    The more I hear the more I believe in their vision. And it’s good that Chris Wilson is also open to this expansion of PoE. Splitting the games makes more sense as we get all this information on the changes. Keeps us anticipating more news too

      Yeah, you can tell that they are aware of major problems that came after time, after all PoE started as clunky game made by passionate but inexperienced people and after time they got more experience but PoE is now a mess because of constant changes and experimentation over years and divided community, so they did only reasonable thing and started from scratch by making PoE 2 separate game, made by experienced people with passion. People who like PoE 1 will keep there game, Where PoE 2 will fix/change all thing that bordered second part of community

      @Ambander1 and don't forget, hollow palm (one with nothing). Having a dedicated ascendancy for this however, is going to be exciting (and hopefully heralds the return of melee greatness *speaking of earlier Poe days ofc).

    It is rare nowadays that the people who decide the release date of a game, actually love and play games. There's no doubt in my mind that they've drilled down on every detail and continue to scrutinize seemingly random things that can make 2 feel better to play. The animations are looking great. As long as you continue to care about your game to this degree, I will continue to spend thousands of hours playing it.

    I really love how they don't pull punches when talking about their previous game. Big companies like to pretend their previous games were perfect, which probably compromises their ability to make the next one actually better.

    I hate to compare this to Blizzard, but this animation is seriously good. I can't wait to try it. As someone who works in the industry, I can't find fault with the anims and it actually seems on par (or better) than Diablo 4. Ed and the animation team is seriously good.

      @Ambander1 Well, all of them in the last 16 years have been great. They meet all animation technical requirements, they follow animation principles to the point where it looks like Disney.
      If you're comparing a arpg animation then that's just retarded. They're meant to be played fast and lose the details. Jonathan Rogers from GGG even said this in a recent interview on how they're looking at their animations. So chances are when you get those nice Poe animations they won't look like that at end game.

      @Ambander1 Well you're conflating good animation with animation style. I agree, I hate pixar animation but in terms of animation it is very good. Lots of anticipation, follow through, weight, and timing. It's damn near perfect. So when World of Warcraft implements that, yes it is cringey but it is far from bad or atrocious. So that's just not really relevant.
      As far as what I said about POE2, yes you are correct. But the fewer frames you use the less animation data you have which would make it look choppy and mediocre because you can't implement some of the core principles of animation. So with that being said, by your own standards then POE2 would have worse animation like blizzard allegedly "had".
      And I hate to pull this, but you did read that I work in the industry right? I literally spent the last 8 months animating characters for games. I innately understand this because I put it into practice. If you do too, then great; but you should consider reskilling because you clearly don't get it.

    It's great to hear them speak about considering mechanics, but later discarding them for something that is more complex in depth because it's just better gameplay for the character. I won't drop any names of recent games that could've MASSIVELY benefitted from this kind of development... POE has been pioneering the genre from the start, it's great to see that they haven't deviated from that philosophy at all over the years. They're still nerds making a game that they hope other nerds will want to play.

      @Ambander1 If they do that, I hope transformations can interact with the style, since technically thosw "weapon sets" are just paws and shit, thus realistically unarmed.

    I love everything these guys are saying, I was a bit iffy about skills being restricted by weapon type, but using that to give each weapon more uniqueness I am down for.
    And now a wishlist:
    1.Let me wield a wand and a melee weapon dang it, we have had the technology since torchlight 2,
    2.Some crazy unique/keystone/acendency that turns the dodge into a teleport
    3.Make mirror arrow/blink arrow clone army good again, having a horde of myself all plinking away at dudes was so much fun. Very indulgent

    Really impressive how much work, skill and ingenuity goes into these details. I look very much forward to playing POE2. I really liked Ed Tate's explanations, seems like he is not used to public speaking, but put in a lot of effort. And I really enjoyed his insight on the intricacies of animating and it is clear that he has a lot of experience.

    There resource-generating skills I hated already in D3, and they did the same thing in D4. The PoE devs put it perfectly, "you use the fun skill once and then you have to go back to the not fun ones". There goes a lot of passion, but also a lot of understanding into PoE2, and that's just so great!

    I wonder if weapon switch speed will vary per item type, IE claws/daggers being faster to swap than 2-hand axes or spears

      They answer that question in the end during the Q&A at around 47:20. Yes, "smaller" weapons will be faster to swap to.

