      With all the carriers that mimic a uniform shirt don't see why that's an issue these days

    • @garyfontenot2786
      @garyfontenot2786 5 років тому +2

      @@kills456 The uniform vest still doesn't hold anything on it, and still requires a duty belt to carry everything. There's a reason the military got way from the belt and pouches, and now have vests. Load dispersion and access is improved. However, some departments have this public relation issue where they don't want a military impression, so they don't have equipment vests. That is a problem when appearance overrides function. That's along the same lines as all scary, black, military guns are bad and entail murder. Just because a department has tac vests doesn't mean they carry frags and cruise around in tanks.

    Pro tip, if your drop leg holster is so low to where your weapon is pointing at your knee, then that is too low, and you will have one hell of a time in a foot pursuit with it swinging back and forth. A drop leg is just used to clear your body armor.

    I know internet experts are everywhere and claim to be this or that... i'm not claiming to be an expert, i just want to share my experience. primarily cause i'm bored... lol. I am a combat marksmanship trainer at a marksmanship training unit and a pistol team member in the Marine Corps. I understand the logic behind your drop leg idea in this video and have heard hundreds of Marines say the same thing before they trained with us. In fact, the holsters we had issued from blackhawk and safariland were all drop leg. However, after years of seeing them used, training with them, and doing operations with them, i am not a fan. 3 big reasons, when you go to draw your pistol, the majority of the time your hands will be somewhere around your chest or stomach so the distance is less to the hip holster. If you train a lot with each, the hip holster tends to be faster as there is less movement to and from the holster on both sides of the draw...UNLESS you are wearing cumbersome body armor. i'm talking about things with side plates or pouches which is why the holsters were created in the first place. i have no idea how your vest effects you so i dont know. 2nd big reason is the drop holster is a pain in the ass whenever you have to run, crawl, roll, or whatever crap being in a real hurry calls for. we did ground fighting and grappling with them on and that sucks but it really sucks no matter where the holster is, i just prefer it on the waist for that. in order for the holster to stay put with the weight of the loaded gun and light in it, the straps have to be tight. i just dont like having straps that tight on for an hour let alone the 18+ hours we often wear them. if the straps are looser, the thing flops around a lot. the way the drop legs connected to our belts were one or two nylon straps, so rolling around or running and jumping sometimes twisted the holster on your leg so the gun would be in front or behind your thigh. i dont know if they all connect that way. third reason is if someone goes for your gun, it's easier to drop your elbow on your waist to prevent them from grabbing or pin their hand if you're on the ground than if it's on your leg. a less justifiable reason is i can't use my right pocket on my pants with it and it sits weird when i sit down in a car. anyway. i'm not saying your idea is good or bad, just giving you my experience. hope it works out. i'd like to hear your thoughts on it after you use it for a while. i plan on becoming a cop when i get out. thanks for what you do man.

    Nice information. I don't know what your department policy is, but if you are permitted get some Glock 22 magazines for your spares. The 13 rounder is fine for the gun, but if you use it your in a gun fight and will want more ammo. Glock mags from the G22 or G35 will fit in the G23 or G27. My current duty gun is the G22 with the same TRL1 you are using. (with a G27 as a back up gun.) I'm using the safariland drop leg and I love it. It takes some of the weight off your back because of the way it grips your leg. Nouthing crazy but you can feel the differance. At a traffic stop the drop leg is nice becase you can just let your arm hang down naturally and your sidearm is right there if you need it. The Flash light on your vest for traffic stops is intresting, but I personally don't like to illumanite my chest to drivers. I don't look at their Drivers license at their car, becaues I don't like to take my eyes off the occupants of the car. Instead I flash light behind me to warn other drivers as I've alsmot been hit way to many times. Once back at the patrol car I'll examine everything and do what I need to safer in car. (way to many cops get hit at traffic stops) If the weather is very bad I've even stuck a little bit of reflective tape on the back of my duty belt to warn drivers. Anyway I think you'll love the drop leg hoster. (but you might not, I don't get in veyr many foor chases and people never seem to run from me, it's werid I can't explain it, but they don't.) let us know how the drop leg affects your ability to chase a suspect.

    Great video, small tip, you could get a small molle med pouch that you can place next to the 2 magazine holders on your vest and you can keep your gloves there, no disrespect but the gloves in the back pocket makes your butt look huge, also the medical pouch is deep enough that under the gloves you can keep a small med kit, a few bandages and a CAT TOURNIQUET!!! , you can also just place the tourniquet on your vest, I hope you never need it but if you're loosing blood...that can save your life.

    I think it is absolute Madness that police are required to wear pants and usually tight-fitting pants if you know anything about agility or performance you do not get even 80% in tight pants for me I can't even handle loose pants if I'm going to go full monty I need to be in shorts and I understand protecting your legs but there should be an option especially for warm temperature officers to wear shorts
    It's 2019 for god sakes I understand the shorts theory that was a long time ago in the fifties you also used to not be allowed to go into court wearing shorts..... times change and so should the force

    Is buying all your own gear the norm in the USA? Pretty much ever department where I’m from issues you your gear and you can’t really stray to much from what they issue you.

      Luckily our department allows you to wear mostly what you want aside from the actual uniform.

      Rojikku Reigns From one perspective I can see the plus side. But on the other hand I can imagine it can get kinda pricey too eh?

    Bro, what are your thoughts on Safe Life Defense’s Level IIIA+ Vest? Also have you heard of the Guardian Angel Red/Blue LED elite series flashlight? I think it might be better than the smaller flashlight on your shoulder strap. Keep up the great videos

    Your videos have been so helpful! I am going to be applying to my local police department’s sponsored opening, but I’m worried about my fitness (I have a lot LESS time than I thought)...did your academy do the official fitness testing (1.5 mike run, Sit ups, push ups, and Florida requires a swim test) toward the end of the academy, or did they do it toward the start to weed people out?

      Ellery Christensen My Department has the fitness test during the beginning I work for KSP and their are only a little over 700 troopers so we snuff out the weak links.

    Question do you carry extra magazines? I notice in two videos you do not have a double magazine holster. Thanks for the video always looking for new ways to set up my duty belt.

    You said you may have to get in a fight? Have you ever been in a fight before as an officer?

      I have been in fights during my career, yes. It's extremely likely to happen during your career. And it can happen when you least expect it.
