    Joscha could legitimately be among the best, if not the best mind alive today.
    He's just, different. In how he thinks and speaks. Don't think I've heard someone quite like him before. So articulate.
    Guess that's what growing up in an enchanted German forest can do to ya.

    Reflections on August 10, 2020.
    The study of Imperial College which was the big push for the lockdowns has been proven wrong by numbers in UK, US, EU, SAM. The IFR is calculated to be less than 0.4% not the 2 or 4% thought in the beginning. Not a single country observed a truly exponential growth, in the most communities the curve collapsed at about 20% infection prevalence. Those who managed to collapse it before that, are seeing cases rising during the summer.
    The economic damage by the lockdowns is devastating all around the world, leading to much more damage than the virus itself. People loose not only their jobs , houses and possessions. They lose their future, and sanity. Mass protests all around the world.
    PS > Sweden is doing great, with single digit numbers of deaths each week.

    • @spinoza3673
      @spinoza3673 4 роки тому +1

      In most countries the curve collapsed in response to the lock-down measures that were imposed. This is blatant when you look at the data, as after countries began easing lock-down measures that is when the second wave started to creep up. Sweden did not impose lock-down, however, they have had strict social distancing guidelines in place. Sweden also has a small population and is relatively sparse. The population density for Sweden is just 25 per Km2. In contrast, Italy (which fared far worse initially) has a population density of 206 per Km2. Similarly, Italy also has a population that is 6 times larger than Sweden (where Italy and Sweden have populations of approximately 60 million and 10 million, respectively). So you can see that there are a number important factors to be taken into account when determining how well a country has performed.

    • @VJradiant
      @VJradiant 4 роки тому

      @@spinoza3673 I agree! the topic is more than complicated. And no one is discussing the aftermath of the lockdowns - jobs lost, suicides, depression and deaths due to delayed medical care. History will tell, but i fear that the lockdowns were the wrong thing to do! Especially that they happened on places where there were no significant populations infected.

    • @spinoza3673
      @spinoza3673 4 роки тому

      @@VJradiant It is a difficult problem to navigate. The issue with viral outbreaks is that we don't have much time to act. The data that initially emerged showed a case mortality rate of around 2%. The correct approach in response to that information is to try to contain the spread of the virus. If in time it becomes apparent that actually Covid-19 is no more harmful than seasonal flu and the initial data was wrong, then it would have turned out to be a false alarm. False alarms cost money. When some kid sets off the fire alarm by accident in school, it costs thousands of dollars for the local fire department to respond to what is just a false alarm. However, it is important that the fire department respond because of how serious the situation would be if it was not a false alarm.
      However, I do not think it is in any way clear that this current pandemic could be referred to as a false alarm. During one week in April, 15,455 Covid-19 deaths were reported in the US. In contrast, during the peak week of an influenza season, reported deaths range from 351 to 1,626 (depending on the severity of the flu season). Therefore, what the data shows is that even the worst flu seasons pale in comparison to Covid-19 in terms of reported deaths. For this reason, I find it pretty hard to believe that a "do nothing" approach would have saved the economy. A virus of this nature ripping through the world's population without any attempt to stop it would surely trigger a global recession. Not to mention the level of outrage and mass protest that would have likely occurred in response to the death toll.
      With that being said, you are right to point out the detrimental effect the lock-down measures have had on the economy and the devastating impact this is going to have on people's lives. Unfortunately, this will have a knock-on effect and things will get worse before they get better as more businesses close and more jobs are lost. Again, this is a difficult problem to navigate.

    • @VJradiant
      @VJradiant 4 роки тому

      @@spinoza3673 Indeed very difficult! I'm on board with the initial reaction, during march we didn't know much , and lockdown seemed best option but....
      1. Would anybody lockdown if China didn't?
      2. Would this pandemic become the Godzilla it is , if we didn't have the internet and everybody was focused on Wuhan and Bergamo which got their hospitals overwhelmed . I think the information age inflates the importance of any event around the world.
      3. I'm not underestimating Covid as a serious disease and pandemic. It is! But society has been through worse, at earlier stages in the development and it didn't overreacted. People move according to their community. If they see people sick and dying, people back off and stay home. That's a normal reaction and you don't need lockdows to do so.
      4. It's much easier to be in lockdown in a developed country than in a poor one. We didn't take into account the devastation on the developing economies, which i'm sure will be more than what the virus could do even without government mitigation. Most of the people advocating lockdowns in the beginning (including me) were rich enough to own a house, have internet and be well of financially to last few years. Nobody asked the african farmer nor the market worker in Indonesia.
      5. And finally about lockdowns ... i'm still hesitant to declare a win for them. I cannot explain Chile . It's one of the strictest lockdown, with military since March, and still the virus went through it's thing. And on the opposite side - Belarus - no lockdowns, the president declares that Covid is not true, they have football matches and everything.. and yet 600ish reported deaths, and a beautiful curve with decay. There are more things at play here.
      Hindsight is a beautiful thing... probably reflection next spring will be much different , or not.

    This interview does not age well... I love models as much as the next guy, but they don't predict the future - they are engineered to predict the past.
    This is why policy should not be based on models - take note Dominic Cummings.
    Edward Lorenz, and all that...
    But his heart is in the right place - assuming he is actually biological.

      Lol are you kidding? How did it not age well? He was very correct on infection rate, just over the mark on mortality rate for the general population. He was not way off on the mortality rate for people 50+.
      Hundreds of thousands are dead from this in the US and we have no idea whether or not there are long term affects from infection.
      I'm also glad you conveniently left out that he said the predictions will be over estimated because they don't take into account implementations to slow the virus down.
      And let's not get started on the braindead general public that absolutely so ONLY follow general consensus(hive mind) without any individual thoughts.

    And since this came out... how dismally over estimated was the mortality rate... he has jeopardised his reputation... in my mind anyway

      Not only jeopardized but completely ruined it in my mind. Sad, he obviously knows how the herd/hive mind works but I didn't expect him to use that knowledge to exert mind control on the herd and to be a mouthpiece for the totalitarian, globalist elites.

    Regardless of how dangerous any pandemic is, the best path forward is always a high degree of accurate technical information widely disseminated - coupled with fluid and organic free market reaction at every level of society. The worst course of action is for government to inject its grubby tyrannical fingers into any decisions whatsoever.
