It's so easy to do it's insane. I now feel like a normal person finally. I feel satisfied sooner and I'm eating healthy and the weight is melting away!

Excellent discussion on berberine and curcumin. I take both of them together as a permanent part of my supplement regimen. Without question I can feel the difference in my health when I take them. I have more energy, sleep better, improved mood, mental clarity/elimination of brain fog, better digestion, reduced appetite, reduced inflammation/aches and pains. I believe there is a synergic effect going on there, probably related to the gut microbiota. Thanks for the excellent work Mike.
When do you take berberine? I was thinking it after training and before dinner to avoid blood sugar spikes before bed. I think it was making me constipated and didn’t want to take it during the day while fasting because I heard that it made you tired and was suggested to take it at night.
@@HH-gv8mx When I first started taking it, believe it or not it gave me insomnia and some agitation so I stopped it. Then several months later, after realizing that the research is undeniable that it is favorable for human health, I tried it again. I started with 1 500mg dose in the morning, then after a week or two I took a second 500mg in the evening. I now take 500 3x per day before meals. If you are like me it will take a bit of an adjustment but realistically I don't think it took more than 4-5 days. I find I need to keep well hydrated.

I took regular berberine for 2 years and can't tell you I noticed a difference. A couple of months ago, switched to the dihydroberberine and noticed a big difference in my blood glucose. In fact, I had a bit of a problem in that it lowered my blood pressure a little too much and I had to adjust my electrolytes. We are carnivore so I don't know if that makes a difference. My husband just switched this week to dihydroberberine from the regular, so we will see if he has the same experience. I would have loved the less expensive regular stuff to have worked as well. I do have RA, and perhaps that changes things. I had lost 150lbs, but when RA developed, my blood glucose numbers started moving up, even very strict high fat carnivore. The new berberine has helped get those numbers down, even on days I have flares. I certainly appreciate all the information. I keep an open mind and take it all in.
Can I ask, did dihydroberberine cause constipation? I use to take it but quit after 2 months because I couldn’t stand the constipation anymore. I would dread going to the bathroom and it caused hemorrhoids. I was wondering if regular berberine was better in that respect.

Emily, I have been intensely researching HORMONE D LEVELS & have read many times over that a healthy dose of UVB (Summer & noonish!) takes approximately 20minutes to 2 HOURS, depending on your personal/racial skin tone (I - VI). Get a barely pinked reaction before slathering on/covering up to prevent any burning. Supplement for LOW UVB seasons and/or higher level therapies. (If you are a Redhead, perhaps stick to supplements & fatty wild fish for higher safety?) Don’t forget to take K2 & Mg to aid D’s protective teamwork and get repeatedly tested while dialing it in. We are all different. (It took my obesity 20,0000IU/day, not the 5,000IU/day Rx’d & Covid hospital patients were saved with the higher metabolized calcifidiol at 60,000IU/day!) I safely raised my D from a dangerously low 6ng/ml preCovid up to my target range of 70-80ng/ml and my life has been changed. Follow Dr. Mercola for his recommendations too❤️
As someone who struggles with his lipid profile through FH, I thank you for the suggestion about berberine potentially alleviating atherosclerosis, Mike.
Mike this is so helpful! I was confused about the two, but bought Berberine Hydrochloride by Myoxcience. I didn’t have stomach upset and it’s too soon to have noticeable impact, but I am putting my trust in what you have explained backed by science. I’m from the Philippines and I got it in just a week through Amazon :)
I add about equal amounts of curcumin, berberine and 50% ECGC green tea extract to the water for my coffee that I boil and pour into the French press with coffee and other stuff. It disperses and solubilizes to a nice auburn shade prior to the pour.
I used to take Berberine with my Tea, and then read a study that suggests that Caffeine interferes with its absorption… too bad bcs it was a very convenient time to take it…
I love coffee but it flashes lots of minerals out of the body and i had to stop drinking it. Now I have one cup a week at the most, usually once a month.
I have metabolic issues - I’m overweight with a history of PCOS, fibroids, insulin resistance, hetero MTHFR, hypothyroid. I started berberine along with progesterone cream at 53 and with weight workouts I’ve lost 17+ inches overall in 2.5 weeks. The weight is unfortunately staying steady but I’m replacing fat with muscle and I’m sure it will eventually move. Love Berberine. Also people need to take it a minimum of 3-6 months to see real results.
VERY interesting video in regards to absorption, biopiperine has consistently been an added ingredient in so many supplements after its discovery for increasing Curcumin absorption, usually bumping its price significantly. While I still suspect there may be added benefit of piperine in regards to *some* compounds (I think recipes for Golden Milk/Turmeric including black pepper go back atleast a thousand years) the idea that biological absorption not being the all-around "end be all" is something I would've never considered. These gut bugs never cease to surprise me lol.
Last night I had a late night upper body push workout after work. It was a really good workout and I left feeling really good. When I got home, I tested my bedtime glucose level and it was really high. 132. I looked online and found that high intensity lifting and sprints can raise BG levels because of the hormones released by the intense exercise. Can you do an episode or point us to one you have already done on this topic? I'm sure there are some people who may be scared away from strength training by thos phenomenon and I feel like that would be a mistake. My thoughts are that yes it raises BG but it also puts it out of storage so that it can be burned up by post exercise oxygen consumption. What are your thoughts?
It also causes lots of inflamation and cortisol, but overall levels are decreased, so will fix a chronic problem. I am sure it will be the same with blood sugar, there may be a spike, but probably helps with a chronic issue
Where did you get a blood glucose monitor? I workout at night. Often hiit, running and strength training. I heard Dr. Andrew Huberman talk about how that can raise your blood glucose. I just ordered Berberine berberine because Mike suggested it on this podcast. I take it after my workout before dinner. For some reason it made me gain weight and caused me to have constipation. 🤔

