I have used this glass in this Video: RIEDEL Veritas Champagne
I have tasted the following wines in this Video:
Krug Grande Cuvée 169ème Édition
2008 Krug Vintage
Krug Rosé 25ème Édition
For me personally, Krug has always been one of the most desirable Champagnes and they are difficult to get as they are not cheap. The three wines that I am going to taste today cost a whopping 1,400 US$ combined - but to many wine lovers, they are worth the price.
So what is behind the house of Krug and why are people all around the world in love with those wines? Krug was established in 1843 in Reims the Capital of Champagne - many of the other famous Champagne houses are older than that. Found by Johann-Joseph Krug (Born in 1800): A German immigrant from Mainz who Left Germany in 1824 and learned the trade at Champagne house Jacquesson. He called himself Jean-Joseph after immigrating to France and he and the six generations of Krugs propelled the House to the top.
Krug, like many of the bigger Houses, was bought by LVMH (Moet Hennesey Louis-Vuitton) in 1999 but Olivier Krug is still the Director of the House. As one of few Champagne houses Krugs Cellar Master is a woman Julie Cavil. She took over from long-time cellar master Eric Lebel in 2020. She worked at Krug for 14 years before taking over so she knows about the elaborate winemaking process at the winery.
1400USD of Champagne with 10USD take-out sushi. Here is a man with the right priorities😊
😁
Yes!! I’ve been waiting on a Krug video. One of my favorites
On the comment of “…should be drinking these together…”, I’d encourage you to consider hosting a tasting for your subscribers at the hotel you work with, when things open up a bit more. You could probably get a pretty international group of eager learners and wine nerds that would be happy to invest in that kind of experience.
Great video as usual.
Indeed!
I tried Krug Grand Cuvee a few years ago at a Champagne tasting and instantly fell in love with it - tasted like someone baked an apple pie into my glass. The rosé sounds very interesting!
The best white wine I have ever tasted was a Krug 1928. No more bubbles and with a straw colour - the taste was absolute heaven.
Wow!
Great video.. I picked the grapes for the 1989 vendange (and then did 24-hour shifts dans le pressoir). It was the hardest and best job of my life. Mr. Henri was my hero, such a modest man. I still have the scars on my left hand from les secateurs. Vive Équipe Nombres Huit!. I've drunk Krug in the memory of those weeks at every special moment in my life since.
I get asked what wine I’d want if I could only drink one (a pity for sure) for the rest of my life. Champagne. That Rose sounded amazing.
I enjoyed watching this at 5:30 am while I made breakfast for my family. I’m an eye doctor in Canada and am studying level 1 for the Canadian Association of Professional Sommeliers in my “Spare,” time. Your videos are very thoughtful and appreciated.
Thank you!
Krug!.... As good as it gets
Have always loved the Krug Grand Cuvée, first tasted it in a wine tasting group College in the early 70’s. What is crazy is that I could afford it then as a College student and starting Winemaker, was my go to celebration Champagne, but have had it rarely this century.
I was doing MW tasting class in Tokyo today, 24 wines.... came home and watched this but made me thirsty! Using the same glasses! Always great content...cheers!
Tokyo and Hong Kong and Shanghai. All wine capitals of the world.
Nice! Love champagne & sushi! You just open three bottles of Krug!! I'm coming over!
One of my favorite well-known houses in addition to Bollinger... Nice topic for geeks. I wonder when they will start NFTs too!! hahah
Such a great trio of wines and I love the comment about glass selection for Great Champagnes like these. Xx from Australia

Congrats on 30k! I can't believe you're not closer to 300k with the quality of the content.
2 questions, I notice when you give your ratings you also always refer to Robert Parker's ratings as well. Do you make your ratings before looking at his or if there a chance you're influenced by other critics? Would love to see a blind ratings comparison.
Also any thoughts on opus one? Being from the states I get asked all the time if it's worth it. I've visited the winery, but think there are so many other options at a better value
I try not to be influenced by other critics... I would like to do a deep dive into Opus !
Agree on the Opus One comment
Fantastic quality content as always Konstantin, love your tastings! Straight to the conclution with some flavor notes, not too "analytical" (which always seems like a waste to me, I'm not trying to study for a WSET or something, I just want some simple notes and summary!) And you nail the balance. Can't wait for more videos, and I've love some more blind tastings with scores (typically a topic/region/grape etc) Would have loved to see a line up of entry level, medium level and high end level of champagnes tasted blind together, that way we can get an understanding fo quality totally seperated from reputation. But love these videos too where you go into a high end producer and taste it knowlingy too. Congrats on 30k, soon 100k! Cheers brother!
