I believe Marty Robbins could sing the phonebook successfully. I've heard him on Late Night Radio just come in to the studio I'm staying with and without a guitar just talk to people

Been a admirier and fan since early 6o,s I hear eddy Arnold, in his first songs. As with mine.
Think about this a sec ..eddy a. Was known as the tenn cowboy , and sang good real country.
Marty other hand sang white sports coat. Great song.... Bot not hard core country..
Later the country guy eddy A sang. ( What's he doing in my world) a newer more refined country, while Marty r. Sang songs like don't worry bout me, and I'll walk alone.
Ever think about how these to of the worlds greatest singer/songwriters
Reversed their original take on country music. Of the two, I think Arnold changed his a&r more than Marty

I would have to disagree with Merle's assumption that Marty didn't 'know how great he was.' I think he was fully aware of his immense talent; not only that beautiful voice, but also the wonderful talent that had Marty creating his own material for most of his career. Add on the way he could entertain a crowd, well, he just had it all.

If it’s popular, then it’s pop. I never listened to Country music. But I knew “El Paso” and Jonny Cash’s “Ring of Fire” from Top 40 type stations. Both were hits and qualify as ‘Pop’.

@@antonioacevedo634 Huh? Pop music has been a common thing since the late ‘40s / early ‘50s. “Pop” is short for “Popular”. That IS how it works. Sure, pop CAN be rock’n’roll, but it doesn’t have to be. Probably not much of it is rock today though.