Many people watching this video will have a cupboard stuffed with supplements...but they will still die in middle or old age and will have less money. @@mancunianinlondon supplements are VERY expensive. I remember growing up having an uncle who was very lean, super into fitness and drinking certain water and he took vitamins and supplements. He was poor. Everyone in my family made fun of him. They said he was crazy. He ended up dying, fairly young of some kind of cancer, I guess. And he died poor with a pantry, full of supplements and expensive water.
If you suspect you have IBS and had no SIBO breath test done before I highly recommend you do that ! As many as over 60 percent of people suspected of having IBS test positive for SIBO bacteria. Ironically Berberine is used to as a natural antibiotic to treat SIBO. Years ago I tried berberine and felt so bloated ! But now I know I have SIBO I will use it to kill SIBO
My personal experience with SIBO for years is oregano oil and Allicin. Cut out sugar and reduce or eliminate processed carbs. Within two weeks I was good. Also taking a soil based probiotic and NOT the regular probiotic which fuels the bad bacteria. FYI, if I start eating a poor diet again (holiday treats for weeks) SIBO comes back and it can take weeks to get it back under control. I have a sugar addiction which is likely the cause of my SIBO to start. Good luck.
Thanks as always for an excellent video!! I read a study regarding better health bio markers results when curcurmin & Berberine are taken together. Looking now to find again and will post link.

Thank you so much for your explanation and information on Berberine. Could you address the warnings on taking Berberine that is also in the literature. For those of us who have not started taking Berberine yet
Hi Mike, I very much enjoy your channel for reading and analyzing the research, and alternative viewpoints. I'm curious why you are calling Berberine a probiotic. Standard definition would be that it is a prebiotic, that is a source of food/energy for bacteria, and where probiotics are actually the orally injested bacteria. It is important to keep this distinction.
Interesting video, Mike, thanks for this. Can I ask, when you say Berberine works more as a probiotic ( a good bacteria) wouldn’t it actually be more like a prebiotic? Prebiotics feed and nourish the good bugs in our gut and alter the overall composition. My understanding is Berberine is a plant colour or flavonoid, and that is how flavonoids work. Or perhaps I have this wrong.

(If you are a Redhead, perhaps stick to supplements & fatty wild fish for higher safety?)
Don’t forget to take K2 & Mg to aid D’s protective teamwork and get repeatedly tested while dialing it in. We are all different. (It took my obesity 20,0000IU/day, not the 5,000IU/day Rx’d & Covid hospital patients were saved with the higher metabolized calcifidiol at 60,000IU/day!)
I safely raised my D from a dangerously low 6ng/ml preCovid up to my target range of 70-80ng/ml and my life has been changed. Follow Dr. Mercola for his recommendations too❤️
It’s really good for cancer too .
As someone who struggles with his lipid profile through FH, I thank you for the suggestion about berberine potentially alleviating atherosclerosis, Mike.
Berberine HCL just works, been using it for 15 years.
Excellent information thank you
I add about equal amounts of curcumin, berberine and 50% ECGC green tea extract to the water for my coffee that I boil and pour into the French press with coffee and other stuff. It disperses and solubilizes to a nice auburn shade prior to the pour.
What grams or volumes do you use per 8oz cup? I would like to try it!
Right time, because I restart taking berberine. Hope I will see some changes in a couple of weeks. Thanks
I eat very clean, exercise regularly. I was curious about NMN. What are your thoughts on that? I couldn’t find any videos of you talking about it.
Maybe in your experience, but I’ve seen people see crazy changes on berberine physically, and on blood work within 2 weeks!