Thanks!
Really great idea to talk about the food pairing, love this! Thank you.
You're the best. So deeply informative. Your pairings were superbly thought out. Screw your critics, not literally of course.
4:03 - 🤣 That face.
Congratulations on 30k! Really pleased you let us celebrate with your superb tasting. Well done.
Excellent content. The 1979 Clos de Mesnil was stupendous many years ago. In my top 5. I generally like Bollinger, Paul Bara and Gaston Chiquet a bit more, but never turn down a glass of Krug. Such a great product.
Hmmm remind me not to ask you to bring the champagne to the party 😂
“I love my job”. You cracked me up with that. I’m pleased for you, but secretly jealous. I like your idea that one day “we” (your audience) might somehow be able to enjoy a tasting session with you. I’ve a few bottles of the 169th cellared, and based on your comments am looking forward to enjoying over the next decade or three. Pairing with sushi seems ideal. Thanks for another great episode! 👍
Mwa, thousands of Americans can afford an 800 dollar bottle each and every day. Thanks to the other Americans who work their BEEP off, for half the money they deserve. You all LOVE capitalism, huh? Dream on!
@@voornaam3191having a stroke there, fella?
Bought the Krug Grande Cuveé 172 Edition yesterday. It’s so special
Love your content and knowledge, Konstantin! Keep up the excellent work!
You had a great day Konstantin! Thanks for all your videos and congrats for the 30K!
Thank you too!
Dear Konstantin, I am becoming a big fan of the channel, and I really like the fact you introduce us to these magnificent wines that most of us cannot responsibly afford, and we get to listen and watch an expert talk intelligently about them on a regular basis. Salud!
Thanks for the vid and enjoy your Krug!
Great tasting as usual! Like you mentioned, it would be fun to taste together. Maybe release a list a couple weeks ahead of time and we can buy and taste at the same time as we watch?
great idea, a little masterclass perhaps?
Great idea. However maybe not with Krug :-)
And Maybe he can do it live as well.
Yes, excellent idea.
yes please !
Me I love KRUG!!! And Congrats to over 30.000 Likes!! Keep up the great work...
Another great video, thank you! This is my favourite "series" from you. I really enjoy it when you concentrate on one or two wines and go in depth with the tasting.
I loved the idea of you pairing the wines on the videos! It may accrete a lot the tastings! I’m admiring and always following your job and your effort to make these great videos! Keep going (:
I had always wondered if Krug is overrated - thank you for making this video!
Man I always wanted to taste Krug. Great Video
You can! I'm sure there's atleast one or two bottles in stores around your area. $200-$250 is steep for their base Cru but I usually buy one a year for my birthday. It's not so bad if you think of it as a once a year gift to yourself and partner, or something like that. Krug is supposed to be reserved for the best occasions anyway, it IS the king of Champagne.
@@irishg357 Idk as a student 250 $ is a months worth of food :D Maybe as a celebration for my first job!
Woow! This is why I love wine. Excellent video. the choice of sushi paring was awesome, especially the smoked eel with the Brut Rose.
Congratulations on 30k!
This was wonderful! Beautifully indulgent! I look forward to the day when I am able to try the Krug.
Thank you ! Great video after great video.
Excellent video! The 2008 any champagne from France is amazing! I have several 2008 Dom Perignon and a couple 2010’s. The 2010 is very good but lacks intensity and finish. The 2008 is almost perfect to me. 98 points

Great video !
A few years ago I went to a Krug tasting and it was lovely
Interesting. Thanks for sharing it, Konstantin!
Congratulations on 30K. I really enjoyed seeing how these wines paired with sushi.
Having no entry level cuvée might be the reason why Krug is still a blind spot on my personal map of Champagne which I definetely have to change!
Anyway, thanks for showing us!
Admire your content. Thank you 😊
great video! thx
side note: for those who dont want to spend that much money --> former cellar master of krug (eric rodez) is producing his own champagne. excellent and of course cheaper. on the other hand, everyone should try Krug in his/her life ;)
Great tip! What is the name of the label?
Congratulations on 30 thousand subscribers! 😄👍
Amazing Tasting!
I’ve only ever enjoyed one glass of some French wine a friend gave me years ago, but you’re videos are so addicting to watch. #bingeworthy
Nothing wrong with swirling Champagne 🍾🍾🍾
A magnificant tutorial for champagne tasting and appreciation. Chapeau. Damn the philistines.
