    Trouble is on the NHS I don’t even get given HRT which is a great all round anti ager for women. There will be some reason not to give it to you, some study like the nurses study that makes doctors scared to prescribe to healthy people. I went private. I predict you will have to be wealthy enough to get these drugs privately. Not necessarily rich but not poor either.

    Immortality is simply impossible - at least with today's technology. But 10 or 20 years longer? Why not? But if you want immortality too much, you could end up like the first Chinese emperor: He believed that mercury would make him immortal. In the end, he died early from mercury poisoning.

    i just watched the ordinary things video with my girlfriend. i actually SCREAMED when you came on screen because it was such a surprise. took her a minute, but she eventually recognized you from the medlife crisis video you did! honestly it was such an unexpected cameo since you and ordinary things operate in totally different spheres of the internet. i'm very glad it happened though, you were a great voice of reason sprinkled in around most of the others.

    The "longevity will benefit the rich" crowd are similar to the "big pharma is evil" crowd. They may have half a point on both but if harnessing the self interest of billionaires is what it takes to get drugs developed and studies funded then that will only be a benefit. The real question is how we go about getting the treatments affordable for the mainstream in a reasonable timeframe (5-10 years). I always liked India's way of capping drug prices. Not every country has to do it but the fact that motivated people would be able to import anti-ageing drugs cheaply from India should have a price lowering effect on patented drugs in OECD countries.
    Also like the bold style choice with the glasses, was half expecting Dave Asprey to appear on camera.

      We'd need to ask the drug company for the specifics (and they're all pretty tight-lipped about it) but it's probably in the tens of thousands if it's produced in a similar way to other take-cells-out, modify-them, put-them-back type therapies...

    Pharmaceutical companies charge significant sums for new drugs not only to recoup their investments in those drugs but also to counter their losses on the drug failures (e.g., in the U.S., the ones that don't make it through animal trials or, worse, strikeout during FDA trials). If drug companies became better at weeding out potential failures earlier in the process, then they might not have to charge as much money for each successful drug.

      That's not where the internet came from. The internet is 90% free opensource software. It was made by professors and passionate nerds in their spare time. Not the rich. That's why the internet is so hard to monetize, why sharing files is so easy. No rich person would create an internet that is a p2p mesh network where sharing pirated files is easier than buying them.
      It was funded by public research money. So taxes. There is no invention that rich people can take LESS credit for. And thank god for that, because it would be useless if it was made by a rich person.

    For me it is less about life span and more about health span.
    Living a great life for a decade is better than being miserable for a century.
    Now if you live miserably for a century in the hopes that you will live happily ever after. OK.

    • @yeetyeet7070

      for the researchers it's about that too

    • @KuboF
      @KuboF 2 місяці тому

      I repeatedly think about this. Basically, the decision is how long I would accept to be bedridden in order to then live for centuries in great health. One decade is very reasonable time for that, even more.

    • @iche9373
      @iche9373 2 місяці тому

      I completely agree with you that the quality of life, or health span, is incredibly important. Living a fulfilling and happy decade is far more valuable than enduring a miserable century. It's essential to focus on maintaining both physical and mental well-being throughout our lives, rather than just aiming for longevity without considering the quality of those years.
      Striving for a balance where we can enjoy our time, stay healthy, and feel content is key. It's about making choices that enhance our overall well-being and happiness in the present and the future, rather than sacrificing our current happiness for an uncertain future. Your perspective highlights the importance of prioritizing a meaningful and enjoyable life.

    • @squamish4244
      @squamish4244 2 місяці тому

      Especially mental health. Most mental disorders develop when you are still a teenager or in your early 20s, so age has nothing to do with them.

    • @keithgarrett4155
      @keithgarrett4155 2 місяці тому

      @@squamish4244 there are a lot of older folks suffering from loneliness or perceived abandonment, mental health issues can be age related. A sixty year old is not generally as physically attractive as their 25 yr old self was.
      I'd point out that the notion that we will die someday, typically before our hundredth birthday in ill health must affect our mental health. I mean why bother to try or why not do horrible things because I am going to die anyway, so why not. If you see my point.

      @@nozhki-busha He's interested in the longevity of the entire human race, that's why he's funding the initiative for space exploration.
