NEW Lotus Emira: The Last REAL Lotus? | 4K

- Опубліковано 6 чер 2022
- Rory reviews the new Lotus Emira, Lotus' last ever petrol sports car. Soon the company will transition to electric cars, but for this last hurrah the Emira promises better technology, more refinement without sacrificing the fun factor. Is it worthy of the Lotus DNA?

You and Carwow are the reasons I bought this car. No regrets! keep up the great work lads. Every video, every review makes us love you even more
Have you taken delivery? I’m thinking of ordering one. Most reviewers seem to really love it!
I got mine 3 months ago, replacing a 718 Boxster T. Absolutely love the car, 99% of the time (only had one minor wind shield wiper issue)
Pro: fabulous exterior design (I stopped counting the times people have been waving to me), interior quality, steering, engine sound, space (for a sports car), 6 speed manual, seats comfort
Contra: display brightness, acceleration (unfortunately not super quick, but still quick enough), touch sensitive buttons on the steering wheel
Really thinking off getting the six-speed V6, currently drive a lightly moded brz and I feel like this would be a nice step up
i want to see this beast with my own eyes. Im very very jealous. Do u still have it? What do u think about it after a year?
Rory - what a great review! I wish all reviewers had your presentation style and enthusiasm. Kudos to Oli & George for the amazing camerawork, especially the drone shots!
The oratory in this video is top class. The sound and video feels like a movie. Keep up the great work Rory and your team!
It is called Rory top notch quality reviews!! Welcome to passion and quality and professional work
He still uses the word Really! yay
We need Rory's oratories on rotaries.
Sorry, but am I the only one who does not care about that? See it all too often from the BBC etc, that it means nothing. Would rather have great content any day over flashy "production quality". Also reminds me of adverts that try to make something look dreamy, really they are just a con, trying to get us to part with cash. Lately, as I get older I prefer character, choice, and function over form. Why I watch more YT than normal TV. Glad to say that each YT review has its own character. This one is fine but let's not overhype the book cover. Let's praise them for the book content or they may lose touch? Last thing we want is for them to become another BBC, who lack creativity these days. /rant over!
@@andrewnorris5415 What absolute pedantic nonsense. Im annoyed I gave you the time and read that bile.
Is just amazing how every review feel different and not repetitive, entertaining and informative at the same time and I love the open minded approach!
It means this car is a mixed bag
It's the Rory, factor
I watched the Carwow review of this 😍 vehicle earlier today, and I watch Matt for the sheer goofiness and stats (and THE DRAG RACES!), but Rory and the crew are so good at production value. Definitely something cinematic about your reviews. I love it!
I just watched Harry's review too, what a great car. Well done, on giving us a taste of what it can do on track. Awesome video. Great style, Rory.
After watching Rory, there's no other car reviewer to watch...his just so good!!!
@george dodea no thanks, don’t know what it is but something about him means I just can’t watch his videos.
@george dodea silly faces and girly giggles? No ta.
@george dodea spends more time sticking sticks up exhausts ffs
I just watched Car wow review on the same car, good God Rory brought a new life and energy to this review in a way that makes the driving experience so real to make me order a Lotus Emira. Fantastic review for a brilliant Lotus.
Another brilliant Lotus.
I love the two, I think they complete each other with Matt’s humor and Rory’s amazing reviews
I agree. I’m not enjoying Mat’s reviews last couple of years ever since his videos became more long form.
very true
This is really great work, Rory & team. Perfect duration, amazing filming and great energy presenting throughout. Really awesome!
This is what top gear used to be! Love watching Rory give a down to earth review with real emotion
Top gear let go of a great presenter in Rory
@@rudzyeli 100% he was the most relatable, but instead they kept the others ah well. Wishing Rory all the best 👍🏽
It’s like watching a Top Gear review on UA-cam, amazing work AutoTrader!
11:35 “In a few years when that last tank of liquid fuel has been burnt”
😂 come back in a few years a see how well that statement holds up 🤣
Exactly 👍🏼 ICE isn’t going anywhere 😊
This is as much a new lotus as the new Z is new. Not that these redesigns are bad, I like them both.