Love the pairing at the end!
This weekend, I'm going to prepare myself simple and very fresh sushi rolls, and open one sparkling I have refrigerating. I ordered Krug for the generosity of Universe.
Not a bad way to celebrate 30k subs. On to the next Milestone.
Very beautiful tasting, high level of presentation, I could really taste the crab 🦀 and salmon 🥰
Fantastic video, thank you.
Im excited to try my 169th now but I do really want to find a bottle of the Mesnil single vineyard as I've read its the best one.
Always wanted to try Krug. After your reviews I think I want to try dom perignon more though.
Krug, DP, LR cristal
Thank you for your work, I enjoy your material tremendously!!! Stay thirsty!!!
Great tasting. I would love to see you taste a Château d'Yquem against a TBA. Can you make a video about that?
Great idea
Yes, please do! Include the 2021 vintage TBA in the review for the high acid and how this will affect the aging and end result.
Thanks in advance!@@KonstantinBaumMasterofWine
Love the video and content as always! I wonder what your thoughts are on leaving the champagne open during tasting. Do you have a favourite champagne closure? How long can the quality of the bubbles be sustained?
I want to know, too!
I used a normal Sparkling Wine stopper for one bottle and the Coravin Sparkling stopper for the others as I am going to taste them in a few days
A very difficult job in today's video :D ..... hahaha! Well done, although a bit jealous !! :D
Great video, love the part of the pairing with food. But weall have to be hydrated as well so not only thirsty but also doing something about it 😀
Thanks for your sharing, I feel like I want to open 2004 krug!
What a beautiful tasting 🤩!
Thank you for your amazing videos, i genuinely enjoy watching them! I do have some points that i think you left out:
Yes, Krug uses 205l oak barrels, but they are all around 17-20 years old, minimising the oak impact, which is not the objective of Krug.
In conjunction with this fact, it would be interesting to mention that Krug doesen't force malolactic at any stage, and it is generally not desired, however, if it happens it happens.
Krug actually has 6 cuvées: The ones you mentioned in the video and the mighty Krug Collection. Similar to the P2 and P3 champagnes from Dom Perignon, Krug plays with the time on the lees, and most of the Krug collections are left upwards of 20 years. Furthermore, it is only very few vintages that makes the cut.
Another point i wanted to add, is the fact that you swirl your glass when drinking champagne. Thank you for that! I believe it is essential when dealing with great wine, such as Krug.
Thank you again for your knowledge and incredible videos!
Greetings from Denmark.
Absolutely I love your job, too 😀
Great video Konstantin
You are The Man, Kilo Bravo !!!
“K”onstantin’s “K”rug tasting! :) Love Krugs.
Can't wait till I get my smell back after Covid - definitely will go after champagne and sushi to celebrate that! Cheers!
Hope you enjoy it!
@@KonstantinBaumMasterofWine i definitely will! Thanks :)
I had Krug edition 169 few months ago and that was super powerful and concentrated, lovely but not quite balanced or in a harmony at that moment in my opinion, it was like roaring in the glass. The other day I had a Krug NV with no edition statement on it, I found out it was the bottle produced between 2004-2011 when Krug didn't put edition on their NV bottles, the wine was super smooth and round with no edges. Still haven't got a chance to try a vintage Krug, looking forward to taste it one day!
As someone from Japan, I can confirm paring Champagne with Sushi is quite common here.
Yeah, only among super rich people.
And obviously Krug is one of top choices for them, along with Cristal and Dom.
Nice review as always.
Thanks for sharing!
For the other viewers: you got to be crazy for eating puffer fish. The cook can make a mistake and you die. And you got to be crazy NOT eating puffer fish. It tastes so good!
Nihon wa ichi-ban desu!
Great video, you are ranking really beautiful bottles, and then lm just checking the new idea of “canned” wine… everything is changing, i hope we can get your thoughts on this new canned idea.
My favorite Champagne! The pairings looked delicious and for sure I'm thirsty and hungry now! I would like to see a video on Champagne where you compare and explain different house styles. I know people that do not like Krug because of its opulent oaky style.
Konstanin great videos, can you make a video of maybe best wines for drinking with a special girl a couple or your best rated red wines, champagnes etc...
Danke Konstantin! Love your videos, very informative, engaging, funny and well done! Interesting champagnes, one of my absolute best tasting experiences of any wine was the 1995 Krug Clos de Mesnil, divine gold in a glass:-)
I just had the 2006 krug for the first time a few days ago while eating at Alma in Lisbon. Loved it. The 2006 is very round
I agree that you should swirl the champagne even if it might release some of the bubbles. I like to swirl my champagne also to bring out the flavors but need a bigger glass than a champagne glass. Thank you for the education on Krug.
