If you have a smartphone, internet and the ability to understand English, you can literally be in the classroom of an MIT lecture on Bitcoin/Blackchain. What a world! Thank You!
Welcome to the future.
It’s amazing!
Amazing right? We can also be extra efficient by speeding up the video.
@@Soturtz and also, I can go back a few seconds, if I didn't get it right.. I love it!
Knowledge is becoming more pervasive. So what's the difference between a MIT registered student and the learner online? Only diploma?
I am a poor person from Brazil that had to learn English to understand this video. Thanks to it - although I don't have money to pay for MIT tuition - I am watching a full class by MIT from my house in South America. Thanks for democratizing knowledge.
Man seeing this stuff makes me happy.
Best of luck in your career man! The fact that you're smart enough to know how powerful the internet is and have the will to utilize it, you're already doing better than most
MIT and top universities in the US in general have some of the best financial aid in the world. Don't let money stop you.
You have fantastic English! My goodness.
What a wonderful times we live in! I am poor person from Uganda, I have to drink from the puddles and eat from gutters, but thanks to amazing people from MIT and UA-cam I can basically graduate from MIT and became a crypto developer! THANK YOU FROM AFRICA!!!!

Thank you kind sir
Ty this realy helpful
21:00 bought 2 pizza for 10,000 BTC now worth 581,233,144.24 USD. Let's see how this ages in the years to come.
It is fascinating to take this class in the year 2021 knowing what has happened in the crypto space since 2018. And big thank you to MIT for making this knowledge available to the world free of charge. That's unbelievable generosity.
thats what happens when you care more about the world becoming more educated versus keeping an old boys club of information to centralize information and profits.
what course is this
Right? Lol I wish I saw it then, id be set. But I'm glad I have it now
When you consider what this class cost this student body.
@@TK-gd9td They get the best and the brightest without effort anyway, i.e., even if they gave most or all of their lectures away for free, young people and professors alike would still be lining up to join MIT
Gary Gensler mentions a book for the class and the guy who wrote the book is sitting in that class as a student... WOW MIT is on another level
♻️
he kept mentioning the name 'Elon' 44:40 if I didn't hear wrong, is that the Tesla guy Elon?
And “Larry” is also a professor from Harvard attending his course so that’s a pretty good recommendation the course is worthwhile. 🥦🦖
@@uranuss no different guy he’s talking bout the owner of toys R us Elon Tusk
What time stamp is that?
The world is your library if you want to learn. Unbelievable is the age we live in getting free education from MIT. This sets you apart MIT. Well Done!!
Knowledge is free always has been. I guess with the amount of ego that won’t allow free thought to happen that’s another whole thing
a lot of quality universities are offering free courses helping many people arounfd the world.
There is no free lunches. If you think otherwise... YOU are the lunch.
I still can not believe I take an entire blockchain course from MIT fo free, unbelievable. I can not thank enough MIT.
Well, you can catch a Lecture, possibly a few different lectures, which I agree is Awesome! Any info, especially free info, extra Especially really good free info... Is ALWAYS welcomed and sincerely appreciated.
However, it is definitely lacking compared to taking the class for real. You miss other things like tests, mid terms and finals... All are a Pain in the ass, however it accounts for a significant amount of the information a student will aquire, as the average student will spend 2-3 times the amount of time studying for Mid-terms and Finals, than the average study period. Which accounts for about 1/3 of the information learned in the class.
Also, we don't have the benefit of the assigned Texts or Syllabus (if he assigns one.. though there's probably not much reading for this class).
@@blahblah6497 Visit the course MIT OpenCourseWare for the Syllabus and a list of Readings at: ocw.mit.edu/15-S12F18. We try to get other materials from the instructors (like exams). We publish what they are willing to give us. Best wishes on your studies!
@@vladyslavbandrovsky9202 No, the terms of MIT courseware say that knowledge I your reward, you won't be given any credit or degree
@@vladyslavbandrovsky9202 fuck a diploma just start something and make your own money
@@vladyslavbandrovsky9202 i don't think so, usually to receive a certificate or diploma you would need someone to verify your work = someone needs to get paid.
