Nope, Have this exact model. That motor is boring AF, buy the Yamaha w/triple. I've got 6k miles and I'm ready to sell but the value drop has got me stuck.
I've got 75k miles on my 2014 FZ-09 (MT-09) which has the same triple as the Tracer... Never had a single issue with the engine, the compression is still exactly within spec and it put down 118 hp at the rear wheel on the dyno earlier this year.
Your review seems to contradict nearly every ‘independent’ review out there, other than BMW Fanboys. Tracer engine is far superior which is enough to buy over XR, but the Yamaha Tech is also far superior. The XR is nice, but seems outdated by Tracer standards.
I got the '24 tracer 9 gt+ in August and have absolutely loved every one of the 6,500 miles I have put on it. I would have to argue that the tech and engine/reliability/performance go to the yamaha. I would have to give styling to the BMW.
XR900 is nice but the newly updated 24 Tracer is a much better buy with the engine, electronic suspension front and back, adaptive cruise control and brakes, and updated electronics. And it comes with hard lockable panniers.
@@SergeyVikultsev it's more like a metaphore😂 with cars but ok, compared to BMW E46 or E60 (or M5), maybe Merc E190, dang - maybe better comparison WV Bettle from previous century...
@@NinjaTTT I know, just curious. Because Clio is not better seller than BMW, and you can find information online. BMW sells more series 3 than Renault Clio per year. So by any logic or numbers Clio is not a better car :) And yes, Yamaha sells 10-15X motorcycles per year compared to BMW figures :)
@@NinjaTTTpeople are paying with their own money when buying a motorcycle. And when people are doing that they are looking for the best product possible for the money they're willing to spend. In this case we can clearly see a winner between Tracer 9 and F900XR.
Really man? I had F850GS and F900XR has the same engine, and the engine is really boring. Tracer engine is a masterpiece comparing to this. And front suspension without any adjustments vs electronic plus preload on Tracer - big plus for Tracer here. Overall F900XR is a good bike, but needed at least suspension upgrade.
I’ve ridden both - both 2024 models. Tracer 9 is much livelier and responsive, and also feels lighter. F900 feels more stable at higher speed. Both are good bike - test ride them both and get what you like.
I rented one of these for a week touring in Switzerland and Italy in 2022. Got to say I was very relieved to get back on my Tracer 9GT when I got home. The BMW isn’t a bad bike but the Tracer is sooo much smoother and handles way better. Went on to upgrade to the 9GT+ - it’s even better!!
I rode the Tracer 9 gt for one summer. Honestly the Windscreen caused huge buffeting at speeds 70kph plus for me and i couldn’t even ride with earplugs. Felt like it reverbated through my skull. That and the piss poor max steer lock made me hate it.
Hi Greg. Thank you for the review. I think you have to give a context to people saying what you need from the bike. There is probably no absolute “better” or “worse”. All depends on what you need from the bike. I run a fleet of bikes in my business, and what I learned, the bike which absolute star for one job, can perform poorly in other scenarios. Speaking of Yamaha, performance wise, and I am talking about handling, engine, reliability BMW not even close to Yamaha. So those who want absolute engineering perfection in the mountains or broads, CP3 doesn’t leave any chances to BMW. However, as a package, and I mean comfort, UX, finishing, and overall use, BMW might be the best choice for those who aren’t looking for a performance part and need the bike which is just convenient and has a premium touch. So it is all about what type of riding you do and where. Also, for 2025 both XR and GT are updated. Yamaha made a leap in what comes as a package, and that’s where you can actually lean towards Yamaha even though XR has better specs too. Thanks for your video and hope you don’t mind my two cents ;)
After owning an F900 XR for three years and 18,000klms, my experience says buy the Tracer. The loncin motor while having good power, sounds like a metal bucket of nuts and bolts. The clutch rumbles horribly, it's not reliable. I had multiple warranty issues. One they couldn't solve. Fork seals went at 10,000klms. Added to all that, the service level from BMW dealers here in Oz is pathetically poor. One dealer nearly killed me twice from not putting the bike back together properly. I wouldn't trust them to put air in a tyre. I sold it (massive depreciation) and bought a Transalp 750. It's a way nicer bike to ride and own. I've owned two bmw's over the years, neither were reliable. I won't ever buy another BMW as long as I live.
Another beautiful bike that I remember and I say again people do not deny youselves good things, never the less there is someone in Kampala that owns a Tracer and no if I had to make the choice I prefer the compact look of the Teacer ... Okay, granted that I am yet to see this in live colour.
As a mechanic, in my opinion and experience, I disagree, the engine on the new bmw's is worse then the older versions. I've seen blown engine at 1000 miles, internal bearing failure and camshaft with broken valves. Yamaha ftw.
Hi thanks for all your content. Ive just bought my first bike and all your advice is gold. Any chance you could try out the Z7 HYBRID? Is it a game changer?
I put 18,000 on my 2022 F900XR, love the bike except the quick shift up, not smooth. Blip down ok. The seat is not comfortable on long rides. Yes, the engine is manufactured in China. 😕 Flic ability improved greatly with Michelin Road 6s vs original tires.
I can't seem to find your "The 2022 BMW S1000XR is the best sport touring motorcycle made" video - mentioned in this video. Can you please post a link?
Hi mate, fantastic channel indeed, quick ? Is the 1000xr still as buzzy as the 2019 model I test rode back then? Felt it all through the pegs and handlebars, have bmw fixed the vibes? Keep up the spiffing Sterling job on your channel pal, cheers mate 👍
Hi there, thanks for your nice reviews! Could you please take a look at R12 model? I would be looking forward to to see what are your thoughts about it. Thanks! Have a good upcoming year!
F900XR, Tracer 9 GT, Tiger Sport 800 all set about the same price and specs but are they too damn boring and refined for a one bike garage? I really considered the Tiger sport 800 as a replacement for my 2012 gen 1 Tiger 800 but the new one will be $15k by the time it has bags etc whereas the old tigers can be bought for $5k are probably 80% as good as the new bikes.
I'm looking for my next lightweight ST and the Triumph Tiger Sport 800 is on the top of my list. Cant wait to test sit/ride one. Going to be released in February 2025.
Sounds good even with stock exhaust, I have the F900r which has the same engine and although I’ll probably end up changing the exhaust for a Leo Vince, I am very happy with the stock exhaust note. I tried the MT07 before I bought the BMW and the stock exhaust on that sounded terrible in comparison

I have the F900XR and its.a great bike, but the engine on the tracer is next level

Tested both, the BMW screen is better, the rest of the bike not. The Tracer 9 is better IMHO. And man, the CP3 engine is a prodigy.
If buying used or keeping for many years, you can't beat Yamaha reliability.
Yep, although BMWs Chinese assembled engine is not that bad, it's just not a very refined engine. And the sound is pretty mediocre, imho.