Great Video.. Enjoying your Reviews a lot.. Thanks for the hard work Team and Rory.
This was like the discount version of that iconic "An Ending" clip from the old TG, where Clarkson poetically described the end of an era with the Vantage V12!
I've been waiting a year and a half to see this in action. Thanks for brining the story along with the track test!
Great review, nice to see you putting the skills on display. I think you may be right about Lotus saving the best for last. Hope you enjoyed your time with that beauty.
Nearly cried at the end of that review 😂 Well done Rory.
I have one on order - at 52 I'm expecting to be dead before we run out of fuel 🤷♂- and after my test drive of the Emira I'm certainly not excited for an electric future.
In fact, I'm not sure electric 'is' the future. Fingers crossed 🙏🏼
Cellulosic alcohol is the future. Retune cars to run on alcohol that can be sustainability made from algae and keep running your internal combustion engine at wide open throttle. 🤙😍 It may be expensive to modify current cars, but certainly less expensive that buying an entirely new one. Less damaging to the environment too.
Have you taken delivery? I went to see a GT500 yesterday but to be honest this seems more the driver’s car. Very curious to see how the Emira fairs in real world conditions.
PHENOMENAL CINEMATOGRAPHY!!!!! Gave me chills…. Greetings from the states! Love this channel…..
A video that’s honest open and bloody brilliant in cinematography. Thank you Rory. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
The Emira looks set to become a real modern classic - a beautiful new design and improved functionality, whilst holding true to the Lotus brand name and ethos.
Btw - any news on the Evija...? I understand the Emira is the company's big news right now, but things seem rather quiet on the Evija...
Development takes years on the Hypercars, so give the Evija some time.
The Merc project one is releasing 4 years after shown, while the Aston Martin/Red Bull Valkyrie is undergoing the last stages of development even now.
The Emira weighs the same as the 6 cylinder Cayman. What about that is true to the Lotus ethos?
And how long before they come out with variants with modified clamshells? Clamshells that you'll never be able to get if you actually own one and get into an accident?
Reading many of these comments, I can't believe what a bunch of mindless fawning fanboys they are. I wonder if they aren't mostly bots.
@@bunsw2070 It weighs less than the Evora. And the Esprit. I wouldn’t say it’s a heavy car. And weight isn’t everything that defines what a Lotus is. From what I’m seeing, it sure does seem to drive like a Lotus.
@@bunsenn5064 Then go buy one and get back to me in 5 years. I've been driving a Lotus everyday since 2009. I know what I'm talking about. But, maybe you like wasting money and having problems.
Simply amazing narrating! I would love to learn from Mr. Rory in person one day. Great driving as always.
Great video as usual, and a very touching one, it's kind of the life metaphor, enjoy it now before it's too late.
Cheers from Brazil.
Thank you very much!
We are making a huge mistake switching so early to electric, before tech is ready, before the infrastructure is ready - we will rue the day we ditched our characterful combustion friend
Truly a masterpiece, the type of car that keeps you smiling/ what’s not to love- I hear everyone gushing about your brilliance Rory and to be truthful I am a fan. Yes you have embraced the EV but my god enjoy this car for what it is one of the best value cars of this ilk
Got clued to it all 12mins, big up to the entire crew such an amazing work.
Superb Review....
Excellent all the way through...
👍👍👏👏
Mr Rory is pure class....just like the Lotus Emira.
Oli, amazing editing!!
9:56 right on. phenomenal job yourself.
10:34 always an absolute blast to watch.
11:17 love this car.
You are mastering your trade. Always entertaining, always informative.
Nah. He's a master presenter already. Been so for a while.
Fun review!! Thanks..:)
Well done review! Can't wait to see one in person!
Absolutely love this car, dream to own a lotus someday as a weekend car. Though... This Special OEM needs to stick around long enough for me to get one!
OEM? Acronym simpleton :)
Never thought I'd say it but you're infectious commentary has put this car above one I've wanted for years and was gonna be my next car.........the Porsche Cayman 718. I think I'm falling in love with my next car, what are machine!! Awesome review and cinematography absolutely on point 🙌
His Videos are infectious, therefore don’t give up on the Cayman.
