Hi - I spend a lot of time watching videos on UA-cam and, without a doubt, you are one of the very best at explaining and showing what you mean...thank you very much 😀 👍Best Regards from Denmark.
2:46 - just to add: there are 3 ways to update the home point. 1: tap the arrow icon on top right of the screen the home point will be updated to where the drone is currently located 2: tap the controller icon beneath will update the home point to the controllers current location 3: drag the map around and the home point will be updated to the position shown by the "H" on the screen
Great tips, especially the one about accidentally turning the screen off on the RC2. I would have been in panic mode! Now, I have one for all you guys out there. Why remove the SD card from your drone when you can just plug the drone into your PC with a USB cable. It will show up as an additional drive. Transfer your data and your good to go. You never forget your SD card, less chance of static zapping the card since you are handling it a lot less. Just reformat when connected to the controller and you're all set. However, it is still a good idea to carry a spare SD card just in case of other issues. It's cheap insurance.
Thanks for all your safety advice. I think one important piece of advice is that all drone pilots should use before each flight, and was taught when I was flying full size aircraft is to have a preflight check list in hand or on your mobile device, and run thru a good visual check of your drone, all transmitter settings Battery conditions. And most important, have an app on your phone to check for local air traffic. If you follow your check list you are assuring yourself a safe, and successful flight. Hope you and your Family have a Nice Christmas, and a better New Year. Tom
On the first day I got the DJI Mini 4 Pro, I changed it to sports mode on the controller (as it was not auto landing due to obstacles and I didn't know what else to do). Then I forgot to switch it back to Normal mode and crashed it on the second flight 😂 Fortunately it survived. Overall your channel helped me get familiar with my drone even before I got it in my hands. So thanks for all the efforts.
Useful tips for a first time buyer of a dedicated camera drone. The important takeaway I'm seeing as a pattern, is to always check your settings (home point, OA, video res, etc.) before flying. Could save your shot, and could save your drone. Other stuff is basic video production check boxes. Enough battery power, memory cards for a given shoot, plus spare parts/props (tools/screwdriver) for the occasional collision/crash.
I didn't know about the power button turning off the rc2 screen. I'm surprised I haven't already accidentally turned off the screen and started panicking. Good tip!!
Great advice. Last June in Norway I was flying from a small jetty around 11 pm over a very still lake. Bringing it into land I made the mistake of approaching too low; low enough to confuse the sensors and it went for a swim. 3 weeks later I get a call from the police to say the drone had been found and handed in. They inspected the footage and saw the motorhome regn number recognising it as one awaiting transportation to the UK. Yes , we’d broken down! The drone was put in the motorhome and when we were able to empty it some 4weeks later, the drone flew flawlessly. Add ed to that the battery took a full charge. Must be something in the water!!
So your drone went into salt water, was found and handed into the Norwegian police. They placed it into your, MH, awaiting to be returned (after breakdown) to uk . When it got back to your location, you found it was completely fine and was flying without any problems....amazing.!!!
🙂Thank You Williamm for some Great Tips I always look forward to Watching Your Videos and Learning from You.🙂💙👍Watching from Canada Happy Flying👍Wishing You a Very Merry Christmas.👍
One issue I've had with the home point, is I've taken off with my Neo or Mini 4 Pro without full satellite coverage. Then along the route once satellites were full, the home point set mid flight automatically. Usually not in a good place. I'd have to double back, and manually update the home point. I missed that mistake a few times, and almost landed in some bad situations.
This is such a great point! I know a few people who’ve been caught out flying over water because of this. I always make sure to wait for a full GPS lock before taking off for that reason. It used to be a pain on some older DJI drones, which could take 1-2 minutes to lock onto GPS, but now they seem to lock on pretty quickly!
So far, I've only crashed a drone once. I was sending my Mini 4 Pro out in an area I know well. I noticed that the terrain was gradually rising, so I decided to raise the drone up a bit. Next thing I knew, I hit the top of the highest dead tree in the area and the drone spun to the ground. You have to love that 'Find My drone' feature. I found the drone and even flew it partway back to camp. Later, watching the video, I saw that the drone had actually descended into the tree. The thin, bare branches had delayed the avoidance moves. In 1983, I earned my Commercial Pilot's License. Some years later, I flew RC planes. In full-size planes as well as in RC planes, when you want to go up, you pull back on the stick. With drones, it is the opposite. Years of muscle memory had kicked in and put me down. You can change the transmitter mode, but there isn't any 'servo reverse' function on drone controllers.
I lost my Air 2S on vacation last year. I didn’t thoroughly scout the area before flying and completely lost my Air 2S in a Georgia forested mountainside. Completely my fault. My advice is know where you are flying and anticipate the obstacles. Don’t make my mistake.
Good advice. On that same note, change or download your memory card between flights to avoid losing data if the unthinkable happens. I was working with a drone unit and they kept the same card in all day and on the last shot (getting darker) and they didn’t scout out location or see obstacles (wires) and crashed their drone with the full days work into the water.
Just to add my take on the moving home point thing, just set the drone to hover when the connection is lost. It will stay where it is and you will have the time (depending on the battery charge of course) to turn around, come closer and get the signal back. (Very handy when you are on a moving boat !!) Needless to say, the next time you’re flying from a single home point, turn the lost connection settings back to RTH !