Not sure if there is a possibility to sign up for a paid online course
here 3 years after this has been posted. a lot has changed
Fun Fact: This professor got sworn in today as the SEC chairman. pretty cool
Happy Bitcoin Pizza day!
That is awesome!!
Thank you for this fun fact.
HES SO COOL. !!!!!!!!!!!
That's gotta be huge for crypto
Tell me why I pay tens of thousands for an education yet this lecture is far more stimulating then any I’ve attended at my institution...
sounds like you are using the wrong tools
Good question. Lmk if anyone answers it for you
Exactly...
because you didn't get in to MIT?
and you can’t get called on
It’s interesting going back to this video to see Prof Gensler talk about financial sector problems and blockchain opportunities and now see all crypto lending platforms and exchanges that participate in staking under fire. Oh, don’t forget XRP too.
Im barely a high school graduate now I’m taking courses at MIT. #KnowledgeisPower
Keep watching videos like this and you'll have a education for free.
❤
So thankful for this class. I wish I saw it back in 2018 but February 2022 is blessed enough! So grateful! I'm sharing this with everyone! This is such a solid foundation
I'm so thankful to be able to study this course online, here from Brazil. Thank you so much, MIT.
No way. This channel just has everything! Thank you so much for having this content for free and for the world
I felt like I am in the room. How grateful I am for encountering this channel. Many thanks to MIT and Gary Gensler.
This is grace that found me , I'm gonna put my best to understand Blockchain here. indeed distance is no longer barrier. God blessed the people that set up this online class for Blockchain
Who’s here after Gary is trying to regulate tf out of cryptocurrency?
*slowly raises hand*
Me!!!
I am here to see Secretary in his formative years.
🤣
yep
A year after viewing this course and the FTC, SVB and Credit Suisse failures, I have retained the following.
1. A distributed accounting ledger is created that does not require a central responsible owner.
2. An system of creating an increasing but limited number of tokens allows users to agree on value through a market, so it can be used as money, a store of value and a medium of exchange.
3. Combining these two allows the creation of competing systems that may have the promise of lower transaction costs and perhaps less government control than other forms of tender.
3. In it's infancy, significant challenges remain. I term these infancy risk, promise risk and unknowns risk.
I wish I had a teacher like Gensler. Easy to absorb, concise, follow thru, topics etc ... excellent.
You could be watching TV 📺 ,but instead you are here , so if you found this channel , you at the right place, I stayed thru the whole 1:02:03 👍
It's such an amazing video to come across. Watching from Nairobi in Kenya, and this type of content.....isn't easy to come across from this side of the continent. Thank you.
Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will.
You never regret trying something you always regret not trying something
Damn. Getting hit with some real shit in the MIT UA-cam video comment section. 🤔
What an extraordinary opportunity to be able to access literally world-class lectures for free at your fingertips...the times we live in, just mind-blowing! - massive respect for MIT for sharing these lecture series with the world!
An MIT education is the absolute best education money can buy. Honored to have my undergrad degree.
This is great. i didn't have the grades for MIT back in the day, but it is nice to be able to have access to some of the educational experiences. Thank you!
Wow...thanks for sharing! Can’t thank MIT enough for generously sharing such amazing series!
Who knew one day Gary would be the one approving spot Bitcoin ETF
Lots of love from Nepal for making this level of quality education free of cost.....It enlightens the soul of plenty of underprivileged students
This is probably one of the most important lectures for everyone to see.
Let me thank MIT for this wonderful lecture by soft-spoken n intelligent prof.
Also I must thank you tube for making things possible for me to gain valuable n immense knowledge for free!!
Thank you MIT. Been looking for the best course to teach me about the BC technology. Prof Gary has me hooked.
Interesting insights. I’m here both because of his public appearances to regulate crypto and to just learn where he stood at one time.
I just played this out loud so my parents would think I'm still in class. Got my one hour nap in. Thanks!
😂😂😂 Genuis
😂😂
Who else are watching this at the end of 2022? I'm so grateful for this video and opportunity.
It’s so enjoyable to listen to this professor, he has great speech skills
These lectures are brilliant. Please post more like these.
Finally a head of the SEC who sees the future ☺ wish I had a professor like him.