Watch his Video about the GTS 4.0 from two years ago ;)
@@derbender9264 Roger that..........Will give it a watch! :) The Porsche definitely takes some beating 💪
Nah 718 GTS definitely still better
Lotus definitely turning heads will be a hard choice for sure 👍
I have a GTS 4.0… it is very good (and noisy). But this is also a great car.
Excellent vid, the feeling, the execution, the car, all top notch.
That boring bloke from autocar said the shift was crap, the pedals weren’t right and the brake feel was poor 😂
Great review, as always. Great speech all the time❤️😊👍
Honestly can’t look at many other reviews without Rory’s take on it.
So happy I found this channel, Rory you are fantastic
Great video mate 👌
You're always killing it, Rory. You're the best, man.
Love the car and this video, you and your team are very good, great quality!
Top gear should invite you to be with Chris Harris to save TG. This is top class information you givingfrom the car. Congratulations and cheers from Portugal
Fabulous car. The wells won't run dry. Work is ongoing to develop algae that produces biodiesel and synthetic fuels are being developed that will harvest hydrocarbons from the air. Hydrogen infrastructure will mature. The internal combustion engine will be with us for many years to come.
Indeed. Journalists need to get behind these developments and make the case to keep petrol alive. We all recognize that electric vehicles are a major solution in towns and cities. Simply NO reason to sanction killing petrol vehicles. Crazy how we acquiesce to uninformed politicians!
Just an opinion of mine, but i would guess hydrogen combustion engines (similar to what Toyota gave to their 24hr Corolla) would be more sustainable than the synthetic fuels Porsche is developing.
@@RyuzoSan19 I would agree. If engineers can crack nuclear fusion there will be plenty of cheap electricity available to produce hydrogen. Lord Bamford of JCB would agree and in developing countries the pure water that is the product of combustion can be collected for human consumption. Torness power station in Scotland shut its hydrogen electrolysis plant for lack of customers.
Pff, hydrogen infrastructure will not mature (for passenger vehicle use). There is no demand for it to.
@@beanapprentice1687 Toyota might have something to say about that.
As always, great production. It looks like Lotus has really stepped up the game for this one.
Great review!
Rory, you're one of the best out there, eat your heart out so called Top Gear!!👊👍
It's "Top so-called Gear"
Great review! And I enjoyed Rory’s oratory skills but also for keeping these videos short. 15 minutes is most of a car review unlike CarWOW videos which have become long form but the content doesn’t resonate as much as Harry’s videos does because they are not educative.
Next time i need popcorn with that... amazing review and cinematic aura 💗that style.
I've been waiting for this review so much
Woooooooooooooooow. . . .very spot on narrative and playful vid enjoying all the way from South africa
I literally saw one of these in the flesh heading over the hill from Palmerston Nth to the Wairarapa NZ. Looked fantastic in white.
Great review Rory!
This is heavier than the last Evora, but the first Evora started at a similar weight and then with each revision, the weight came down. The final revision had things like a litium ion battery. While the weight came down, the price went up. Maybe they will do the same with this, but how long will it be in production for, 5 years maybe?
Lotus is going fully EV by 2030, so expect the Emira to stay till then.
@@MrAceekidd it will probably continue being available beyond 2030, outside of the imbecile EU
Funny the internet says the Evora GT (in lightest weight) is 3,104lbs and the Emira is said to weigh 3,097...
This was so beautiful to watch. The presentation style is top notch. Keep it up man.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Smashing it out again Rory, properly enjoyed this.... And yes I feel your pain, it's hard enough these days trying to find a "pure" car!!! (Manual + petrol + sporty)
I guess it's time to buy a field and grow my own fuels lol 👍👍😂🤣🤣🎊🎉🥳
Superb as always, Sir.
You really told the story of how we are moving through time in technology - away from something we've all known and taken for granted. ICE's swansong indeed.