    Would be this a step forward into action combat like BDO? This would be an absolutly game changer. I love attack while in movement thats why I use autobombers and cyclone based builds (walking simulators) and this festure opens the game completly for my play style. 😮

    OH the dodge roll workign on movespeed sounds nice. SO if you get like 300% runspeed are you going to leaping tumble 15-20 feet?

    22:44 it's hard to not have rotations of sorts with how many synergies skills have. I suppose swapping the gems to tweak skills use may help a bit with that rotationy type of gameplay via automating some of the stuff.

    I like the changes you've made to avoid power creep devolving the game into stacking every offensive and defensive advantage to an insane level because new content difficulty is balanced around min-maxed builds, thus encouraging even more ludicrous min-maxing and exploits just to see what's in the game. Although part of that game genre's fun comes from theorycraft it shouldn't come to a level where it harms gameplay and build diversity.
    I like the game slowing down a bit and I hope it will keep having this feel of making deliberate choices even with "endgame" speed. I like playing with big charged/channelled attacks that requires to think about positioning and when to commit so I'm glad you're trying to make slow but hard hitting skills a viable thing. I hope there will be some dope new spells going along those lines along with classics like Flameblast and -Kamehameha- Divine Ire :D

    Hrm.... You know how a tire rim seems to slow down at some higher speeds because humans can only see so fast? You can make it so that hammer has certain break speeds like at 80% attack speed you see 2 hammers at once. And at 150% attack speed you see 3 hammers at once. And eventually if you get some crazy like 400% attack speed it is moving so fast you see 4 or 5 hammers at all times and have to use the sound to convey how many hits are landing.

      There is no "carrying capacity", like in Bethesda games with weight.
      The "carrying capacity" is what your inventory can hold and you can see the inventory in the 5+ gameplay demos they had during their livestream, still public on the this very UA-cam channel.
      I can see them changing how big some items are, but I doubt you will be able to pick up every item of the ground from every area.

      It's a matter of learning what to pick up and what to leave. And as I recall there will be less drops in PoE2.

    I think the ranger's jump animation is a bit disappointing, you don't feel the power in his legs, he just gets lifted up. Otherwise, amazing work guys, the game looks so f*cking promising, would love to work on the project with you !

    Nice video. There are some questions I haven't found the answer so far: I - would be easier to reset your passive skill / atlas tree? Would we be able to customize our characters (gender, hair....) despite the class we choose?

      They have changed respec for your characters respec, it now costs gold (Gold is non tradable). Very cheap at early levels up to 60 and more expensive at higher levels. Don't know about atlas tree. The game will have some sort of system like that but it might not be exactly the same. Don't think they are doing any character customization, they haven't mentioned it so it's safe to say that it will probably just be like poe 1 when it comes to characters, unless they add it later. It takes a lot of time etc to make so many of them. There are already 12 different characters

      Cyclone has not been revealed but there's no way it will not appear in POE2. Whirling Assault is exclusive to staves and exists as a movement option for clearing trash and phasing through enemies; it's basically current poe Whirling Blades but way smoother. In PoE2 all skills are bound to one weapon type (eg. mace skills and axe skills have no overlap) so Staff gets Whirling Assault just like maces get Leap Slam and spears get Engage.

    PLEASE add a auction house, not to just shit on it but the current trade system is so bad, 50% of the traders are price fixers, and there are a lot of scammers. And the longer a league goes on the less people will even respond to trade requests. A auction house solves all of these issues and many more

    22:47 skill rotation base can have depth, i like lost ark skill rotation base, it's has depth an actually you use you brain instead of mindlessly spamming basic and core skill... the guardian and and pvp feels rewarding because you skills as a player shine just like how you played dota2

      Gem system will be rebalanced and revamped for POE2. Socketing/linking will be different (supposed to be more convenient)

    I'm really worried about the way the system will pidgeonhole players into rotations.
    Seems the "use more skills" is the imperative they are working under, so the utility and effect has been split around, the only real question i have as of now is how much granular the split has been.
    To get a good level of effectiveness a setup will be put in the situation where mutiple preparing skills will be needed for a single effective one.
    Being it situational and more or less long as a chain, still I can compare it to a classic mmo rotation where i could skip a keystroke from time to time but why bother, just commit to muscle memory.
    Example shown is the power charges or the mentioned in other talks armor break: set condition 1, set condition 2, use skill, repeat.
    It is far from dull as cooldown usage, but it is quite contrived and moving the game from a relaxing state of predictability in your build to a constant need to worry about being consistent in executing a sequence or otherwise wasting potential.
    I guess we will see the results on open beta and at least won't need to waste 70$ and have poe1 still alive and kicking to fallback to.

