  • Today's episode of WineText TV focuses on exploring the Timorasso wines. I emphasize that these wines are still largely unknown in America and are becoming an interesting category among serious wine collectors. My best friend Brandon also contributes by sharing insights about the limited number of producers for these wines and their comparative value against more expensive wines from regions like California and Burgundy. Hope you enjoy it!
Here are the four wines I tasted:
2021 Vietti Timorasso Derthona Colli Tortonesi: A beautiful timorasso with salted caramel, sliced mango, pear and apple aromas and flavors. Medium to full body. Bright and vivid acidity at the end. A lovely combination of ripe fruit and wild, crisp acidity. Vegan. About 30% aged in ceramic - James Suckling.
2022 La Spinetta Timorasso Derthona Colli Tortonesi: The 2022 Timorasso is gorgeous. Graphite, pear, chamomile, sage and dried herbs are delineated in this super-expressive white. As always, Timorasso is a white that emphasizes strong mineral and savory notes, while the fruit is in the background - Vinous.
2019 Il Poggio Timorasso Colli Tortonesi: 100% timorasso from a 2 ha plot of 20 year-old vines in Val Borbera, planted at 500-750 meters to south and southeastern expositions in calcareous-clay soils. Hand-harvested into small crates. Vinification and aging entirely in stainless steel. 2018 was the first vintage of this wine, with only 83 cases produced. Francesca hopes to grow the production of the timorasso in future vintages.
2021 Borgogno Timorasso Derthona Colli Tortonesi: Spiced pear mixed with candied lemon rind, wildflowers and fresh honey all swirl in concert in the glass. Each sniff brings out a new element from the wine: fruit, mineral and flower. The palate is full in body with a texture that will make you keep coming back and rue the moment the glass is finished, capped with apricot and a salty minerality - Wine Enthusiast.

One of these days I could start my own wine because I'm interested in doing something with alcohol. Thank you for inspiring me.

You can even make the flavor better of both wines by aerating them. I am not really talking about decanting. I am talking about putting them in a blender and running it for 5 to 10 seconds, then open the blender for a couple of minutes immediate after blending to let out VOCs (the bad part). Pour into your glasses to drink and the left over to leave in a decanter after that to drink.
I think you will get a far better change with that than using a charcoal water filter like Brita. If you do the briter water filter, I suggest leaving the top turned sideways (to leave the container open) during the filtering letting the wine drop into the lower container and the VOCs to evaporate out the opening to the open air. This is still more making the Brita into a drip aerator. Then pour into a decanter. That is to let VOCs still escape. There is a big difference, as some say it raises the price of a cheaper wine by $10.00 higher or so in flavor. It could make big changes on the expensive wine also..

Ive never watched a Garyvee wine video. He always says he only talks about things he knows about, this statement shines through in this video more than his business content.
Ps I dont know dick about wine and little about business. Good vid!

Have you ever reviewed wines from the oldest AVA in America? I’m very curious how these Missouri wines stack up against other regions. Billionaire David Hoffman seems to think they can compete.