*The thumbnail on this was gold great idea* 🔥
How long would you expect the Toyota Camry engine to last with super charging or the AMG with over 2 bar of boost? Thanks
Fantastic review by Rory, great job!!...Now, if I only had the money to buy this Lotus beauty 😪
Awesome review 😄👍
His videos are so so much better then car wow. I'm so surprised he doesn't get more views
Absolute class! What a video ❤️👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great review, Rory.
@2:25 "If it ain't broke don't fix it" Amen Rory!!
Amazing review 👏 👌
Awesome review
Great car and review!
Great review, I want one!
Great review! What colour car is this? It looks different to Seneca Blue - looks amazing!
After one year... I promise y'all going to see this car wherever you go..
What a stunning car 🔥🔥🔥
Not in the US. Corvettes/Dodges still own US streets. In fact in my 12 years in the US im 23 btw I’ve seen 2 LOTUS Elise. 😂
Great review! I think I'm right in saying though that internal combustion engined cars can still run even when oil runs out completely as they can run on synthetic fuels???
They will still run thanks to synthetic fuels, but the fuel will cost way more than fossil fuel.
Fantastic video.
That was brilliant. ‘Lotus is back’ followed by a description that is everything Colin Chapman was against.
I think you covered it all.
You regurgitated the marketing message.
You started with the acknowledgment followed by the denial, while developing your ego and deceiving the consumer with visuals, and adding in a verbal shoulder shrug to indicate ‘I’ve said something that could be interpreted as broadly as possible without saying anything’.
Well done.
Judging by the comments below, you were successful.
‘Chefs kiss’.
Well ok then! Let's talk about it... the Emira is not as light as Mr Chapman would have liked, but that's irrelevant in this day and age. Nobody buys lightweight Lotuses. Very few people even buy sports cars. That's the reason they pivoted. From a personal perspective I'd never buy an Evora, Exige or Elise. But I would buy this because it's fast, fun and, easy enough to live with day to day and very pretty. No marketing nonsense. No ego. Just my opinions on the car. Glad you think it was brilliant ;) -Rory
@@AutoTraderTV
If the historical position of Lotus is irrelevant, why publish a claim stating ‘in your opinion they are back’?
None of what you just said supports the claim that Lotus ‘is back’, it supports the claim that they have moved from their historical ideological position to the one that meets the consumers wants.
One position is the creators view, the other is a populist/business view.
That car has no ties to the past. You stated it yourself. The past is irrelevant, apparently!
Despite the fact that every producer releases a striped down, minimal option, version of an existing performance model and charges a premium for it.
And that version is often the version that goes straight to auction houses or a climate controlled collection.
So maybe not that irrelevant after all.
Yes. I know the business model requires it. But we aren’t talking about business models we are talking about your narrative.
@@bourbonyoung6237 They've always made lightweight cars. They never took a break from that. So there's nothing to come back to from that perspective. I meant 'back' in terms of making a car that interests people.. Apologies if that wasn't clear. I'd argue their previous cars weren't that popular (the sales data bears this out), but with the Emira they have a product that puts them back in the shop window. So in that sense... they might be back... to relevance. Also, the past is 'irrelevant' in many ways because the wider world (like it or not) isn't that interested in 1000kg sports cars that show your pants every time you get into it. As for car companies making lightweight specials and collectors gobbling them up... if lotus tried that my guess is that nobody would bat an eyelid.
Well the total off British car’s are gone !due to the terrible way off staying in the past ! Look at Rolls,Bentley, jaguar MG ! If not fore abroad intrest and finance they wood be gone fore ever ! Sooo ? The way it went preserved the beatyfull brands !
? NO Ties to the past 😂 it wood be standing stil 50% of the time ! Wake up
Rory, you got me thinking for sure on this lotus
Great piece.. this is definitely my next Car.. no doubt about it. Just some cash to find.
I'm going to put my last gasoline can into a Mazda MX-5 2.0L Soft-top. Aiming for it to be the last petrol car I'll ever own. It's on order, but probably won't arrive until after summer sadly... I do like the Emira though, it's beautiful, sounds amazing and probably drives quite amazing as well. But it's just way too expensive in Sweden... :( Thanks anyway Rory, always a blast watching your videos!
