When Satoshi set up the subunit of Bitcoin at 1 per 100 million (implying a Sat in the 1 cent - 1dollar range) for the ultimate target as monetary backup of all the economy. And the bootstrapping sequence of BTC issuance to last for 100+ years. Yes, he understood
Awesome content guys! huge fan of your channel and a huge fan of the book "The Sovereign individual". As bitcoiners, we should all be exploring this book now more than ever. Thank you!
Great conversation guys. To quote from the book on the subject raised at approximately 34:24 on page 305 "For this reason, it is expected that one or more nation-states will undertake covert action to subvert the appeal of transience. Travel could be effectively discouraged by biological warfare, such as the outbreak of a deadly epidemic. This could not only discourage the desire to travel, it could also give jurisdictions throughout the globe an excuse to seal their borders and limit immigration."
And just before that, "only the most patriotic or stupid will continue to reside in high-tax countries." :-; The passage that you highlighted is the end of a section; they don't go on to offer any insight into how these travel restrictions might be countered.
"good intentions don't render bad ideas harmless" Even a well intentioned politician will cause destruction of wealth.. eg. Minimum wage etc. Good intention, disastrous result.
I really appreciate this content. Thanks to both of you. Just finished the book on audible. Probably going to hit it again here. Can't wait to see the notes!
Extremely informative and so good to hear. I got most of it due to the elegant explanations, bravo. What you guys laid out seemed like a wonderfully logical jigsaw of a decentralised future. What a world it could be?! (once the dust settles) . Exciting times indeed.
If you remove government intervention you would revert to slavery. And you talk about the worker wanting more for less, I would argue that it's the employer that wants more for less as the worker is already giving his life. The banks and employers have created the issues we see today as they have sold out thier loyal worker for thier self interest and at all cost.
The phrase he’s looking for in the beginning, when trying to explain about the conception of ‘’violence’, is “initiation of physical force”. Any Rand originated and validated this concept in its proper form. Libertarians adopted it and use the name “Non-Aggression Principle”. Coercion & blackmail utilize the threat of initiating physical force. Limiting the power of government is mostly about limiting its activities to retaliatory, rather than initiatory, action. When a people delegates power to a government, it must only allow it a monopoly on RETALIATORY force, The initiation of physical force must be banned to all parties, even governments - especially governments - if a society is to be considered free.
Interesting discussion, thanks. There was a point in show where you mention people against BTC gravitating to FUD to say its rubbish. Eventually, buying BTC will be like putting money into your current bank account. There will be little volatility and people will think oh ok i will put that 3 Satoshi into my BTC account and the longer i leave it the more it will go up. This means the price is irrelevant. This is the return of the savings account.
22:32 “Technology is advancing much faster than our ability to understand its implications” Leaves me wondering: how to help the average world citizens understand AI, blockchain, DeFi, etc. And who knows what is next to come!
Great podcast! Now please take into consideration that if there is a desperate situation of gouvernments not being able to pay for debt, they could restrict internet to a local variant and that means that bitcoin cannot communicate when internet providers will restrict bitcoin's ports and other network patterns that could be employed to service bitcoin blockchain over the internet. The only solution here would be Tesla's sattelites. And Tesla has no incentive to block bitcoin.
The digital economy works great for the young. How does it work for the elderly, infirm and otherwise not able to be economically productive in such an economy? For example my 84 year old father can still live alone and take care of himself but is not technologically literate enough to understand what cryptocurrency is. He doesn't even have a computer.
Unprovoked aggression against person and justly owned property. Don’t hit people and don’t take their stuff, and don’t threaten to hit people and take their stuff, and don’t make people “pay to play”.
I would like to know what did you research specifically to form your analysis for this project? Very interested as I agree with you but already knew this from reading a Bible. It is spelled out exactly as you present it! However it goes beyond you to explain the future to the end of time. I'm a 74 year old with family of all ages who debate this subject from our individual age perspectives. I came up in the Catholic church which I denounce along with all Organized religions. But I believe in one Loving God who created us All and wants us to honor Him by Loving and caring for each other in Peace not war and greed!!! Thank you and I hope you will take the time to answer my question in a comment.
