the author does like to from scratch, shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ as another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us dont have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we wont be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.

Many of us slowly collect the higher priced equipment for more options but this can be done with more basic tool by purchasing cabinet boards and some cheap hand tools. Most woodworkers started with less. We start with a drill and skill saw usually and work our way up (either saving long term or selling projects to make money for tools) garages sales and fb marketplace are also options for cheaper tools. Don’t feel discouraged when you see people with nice equipment because as nice as it is, its not required (just makes things faster and easier) but the learning happens from all the struggles

Just a suggestion, for the inside of the door where you see all of the pocket holes, you can buy maple plugs to glue into those holes to hide them, it makes the project look that much better and more finished

LOVE what you said at the end! I raised my three kids telling them that... Do what you can with what you know and it's wonderful to make "mistakes". Miss take. Missed that take on it. Missed the try. Didn't match what you were going for. It's so fun to re-try and learn. It's one thing to learn from a book or video and another thing altogether to learn while doing it. Invaluable. Thank you!

I think one additional item you could add would be to insert a magnet at the top of the door to assist in keeping it closed since there does not appear to be a latch or catch on the frame. Other than that, great video.

One of my biggest wishes right now is simply to have a garage to work in. Right now all my projects are being done on the side of a house in the sun. Any tool I need needs to be carried out and back to store. A dedicated build space is the dream.

I have a recessed area in my kitchen that is currently being used for the water heater. Getting a tankless and sending that puppy outside to open this space up for built in cabinets. Unfortunately it’s up against the exterior wall next to a protruding door frame, so I can’t slide anything in, but you gave me a few ideas I definitely want to use now. Thank you for this great video and what a beautiful family! God bless.

    Couple of questions.
    1. Think about putting a piece of white pine trim along that top behind the door to close up that gap above the shelving unit?
    2. I know it is on the inside of the door, but thoughts on trimming out the backside of the door just to cover the pocket holes and add just a bit more rigidity to the door?
Overall, that is a great build. Our panty is about the same, but a bit wider and it is such a pain to see things because it is so deep and dark. I may be doing something like this in ours. Great video. Keep up the great work.

Just a thought I’m pretty sure when adding electrical you need to get it inspected by a electrician before closed off the wall or in the event a fire happen your insurance won’t cover

    • @michaelkotula7088
      @michaelkotula7088 3 роки тому

Oh please! Adding an electrical box is not rocket science. Yes if your an idiot, and can't look at UA-cam to see how it is done, don't add the box or hire an electrician. I am guessing their are many sub-contractor that don't get a permit for some of those small jobs that require electrical work.

I love the renovation and wish I had the guts and money to do similar with our pantry well actually our pantry is about same size I would like to rip it out and make an addition onto the back of the house making it a real walk in pantry losing 2 windows we don’t use any way but I’ve actually been sick and unable to finish couple other projects I started so until I can make some real money and am well enough to finish these other projects I can still dream even though you lost some space you made the usable space functional and you waste less food for sure in our old house we had a pantry cabinet with slide out and most of our cabinets had slide out drawers which I miss very much ❤😂I love how you make it look so easy thank you for sharing all your tips and tricks

Nice job. Things I would have done differently: make the 2nd shelf a pullout drawer (I'm tall), give more space above the first 2 pullouts below the coffee shelf for taller items, like oil bottles, etc., put a solid door on - no slats.

Nice job Max! I did a similar thing but didn't want to loose shelf space so I just used the existing shelving and freed them up putting them on rollers with a minimal barrier across the back to keep things from falling off when pulled out. I get the idea with the cut out top shelves but I didn't want to loose that real state so I just added lighting to see seeings clearly. Mine was already bigger with better access than your old pantry. Wish there was a way to share a photo here. Is there? I wonder if splitting your door in half so the drawers are behind one door and then french doors for the top half would be a better option?

    Electrician here.
Regulations will depend on where you're located.
You have good advice concerning box depth and not leaving hidden junctions.
Where I am you can't have plugs in furniture behind doors.
    Except:
    1) the plug turns off when the door, or drawer, is closed.
    2) the plug connects to a dedicated alliance. (Could argue that the coffee machine is dedicated, but a better example is a microwave that occupies the entire space)
also leave 6"-12" of wire as extra, I the outside, at every junction.
Very good woodworking ideas, good presentation, and content.
    Subbing 👍

I appreciate your videos so much man. The energy and excitement you show really inspires me to be a more productive and creative DIYer at home, cuz I gotta be honest, the constant clutter and dust around the house between the projects, not to mention the technical setbacks...they can really make a person frustrated and sorta depressed, really. But watching your channels is encouraging and it always makes me think 'how bad could it really be?' if we put in the work and do the research, plan ahead and reach out to ppl in the community, I find that we'd always end up with a project we can be proud of.
