the time. Darren Brown, the magician/mentalist did a show called "Miracles For Sale" where he explains all about how "faith healing" works. Yes, there's a reason a magician can explain it; a lot of our methods are also used by con-artists.

Kevin's reaction to what their churches look like got me going. I had the same reaction when I got invited to a jesus-camp by a friend as a kid. I was raised anglo-catholic and walking into a modern, air conditioned, and clean carpeted church with a light show floored me. They don't even have any stained glass or incense 🥲 I didn't know what to do when the pastor starting singing and talking to Jesus directly or when my camp counsellor started sobbing in the middle of the service. I'm also not kidding when I tell you the pastor started justifying his adultery in college to a room of small children... I was 10. It was wild. Didn't have to recite Latin 10/10
I was forced to go to church camp every year. I have a theory that the reason people start breaking down and sobbing during worship is that they have been worn down throughout the day and then forced to stand in a tent and listen to bad music for hours when they are already extremely tired and hungry…Or is this just my experience? Maybe it’s the adhd but I always felt like it dragged on and on and never ended. I wanted to leave so badly. Like how long do we really need to do this for? Cause I think god gets it by now lmao.
I had the opposite experience as a kid. I grew up nondenominational and went to churches with modern worship bands and light shows and hallelujah praises. But then one summer my parents put me in a summer camp at a Catholic church. It was a huge culture shock and confused about having to cite the lord's prayer at the beginning and end of the day and doing the hand gestures.

These mega church pastors tend to follow something called prosperity gospel. Basically, they believe that wealth is a sign of God's favor. The belief goes directly against what Jesus says in the bible, but that doesn't stop them.
Right. They may or may not realise this, but I do believe that this is an actual evil. There's no moral justification for keeping that MUCH money to yourself as a religious leader. So many homes and helpful things could be built with the excess of their income, while still allowing them to live very comfortably in a nice home of their own (which is what gets me the most -- it's not even asking them to have absolutely nothing).
Well, Jesus did say: So prayeth on the poor. And praised be the fruit that groweth from those gifts they cannot afford. And rise to thine Lord by aviation, on the wings of a preferably not second-hand private plane, so thou can looketh down upon thy sheep and laugh in joy.

I think many of them started out right and then realized how hard as a rock they got when people ate up every word they said. A sense of power beyond their wildest fantasies. And then when they couldn't get enough of that power alone, they chose to turn it into profit, money being the purest form of power.

I mean they herd people into their churches lol
Some people call followers of a pastor/priest/vicar etc the ‘flock’ because in the Bible there is a lot of sheep metaphors. Like, stories where a Shepard looks after all his sheep and even if one sheep goes missing the Shepard will go look for that one sheep etc.
I thought Pastor was some kind of delicious pig meat.

There's actually a reason for this. Contemporary music can emotionally prime an audience so they are more susceptible to influences. This only escalates when crowd starts doing something in unison or sharing deeply personal testimonies with strangers
Every year at church camp I've dealt with this. Not just the south but sorry to hear. I couldnt live in a red state.
oof
South seems pretty cool, I’m sure it’s just a group of loud people that make everyone look bad

America will never cease to amaze me as a country and as society
Me too 😵
Yeah, we should have a revolution already and fix this place, separation of church and state needs to be restored
I think that the only reason we keep hearing about the wacky side of the USA is because the USA is a well-known country. Wackier stuff actually goes on in other parts of the world, but the only difference is that these places are less popular and so they don't make the news often. E.g. in some parts of Africa it's believed that if you want to make quick money, you can do a secret ritual that involves having gay sex! Plus these super pastors and churches also exist in many other countries like Philippines and Nigeria.
Do you mean the continent? Because that’s true, in Central America we have mega wealth pastors who are preaching exactly like Kenneth Copeland. Cash Luna is literally a Central American Kenneth Copeland. He refused to open his church for those who were in desperate need for a place to rest after several tragedies happened in my country.

I shouldn't lie, Kenneth Copeland's face during that interview plus his voice is terrifying
He looks like he is a demon actually wearing human skinsuit. Terrifying.