I'm sorry this all didn't happen when I was younger. It would have been a privilege to belong to a group of people who didn't give a shit for their neighbors. Every person for their-self is such a beautiful way to live.
All other things being equal, non-natives should be able find and host their own speakers. Hopefully a Bitcoin Standard will obviate the need for such exceptionalist interventions in the guise of semitical correctness.
Please give me an adress where I can send Robert a microphone !! One of the individual with an immense knowledge on the subject but damnn you are hard to listen on speaker. (im serious for the donation btw)
Digital nomad sounds like your best bet Peter. If you’re slagging off the UK and want to move, you can’t have much more than 1% of the rest of the world’s countries to move to that would be less oppressive.
He cites Mises. Cool. But Carson and Chartier do great work on ways in which the employer-employee relationship can be coercive. Moving away from the fairly callus and insensitive reply that “it’s incumbent upon the employee to develop the skill set to move on” but he’s correct that the bilateral coercion so to speak only exists in an intervened-in framework.
Calling it “callous” is a cheap and shallow way to interpret it. He didn’t imply that situation was fantastic and wonderful, he’s merely pointing out the alternatives one has in that situation.
You often hear libertarian bitcoiners look at charts that show wage growth isn’t keeping track with inflation, blaming the fiat system for this. Then they also argue that we shouldn’t raise the minimum wage. This seems like they are arguing both sides. Wouldn’t it make sense to do a minimum wage hike in a fiat system, even if they don’t believe in it in a sound money system?

Satoshi was seriously inspired. We need to give more credit to energy here to help us which we do not see. In this regard, it could be your son who would tell you best what Bitcoin is. It is a save the world moment. Natural Law is right. That's why it will save the world. The Universe gave us this new hand which Satoshi was dealt and shared with us. People attached to it is a deeper truth than Bitcoin itself. It is our ticket to ride. Finally. Inclusive.
The problem with the distinction these guys are making between ‘the state’ and ‘free market’ is (as Ayn Rand implicitly found out, when she couldn’t find her John Galt in the real world) that the mentality that wins in the market is the same mentality that wins in politics. The leaders in both worlds are, and must be, sociopaths. Thus the violence/non-violence, moral/immoral distinctions are moot points to these people. What matters is winning and only winning: and the motivation is pure nacissism. Free market leaders will use violence to achieve their ends if necessary: if the government is not available, free market forces will be assembled. I am gonna coin this faulty market/politics distinction: the “RandGalt fallacy.”
Wage payments are a source of contention for working class Americans whos jobs are being "stolen" by someone(probably latin American or Asian) that is cheaper and more productive ( sounds like Capitalism to me), but capitalist Americans can't have that, so demand the government so something. They blame the immigrants, not capitalism, not the corporation that hired them. In short, individuals love the ideas of capitalism more than the practice. Don't get me wrong I'm a capitalist, but we have to be realistic about it and manage our expectations
I think Breedlove is a smart dude, but like most libertarians: his ideas are overly idealistic. For example, unemployment is not a consequence of government policy, it's a requirement of capitalism. There are "healthy" and "unhealthy" levels, but it could never be 0%. I also think libertarians conveniently omit the power dynamics within 'free markets'. The reality is that corporations cut corners, and exploit their labour forces, and the larger they get( more share holders) they more exploitive they become, because their only loyalty is the money. This is why people unionized. Safety, compensation, employee welfare are never a concern for corporate interest until employees threaten to walk; but why does it even get to that point? Because it's a system of winners and losers
I hate to be this guy, but can we get Breedlove to start using an actual microphone? Most of his interviews sound like shit. He sounds like he's speaking from a storm drain. Love ya
