    ----------------------------------------
One OK Rock is a Japanese rock band that was formed in Tokyo, Japan, in 2005. The band's name comes from "one o'clock", the time that the band used to practice their music on weekends. They chose to play at one o'clock in the morning because it was cheaper to use the rehearsal space during those hours. Originally consisting of five members, the band currently consists of vocalist Takahiro Moriuchi, guitarist and bandleader Toru Yamashita, bassist Ryota Kohama, and drummer Tomoya Kanki. The band's musical style is varied, with songs ranging from alternative rock and emo to post-hardcore and pop punk. They were initially affiliated with Amuse, Inc., but they established their own management agency, named 10969 Inc, in 2021. In the United States, they are signed with the record label Fueled by Ramen1.
As for their song "Take What You Want", it was released in 2017 and features the band 5 Seconds of Summer. The song seems to portray a tumultuous relationship and the process of letting go. The repeated line "Take what you want, take what you want and go" might be interpreted as a final act of giving up or moving on from a difficult situation or relationship

The original version of this song was written by OOR and 5 seconds of summer. The recording version is definitely more upbeat. Taka's parents did go through a divorce. They are very public people in the music industry in Japan. This concert was in 2018 shortly after the untimely death of Chester Bennington, who was good friends with taka and OOR. They were planning on touring together. Its been said that the long silence was in honor of Chester. At the end, he thanks the audience for the given respect allowed. They have been together since 2005 so like 18 years. The two members that were friends before the creation of the band were Toru guitar and Ryota base. They were originally a 5 member band but they quickly realized realized who will stay. They are an honest to God amazing band. They play for 50000 fans stadium to 800 people bars still today with the same love and dedication. They are in their world tour right now. Check some if their fancams of concerts. Please check them out some more. They are amazing. ❤❤❤

The rasp in Taka's voice that's not usually there was due to him not feeling well that day, yet it made the song so much more emotional. Frankly, kudos to him for performing the full 2h+ show while feeling unwell, without making it feel like it was in any way inferior to their other live performances when everyone was in tiptop condition.

They were supposed to tour with Linkin Park, but Chester's sudden death prevented that from happening. I heard that this concert is a memorial concert for Chester and the long silence in the song is a prayer for Chester.😢

I saw them a month ago. They played in a small venue in Czechia (around 800 people) which is very different for them. They are very famous and they usually play for big crowd. At this concert, we were so close, interacting with them, clapping/holding hands, etc. It was the best concert I have ever been to. They themselves said they love it and that's why they are coming back here (they came to Czechia a few times before).
Taka (vocalist) is one of the best frontmans I have ever seen. The way he sings, looking into the crowd like he wants us to feel what he's singing about, what he feels... He's very intense.

you are so right. the four of them are very close like family. Toru (guitarist) & Ryota (bassist) used to be together in a hip hop boyband when they were kids. when the band disbanded Toru asked Ryota to form a rock band together, which Ryota had absolutely no idea about playing bass. Toru is the leader by the way.
he also invited Taka to become a vocalist. Toru waits every day at the cafe where Taka sings begging him to join. Taka finally agreed because he was annoyed with Toru who came every day to the cafe lol.
they also asked Tomoya to become a drummer.
since 2005, their teenage years have been spent at the practice studio from 1am (one o'clock) to dawn because renting a practice studio at that time is cheaper.
also because the Japanese do not distinguish pronounciation between 'R and L', the mention of one o'clock becomes one ok rock sounds similar to the tongue of the Japanese. this is where the band name came from.
    They are close since then.
Sorry my english so messy 🥲

One OK Rock started in 2005, and the band members grow up together as a family, probably the reason why they are so tight as a band. They performed as 1 unit and not individually. Taka (vocals) is usually the songwriter for the band, he got inspiration in his experiences since he’s a teenager. He is a son of 2 famous singers in Japan, but ran away from home because of family matters. I believed that’s 1 inspiration of this song, the divorce of his parents. Other members are Toru(guitars), Ryota(bass), & Tomoya(drums).
They are in their mid 30s now so not that young. Next recommendation is We are (18FES version).