Trust the process!
i've always had a good clean diet and a healthy lifestyle - Berberine is my friend all the way ! thanks for another helpful video
How many mg of berberine should we take daily to see it’s benefit?
900 to 1500mg daily according to Dr Ford Brewer.
I split my intake into twice a day.
I had constipation for the longest time. I've been taking berberine HCL 1500mg daily for 1 month - constipation gone!!
This is great information. Thank-you!
@H H about the weight gain and constipation, I am at a loss. Sorry. As for the Glucose monitor, I got it prescribed. I have an Accu Check Guide. I really like it.
Berberine is magic. Thank you for the education.
Mike, interesting info. Where're the links about Berberine studies 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️
Can you take berberine and nattokinase together? Thin blood too much?
I'm drinking these videos up.
I ordered the berberine off of the website. It is listed on this podcast. I actually gained weight and it made me constipated.
Many people watching this video will have a cupboard stuffed with supplements...but they will still die in middle or old age and will have less money. Supplements are expensive and many companies make an fortune. Do you think we had all these supplements decades ago when we were lean, mean fighting machines?
@@mancunianinlondon supplements are VERY expensive. I remember growing up having an uncle who was very lean, super into fitness and drinking certain water and he took vitamins and supplements. He was poor. Everyone in my family made fun of him. They said he was crazy. He ended up dying, fairly young of some kind of cancer, I guess. And he died poor with a pantry, full of supplements and expensive water.
@@mancunianinlondonGood point😅
Thank you for the great work . ❤
Berberine is amazing for diabetics
Have you seen the antiurolithic effects in berberine against calcium oxalate stones?
Is berberine something that anyone with IBS symptoms should try? Are there downsides?
If you suspect you have IBS and had no SIBO breath test done before I highly recommend you do that ! As many as over 60 percent of people suspected of having IBS test positive for SIBO bacteria.
Ironically Berberine is used to as a natural antibiotic to treat SIBO.
Years ago I tried berberine and felt so bloated ! But now I know I have SIBO I will use it to kill SIBO
you might want to look into the side effects, there are many.
Which is best for SIBO or dysbioses?
My personal experience with SIBO for years is oregano oil and Allicin. Cut out sugar and reduce or eliminate processed carbs. Within two weeks I was good. Also taking a soil based probiotic and NOT the regular probiotic which fuels the bad bacteria. FYI, if I start eating a poor diet again (holiday treats for weeks) SIBO comes back and it can take weeks to get it back under control. I have a sugar addiction which is likely the cause of my SIBO to start. Good luck.
@@kathleen9456 whats a soil based probiotic? can u give examples of strains?
Good work!
Sometimes it's very inconvenient to avoid industrial vegetable seed oils. It's good to know of a defense.
Great info. Did not know this! Def reinforces what I’m already doing.
Some people say that metformin and berberin are bad for muscle gains.
They may inhibit hypertrophy (size gains) but studies show strength gains are not affected.
I take oregon grape root powder, is that adequate or do you think it should be the extract?
Great explanation!
I really want to try it but I'm hesitant because of it's muscle wasting potential...anyway of mediating that?
I love Berberine!!! Helped me a lot.
Thanks as always for an excellent video!!
I read a study regarding better health bio markers results when curcurmin & Berberine are taken together. Looking now to find again and will post link.
Excellent
Thank you! Always intrigued by your finds!!
what types of fruit smoothies for it
Idea from listening to this podcast. Doesn’t Quinine, Tonic water helps push molecules deeper into the cell? There for, would Tonic water help with Berberine absorption?
I’ve also heard when sick, to take Tonic water and zinc to it will help get you better quicker.
I’m going to start drinking tonic water with all my vitamins….
Thank you. I finally understand it.
Great info, can this be taken with digestive enzymes? Also what's the appropriate amount to start off with?
How do you take Berberine for the possible effects on arterial plaques than? Is there a way to ensure it targets the CV system and not just the micro biome?
My wife is an herbalist and made a tincture from agarita (very abundant here in TX). I take 1/2 a dropper full every day.
Thank you for the info
It is one of our most popular ingredients! Great video.
took berberine as an antimicrobrial along with wormwood and black walnut. I only took it for one month and it helped a lot. Is it an antimicrobrial, or was it just in the mixture to help with the other stuff?
EXACTLY what I’m doing 😊 EXACTLY
Good sounds like what I need thanks.
Is the reason it seems to help reduce coronary plaque due to its effect on insulin resistance?
Thank you so much for your explanation and information on Berberine.
Could you address the warnings on taking Berberine that is also in the literature. For those of us who have not started taking Berberine yet
What warnings are given? Have a link to your info?
Consider getting your berberine from oregon grapes which may contain other phytonutrients that synergize with berberine.
I take turmeric and a good probiotic, can I add berberine as well, or can someone upset the microbiome by using them?
Hi Mike, I very much enjoy your channel for reading and analyzing the research, and alternative viewpoints. I'm curious why you are calling Berberine a probiotic. Standard definition would be that it is a prebiotic, that is a source of food/energy for bacteria, and where probiotics are actually the orally injested bacteria. It is important to keep this distinction.
I agree, It is more like an antibiotic/prebiotic. Probiotics are bacteria.
Is there a benefit to taking Berberine and metformin or is it one or the other?
Interesting video, Mike, thanks for this. Can I ask, when you say Berberine works more as a probiotic ( a good bacteria) wouldn’t it actually be more like a prebiotic? Prebiotics feed and nourish the good bugs in our gut and alter the overall composition. My understanding is Berberine is a plant colour or flavonoid, and that is how flavonoids work. Or perhaps I have this wrong.
Good point
I take metformin for pre-diabeties. Did berberine work better. I'm just starting to work-out and heard berberine was better for that.
Thank you for the informative video. Which part of the research you relayed was derived from human trial?
thank you
Where do I get the berberine hcl I'm on atorvastin and blood pressure med along with plavix do to a stroke I was told to stay away from turmeric, but yet the station makes my legs hurt I want to get off the station I crave sweets please help, give me an answer I'm on a fixed income I'm 72 I get alot of mucus when I eat pasta starch in general
great information.
I was having a real interest in berberine until I heard it can promote muscle loss and create heart issues. At 52 I’m already trying to do everything I can to not lose muscle mass.
That’s something to research , I am doing all I can to increase muscle mass at 66 so not sure what to think. I have Mcas and need to sort leaky gut.
@@cherylwilliams4245 there was a video I watched not long ago that discussed all the pros and all the cons of berberine and while I was very interested in it for the help in arterial plaque when it said it have a negative effect of promoting muscle tissue retention as well as be dangerous if you’ve had previous heart issues like palpitations or arrhythmia it became a no go for me.
Thank you so much for this video. I had started taking Berberin 10 years ago but always stopped and started stopped started because didn't feel any positive affect. I didn't want to damage my health because Berberin sold before wasn't reliable, and manufacturing practices were shady. Now, more Berberin and different than before.
Fantastic video that brought together a lot of different research paths that I've been taking. Berberine is my next experiment n = 1
How much dose is recommended to take berberin and is it possible to open the capsule to put it in a joghurt or shake? or would that decrease the effect in the gut?
does this help even if your possibly suspecting candida or sibo ??
Hey Mike, what about natural whole sources of bernerine, as found in yellow root?
I have the same question. I hope he answers.
Can you take the burb rain with a probiotic or should you only take one or the other
I am considering using Berberine, but i wonder if it creates a dependency? Like your body becomes more insulin resistant because the berberine is doing the hard work? I don't know tbh.

