    I’m a newer pokemon fan, and I LOVE new pokemon snap. I didn’t have access to video games as a kid and never knew the anime existed, so when I played new pokemon snap I’d only played 2 pokemon games, both as an adult (SuMo, and SwSh). New pokemon snap introduced me to tons of pokemon I’d never even heard of before, and I feel that it made me way more attached to them than I would have been if I’d just slowly played the backlog of games I’d missed. The first illumina spot was my first introduction to Meganium, and it was AWESOME, just this giant glowing flower dinosaur, and then the game just kept getting cooler. I gained a fondness for pokemon I’d never seen before because I felt like I was getting to know them, observing them in the wild, and that’s gone on to influence which games I chose to play next (I played X because I was so impressed by illumina Xerneas lol). I would sell my soul for more DLC, or a sequel that’s not on rails.

      New pokemon snap open world sequel that takes 10 years to develop is my dream. One of my favourite moments was when I was on a quest to find every vivillon form, and I finally managed to complete every intricate step in elsewhere forest to get the last one I needed. The area you go to is so beautiful, and despite having already had more than 50 hours in the game I had never seen it before.

      Yeah, it’s crazy how many areas and secrets you can find in new snap. I read so many negative reviews claiming the game had nothing to find and I was shocked. Like, did we even play the same game?! And as another commenter pointed out, a fully open world snap title is not doomed if the developer is actually skilled - which was the case for new snap (developed by bandai namco). So there’s hope for us snap fans!

    Playing the new pokemon snap made me feel like a kid again. I hella played the original back in the day! I remember renting it at family video before I got my own copy.
    I was disappointed about there not being any evolving in the new one at first and I still wish for it every time I see a magikarp especially. Aside from that being my only negative for the game, I enjoyed so much more. I was excited to play each level and unlock the new routes, the night time routes, etc. Even if it gets repetitive it just reminds me how many days and hours I spent looking forward to what else I'd find. It's the best looking pokemon game on the switch too.
    But man, I fell out of the main pokemon games after x and y. I think the only way for me to jump back on would be if they decided to go back to pixels. I've seen some amazing pixel art that people make and every time I truly wished for pokemon to continue in that direction over what it's become now. Or even in the style Octopath Traveler is!! Such a heavily missed opportunity!
    Sorry this turned into a rant lol

    I think if the exp point thresholds weren't so high in New Pokemon Snap, going back and replaying that game would be a lot more fun. It really sucks getting so close to leveling up an area and being like a couple points away! Like you said, the repetition is the worst part about it. But when it's so short like the original N64 game, I can go back and replay it any time. I love both old and new Snap, and I hope an eventual third game is the perfect culmination of the two. They're beautiful, mysterious, whimsical, relaxing, and entertaining games that give a glimpse into the Pokemon world we don't usually get to see.

    • @prezmer
      @prezmer  4 місяці тому +3

      Yeah, that’s something I should have mentioned but didn’t even realize until now: how many points you needed to level up an area. Some were excessive, which I understand given each pokémon has 4 poses and over 12k potential points in total but given you can only submit one photo at a time you really were expected to grind for those levels. But again, it’s not something I minded due to how fascinating everything was. Like you, I really hope we see more. Thank you for watching, and for your comment!

    I feel like the reason why pokemon snap works is similar to the same reason people prefer monster hunter world over rise. Any fantasy world that focus on mystical creatures or monsters or whatever you call them, inevitably faces the question ''ok, but what if these creatures DID exist, and had some form of biological relationship between each other?'' How would they behave, how would they eat, hell WHAT would they eat. Pokemon snap focuses exclusevly on exploring that side of the pokemon world, altough at times in a limited way (TBF you're not going to pull gyarados shredding the living shit out other pokemon in a kids game). Much like monster hunter world does, where you can the ''monsters'' acting the way you'd imagine they would in real life, like normal animals.

    • @prezmer
      @prezmer  4 місяці тому +5

      Yeah, exactly! Pokémon Snap just offers us the chance to see pokémon as they behave in the wild, which is really damn cool if you ask me. I genuinely don't think any other game in the series comes close to doing what Snap does in that regard - though I imagine the manga and anime probably do. It's also nice to see I'm not the only one who prefers World to Rise lmao. I played Rise for some 5 hours and stopped, meanwhile World is upwards of 100

    • @yurei4414
      @yurei4414 4 місяці тому +1

      Peole prefer world over Rise just because they're blinded by bias because it's the first game they played and because the graphics aren't as good... you're overstimating the monster hunter fanbase a lot

    • @jeffreyprice9790
      @jeffreyprice9790 4 місяці тому +1

      Rise is a better game than world tbh. Iceborne makes it interesting but base games compared its not particularly close imo. World is alot prettier but that's about it

    Something i do really like about this game is that even if you've already completed the photodex, you can still have fun trying to find as many interactions as possible. A good example of this is the several mythical Pokémon that show up in the postgame, each of them has a second 4-star pose that's usually way more hidden than the main one you'll usually see in videos and such, like Celebi flying around a lake or Mew taking a nap with some Morelull. My only issue is that the game is very unclear on if these even exist? I've spent over a year searching for Jirachi's and i don't even know if it exists, i've also seen pictures of Xerneas sniffing that one flower near the mural that i cannot for the life of me recreate on either level 1 or 2.

    • @prezmer
      @prezmer  4 дні тому

      That's a good point! Some photo opportunities are so incredibly rare that I'm not quite sure they even exist either. Getting them all has got to be a completionist's nightmare lmao.