  • @MichaelReiter
    @MichaelReiter Рік тому +68

OOR has many songs with a positive message, their energy and their interaction with the crowd is amazing. Their lead singer Taka has a great voice and knows how to convey emotions. OOR writes almost all songs in such a way that there is room for the audience to sing along. The audience is basically the 5th member of the band.
They look younger than they are. All members are now in their mid-30s, so they were in their late 20s/early 30s at the time of the video.
This band is another rabbit hole to go down. 😉

I recommend their performance if We Are (Fes 18 version) this song was created by one ok rock after receiving over a thousand complaints from 18 year olds. The Japanese teens were frustrated about being treated as kids by older adults. They wanted to share their opinions in politics but the older adults were saying that they didn’t understand what they were talking about but at the same time being told that they are adults and need to act like it. So when they heard about this issue one ok rock made the song “We Are” and then did a collab with 1000 teenagers and performed the song with them. It was a very touching thing to see. (There are some details I might have wrong or didn’t include)

Thanks for reacting to my band. The vocalist is called Takahiro Moriuchi, Toru is the guitarist and is the leader, Tomoya is the drummer, and Ryota is the bassist.
Taka and toru are the ones who write and produce the songs.
In "take what you want" Taka tells us the story of his family. He says that he does not want anything from his broken home since his parents divorced and that affected him a lot, Taka also left home at the age of 15 because he did not get along with his father (he is a very famous Japanese singer , his name is Shinichi Mori), I tell you that his mother is also a very famous singer (Masako Mori).
Taka's father didn't want him to have a rock band, he didn't support him with his dream, that's why they were long distanced.
Taka also has a younger brother named Hiroki, he also has a band "my first story", just this year they spoke again and luckily now Taka has a very good relationship with his family

Taka’s rasp for this song is for theatrics. It adds colour to the performance. The long pause was a great choice, followed by - “Can you hear me?” It was one of my best performances for him. He shined and conveyed what he wanted. With this song, he took us on his journey of emotions and stories. When it ended we were on TAKA’s side and we empathized and understood his pain.

If I am not mistaken, this song was written by Taka (the lead singer) based on his personal experience (the divorce of his parents).
Btw, Taka was sick during this performance. He had a fever, and they had to postpone the concert for a few hours. But somehow, this condition added raspiness to his voice and he managed to finish this almost three hours concert in the most prestigious dome.

He writes most of the music and lyrics so the song is very personal to him and it shows. Their lives are their greatest strength because they give their all in their performances. Taka singing Adele's Hello shows his singing prowess because he is singing in the original key as Adele and does a superb job. Hope you can listen to it because you will be floored.

Its so crazy to say this but Taka's 35 this year. the bassist Ryota is 33, and has been married to Avril Lavigne's sister Jessica since 2018 and they have a daughter together. Their songs are all designed to spread a positive message. Stand Out, Fit In, Be the Light, Clock Strike, The Beginning, We Are. They've got so many songs that you can just put on and turn off your brain and feel like "Things will get better with the world". Their live concerts especially have an almost spiritual nature to them, where they draw you into the exact moment almost like a church choir. You don't go to watch them live, you go to experience the world in that moment.

Hey, watch this of Taka crying while his parents was in the stadium 11 years ago. You won't regret! Emotional roller coaster. ua-cam.com/video/_vSTZJTbkig/v-deo.html
The song is written for Taka’s parents whom both believe that moving forward as a vocalist or a band member is difficult that they discourage him, despite the fact that his parents are famous singers themselves. This made taka decide to run away from home, live with his grandma while working part time jobs to get the money they need in starting up a band. How I interpret “nobody’s home” means the lack of support he got from home. But the song as a whole is asking for forgiveness towards his parents for what his done and telling them where he ended up.
