Small Kitchen Makeover - Turning Your Rental Kitchen Into An Aesthetic & Functional Space
Of all the rooms in this house, the kitchen was the most difficult to do a renter friendly makeover. With this makeover, we wanted to keep the kitchen not just minimal and functional but also aesthetic. Adding further constraints of rental friendly and a small budget, this turned out one of the most challenging projects. However, the effort was well worth it considering the outcome and in this video, I cover how we went about it.
With some easy to use, budget friendly & renter friendly products, we were able to transform the kitchen into an inspiring space to do our daily chores & cooking. Also, kitchens don't only have to be functional spaces; you can also add pops of colour & design to it! In this video, I have included some DIY ideas and several renter friendly products to make the kitchen more aesthetic without affecting the functional aspects.

The contact paper on the countertops really worked wonders. Seriously considering that hack now, as even our kitchen has very dark granite counters.

Thank you Subarna, there are wall tile stickers and flooring ones too but we only did the countertop as we didn't want to splurge either! But like you said just this makes so much difference, you should try it too!

No words Anusha! Brilliant,elegant and beautiful! Wish I could get some tips from you regarding my kitchen .. I am not able to figure out which corner to start , will it be ' too much decor'?, Will it look cluttered, will it look aesthetic?...

I personally think less is more in the kitchen as once the cooking starts especially if the kitchen is small it looks less aesthetic and more cluttered so you want more space to actually cook rather than simply sit pretty... best way to actually add colour is in say the storage used like transparent jars, nice cutlery, maybe hang some nice wooden spoons... organise the counter top with a tray, add a small vase with flowers or a live plant... and do up any one of the walls with something if you can..art frames or plates or baskets...do it in small steps like just the countertop around the stove area first.

Thank You! I went through all 3 types; Synthetic hi-gloss paint, Acrylic and Chalk...easiest to maintain is Synthetic Hi-Gloss, super smooth so easy to clean, Chalk paint is second best very nice classy finish, Acrylic was the most messy, kept sticking and peeling off...also a dirt magnet...

I got it from Shein here in Singapore, unfortunately couldn't find anything like that on Amazon India that's why we gave the marble pattern link...

Hi watched the video almost 10 times to give a make over to my kitchen. It's so good.
Just one question, did you peel off the contact paper on the counter top before leaving Singapore and if yes.. did it leave any marks on the counter top.
It is so heartening to know that you found the video so useful, thank you for letting me know! I did peel off the contact paper and it did leave patches of adhesive on the granite which was super easy to clean with either dish soap or a bit of acetone ... just a 5 minute job really and no damage :)

Is that works well & maintainance is it easy? Pls if u share it would be helpful.
Thanks a lot 😊 However, this is a rented apartment so the steel hob came with the place and I have no idea with regards to the brand or how long it's been here... it does work without an issue and maintenance is the same as with glass tops definitely more work than the older burner stoves...

I really like how you designed. But what happened if we put something heat products or utensils on it. If it burns?
Yes, so fresh off the stove like hot oil I would place on a silicone mat, otherwise the sheet is heat resistant and I personally had no issues with it... but obviously granite / stone and wood countertops are more ideal in the long run.

Those plates are from Daiso, purchased from Singapore. You might be able to get at a local shop where they sell ceramic pots etc

There was no wet and dry kitchen area really, so we treated like it was entirely wet kitchen and we didn't face much issues... unsure how it will last beyond the period of a year though...
