Another great and unique video. I'll put my neck on the block and say the best HST livery still remains the GNER mallard livery. Theres been nothing quite the same before or after.
My first ever set was a 125 or class 43 way back in my youth... still have it running strong back at my parents house, some going as I’m 42 now she’s a classic
Wow ! What a beautiful Model Railway , I am now 79 Years of age but I still love Model Railway , this one must be as good as it gets. Peter from Jersey C.I.
My first train set was back in 1993, and it was a HST 125 Swift livery train set. I may lean towards steam because of watching all the connecting rods moving around. But, since the HST was my first train set, it has a special place in my mind, heart and model railway collecting history.
I received my GWR HST today, runs really well, I am very pleased, it is the lower-priced version from the train pack, I can't justify spending the £260 plus on a motorised toy loco.
Used to love watching the HST’s whizz past at Hendon Station back in the late 70’s ... who’d have thought they’d have been running over 40 years later !!
They can't run the Exeter - Waterloo route through Salisbury as they can't get past Andover. Apparently the wheelboxes interfere with the third rail on the run into Basingstoke
Absolutely amazing video showcase of a great train. Got all of them, got 12 power car sets and with full coach sets! Many monies! Just got my hands on the 40th anniversary western region blue and grey pack! My favourite! Thank you for the video. Pleasure to watch!
Unless you have the sound system of a nightclub in your room, you'll never quite recreate the deafening scream or feel the thunderous bellow of those Valenta V12s... you also need to be able to generate the blooms of smoke they'd throw out when revving up. Absolutely glorious engines.
I can remember asking and asking for a Hornby intercity HST set for xmas in 1989 when I was 4. My folks told me santa had forgot it then a little while later in the morning they took me into a different room in the house from my other presents and it was wizzing around in the dark and I can remember all you could see was the headlights on the train. It is one of my earliest memories.
I can't believe it's been over 16 months that 43002 has Retired along with other HSTs on the Great Western Mainline i had some good memories with Sir Kenneth over the last 4 years
Love the Network Rail yellow unit - I have the carriages here in New Zealand, but desperately waiting for the power unit and dummy car (R3769) to arrive - we are out of stock of just about everything Hornby down here, due to COVID 19. I have a list a mile long of items to buy!
One time quite a few years ago i did something i quite like doing, riding around London on the trains, and on one occasion i decided to go to Paddington station, and when i got up to the main concourse who else was there to greet me other then 43002, Sir Kenneth Grange, so that was nice
The variant of this train in Australia is still the only 'high speed train' being widely used. The XPT was Introduced in 1981 the fleet is being run into the ground. Still no word on any replacements.
Nice. Love the scotrail my personal favourite livery. The gwr is growing on me now I have the first and last set. Shame the xc wasn't there very smart in the livery with the SD coaches.
This underlines the problem. To look good you need both the power cars and carriages in the same livery. Local model shop has some nice Scotrail power cars but is it worth buying when no carriages around? You can't buy one without the availability of the other.
I'm just getting back into the hobby, I would like a mid to late '80s HST that used to run Kings Cross to Edinburgh, as I used to get off at Peterborough. What HST do I need?
Must be HST in the air today Richard... took delivery of my Dapol HST-P N Gauge very nice model, shame though the Inter City logo is on the wrong end on one side :(
After doing a small bit of research on trains for a little personal project I'm working on I kinda fell down a rabbit hole. Can't say I'm disappointed though
@@hornbymag Its an imrpovement, but (imo)still not good enough. I've got some German, Czech, Polish and Swiss trains driving around my layout where it seems as iff the coaches are ''glued together''. Especially the Roco IC2000 looks amazing and gentle to the eye.
Hi, I have just watched and enjoyed your HM159 Hornby HST takeover Topley Dale. I noticed straight away, the glossy appearance, but not on the sets that I have. Have yours been sprayed, or treated some how?? Thank you. John
It's almost (almost) a pity that I singularly model the Big Four-era LNER; that Scotrail HST set looks like it would be a nice compromise between prototypical realism, and space requirements.
I have never been one for sound effect units in RC models ( I used to scratch build RC model boats) that sound unit in 43101 sounds more like a hair dryer operating....
I guess Hornby are very Britain-centric in their range, but I do wonder if iconic trains worldwide, such as the various Japanese bullet trains, would sell.

Even 40 years from now the HST won't have been beaten. Nothing will compare to a Valenta HST IMO. Just love them !

