I know this is an old video but just to add as to how to serve these without adding to jam or pie. I half them just like you did and remove the seed then cook them in the microwave add a scoop of vanilla ice cream into the half once a little cooled and throw berries around it and top with a dollop of whipped cream...Voila! Tasty and great dessert that looks good too. LOL
I am making jam out of mine with pears this week. Have not had it yet, but we can't wait to try. Just doing a pint or two and then may try mixed with some peaches as well. I hear they take on the taste of other fruits and are great for adding to like apple pie and such. We also want to try some in halves baked with some cinnamon and sugar like we do pears. Anyways, enjoyed your video. I didn't know what these were until a couple of weeks ago. I found them growing wild all over the property we moved to. I had been feeding them to my chickens and quail who LOVE them.
LOL I was salivating when you started removing the seeds and thinking "hurry up!" Don't hurry up, enjoy it and make us jealous. :)) Don't be sorry for telling us exactly what you think about it. Fa'get'about'it.
That looks just like those "Moon Melon or Moon Pie Melons" seeds I bought from the Rare Seeds seed company. I did not like those little melons at all. I did not think they were all that sweet or tasty. I had read that the old people use to cook them into a pie like an apple pie adding sugar, etc. I did not try that but I thought they kinda tasted like a cross between a canteloupe & a mushy apple. Anyhow, I just let the rest of them rot on the vine.
Mine had an extremely mild cantaloupe taste, no apple taste at all. Not very sweet, but still pleasant. Thought maybe I needed to add more lime to the soil. I'll be trying them again next year to find out if adding extra lime makes a difference.
Save those seeds Susan, lol. Looks good, never had one of those before, take care and God Bless!

You're good at making stuff grow. Never seen one of those. Thanks!

Very cool I have never heard of them thanks for sharing hun
I just started growing this. Thanks for some info.
I've never seen a peach vine thingy before. It would be perfect for me. I can't eat a whole cantaloupe even though I love them...

Honestly I think if I'd put a bit of lime in the soil it would have sweetened it up. I will be getting it in there and try again.
How do I know when they're ready to be picked?
Awesome update thank you for sharing have a blessed day

I do save seeds. This tiny melon had 183 in it, yeah I counted them, lol
good you save them they look great
cool to see how yellow it got ,well i am glad it was not bad though
Most people say they taste very mild, barely sweet, like a cantaloupe with no flavor.
She sound so disappointed 😂😂
I was disappointed in the flavor, they were not very sweet and had such a mild taste that it was more of a hint than a real flavor.
