I can honestly say I have never seen better fog composition images. Truly masterful fog pictures. 🤣 I liked the second picture better. The orange color just popped a little more.
Another hilarious film Gavin. Took a look at both photo's and for me the first I prefer. The illuminated mist from the tree line breaks the shot up along with the whole frame being a fair bit brighter with a better spread light.
Another fun video! I think the 2nd photo is the better one. My jaw was on its way to being closed after seeing the first one, but when the second one came on screen , my jaw hit the floor again. The light was exquisite, and the way the valley was lit just took my eyes through the frame so much better than in the first one. Kudos to the whole group for having the patience to wait out the fog.
Yep, 2nd one. This has brighter color and certainly has a greater sense of depth! Being critical here, I am surprised you didn't give the sky a bit more breathing room. Maybe one or more of your clients on this "run" talked 'ya into it, yeah, I think that's what took place. Another entertaining episode, thanks!
The first half of this video is so funny. Just high quality humor that makes me laugh out loud all the time. I prefer this level of class over toilet humor, that for some reason I don’t find really funny. And that second valley image just strikes the cord of majesty! Awesome.
Magnifiqua! It looks like you had a good time waiting in the fog - despite the dead pan group. Good thing Chris was along to spice things up a bit! Keep up the good work and the 5 something ratings on your workshops. Cheers!
Love seeing you enjoying the beauty of Canada’s Ocean Playground. Especially “The Home of Our Hearts, Cape Breton” ❤️ 📷 P.S. I think Cape Clear photo from your next day visit :)). Count me in for the next Hardcastle Photobook Extravaganza 🙂
Brilliant video to start the new year! I thought it was the funniest I’ve seen. I’m voting for the second shot it was absolutely beautiful, stunning colors🤩🤩🤩
In conditions like these I would recommend putting the lens cap back on. It keeps the image minimalistic but adds so much more contrast to the scene. Makes a world of a difference.
Love this video and the humour. The first one I'm watching on your channel, and it drew me in immediately. My mother was born in Cape Breton, Sydney Mines, to be exact. I visited in 2017 to spread her ashes and fell in love with the place. I was born and raised in the Caribbean, so it's very different from what I grew up with.
With having spent three full summers up to thanksgiving there, I can say that the fog on the Cabot Trail is outstanding. I have driven the trail more than nine times in one direction and several the other way too. \every time you go out you see something different. Go to Neal's harbour inlet and then take the road through town and it will take you to Whites Point. After Whites Point there is one big switch back curve that looks back at whites Point and you can see how the lava flowed and the granite formed.. Like I said before, you will leave a chunk of your heart in Cape Breton. I know I did. I like # 1
The second shot is my favourite. Brilliant episode. It would have been so funny if Shauna had painted Thomas Heaton on the wall...focus stacking fog lol lol lol...I don't know how you manage to keep your faces straight, though the bloopers show the truth lol...brilliant. Best wishes.
I remember doing the skyline trail there in the early 2000's it was the only bright day on the trip, and I was in full tourist mode. I didn't know anything, just me and my Sony a9 at the time. I was out on the end of the point, and there were these amazing clouds that looked like whipped soft serve ice-cream floating just above the ocean.. and then I noticed there was a fishing boat just burning towards the shore, and it got completely swallowed.. those cloud banks were on the move, in my direction.. and they washed over the point so quickly I was lost. if it weren't for the board walks out there I'd probably not have found my way out without going for my final tour down the cliffs. I hoping to go back there this fall. It is a long drive from Ontario.
I like the second but I think it would be better with a 24 mm shift lens (so trees are not bowed and closer in) and the falling cliff on the right was not leading the eyes out of the frame. Great video and good picture. Love your videos and your site selections.
Well, I think the second shot is more drmatic as for light/shadows/colours combination. I like it more than the first one. Oh, and those compositions trying to get the must from fog ... really brilliant all of them! 😀
Both shots are great, but I think I prefer the first one. Don’t know why as the colours in the 2nd one pop right at you, but I feel the fog of the 1st one was more emotive.
Love both shots and well worth the wait. I do find the sky distracting the eye from the main focus (light in the valley). Could you try a tighter crop, losing the sky and some of the foreground?
Brilliant video Gavin. Just amazing actors 😂. I prefer the first shot, partly because I was there for it, but also because the balance between the few wisps on the left side of the valley with the sun on the right half is great.
I loved this video, so so funny as we both watch Adam Gibbs and Tomas Heaton we just loved it. We go for photo number 2.. You said your considering this for a book, have you any books out?..😂😂😂 were both from Yorkshire..love it.. Take care you and Amanda . 😊😊
Best Book Ever Written? www.fototripper.com/chasing-awe-landscape-photography-book-gavin-hardcastle/
Easily
Yes, great for shit tickets when lost in the woods 😂
I vote the second. The light rays take it to the next level
The second shot is my favorite, the sun rays bathing parts of the photograph are amazing.
The fog was amazing 😂My wife voted for the second shot (I agree). The contrast against the sky snd the pop of colour sets it off.
The second shot for me,
only just pipped the master class of fog photography.
I can honestly say I have never seen better fog composition images. Truly masterful fog pictures. 🤣
I liked the second picture better. The orange color just popped a little more.
That second shot, WOW!
The re-shoot image looks better to me of the two. I also felt that this video was the funniest and most creative of the entire year so far. Well done.
Clearly you accept workshop clients based on their performance abilities -- hilarious supporting characters in this video. LOL
Well, I've certainly had some good laughs... your group was amazing! I like the second shot the best! Thanks for another great video.
The 2nd photo is far better than the first and is definitely book worthy.
Both images are good. If I were making the choice for a book, it would definitely be image #2
Second shot for me too. So amazing to go from nothing visible to that. Incredible.
The second shot is the one I like the most. It seems to have deeper colors. Patience can pay off. It seems that it did for you.
I like the crop of just the canyon without the sky. Beautiful!!
Definitely the retake looks amazing.....
5 ⭐️for Chris on RIPadvisor :-)
2nd shot’s a banger mate
Another hilarious film Gavin. Took a look at both photo's and for me the first I prefer. The illuminated mist from the tree line breaks the shot up along with the whole frame being a fair bit brighter with a better spread light.