Couldn't agree more

keith gilham still got mine as well from the late 70’s and still runs. Was the basic starter set oval plus a first class coach as a Christmas present.
I have my dad's from the 70s with lights that still works after 50 years
Iconic train . Surely the best British train ever . At one stage BR had more 125mph trains than anywhere else
Thanks Richard, brilliant run. A South African in love with British railways, anything 70’s and younger 🚂♥️
I have a Hornby train set in my loft that I got for my birthday .This video gave me lots of inspiration

Amazing. Got to love the Intercity swallow livery
Always great to see full length HST's running. 👍🏻

Great look at the HST's, fantastic sound you can get now if you've got the right set-up and decoder.
I'm lucky to have EMR Class 43s run past my house every day.
I’m guessing you don’t sleep at night

Liked your narration. Currently I have ten pairs in my collection, all with sound and improved speakers. The latest two sets, ordered this evening.
Ha your collection is always growing
Absolutely Awesome Hornby Magazine well done on an outstanding video on an outstanding train class
I really like the Network rail yellow!

Without a doubt the greatest train Britain has ever made.
great video well done guys! Swallow livery FTW!
I got a Virgin HST in 2007, beautiful train and still my favourite.
Although it’s not my favourite paint scheme the intercity has a special place in my heart from Trainz driver 💜
Very well presented as usual Richard. My favourite diesel!
Thanks chap
HSTs are beautiful. Absolutely beautiful
Felt a bit of nostalgia.
I’m 13

GWR and Scotrail liveries are very nice
Any HST video gets an automatic like from me :).
Just beautiful. And wonderful background music as well. I do like to see a bit of weathering, but, realize that’s a personal thing.
Amazing to see all them HST together
Thanks Matt
Goodness I agree. Love both of your channels
Great video.
I need to get myself more mk3s to finish off rakes, and then the power cars to match. I've got 6 rakes, but only 3 pairs of power cars.
Superb! Thank you. My original H HST still runs well.
just been on 2 ScotRail ones this week - if only we had the space for a layout! ;)

Well you'll get more now hornby n rails have parted company lol
Yellow certainly suits the HST and the engineering train certainly looks cool.
Great idea and nicely done.
Wonderful filming and very smooth running trains.....

A Grand Central HST Hornby set would be quite cool in my opinion

Who doesn't love an HST. Great video as ever guys
Thanks James
Stunning layout and camera work ...love the Gwr
I do love the flying banana!
I’m in love don’t tell the wife.
The HST's are nice too ? ;)
I just picked up my 21st set yesterday 😀😀 the cross country HST train pack, bet you couldn't fit all of them on the layout lol
That’s great my fav livery if the class 43 is the cross country I love them and they are so interesting only if you could fit them on
@@BrelodRail most definitely 😀😀

Enjoyed the review, ScotRail is my favorite paint scheme.
That was excellent who doesn’t love the HST s thanks Richard
You're welcome Kenny!
I always buy the Hornby magazine
How is it that the first and last GWR HST looks better with the Dapol N gauge, good job you don't do N gauge anymore.
Great running session swallow livery for me
Layout looks good too

I want a HST!
I just don’t know which livery, probably GWR, even though I model the ECML
I love the Network rail, scot rail, swallow, HST and GWR which I think are all of them
I am so jealous about all them trains Good vid😉
I have to agree the engine In the swallow livery is lush and it is also my favourite too
Marvellous video Richard, got to admit I still miss new junction 😢
New New Junction is coming 🤭😉
Like the high shine on the HST, Paint work look a lot better for it.
Amazing! Thank you...
What a lot of HSTs!!!!!
Got to love a Paxman HST winding up.
I'm just getting back into the hobby, I would like a mid to late '80s HST that used to run Kings Cross to Edinburgh, as I used to get off at Peterborough. What HST do I need?
Great stuff Richard
Thanks!
Wow seeing all these people made me realise I’m not the weird kid playing with trains in their teens 🤣
Must be HST in the air today Richard... took delivery of my Dapol HST-P N Gauge very nice model, shame though the Inter City logo is on the wrong end on one side :(
Do you have any video of your layout construction
I still like the early BR Intercity livery best
And I thought I had it bad, don't you just love 125's
Very nice mate
Very nice, just not enough room for the new xc set
Brilliant
Got old set of hst were can you get traction rubber wheels from
After doing a small bit of research on trains for a little personal project I'm working on I kinda fell down a rabbit hole. Can't say I'm disappointed though
Was planning to buy a complete set, but just seeing the huge gap between all the carriages really kills it for me😅
Check out our Hunts coupling video 😉

Hi John, no ours are all standard. The new GWR set has a glossy finish out of the box
There Will never be anything like a HST
Love this Richard, can we have a 00 vs N gauge 43 off lol. Cheers Geoff
Ooh now that's a suggestion, I've got a few N gauge HSTs...
I wonder what the collective noun for HSTs is? 🤔
a Superb....
A hormone of HSTs
😁 Next best thing to HRTs I assume. 👍
There seems to be a slight trackwork issue as the flying banana leaves the station - is there a piece of track that's missed the fishplate?
Might be dirty track
@@hornbymag Could be, but it looks like the train drops by a millimetre or so :)
