It's an absorbing hobby. When I was small my Dad and I had a big layout in our attic space. However we never did much in the way of landscaping. I realise there is this desire to make it look like the world in miniature, but my thrill came from seeing something move almost by magic. My train set sits in a box in my garage, waiting for the day I have room to get it out.
I know what you mean about the space ! After about 9 years packed away I now have my simple layout on my living room laminate floor it's not ideal but I can now run some trains and can be removed if necessary .
Wow now I'm liking the idea of the quarry sidings on topley dale, look forward to seeing it progress. It is such an important topic saving the railway heritage for future generations. Keep up the good work and stay safe to all the hornby magazine team James
I’m absolutely blown away ! The sounds, the realism, everything. The only thing I would do, as someone from an RC Scale model aircraft background, is have a right old go with an airbrush putting on some weathering and muck on everything 👍
That looks fantastic,i have just started constructing and designing the base and buying buildings,i have a long long way to go yet,im looking forward to it.
Just a couple of points to make on our bit: 1, a comment in the live feed seemed to think that they couldn't take photos when you visit the GCR, yes you can and I'm sure there will be a way of safely viewing the locomotive. 2, This interview was filmed before Leicester went into local lockdown which might delay some stages of reopening or alter some of the initial plans. 3, Thank you for visiting us and hopefully some of the viewers will visit us and/or other preserved railways when they reopen :)
Here in the USA there is a super market called Wallmart. I purchased a 4-pk of 12-inch cork panels, used for wall decoration. With a few hobby stores closed, I used the cork as track roadbed for my n-scale layout. It works great. I see that you are using a large roll of cork to lay your track on. Nice video mate.
Thank you for sharing! Once more a very interesting video. The new additions to your layout are once more very nice. Your layout is fastly becoming one of the most interesting on UA-cam. Looking forward to your next video!
Hi John, we (myself and 30742 Charters) were very impressed when we heard they felt the need not to seek help during the lockdown and I personally found it to be a very pleasant, professional railway despite not being one of the biggest :) Hopefully will visit again someday but it's a bit of a trek from Rugby!
Loved the video. Had a nice time sitting down with my dad and watching this. Please consider a better microphone because there’s way too much background audio being picked up and it’s difficult to hear you mate
Great Sounds from Locos - I particularly like the 8F (If I recognised it correctly) as it had a realistic souond rather than the electronic recreations one hears sometimes - please could you tell me which soound file was loaded onto it as it sounded an excellent job. Great video this week - well done.
Fantastic! However, why on hasn't it been edited? We don't need reminding about 'Lockdown!' I had covid19 and don't want to be reminded of it, thank you vey much! I'm a UA-camR myself, It's fairly simple to edit.
I Love Trains. I Am A Giant Fan. My Favourite Diesel Is A British Rail Class 09, Class 37, Class 66 And Class 72. Also I Love Steam Trains Too. My Favourite Steam Train Would Be A Great Western Railway Train And The LNER Class A4 Mallard.
As a school boy would watch 9Fs pulling 10+ iron ore bogies up the Upton incline to Summers works at Shotten steel works, end of steam diesels would fail with 10+ iron ore wagons, Rest is history.
I used to listen to them steamers shunting the iron ore bogies in the middle of the night, clang clang clang and the wheels spinning, I lived in mill lane in liscard just up from the docks, but one could hear them loud and clear and used to get my pennies squashed by the friendly drivers, no health and safety those days, we where free to get as close as we liked :)
Bonjour, c'est bien de montrer des nouvelles améliorations sur le circuit, mais de montrer comment faire les branchements électrique cela sera très bien aussi. Merci
Liked the new Bachmann 117 getting one. The peckett sound? I know it’s difficult in such a small loco but it sounds like sandpaper being scraped for the steam sound ? I’ve not heard anything in a model steam sound loco that makes me want to buy one. Diesels yes . Sorry but rest was great
I have been watching Topley Dale for a long time even though I model Swiss H0 Standard Gauge SBB & BLS. One thing on Topley Dale puzzles me is the Right Hand bracket signal on the end of the platform surely it in the wrong place. To my knowledge, 64 years living beside the GWR, if it controls the Junction under the bridge then it should be positioned against the bridge, but If it controls entry to Goods loop then it should be a Left Hand Bracket and the signal arm should have a white ring attached to it. Can you explain this?
Nice work upgrading the tube stock. But honestly, for a model that cost almost £400 quid when it was new, there should have been interior detail out of the box. The cabs are the worst parts because you can generally see so much of it.
I know nothing about model trains or this stuff, UA-cam suggested this for some reason but ...walls should be painted blue to give the effect it is "sky"
we filmed the interview pre-lockdown and as I mentioned in my comments it might change things. The only section in the lockdown zone is the last 3/4 mile or so into "Leicester North" and with the current plan for the station to be closed a local lockdown on that front isn't as bigger potential issue as it may first appear. Certainly more route refresher trains have entered the zone since the local lockdown has been enforced (nobody getting on or off I must add). Best advice is to keep an eye on the website and facebook page, if you're planning to travel you'll need to pre-book anyway. Hope this helps? :)
I'm a little confused about the wiring of the point at 13:30. Why have the two insulated fishplates been added to both rails of the rear running track rather than the two frog rails? Surely it would cause issues with frog polarity having it conduct from the front track regardless of point direction? I'd understand doing that for DC operation but not DCC
Considering these films are one big advert, there are way too many advert breaks for my liking. Also, a Hornby test track made from Peco track? Maybe we should all use Peco track then!!
Paint your walls blue. A cheese baguette could have gone round the track and you could have convinced me that it is a train. Blue walls, blue with clouds...
Butterly at Ripley Derbyshire has been hit with bad Vandolisim while they have been in Lockdown and now can't open till 2021 we have been told for a struggling railway that's really bad News
I dont get it the layout is to perfect is this modeling? As modeling is art and about detail whe n do you see perfect clean buildings ballast sorry hornby but it's to plastic looking
Way too many adverts, I understand the need for adverts to fund the platform, but when I got bored of them after just 20 minutes, I stopped watching. Disappointing.