Loved the jesus opening 😆! The 2nd shot of yours is my fave Gavin!
Both are great shots. But i prefer the second. Great video Gavin

Hallo Gavin. For me, the second shot was amazing and the lights was great
That's a no brainer!!! The second shot without a doubt!!
The first half of this video is so funny. Just high quality humor that makes me laugh out loud all the time. I prefer this level of class over toilet humor, that for some reason I don’t find really funny.
And that second valley image just strikes the cord of majesty! Awesome.

This is the best promo for a workshop I ever seen!!!
I have to say that what I lack as a photographer is overshadowed by what I lack as an actor.
You had me sold Mario!
Gavin, I'm picking the 1st shot. Both are great!
I liked the first shot the most, but wow, both are beautiful, and the scenery is amazing!!
I like the second shot better. I'll bet your workshops are fun!!!
For me is the first shot for your book, sell the second one to biscuit manufacture for their limited addition autumn biscuit tin collection top lid.
Love seeing you enjoying the beauty of Canada’s Ocean Playground. Especially “The Home of Our Hearts, Cape Breton” ❤️ 📷
P.S. I think Cape Clear photo from your next day visit :)). Count me in for the next Hardcastle Photobook Extravaganza 🙂
This is a comedy masterpiece from start to finish.
Brilliant video to start the new year! I thought it was the funniest I’ve seen. I’m voting for the second shot it was absolutely beautiful, stunning colors🤩🤩🤩
The second one is my favorite the horizon and clouds were amazing
yeah are a mess love it Gavin. I hope they had a wonderful time.
Brilliant, thank you all.
2nd shot, definitely most certainly. Great video, as always.
Great video, For me it's the first. I feel the fog adds to size of the valley.
The second image is beautiful
Second shot for the book.
In the first image, there is this cloud just right of centre, it creates a bright spot that is drawing my attention away
Definitely the second shot for me
You have horse shoes! If that fog did not lift, they would have hurled you off the cliff. What a wonderful shot.
Both photos are beautiful. I can't decide. Both deserve recognition. I enjoyed your video ♥️
I like the 2# shot the best, but as always you managed to pull the rabbit out of the hat, great work
I love the foreground of the first photograph, but then I love the valley from the second photography, sorry Gavin.
the Second picture seems most majestic, inspiring great Awe.
In conditions like these I would recommend putting the lens cap back on. It keeps the image minimalistic but adds so much more contrast to the scene. Makes a world of a difference.