I love how this guy brought up transactions/s. A lot of newbie crypto investors make the mistake of FOMO'ing into Bitcoin or Ethereum when there are cryptocurrencies like Cardano that far surpass them in transaction load. There's still so much to discover about crypto, man I'm fired up! Great lecture on blockchain for beginners
Thank you for making these freely available.
Appreciate the interaction between the students and the professor in order to set up his slide. This is something that seems to be common place in US higher education. It keeps the course lively.
Here in the EU, many maintain the idea of writing down what you see on a presentation, and having work on slides -> memorize and dig in if you have time.
It works but interaction is lacking. Notice how he asks for the first name? These are tiny details that make a difference when you are in the audience. I've been taught by both systems.
In many US class there is a focus on discussion and is considered a better class when students are more interactive
Great lecturer, personable, informative and well versed, looking forward to the rest of them!
Im so thankful for this opportunity. I remember being devastated bc i had to drop out due to financial problems. Brilliant professor!
This type of content really levels the playing field, Thanks
Absolutely fantastic . Thank you team MIT OCW for uploading .
Thank you MIT for having a lecture free. It is a aspiration for all young tech savvy Indians to be part of MIT
No money can buy you such great teachers and course...it's just possible with MIT, thankyou so much.
I hope I get in. I really enjoyed my interview and I always feel so comfortable watching these incredible lessons. I really just SERIOUSLY hope that come next year this is my life.
what a fantastic teacher, really enjoying this lecture.
ótima aula dando uma visão geral de como o movimento e a tecnologia começou, já tinha ouvido a história do m-pesa através de um colega de trabalho que veio do Kenya.
Love this guys knowledge, delivery of the subject and general charisma!
Thanks MIT for posting this excited course.
I can't believe the chairman of SEC is teaching us here! Thats crazy!
Thanks MIT for the course. Welcome to Kenya, the motherland of mobile mobile
It's now 2022 and it is still interesting and actual. Thanks for publishing!
i am very grateful for this. i was looking at MIT courses but honestly price was prohibitive for me. i was dreaming for this course. Thank you, really.
Wow! Are we learning this lecture for free? How cool is this! I mean in few years I am listening about blockchains, crypto, "mathematical puzzles" etc this video has stunned me with such knowledge. Thanks for uploading this video. It's absolutely Gold!
Really happy we have a extremely smart person like Gary heading the SEC in these times. Good luck Gary.
@A E You are using populist catchall terms. If you are going to criticize Gary please be specific.
Absolutely. Fully in agreement
Famous last words
Potentially one of the most valuable free videos on UA-cam.
I'm really glad that such lectures exist on UA-cam
I'm learning Blockchain from the Chairman of the SEC
Excellent lesson, thank you for the free access MIT. Very educational and honoured that I could be educated for free.
This is amazing. An outstanding Professor indeed, I'm hooked to the subject!
Internet is liberating education and making it accessible to anyone who wishes to learn, truly, can't believe it though easily! Such high-quality content is accessible to anyone from any corner of the world. These were the privilege of a select few until recent times. Thanks for sharing.
This is a very good course! Just wish more people understood the importance blockchain technology solving a lot of the financial issues around the world
Mr. Gary Gensler I loved your teachings. Thank you and MIT so much !!
Damn. Now as of today the 10,000 pizzas is 348M. Continues to prove its value year after year. Such an amazing video. This professor is incredible. So much information. Thanks!
Thankyou MIT for the value you give in these free lectures its opened my eyes to bitcoin and world of finance.
This is awesome, amazing quality courses and forfree, thank you! I started to doubt my uni content
I hope Mr. Gensler keeps his intellectual integrity and not let the politics kill crypto currencies. Blockchain and blockchain enabled ecosystem are still in its early stage. Yes there will be fraud and failures, but what makes USA a leader is the tolerance of new things.
13 years and no use cases beyond offering financial products that are regulation free. At what point can we say we're not in the early stages and that the window to prove usefulness has closed?
one of the greatest questions to ask students what you want to achieve on this semester.
I stumbled on this by accident, Mr. Gensler himself lecturing computer engineers, mind blowing. We’re in good hands finally, crypto enthusiasts...i feel like he’s talking about xrp!!! #xrp0doubt
Amazing, I enjoyed every minute of this class.