Conflicted on whether to take berberine or not. There are studies on metformin that show that it blunts the positive effects of exercise. Do you think berberine does the same?? But you said, the benefits may be from a positive effect on gut biota, so is that a different mechanism of action than metformin?
Thanks! Your channel is one of my favs
Can't seem to get an answer on this myself.. I definitely experienced the issue with metformin's blocking effects. Right now I'm just taking Berberine at night before bed. So far so good. Only been a couple weeks, but can only experiment on myself for now
@@mutanthorrorshow Thanks for sharing your experience and sorry for the late reply.
I was also thinking about when the best time to avoid those effects. Ideally I would take it with a carb heavy meal to lower the AUC, but I don't really wanna cancel out my work out.Maybe I'll try the same as you since I work out in the morning.
Are you still doing it? Noticed any downside??
@@JP-gn5sf hey, so far I'm still seeing improvements in the gym so I don't believe it's hurting my performance. That being said.. I can't be certain if Barberine is having positive effects on my blood sugar. I really need to dust off the glucose meter and do some testing.
Does berberine without the HCl still work?
Can you link some of the studies you referred to during this video?
So if you only have high ldl and no gut irregularities should you still take it forever? Even if your diet isn’t rich in vegetable oils?
Did I miss it? What is the recommended dose for results.

Is barbarine good for gut health as assistant tool to get rid of candida or sibo?
Yes and oregano oil and or clove
I heard taking it with a tablespoon of coconut oil helps with absorption
Mike, any studies are the safety of teenagers taking berberine? I’d like to see if this could help my daughters digestive issues. She is 15
Answer: Take both... one pill of each - Berberine and dihydroberberine.
You get the "more absorbative" effect of one, and also the "normal" effect of the other
Can I ask you why the dosage why cut dowm from 4 to 3 pills and now is 90 instead of 120? Interested in what the motivation was behind it. Thank you 🙏
THANK YOU!!!❤
I've heard taking it 30 minutes before a meal is optimal. Do you think with the meal is better?
