    Autumn, I found your channel about a month ago. I am a 58 year old man, faced with having to loose 160 pounds. I have implemented your expert advice. After 31 days I'm so happy to report a loss of 22 pounds. Also, for the first time in years, im not craving sugar and mass carbs. I have a long way to go, but this is about undoing years of terrible eating habits and changing my life. I'm grateful for your advice...thank you...Mike

    Your vids are the best. They break things down soooo simply. I've been hearing all these things for years but no one ever put them together like you do. Even with my trainers it was don't eat this don't drink that but then I'd put on weight after because there was no correlation as to how all of this stuff works together.

      Which type of magnesium? Citrate or glycinate?

    • @TurdFurgeson571
      @TurdFurgeson571 2 роки тому

      @@elletravels882 idk for sure. Probably citrate, but it likely doesn't actually matter which form you find it in. The citrate or glycinate will just act as a kind of stabilizer until you ingest it, at which time your body absorbs the Mg and degrades the citrate or glycinate. Supposedly these molecules can also help improve Mg absorption. I'm not 100% on whether that's true. But, either way, without them, the Mg would just try to bind to whatever it could and this binding would cause the Mg to oxidize before the supp ever left the factory. That's what I mean when I say they stabilize the Mg, they prevent that oxidation so the supp can be delivered to you, and eventually to your cells.
      Cool hey?

    I lost 31 lbs since the beginning of this year by doing fasting. I had lost weight before doing keto but it wasn't working this time. I watched some Dr. Fung (and even Snake Diet) vids and their argument makes sense. Basically, when fasting, you turn off any insulin spikes at all and just eat the food you've already stored onto your body as fat. Even eating foods that cause lower insulin spikes like fats and proteins still trigger them. And also, you're body is going to eat that food before it starts eating the food on your body anyway. The whole 3 meals a day or more just won't work because you never get a chance to eat your body fat.
    On top of that, you don't want to follow the old rule of eat less and exercise. If your maintenance calories are 2500 and you start eating 2000 or 1500 calories a day to lose weight, your metabolism will reset to the lower number. That's why anyone who's tried that method found that as soon as they started eating their old maintenance calories again, they shot back up in weight and often even gained extra. It's why you never see a reunion show with the Biggest Loser Cast. They almost all gained the weight back and often more.
    With fasting, you don't slow your metabolism. You just switch from glucose energy to energy stored on your body with ketones. In more primitive times, we'd eat in the summer and put on weight when food was plentiful and then switch to the fat we put on plus whatever critters we could catch in the winter when food was scarce. It's why we survived as a species.
    At the moment, I'm doing 3 day fasts (I had to work up to it), with a healthy meal after 72 hours. I also drink salty water to keep my electrolytes up as salts aren't stored in your fats. So half a tsp of salt, half a tsp of potassium chloride, in 2 litres of clean water. I still have some black coffee in the morning cus I don't want to go through caffeine withdrawals and I go for a walk every day and do some a little bit of weights though never to max.
    Dr. Fung talks a lot about autophagy that fasting triggers too which is basically your body eating the dead cells and replacing them with new healthier ones so you appear younger. It can apparently eat through loose skin and stretch marks too. Oh and the hunger pains don't increase as you go day by day. They come in waves and then disappear. So I didn't have to worry about that either. So far, loving the results and will probably keep fasting on Omad when I've gotten down to my ideal for maintenance and because of the health effects from fasting..

    Hey there! Love your content, I just started my IF journey and had a quick question. According to the protein calculation I should be getting 200g of protein/day. I’m finding this to be extremely difficult with the 3 meals/day 16:8 IF schedule I’m on. Also, I’m just not hungry enough to get that much protein in. I should mention I’m currently strength training 4 days/week. Any advice?

Great advice....however, no one seems to address the sleep issue as it pertains to people who work nightshift (like me), most information seems to be geared towards people who have a conventional schedule of a "9-5". I just found your channel and I am feeling so motivated again. I never tracked macros because it seemed so confusing, you made it so easy! I fall into the category of a high stress job. One night per week I work 36 hours straight and tend to get about 5 hours of sleep during that time. The other days I can get 6-8 hours of sleep. Is it okay to do HIIT/strength training on the days I get enough sleep and stick to walking on the days I only get 5 or less hours of sleep or should I be avoiding high intensity workouts?

    Hey there autumn, do you have any suggestions for people who work 2nd shift? I work from 4 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. 5 days a week oh, so I don't get up at 7 or 8 a.m. like most people do. I wake up somewhere between 10:30 and 11 a.m. . I'm not hungry when I first wake up so I do start my day with a glass of lukewarm water followed by my daily cup of coffee. I usually eat around 1:30 p.m. or 2 p.m. which usually consists of avocado toast a smoothie or maybe one egg and one piece of toast. Then I don't eat dinner until about 6:30 p.m. which is usually something continue protein and a vegetable or maybe a soup or a sandwich with a piece of fruit. Break time is 9:30 p.m. which usually consists of a protein bar, trail mix, a piece of fruit or crackers and cheese. Then I don't eat again until the following day around 1:30 or 2 p.m. .

