all plug-in-hybrid cars make sure that the hybrid battery never runs out completely by charging it with the internal combustion engine (or with the regenerative braking where available (not for Artura)). Because the hybrid battery always has some energy in it, the car can *always* deliver its full power using the electric boost. all plug-in-hybrid cars are quicker because of the electric bits because the electric torque is instant and the 2 power units work at the same time.
Any time you're not using 100% engine power, which is virtually any time you're not in a drag or at the track, the car has spare power available to keep the battery charged. You'll only potentially kill it if you run it in e-mode or hot lap mode.
That seat belt fault is actually a big issue, because it means in an accident BOTH airbags will go off as the car is thinking second passenger is on board. The lack of Regen Braking has got me scratching my head on this. Stock BMW's have regen braking let alone hybrids, so what is going on here ? The reason I am concerned is the Battery is pretty small for a plug in hybrid, and with no regen on braking its going to run out very quickly. My understanding is that the latest regen braking systems can recover 70% of the energy, which adds to thousands of extra Km per year.... Just saying.... The warranty sounds good.
I guess they wanted better brake feel/ability rather than when it gets corrupted by regen? Though I'd argue with the other choices being more daily driver oriented I would also have included regen braking.

I'm surprised that it doesn't have regenerative braking, especially given McLaren's technical prowess.
Great review of a seemingly great car Rory. I love that you were able to put the kettle on the exhaust to make your tea. Definitely got that pinky up there. 😆
Motivational very motivational I was looking for an electronic sports car being that in 30 years most cars will be electric. Save gas, fast, and look flashy I love everything about it. And this video is my top motivational video I watch this almost everyday now can’t wait I want one so bad.
Words can not explain the power of this car!!
Really well executed, love love
This is a very beautiful car but I couldn't help but notice the fly you killed at 8:11 lool
it's 680 hp only if the battery is full? and the battery you need to plug it in?
The seat belt alarm was the ghost of top gear sitting next to Rory trying to persuade him to return.
Well done Rory, as usual. Interesting car!
Good video as always but I really feel that this mclaren model won't sell as much. I think the competitor rivals especially the ferrari will sell more.
