Nice work. But, don't you need a permit to do this kind of renovation/ improvement? The permit is what I'm concern with, I think. Either have a permit changes, or risk not being able to sell the house later. Then you need to change back before selling the house when no permit? Any expert builder in here? Also permit fee is not chump change, right?
You closed off a walkway to make a larger pantry? Do you have two other walkways to the kitchen? Does building code in your county require at least two walkways to/from the kitchen?
So that entrance that was there to &from the dining room & kitchen was closed off? In sure that's not the only one, I'm just curious if that's what they did.

Your workmanship A+. But from a design perspective you changed the whole energy/chi in that kitchen by walling off that indirect light coming from that room. That area looks a little sad and uninviting without natural light now, like a cooking cutter apartment. Sorry it's the designer in me. Don't be offended by my opinion. 🙏
Not offended, you are correct that it slightly darkened the space. We think the functionality made up for that. Our plan is to redo this space with lighter materials (we didn’t pick these finishes) and to reconfigure to lose the small half wall blocking the window on the right side of the space. That’s just going to be a $$$ project so we have to work to it.

Many countries are very lucky to have all the house wooden-made. Here in Italy we have concrete all over and it's impossibile to do it so easily and in such a short time... 😬🤌

Why would I need a permit to expand our pantry? We didn’t touch anything load bearing if that’s what you’re concerned about.

No, building code does not require two ways for a kitchen. But we have another way in, it’s open concept on the other side