I did not expect to see Kevin doing the Lord's work today, but here we are.
Keep exposing lunatics like these, Kevin!
Amen 😂
I'm starting to think that Kevin is turning into one.
I don’t know if you’ll actually see this, but Kevin, please do more reaction videos. I love your take on things you have such a good soul and it’s fun to watch you watch ridiculous people doing ridiculous things! I love you man keep up the good work!
As an actor, the gig I want more than anything is to be hired by a crazy mega church to be "healed" lol
Aren't they just people that are sucked into the whole shebang?
@@Its_Me_Romano Not sure. But it would be bad if someone had some doubts and then didn’t react to the “healing”. Also, they can’t actually make a lame person walk no matter how much the lame person believes it. So it has to be actors.
@@SmirkJerk Also adrenaline but adrenaline can only go so far
Only if you go public afterwards on how you intentionally got on as a joke, like those punk band people who faked drama to get on Jerry Springer.
I want to specifically go to a Benny Hinn concert, ask for healing, stand in front of him when he tries to "heal" me and just stand there with a blank expression on my face refusing to fall over. 😂
Kevin, I wanna say that you embracing your ADHD and diving DEEP into rabbit holes with all us other ADHD people is refreshing and fun.
My greatgrandmother took me to a megachurch one sunday because her church was closed that week. I can say now looking back on it that it feels like if a cult chose to host a concert but it was set up by an MLM. Concerning energy even as a kid.
You're right it really gives off mlm vibes
As an American I always knew about these growing up, but seeing it through your eyes in a fresh ways just reinforces how crazy it is. Your Benny Hinn commentary had me laughing hysterically (dare I saw rolling on the floor?).
My former pastor was a veteran, a volunteer fire fighter and after he "retired" he worked as a school bus driver and now volunteers as an associate pastor at another church, I still find it weird that he retired only to start working again, but I guess some people just can't retire
Some people just get bored in retirement. Might as well do something more while you're still young in spirit I guess
Kevin's running commentary while "Pastor" Hinn was slaying his congregation with the Spirit was everything I didn't know I needed.
My mom constantly listens to Joel Osteen and it drives me crazy. Seeing Kevin react to that guy made my day lol

Yeah as someone who lives really close to Joel Osteen’s church and as a Christian I genuinely hate him as a person. He’s manipulative and deceptive and shouldn’t be classified as a priest by any means priest do it out of the goodness of their heart not for money
It's sad and vile seeing people taking advantage of people's faith. Regardless of whether someone is a believer or not, it's disgusting to take advantage of something that's means so much to people. :(
yea watching the clips makes me sad
Especially since they're unbiblical false teachings. Mike Winger does great vids on Kenneth Copeland and Joel Osteen that even if you aren't religous may find shocking to see how far removed from scripture their teachings are. Plus he occasionally does videos clearing up a lot of questions and misconceptions even some Christians have.
@@youtubestayatyourrootsforfsake watch his videos on it. Not just the thumbnails. You're an athiest correct? So you don't believe in a soul. As a Christian I believe in a soul. I believe in a soul at conception. Even if you don't you should surely realise why we can't and I won't. They're kids. You don't and I believe in that you are in error. But do you think that's hateful? I don't want kids to die. I think the world is sick and evil and rather than confront or admit it is sinful, it chooses to justify its sin and call righteousness wicked. Now I don't think (or hope) that you think it's really a baby though this is debated even among athiests. You probably have no malign intent so I want to say outright I'm not trying to paint you as some sick bugger who murders kids for pleasure. But regardless of how you feel I know as a Christian it is wicked. There are blurry lines of course, when a mothers life is danger. I defy you, seriously to watch his videos that bother you, listen and say you think he's hateful or loving. He isn't being judgemental about people's issues seriously, don't judge by a thumbnail. There is no condemnation of individuals by him, just the sin.
@@connordorman117 As a Christian myself I'm so curious how they justify this if they really believe in the Bible.
@@dalpz205 they may be just manipulating Christians for money or they actually believe the cherry picked gospels they use out of context that tell them about prayer gifts.
I was someone who grew up going to a church that did "the pushing down thing" and had it happen to me. it's a combination of wanting to believe, being emotionally primed from the music and service before and a heaping helping of peer pressure. Even if I didn't feel much of anything I would still fall down because no one wants to be the one that isn't a good enough Christian that the holy spirit isn't effecting you
Grew up in one as well. When me and my brother where really little, we would paly a game where we screamed 'be healed' and pushed the backwards onto the bed. ahh...childhood innocence just thought it was funny what they were doing.
The issue is that people don't know what is truly means to be "Christian" and because of this confusion, things like this madness happen, it's quite sad.
That's what happens when you stray away from true religion, no church in eu does that, in fact many cathedrals are still being built today for hundreds of years because they build using charity and donations
I was wondering about that. Thanks for explaining and sorry you had to put up with that.
I have so much relevant trauma that I literally cannot watch this full video, but wanted to pop in and say thanks for exposing some of this stuff. It's out there really hurting people. You're great 👍