@ don’t know if this has happened to you, while flying in Thailand, I’ve probably took off before there were enough satellites locked, the drone shoot in the air, then dropped to ground, and finally flew into the branches of a tree, grateful that DJI has an authorized repair shop in Bangkok, after a couple hundred dollars and waiting for a few days, the drone was back in service. Good lesson for sure!
Hope this helps you avoid getting caught out! It can be really frustrating, especially when you capture a great shot and then realize it was in 1080p afterwards!
@@TheDroneCreative Your other videos are equally informative. The effort you put into the content and your enthusiasm for delivery feel genuine. About 8:48 wind speed too high. I experienced the same testing my Neo. The thing you didn't mention was, when it was flipped over, additionally the motors immediately stopped and down it went, free fall without any chance to recover into high gras. It wasn't too high and Neo is a trooper when it comes to crashes, so nothing was damaged. I wonder if the same could happen to the bigger and much more fragile drones, Minis, Airs. Motors off, so crashing and breaking their arms ... I hope DJI fixes this behaviour with an update. I mean this is standard behaviour too when grabbing the drone manually and flipping it, but software knows height so could decide to fly a recovery flip instead.
The RC2 screen off option is actually quite useful for saving battery. Use case: you're doing a Hyperlapse or another flight that's done automatically and last for minutes that you don't have anything to do. You can turn off the screen and save battery on the controller.
Have been flying drones (even have the Avata 2) for about two years. Fly one of my 4 drones every day (don't fly in the rain).I have never crashed a drone. Am I doing something wrong?
I’ve also to Hawaii and when I was flying and getting the literal dream shot, it was recording in 1080 P so I had to go back the next day and record in 4K
Great advice love your videos. Been flying DJI drones since 2016 currently own Mini 4 pro,Avata 2,Air 3. I have had my fair share of drone mishaps over the years. I have flown at many of the locations you have. So from one N.I guy to another wishing you a very happy christmas and best wishes for 2025.
Keep it clean... had am similar Problem. Flying in Ireland over Sea-Water and then i had always lensflares in the video. So the salt in the wind at the sea was on the camera. Clean the lens, problem away
Yo help me two of my mini 2 se battery is kinda have a bumb on it the first battery i think i broke it when i crash it and the second one is might be after we don't fly it for a week what do i do
If it seems ok you can risk having it catch fire in flight but me personally also have a mini 2se and mini 4 pro , avata since they all use lithium ion batteries you can risk it, but I honestly would try to return it or get a new one
I thought the mini pro has internal storage cause I’m getting ready to go to Puerto Rico and I wasn’t gonna get a SD card. I was just gonna use the internal storage???? should I get a SD card it’s for the mini four pro
My mistake that was totally embarrassing... was buying a air 3S at best buy over the phone and then when I went to pick it up I thought great this is going to be epic then I brought it home and I looked at the Box more closely and it didn't have the S on it it was only the air 3.. ughh... so then I went back to Best Buy and said this is the wrong one then they said they don't even have that one right now so I had to order it directly from the website but luckily I got everything taken care of... .. another issue is my Mini Pro 4 doesn't connect to my phone through the app it says device may be connected to another phone but there isn't any and when I call support they didn't really help at all so I took that one back and said it was defective so hopefully my air 3S when it arrives will be will be connecting to my phone..
I too had forgotten I had turned off the obstacle avoidance on my DJI Mini4 pro the last time I flew it. I was making a pass very close to me, thinking the obstacle avoidance was on and instead of the drone going around me, I got hit in the side of the head ! Drone crashed and I dropped my controller!
I took my dji mini 3 pro to Cabo San Lucas. Flew rhe drone about 1.5 kilometers out to lands end filming seals. I have the fly more kit and charged the 3 batteries 🔋 to full. I believe the charge wasn't accurate with the Mexican electricity surges. So there I was flying, and suddenly, a low battery warning kicked in. So I flew a little more and then put it in sport mode and straight back where I was 50 meters from the water by the resorts pool.(The drone 1.5k out at lands end) Then critically low battery 🪫 warning suddenly appeared. Then an automatic landing initiated. By this time it was still a few hundred yards from shore. So here's by drone about to go for a swim. I kept pushing up on the controller and in my direction. It barely made it just to the shore on the beach. I yelled out to a local vendor and he handed it to my where I was on the resorts wall by the pool. My hands were shaking because I thought it was going to sink. Never trust another countries electricity current. Good thing I did have the insurance at the time.. There were 2 other incidents on that trip that it almost went for a swim, and those times were my own stupidity.
@TheDroneCreative Thank so much for your reply. You have natural UA-cam Talent in content Creations and in teaching you get straight to the point which I like. I love your flying technique videos for example the orbit video and things like that. We should be so lucky to have technology like this. Great video and thank you for sharing all the knowledge and tips. At 10 minutes in you talked about music, the first 10 minutes had a background loop that was distracting. I paused the video to reset, it was very subtle in the background. UA-camrs choice, just saying. My suggestion is use music as a tool and know where and when to apply it. Also keep it moving not to lose interest. It's subtle, but it's picked up. imo