Thanks for the interesting Video. My question is what do you do with the open bottles of the tastings? I guess you can't throw a party each time afterwards 😀
Drink, share and the rest goes into the food.
Congratulations with 30k. I feel you deserve many more. What I am really curious about is, how wasabi influences the pairing with champagne? You did not mention it, imho wasabi is an important ingredient to sushi.
I did not use any Wasabi - I think it would have messed with the match.
@@KonstantinBaumMasterofWine I find food pairings with bold flavours like wasabi, szechuan pepper and ginger very interesting. If you are ever out of ideas for new videos I would love to learn about your opinion on pairing these kind of flavours with wine!
Wonderful and love your channel! If you try nigiri with soybean sauce and wasabi together, will it overpower champagne? Thank you Konstantin.
Do you have any tips on how to evaluate the body of a sparkling wine? I'm confused by all the bubbles.
Love this video. I drink a lot of old Washington state wine .
While the advice for a right glass for a specific wine is always appreciated, I must say the wearing earplugs metaphor in concerts wasn't really on point. I guess that was used long time ago but modern day earplugs made for concerts and live music can be really well made and can actually make your listening experience a lot more enjoyable than without any. Especially rest of the evening or next day without having ringing ears which means you have made some damage.
People need to be aware that our ears are unique and anyone can seriously damage their hearing very easily when dealing with loud noises. I used to play and spend a lot of time in garages, band rooms, concerts etc. in my teens and lost my high frequency hearing and get occasionally very bad tinnitus. Any too loud noice or loud environment for me can do some serious hearing damage and probably already caused an extra hearing loss when I get older.
But as always very good and interesting content on wine and congrats for 30k subs!
That looked like a lot of fun.
great show. thank you, k.

tokyo
you were eating sushi btw not sashimi.
You are right!
It would be great to see a video of different Grower Champagne’s wines. Maybe a Special Club best selection
Never thought about pairing sushi with quality champagne... Now I can't wait to try it. Maybe not Krug, but something good. And, yes, that unagi is a special treat!
Konstantin’s please review Selosse and Agrapart
Thank you for a fab u luss tasting! Very informative. You need to invite me to your next tasting, please!!!!!!! Lucky chap!!
Epic video. Seems like the best value for money is the non-vintage. Also, wonder why Krug were the last to release a 2008 vintage. Dom P released theirs ages ago.
Dom was not that long ago to be honest, and for example Taittinger' Comtes came in late 2020. Pommery's Vintage also came last year i think and their Louise is only at 2005, so it will take a while until they release their 2008. Gosset is also still keeping it, despite having 2012 released already.
There are still some vintage 2008 in the cellars of different champagne makers waiting to be released. Then there are 2008s being continuously released with later disgorgement dates.
Very nice tasting once again, Konstantin. Relative to the price of 250 EUR and north, these champagnes had to makte it 95 and more. I wonder if you can recommend 5 top champagnes below 70 EUR a bottle?
A vintage Krug with a super-cheap low quality supermarket sushi😂😂😂priceless
champagne+sushi=love
Another wonderful tasting that makes me thirsty as hell 😋
Do you think you can provide CC(EN, at least) in your upcoming videos? It would be a great help for non-English speakers like myself to be engaged more with your channel.
Cheers from South Korea!
Great! When I watch my videos I get auto-generated Cc from UA-cam. Do you not get them?
@@KonstantinBaumMasterofWine I do get it (auto-generated one) but it is not quite following your talk accurately. Also the sync is not quite well. Having closed captions in your video will make your channel much nicer and approachable for sure 😉🤞
I usually wear earplugs at concerts... then again, I probably don't go to the same concerts as Mrs. Henriquez.
😆
Evidently Maggie Henríquez never went to a Sunn O))) concert.
Probably not ...
What can I say.. F****delicious!
Haters don't understand how important it is to expose the wine to oxygen, even champagne. But with your glass it will preserve more carbonation than in any other glass
True!
Never tried Krug, hopefully one day :)
On your recommendation I have recently purchased the Riedel Performance series. I bought the pinot noir, cabernet and riesling glass. For the moment I'm using the riesling glass for champagne (had a lovely La Grande Année '08 last weekend, the glass performed great). Would you recommend getting the Veritas champagne glass specifically for my champagne needs?