Thanks as always James!

Now that's an idea, we work very closely with Airfix model world magazine. 😆
Certainly looks impressive. Thanks for sharing

Absorbing, relaxing and gorgeous ! Well done !
Great layout, I like the fact hornby track isn’t being used.....
Wonderful stuff. Thank you, Hornby.

Great to see your latest layout!!
The SLW Type 2's are beyond good. I have a two tone green, but I want a blue too.
Great hearing the Mid Suffolk Light Railway mentioned as I volunteer there.

Excellent Video!
Excellent presentation. I particularly liked the building of the industrial siding extension.
Thanks Murray
I love this video, Its a fantastic production. Great to see me firing 47406 at 47:40 too!

Very professionally done Michael, we'll have to come and see your GCR layout when it's done.

like your latest video you done thanks for sharing DD.
Great video - most enjoyable. At some point, I need to fit my LU S8 Stock with sound, I've been convinced now...Many thanks
Dude what a epic layout!
volume/sound level was a bit low on UA-cam! audio was hard to hear but train sounds seemed fine? also lips were out of sync!
We've had a few comments regarding that, was this during the premiere?
So, did the train sounds seem fine?
Looks great
Thanks!
I've got loads of these trains and I love them
Wunderbar!!💙💙💙💙
Woah!!! Amazing work!
You should see the video lol
@@hornbymag Oh i will!, from the thumbnail it looks great!

I think the train worth waiting for will be the first to have active tilt... 😊
The new Hornby APT perhaps?
The green 37 at the start with working split headcode e.t.c. wouldn't it still have its "frost grill" ???
My favourites were the scotrail HST and the RTC rake 😀😀
Oh yes, stunning locos! 👍🏻

You will very much like a model railway called ‘South Pelaw’ which models identical traffic (amongst other trains) to consett
The green class 23 diesel sounded fabulous. Which sound chip was fitted to it and will this loco be available again?
Cool, what track are you using here exactly? 😊
really smashing video 😊

Wow amazing! 19:20 Which loco is this? Is it already sound fitted?
W4 peckett, likely to be sound fitted from the factory
Love it,
What kind of locomotive is that in the very beginning? Awesome layout and awesome video. Thanks
It's a Class 37
Can you please make your content accessible by adding closed captioning? it is very hard to watch relying on only the auto captioning.
Hi Edward, I'll certainly look into that option.
Great ideas to put onto my layout 18th door adavent 2021
Very nice videoooooooOOOO.... Greetings from Spain...!!

For the benefit of viewers in North America, or those of us in UK who still use feet and inches, what are the US/UK dimensions, please?

Will the great central railway be able to reopen? Isn't there a local lockdown there?
It's always worth double checking before you visit

Our layouts setup to run both DC and DCC as a lot of test samples are only DC ready.
How did he add sound?
I've subbed.
Great video, What brand are those Signal boxes at 15:40?
They're Hornby ones if memory serves
Considering these films are one big advert, there are way too many advert breaks for my liking.
Also, a Hornby test track made from Peco track? Maybe we should all use Peco track then!!
Hornby Magazine is independently owned by Key Publishing, not Hornby directly. 😊
We should use peco track, its far better than the Hornby stuff
Paint your walls blue. A cheese baguette could have gone round the track and you could have convinced me that it is a train. Blue walls, blue with clouds...
Normally you'd be spot on, this layout is used for photo work as its first priority so white is the preferred background colour. 👍🏻