Nice car to get to work at the hair salon in 👍
I wouldn’t agree with “rb”. Undoubtedly they haven’t driven one.
My wife has one and it’s just a great fun car and so reliable and well put together. So I’m bald and have no need of a hairdresser, so I love stealing her car and giving it a thrash. My choice is a GLA45 the 381hp version. So it will be more powerful than the similarly equipped Lotus they advertise here. I’ll keep with our batch of entertainment and won’t touch a Tesla (does it remind you of a Mondeo with better instrumentation?).
So enjoy it when you get it and ignore those old school witticisms that are now over 30 years old…
@@PhilbyFavourites don't think you helped by saying your wife has one 🤣
The charging infrastructure and the electricity grid is many many years away from supporting a future where even just 50% of the cars on the road are electric. And in Canada, they just arbitrarily doubled the price of kWh; electricity generated by burning coal. So, don't be surprise that our future ends up being no different than our present ... except with less soulful cars. My next second car might be electric, but I'm keeping my C8 V8 and enjoy reving the engine as I pass the Tesla dealership.
look up a car brand called NIO, they have created some incredible battery swap technology
Alright grandad
@@neilmick6778 I’m 21
@@neilmick6778 Well, when I drive past my neighbourhood in my C8, all the kids run over during recess and ask me to rev my engine. Yesterday someone at the gas station thought it was a Ferrari. Today at the drive-thru a bunch of employees came to the payment window to check out the car. My GF laughed when the customers at the Tesla dealership pointed at my C8 when I drove by. I guess this grandad runs with the cool crowd.
Another excellent episode.😊
Rory is an absolute Beast via what he does.. 🔥
Toyota V6 + Manual Box all day everyday!!! Super Easy Choice!!!
Toyota's Reliability + Manual Box's Fun, what could go wrong?
It's a Toyota engine? That means we can squeeze close to 200hp more out a stock block, fuck yeah.
Rory my first love in the automotive sector. Love from Nigeria 🇳🇬
Always watch Rory’s review 1st when these new cars are released
I completely agree with you and if I had the means that’s the car of choice for that last drive before the world goes electric because it’s simply brilliant
I love ur show so so much when i watch ur show it make me fill i am in the future and u let me know more about cas and motors love u bro and ur show
vidéo géniale. . . . , je m'abonne !!
bravo. Your story telling ability while reviewing cars is second to none
You are the best, love the car!
I'll have a road spec one in Vanta Black thanks.
What a pretty car. 😍. Wish I could afford one. I'm still driving a 1995 diesel golf.
A very different vibe from what EVO experienced, interesting.
Hopefully they will develop E-fuels so the people who grew up dreaming about the feeling and sound of ICE can still enjoy them.
Was wondering when you would get to this machine...💯🔥
On my wifes first day at Lotus, she had the job of assembling the centre console on that very car. Makes her proud to see it (also cringe about the leather on the gear shift she did)
@2:30 this is the first review where I hear the Emira revs to 7k RPM. I'm guessing that's wishful thinking from Rory? Lotus and every other review says 6,800... some confirmation would be nice. Thanks!
6800 in Sport mode
Where do I sign ?
What a stunningly beautiful car.
Love the intro
Never been a fan of lotus but the Emira is just a great car in every category. Looks great, sounds good, preforms well, and the interior is very nice. Well done
This is the one I'd get, with the manual. Not the 4 cylinder AMG motor.
@@alunesh12345 smh bruh it aint a sin to like a 4 banger, amg produces arguably one of the best
@@alunesh12345 Your belief in an imaginary person in the sky is destroying this world. Religious people are some of the most intolerant, hateful people out there.
I’d spec mine with the AMG engine.
What would it take to reverse the detune and realise the performance gains from a lighter, more torque rich engine, that propels a family hatchback to 60 in just over 3 seconds?
Not much at all.
So, lighter, faster and moderately cheaper to run, and with greater tuning potential (if you like that sort of thing).
4pot for the win, in my opinion.
why didn't lotus use the Honda k or Toyota zz for the 4 cylinder?