    Will cooldowns be an option for those who want them via support gems?
    Last Epoch handles this well by giving skills different effects or increased damage as a tradeoff.

      There will be less of a knowledge burden at the start because new game and getting a minimally working character might be easier because no messing around with fusings and more skill synergy. Overall the answer is 'probably not maybe a little bit'.

    if a developer is seeing this, im concern about de contexture: height, muscular form, the biologicaly particularities that all of creatures has in real life, i want to see them on the enemies, i look a horde of minions coming at me and see the same height in everyone, same body components, want to see a dwarf zombie or fat or i dont know... without a leg? or arm, those variation gonna make a game look so real, but i dont know if its possible

    I feel that we will have to continuosly switch to a secondary set over and over just to adapt to different situations and boss fight mechanics. mmmm... idk

      Switching happens automatically when you use a skill that requires another weapon.

      It's PoE, so I'm sure we can make it happen as time goes on.
      Imagine a bunch of cast when stunned, cast when crit, cast when taken damage setups, because now we have 9x 6-links.
      Might be similar to PoE 1 and minions in which you start off with a bunch of buttons to press regularly, but as time goes on, you can automate things, like with Trigger wands.

    У меня в голове пока не укладывается концепция того, что игра буквально выглядит как диабло 4, но играться должна как супер динамичная пое, где ты пробегаешь карту за 1-2 минуты (имею ввиду какой-нибудь дорогой билд). Ну вот как будет выглядеть геймплей, когда ты играешь за супер дорогого RF, у которого аое на пол экрана, ты бегаешь с 200% мс и при этом у тебя есть перекаты?

      Скорее всего во 2 части не будет таких билдов, которые всю карту за минуту чистят. PoE 2 - отдельная игра будет, хоть и с тем же контентом, с огромной вероятностью динамику игры изменят

    To make skills impactfull we have to make our enemies interact with our weapons. For example when they shown an axe animation it fells like enemy is dont care that he is been hit with an axe. It looks just like a bubblehead toy. That is not impactfull animation.
    I always wanted small enemies to simply fly away from my character's hits during a Cyclone, fall, get up if they were still alive and come at me again. But at the same time, so that large characters or bosses could stop my Cyclone, and it would not look like I was just swinging a sword or an ax through the textures of monsters.
    That is the way to make skills feels impactfull.

    Ohhhhh... Now you can have Thorns be a literal character animation that grows bigger and bigger thorn like objects and have very "pushy" stuff get knocked back by thorns (because thorns hurt) unless the large pushy is metal, because the thorns wouldnt make metal stuff wince in pain. Can even work this thorn factor into spells and stuff make big stuff say "OUch!" and move away from the thorns.

      The new Spirit system they mentioned has heavy implications for summoners, eg. no limit to zombies but you can spend spirit either on an aura or on more zombies. I'm sure we'll get info eventually.

    I'm abit disappointed with the "Gems are fairly weapon locked' I enjoyed the flexibly, seems more like a shortcut for the dev, but at least the weapons will feel different outside of being stat sticks, I just never cared for the variety by limiting the player, I enjoy something something inbetween, where there are shared skills, but also exclusive forks
    making the game less about one skill (and a supporting cast) is a good change tho

      @@williamtess3660 Oh I know that, but daggers share stuff with Claws and sometimes Swords, I just don't want them to make EVERYTHING Exclusive, I feel like there should be bridges, like how right now Str has access to Staff/Mace/Axe, but Staff is Str/Int and Axe is Str/Dex, so there should be STR skill gems that are exclusive to Axe/Mace or Mace/Staff, and so on Axe/Sword, Sword/Bow (probably Spear now in PoE2) Bow and Crossbow (easy one here) Spear/Knife or Spear/Claw... etc etc etc

      i highly doubt that they will make EVERYTHING exclusive to ONE weapon type - daggers and claws probably still share stuff, as do hammers and staves

    As long as it doesn't go down D4's route of having too much text and too many mods or conditional mods, its good. I mean POE1 already has plenty, and if they will add that into POE2 with the ones that already exist in POE1, then its gonna be too much.

    does anyone play PoE for the visuals?
    i think PoE 1 is in a great spot visually, and just needs the ability to make player animations invisible (or at least see thru for party play)

      You may not, but some people see the visuals, then open the skill tree and uninstall the game.