    Love your videos! I do have a couple questions about all the information you have shared.
    You talk a lot about satiating foods and intermittent fasting. How long of a fast do you recommend for women? If you are feeling hungry during a fast, does that cause your body to reduce its metabolic rate?
    I’m doing 14:10 intermittent fasting with morning and afternoon walks that get me to roughly 15k steps. I also do light stretching and sometimes a little weight lifting. I consume roughly 1300 cal per day and burn roughly 2600. I feel good but am I not eating enough? I’m worried I’m hurting my metabolism and I won’t continue the fat loss I’ve seen over the last few weeks.
    Last question, what is your take on apps like My Fitness Pal and Fitbit?
    Thanks for all the information and help!

    My problem is not falling asleep but, STAYING asleep..i don't do caffeine, my room is cool and dark, I take magnesium and meletonin about an hour before bed, I do look at my phone but I wear good blue light glasses, I use a weighted blanket ( if it's cool enough) I play sleep sounds, and try meditation..but still wake up several times..sometimes for hours

    Urgent question! I am trying the intermittent fasting, and I also feel like I shouldn’t eat breakfast. If I use a protein shake as a breakfast substitute, is that ok? But won’t it spike my insulin? Because premier protein vanilla shake is super sweet to me even though it’s only 1 gram of sugar. Please help.

      Hi Winny! I actually have a blog post that covers exactly this question! You can find it here: www.autumnellenutrition.com/post/should-you-actually-break-your-fast-with-a-protein-shake-fasting-do-s-and-don-ts

    Great video. I have such stubborn belly fat holding on for dear life to me. Ugh. I hate it lol. Hopefully with better sleep, my stomach will shrink. I see weight loss in my arms, legs, face, but not stomach. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🙂 I also have a quick question. I don’t eat sugar, but I use gummy vitamins, which contain sugar, will 8 grams of sugar a day contribute to belly fat?

    • @AutumnBates
      @AutumnBates  3 роки тому

      It just depends on how carbohydrate sensitive your body is as well as what types of foods you're already eating throughout the day. As a rule of thumb, I generally stay away from gummy vitamins due to the added sugar.

    I use an oura ring which I find really good but still want to try this app. I clicked onto your link and entered all the questions. It is giving me a 7 day free trial and then £35 annually. Is this with the 40% off? Doesn’t seem right.

      Hi Bally! I've just reached out to Rise App to have them check in on this - I'll update you with the details once they email me back. Regarding the Oura Ring, the Rise App syncs with Oura. It also syncs with Fitbit, which I've used that combination as well, and it can really enhance the Rise App experience!

      Hi Bailey - I totally understand. I would first focus on the quality of your food before diving into Intermittent Fasting. A lot of progress can be made with this step alone. This is actually something I discussed a LOT in my most recent livestream (which you can find here: ua-cam.com/video/y5QD3TlTObI/v-deo.html) Focus on your food first. That's a great first step. I also have quite a few free recipes you can experiment with here: ua-cam.com/play/PLamXkvGEvGD6qMKIyPJ8Z36A3DbPjcFMX.html

      Hi! It's EXTREMELY important to be getting enough nutrients for the growth of your child during pregnancy. For this reason, eating full satiating meals and not incorporating a fast may be a better option for you at this time.

    Been on Keto for about a week and a half. Have been experiencing fatigue. I started out at 242lbs I sleep pretty good for being 60 years old. Weight is down to 234lbs. I mean sitting around I’m fine but doing a simple 5 mile walk I couldn’t do it, I could only do about 2 maybe 3 miles. Before my conversion to Keto I could walk 6 to 7 miles a day. I have been walking that far for about a year now 4 to 6 days a week. I never really lost any weight that is what led me to Keto. My question is will this fatigue vanish or is this a normal way of KETO?

    Hello Autumn, Many thanks for your videos - the content is excellent! I thought I was 'educated enough' when it comes to nutrition but I have learnt a lot from you.
    The only - can you please slow down a little? I am not at all trying to criticize your accent and style BUT after approx. 2 minutes of the non-stop but fast talk in the style/accent of yours, me and most my Scottish friend just cannot take any more, mute you and only rely on subtitles. In other words, the headache from the non-stop talk is not worth the information you can convey - and you obviously have a great amount of knowledge!
    Just a thought for consideration. Maybe fellow Americans don't find your way of talk not as overwhelming? Not sure... Thanks and ALL THE BEST! mk x