Wow MIT has amazing teachers 👨🏫
Stunningly Good. If you are new to Blockchain or Crypto and confused (don’t understand how it thinks) watch this! Over and over until you catch it. Different but not that complicated.
Fabulous content, stupendous teacher, great format (MIT interactive lecture class). Thank you!!!
Amazing that this content is available for free. What a time to be alive!
Thank you so much. The lecture was truly awesome. 👌 Am really looking forward to completing the rest in the months ahead.
Thank you so very much Prof. Gary Gensler, you have many of my questions.
This course is really interesting, i started since 6 November 2021, turned it to audio and I'm currently on the 10th lecture. Wish i got to watch the course earlier tho
Fascinating to listen to Gensler lecture in 2018 in light of his more recent comments on crypto in the real world.
Gensler just enjoying the comment section , this is gonna be gold !
This guy seems like the real deal.. he is going to change things for our financial system
Quand un professeur a une hauteur de vue, ses cours deviennent de suite très agréables. Il y a aussi le fait qu’il ne mette pas de barrière avec ses étudiants et souhaite leur participation 👌😌
Why you gotta be writing comments in French and really be making me use my brain?!
By the way, a good and clear translation would be nice.
@@lindavaca3321 If you still want a translation :
When a professor have a good overall view his course become instantly very pleasant. There's also the fact that he don't put barricade with his students and is happy to make them participate
Amazing. Being a good teacher/speaker is a gift.
It sure is. Gary is exceptional, engaging, and seems like such a nice guy.
This is really impressive, thank you for making this accessible to everyone
This teacher looks really awesome! I feel blessed to have found this video!
I'm so grateful that I'm able to study this course from New Delhi, India. This is such an amazing initiative to transfer such great and informative couse on cryptocurrenncy that too ,completely free. Thank you so much. My enjoying it a lot. Prof Gary Gensler made it fun and interesting
It's great that the chairman of the SEC is crypto literate. Our investments are safe
They are not safe, most crypto’s will not survive regulation in my opinion our investments are only safe if you invest in cryptos with utility and will be used dont follow price follow fundamentals. Im in for the long term not short term
ummm, watch the hearings of the case of ripple and you will be dissapointed. very.
Funds are SAFU
Bitcoin is safe....the rest might not be

Gary Gensler is the man. Thanks for sharing because its my dream to be in one of this guys classes
I didn't know anything about Mr. Gensler until I heard that he was being nominated to take over the SEC. I'm new to cryptocurrency! I'm impressed with his demeanor, style! and amiable teaching style! I would have loved to have been in some of his classes! After watching this I'm glad that he's now heading up the SEC because we NEED someone who understands money AND cryptocurrencies!
For those complaining... come on! just turn it off and move on and take your negativity with you. We can poke holes in anybody and anything all day long! THANK YOU MIT- this is extraordinary stuff and production value is HIGH. I appreciate this immensely and feel like I owe Gary some BTC now for lessons. Its great to see the Head of the SEC in academic environment. GREAT CONTENT!
What do you think about of him now?
Very impressed with Mr Gensler, he comes across as very competent and his knowledge and understanding of Cryptocurrency & Blockchain has to be good for the industry as he leads out the SEC, don't let us down Mr Gensler!!!
Thank you MIT and Prof. Gary Gensler for this lecture
OMG. Usually I don't say anything but I am really grateful that I could access to this great lecture series. :)
At 38:25 he reveals Robinhood commercializing the order flow of the little guys... forgot to say : "to a darkpool so they can front run your with HFT and shaft you hard"
I disabled the gold account, now I have to transfer it to a proper brokarage. Thank you for reminding me!
This is absolutely astounding that MIT can tap the Chairman of the SEC to teach Blockchain to kids (who are undoubtedly clever, but don't seem to know what 'Finance' is , or 'http', or 'how do we form up for the group assignment'). What an amazing lecturer!
I believe that the return of any investment is directly proportional to the risk, so I prefer to choose projects with low risk
He became chairman 3 years after this lecture. MIT didn't 'tap' the chairman.
Education and info is everywhere. Thank you MIT.
Thanks for making this free MIT, really appreciate it! Simon Nash, London, England :-)