great video looks like you all had fun, with the picture Version 2 for me
The second for the win! I have never seen a group shoot fog so effortlessly! I would have struggled.
With having spent three full summers up to thanksgiving there, I can say that the fog on the Cabot Trail is outstanding. I have driven the trail more than nine times in one direction and several the other way too. \every time you go out you see something different. Another great video, great group. Vote on the second picture
How hilarious is that. 😂 ❤😂 This video deserves an Academy Award for best comedy and best supporting actors. 😊 oh btw, photo no. 2 is my favourite.
I believe Chris and Grumpton AG would get on with a house on fire. I like the first image Gavin. Patience is a virtue. Great vlog as always
I prefer the first. Both are awesome. 👍
Second shot is awesome.
Both great shots. I prefer the second.
Jesus in the house ! Great job Shauna ,that wine foment was great .
Great vid! Loving the grey woollen hat & green 🍀
Version 2 is spectacular !
Hi Gavin, second one for sure, more rich tones
The second shot is my favourite. Brilliant episode. It would have been so funny if Shauna had painted Thomas Heaton on the wall...focus stacking fog lol lol lol...I don't know how you manage to keep your faces straight, though the bloopers show the truth lol...brilliant. Best wishes.

I like the colours and fog of the first shot better I think :)
The second shot , just. 👍👍👍
Magnificent…and funny as hell. Thanks for this!
The second shot is my fav
I came here to possibly learn something.....I stayed for the entertainment! Love this channel!
Loved both of them but maybe little less of the cliff in the foreground !
Using a polarizing filter with fog. Brilliant tip! 🤣👍
Love the 2nd image.
I like the second but I think it would be better with a 24 mm shift lens (so trees are not bowed and closer in) and the falling cliff on the right was not leading the eyes out of the frame. Great video and good picture. Love your videos and your site selections.
Best photography channel on you tube.
I watch all your videos and love them. Keep up the good work!!!
By far the best vid Gavin has released this week
Thank goodness there were outtakes
Focus stack fog - best tip ever!
Yes, it’s probably the funniest photography channel on all of you tube. I love the minimalistic early compositions, too.😂
I prefer the 1st shot. I like the way the cooler grey rocks in the foreground complement the burst of colour and the wispy mist.
#2 seems more dramatic. Fun video to watch. You Made use of the wait time!
Second image for me.. oranges seem to 'pop' a little more.. and there an impression of swirling colours into the valley below, well thats what I see!
I also like your 2nd shot....I would like to see the foreground maybe a bit cooler?
1st shot is epic 2nd shot is beyond epic! Shauna is a brilliant artist, wonder why she didn't paint a lamb next to Him?
I'm surprised to know one had a Holga Camera . They are perfect for landscape photos.!!!
Both images are beautiful, but I would definitely choose the second one.
Beautiful shots! 1 and 2
I love the reshot version best Gavin. The lighting is better for me but both great shots.
Definitely got to be the second shot, amazing colours.
Love both shots and well worth the wait. I do find the sky distracting the eye from the main focus (light in the valley). Could you try a tighter crop, losing the sky and some of the foreground?
I liked the third shot of the valley!
Some great tips on shooting fog, version 2 for me
Second shot was my favourite.
Have you ever shown the photos created by workshop participants?
Sometimes.
I preferred the first one, I felt the contrast added more atmosphere.
Brilliant video Gavin. Just amazing actors 😂. I prefer the first shot, partly because I was there for it, but also because the balance between the few wisps on the left side of the valley with the sun on the right half is great.
I think you stole the show Benku!
Thanks Gavin. Also I obviously don’t know my left from my right 😂. The wispy clouds were on the right of the valley and the sun was hitting the left.
I loved this video, so so funny as we both watch Adam Gibbs and Tomas Heaton we just loved it.
We go for photo number 2..
You said your considering this for a book, have you any books out?..😂😂😂 were both from Yorkshire..love it..
Take care you and Amanda . 😊😊
Fun silly people brightening my day! 😂