Everyone already knows about this it's just for entertainment
I grew up with the teachings of these super pastors. Over time, my family as a whole has moved away from them. I'm glad to see that were not the only ones who see the ridiculousness of it all. Fantastic job as always Kevin!
Congrats, maybe🤔
Seeing the number of people involved in these cults is terrifying. As an American, I wonder how many people around me are part of this madness.
These are some of the tamer people who've commandeered the Republican party, so, y'know, probably a lot of them.
I'm only bringing politics into this because that's what they did, Owen Morgan (Telltale) has multiple channels and weekly livestreams about this and related societal issues.
I'm gonna leave it at that, since political disscussion isn't something I'm planning on getting into here.
I’m a religious person of the Christian variety and I am deeply disgusted by a lot of people who use our religion to their benefit. Be it people trying to push their government agenda, trying to control women and minorities including LGTBQ+ people, tricking people out of money. I especially dislike and very skeptical about mega churches. I live in an area where they are very prominent (Texas) and it’s astounding how these churches especially manipulate and take advantage of people.
That guy getting interviewed by inside edition gave me the heebie jeebies. Like actually activated my fight or flight response. I can’t believe that reporter was able to stay that close to him for that long. I would have BOLTED as soon as he made that comment about the eyes.
How can someone that creepy be a religius leader is beyond me. Faith must dull people senses.
I grew up in a church that did that Benny Hin stuff, it is now a mega church. It really pissed me off when my family was struggling to afford things, and the pastor's kids came to school in BMWS and Mercedes. Thanks for giving me a chance to laugh at this insane religious stuff 🤣. I loved your reactions to the crazy stuff from America 🤣🤣😊

These churches are worse
I went to a school that was owned by a huge church, but when it got destroyed by a flash flood, the church "didn't have the money" for repairs and shut it down. Next year, 2 more churches were built
What always strikes me as weird with these pastors is that I’m pretty sure Jesus wouldn’t approve of hoarding that kind of money. Yet they justify it. It’s wild to me. Anyway, love the video, and love this kind of content. 💕
These mega church pastors tend to follow something called prosperity gospel. Basically, they believe that wealth is a sign of God's favor. The belief goes directly against what Jesus says in the bible, but that doesn't stop them.
Mega church pastors are usually hypocrites and closer to snake oil salesmen.
i'm gonna go on limb here and say they aren't religious people at all but con-artis....
Dude, I’m a pastor’s kid watching this, and to be honest, I aspire to be a pastor, so thank you for calling these wackos out.
Go for it man! Serve the Lord however he calls you. These mega churches are terrible but a small town church truly cares for its community. Christ is King!

I friggin love that Kevin invented Jim Pickens without this as a reference point
as a christian, i can say a lot of mega pastors who started out being "for the Lord" have definitley fallen from grace and landed in the worldly aspect of their wealth
they were always in it for the money, its the easiest thing to scam
As an atheist, how can you still be a part of modern "attack everyone who's different" christianity and sleep at night? Not even trying to be mean, I'm genuinely asking. Like it makes zero sense to me. If an organization I was involved in suddenly started going after LGBTQ people id nope the f**k out so fast it would look like I teleported

So proud of Kevin for this and putting out something that could be controversial in a way he hasn’t really touched on before. Brave to speak out when backlash could be harsh.
Kenneth talking to interviewers looks like, sounds like, and speaks like a character Kevin would make in a "pastor simulator"
Anyone who knows Kevin knows how truly terrifying this is when its actually just reality
Now now, lets not demonize Kevin characters. Sure, they are monsters, but they are usually inocent at heart. Not innerly creepy like this so called preacher.
I legitimately get triggered by people at conferences who talk or teach the same way these people do because of being constantly exposed to it as a kid. The trauma is real.
Dude I feel you. I didnt go to a mega church but a small Baptist one that kicked me out for being gay. This happened about 5 years ago now, I was 19 and had been a member for about 4 years
And before anyone comments, I know that not every church denomination is like this. I have trans friends who are the most devout caring Catholics you can imagine. It's just that consistently the churches I grew up with were hostile towards LGBT people and sort of Christian nationalist

I actually grew up going to gateway church, my grandma was “close” with kenneth Copeland and my cousins idolize Joel olsteen. It’s funny, I remember being so star struck that the Jonas brothers went to the same church as me. I remember going to super kids academy and having a Bible from there. Now that I’m older I completely denounce prosperity gospel and see the evil in it. If makes me so sad that they take advantage of our elders.
Out of curiosity, do they also have young people attending? Or are they starting to lack new people? And are there young pastors or are they all old? Because if they only have a majority of older people, then at least I can hope that in some years they will start loosing power.
Now, a TikTok pastor would be insane, but I honestly feel it's possible.
It’s disappointing to see how popular Joel Osteen is, his true colours were shown when he didn’t immediately open up his Church and home when his city flooded. I wonder what Jesus would say about his Church 🤔
Amen. I've said this a lot in these comments but I maintain, anyone wondering how unbiblical the prosperity gospel and their teachings are, watch Mike Winger as I maintain he is the best one at comparing scripture against their words. Plus Joel Osteen took legal action against him which shows he's on the right track.
I also grew up going to gateway. 100% agree. It's so sad how they take advantage of others. I remember feeling really ostracized as a kid because I didn't like all the same things everyone else did. They also would talk so much about how women are subservient to men in relationships, and it used to make me so angry lol. Also, fun fact, Gateway has (or at least when I was there years ago) cattle on it's premises so that it can get tax exemptions on a portion of their property. As if they really need it

I think many of them started out right and then realized how hard as a rock they got when people ate up every word they said. A sense of power beyond their wildest fantasies. And then when they couldn't get enough of that power alone, they chose to turn it into profit, money being the purest form of power.
