Great video! I am so glad I found it. My girlfriend whose family is from Shanghai gave me four of the plants! She grew them from seeds and had no idea what to do with them. Well, I found out the hard way, they took over a corner of my garden. I now have them trellised with some complaining from the twisted vines. I have one huge one growing with many little ones following. I guess I will try to put them up to see if that helps with the shelf life issue. Thanks again.

I'm glad you're giving them a go! Through that whole season I was hit and miss on the ripeness but when you do get one right on its totally worth it!

Cool to be able to eat the skin of a melon.
    They look great my friend.
I had never hear about it before. Nice addition, thanks for sharing. 👍

Thanks man! You show all sorts of new things so I'm glad I could return the favor. As you know, nature is the oddest, most diverse thing out there. Even in the "tame" garden.

That’s great that you can eat the rind and I like the small size. I can never eat though a whole melon in one sitting 😄 🍉 Cool to learn about a new variety thanks 😃

Thanks! Its an odd ball for sure. It didn't hinder things in the patch so that's cool. I may experiment with other small melons on the trellis now.

It's a cool melon worth trying for home use but be warned it has a short shelf life! Hope the video helped!

Nice melon, there. I have never been able to grow a melon. I tried one year, but the plants only got male flowers.
I like that you also can eat the skin, like a pear or an apple.
    Thanks for sharing.

They definitely like the heat. I'm glad you liked it, I know you could come up with a creative way to use the fruit if you had them. I was a fun project for sure. Hope all is well for you and can't wait to hear from the channel again soon! How long before the doctor lets you back in the garden?

With any melon you get mostly Male flowers in the early stages of flowering females come later just be patient. Searching for Male vs female flowers video would be a good idea

LOL trying to look the part! Same here, trying to cut back on the computer time but really enjoyed that video. Thats what growing is about, seeing nature in action! This is a cool melon for sure, and I like giving them away because no one I know had seen one until then.

Dude those actually look good! I have never heard of em until now watching your video, have you ever had starfruit? I just tried it recently(I like to try exotic fruits sometimes) and man it was delicious, tried jackfruit last summer and it was funky! But yea, interesting man...the garden looks amazing btw. Hope you had a great weekend man, dig the end picture of the shrooms also!

I been to the farmers market you name it, maybe they are just hard to get/find I dont know. Harps sometimes has the jack fruits. Always dig a cool mushroom video/pic brother! Have a great week man

Do not save these seeds as they've most likely cross pollinated with your cucumbers. I grew these melons in 2022 and found them bland but the neighbor's chickens and my worm colonies loved them.

Definitely something I would try, I really like the size of it, personal size, would be great to pack in a lunch. I imagine that it is very nutritious, especially since the rind is edible.

I bet so on the nutrition. You would love these things, the perfect cool down for the heat. You could make a yogurt bowl and eat bowl and all!

Nice. I’m planning to grow my first batch of melons and I have a lot of composted hay and manure as well as potting soil that I mixed together and hope to be eating melon in a few months from now. Any tips?

They seemed easy to grow but I would say keep them off the ground if possible, everything seems to want to nibble on them. Also experiment with different harvest times, find a stage you like best. I had some nice ones and some not.

Growing this one for the 2021 season! I just need to taste it for myself !! What’s the key to determining ripeness?
Also are you planning any other personal sized melons this season?

    • @paxtianodirtfrog8947
      @paxtianodirtfrog8947  3 роки тому +2

They really are good and unique. I never mastered the ripeness thing but I got closer. I went part by color, when the white and yellow became more clear and the green tent began to fade. Smell helped but my sense of smell is weak(but when you can start smelling the sweet melon smell your ready). My biggest clue was to give them a little squeeze without bruising them. They'll go from firm to a little flex and not long after it gets a little give in it. I know these are all vague but you'll have to keep experimenting with it. When you do get one at peak ripeness you'll know what to look for. Word to the wise when you do get a ripe one eat it! They have almost no shelf life and peak ripeness is a small window. I won't be doing any melons this year but I was tempted. Thanks for watching!