    • @Blastosie_Offical
      @Blastosie_Offical 4 дні тому

      Honestly, imagine being the devs, programming in hundreds, if not thousands of extremely specific interactions for the sake of making the world feel more alive, only for only around a miniscule amount of them to be discovered 3 years later

    • @prezmer
      @prezmer  4 дні тому

      @@Blastosie_Offical It might not be the best feeling if you're a developer but as a consumer, that shows a lot of love for the product they're making, you know? Like, if you're bothering to spend however many days or weeks are needed to implement a niche interaction, it's solely because you love the game and want it to be the best possible. If it was just about the money, they wouldn't spend time on stuff like that. This is the sorta reason I really appreciate the snap series.

    I think the world they used in Legends Arceus is the way to go. Different closed off maps to travel to. They can add more detail but still have an open world feel. Especially if they’re going to insist on making weak consoles it’s the only option they have to avoid performance issues. Sc&Vi are embarrassing for the one of the “most profitable companies” in the world. Also the fact that this spinoff game has voice acting and the main series still doesn’t is ridiculous too.

    • @prezmer
      @prezmer  4 місяці тому +4

      The legends style maps might be a good compromise, yeah. Somehow though I feel that the devs can't pull off a game like this in even that semi-open world - and that's IF we even get another snap game, which I somehow doubt. Still waiting for a new ranger title...
      And I hadn't even realized what you mentioned about voice acting but yeah, you have a point! The situation for the main games becomes worse the more we think about it lmao

  • @EmL-kg5gn

    When I first heard of pokemon snap I honestly wrote it off because the whole idea of pokemon is to catch them all and you can’t do that. But after some of the recent games being so poorly made that I wouldn’t even buy them secondhand I became curious about snap because I could easily tell that the graphics would be better. Which doesn’t make a good game but it did make me wonder if it wasn’t so rushed! I’ve seen this and one other video on it and I think I’d actually love it. I love seeing the pokemon walk around in let’s go and arceus and I’m quite patient so the repetition won’t bother me, mainstream pokemon is repetitive anyway. While it’s a huge shame that there’s no shinies and the limits on the photos you can submit is annoying, it seems like actual care and time were put into snap and I think that’s what makes a game worth playing in the end! Tysm for explaining why you love this game

    • @prezmer
      @prezmer  3 місяці тому +2

      Oh yeah, you can definitely feel the care and love the developers had for this title. The example with the mightienas proves is just one of many that show this love. It’s a bit different from arceus and let’s go because here you’re stuck in a cart and can’t move freely, but if what you like most really is watching the pokémon do their thing then yeah, this is definitely an experience you’ll like. If you want a test drive though and you have nintendo switch online + expansion pack, the original snap plays very similar to the new one and it’s available in the Nintendo 64 emulator on switch! Regardless, if you do pick the game up, I genuinely hope you enjoy it! Thank you so much for your comment!

    I think that the best thing about Pokemon Snap is that it makes the Pokemon themselves alive. We finally get to experience them not as just a bunch of monsters that attack each other, but as actual, living beings who exist in nature.
    Which is why a lot of people would be drawn to it. We all wanna know more about our favorite monsters, we all want to feel like they're alive.
    Which is one of my biggest gripes with the current sprites in SV. They're so...lifeless. The sprites before the 3ds era were full of life and attention, giving you the impression that this wasn't just some png slapped on a field, even if it was, back in gens 1-4.

    • @prezmer
      @prezmer  4 місяці тому +1

      Yeah, agreed. Just being able to see what our favorite pokémon act like in the wild is something I don't think any other game really gives us, at least not to Snap's extent. I'll always love the Snap games for that. Fully agreed with SV too. The most we see is a question mark or a pokémon charging or running from us or sleeping... while most just ignore us. Regardless, most of them behave in one of very few preset behaviours (you could see the poochyena charging me in the snippet I used for SV) and, given how varied they are and how intricate their dex entries are, it's a proper shame none of that is reflected in their overworld behaviour. Not holding my breath regarding seeing an improvement to this either.

      Sorta! That game is an open world with catching mechanics, while this is an on rails experience (meaning you can't move anything but your view/camera) in which you interact only by using your camera, tossing items or slightly changing your environment. But if what you liked in Arceus was seeing pokémon roaming around then this definitely goes more in-depth into their behaviour

    • @prezmer
      @prezmer  3 місяці тому +1

      I guess whatever grinding there is in the main games is tends to be limited to the end and varied enough for these folks, while snap has you running through the same stage over and over, even if it leads to different outcomes sometimes. It doesn’t make much sense to me either but that’s the logic I see parroted around

    It doesn’t matter how much money you have if you lack the still required to create a masterpiece. Bandai Namco has a history of developing better games than anything Game Freak has done.
    I know people who can buy a multimillion dollar cello, but they won’t play anywhere close to my level.

    • @prezmer
      @prezmer  4 місяці тому +2

      Very fair point! And to be honest, something I should have mentioned in the video but didn’t is that Bandai can probably pull off a fully open world snap. Gamefreak certainly can’t. I’m still wary because the entire on rails structure makes it easier to craft intricate worlds around it but a fully open world can be done. Whether or not pokémon company is willing to give Bandai the buckets of money needed for that though is another story… and I specify bandai because as you mentioned, no amount of money will help if a potential open world snap is developed by gamefreak
