  • Cheap Marker Review! // Ohuhu Alcohol Markers
    Today I am going to review and show you how to color with Ohuhu alcohol markers. I have seen them online and was curious if they would perform well because they were so inexpensive and the company sent me a set for review purposes. Here is a link to the set I am using: amzn.to/2hJ9MX1 and here is a coupon code good for 15% off this set: 15Frugal Offer good through 11/15/17 11:59pm PDT
    Other Supplies:
    Cardstock I worked on: Neenah Classic Crest Solar white: amzn.to/2zk1E96
    Black ink pad (Memento) amzn.to/2y5ficM
    Face stamp (Stampendous) amzn.to/2ixYt3A
    Butterfly Stamp (Stampendous) amzn.to/2y4BZ0G *Dies available: amzn.to/2zzlOwE
    Leaf stamps (Stampendous) amzn.to/2hIWkCs Leaf dies: amzn.to/2zz87O7
    Ohuhu White acrylic paint pen *I will be reviewing these in the future amzn.to/2izwlwT (10% off code 10Frugal good through 11/15/17 11:59pm PDT)
    Clear blender pen (Prismacolor) amzn.to/2zk9M9D
    Review: These double ended art markers feature a fine tip bullet nib and a chisel tip and are filled with alcohol ink*. They have an oval barrel much like a Copic marker. *3 markers are fluorescent water-based markers/highlighters.
    (Pros)
    Low Price-Around 50 cents a marker.
    Great selection of colors (77 alcohol pens)
    Good blending ability.
    Gray identification band on the end with bullet tip to make finding the fine tip end easier.
    Markers provided crisp lines on the paper I used with no feathering.
    Good layering ability (you can layer up colors to get darker shades.)
    (cons)
    There is no brush nib so blending over a large area or palette blending is limited.
    One marker arrives with a loose cap but it was easily fixed with a few drops of denatured alcohol-Just make sure you cap them tightly as with ANY alcohol pen.
    This set could use a medium light violet and medium light brown to round out the colors but you could add those colors in from other brands is you like as long as they are alcohol based.
    The 3 waterbased highlighters were an odd choice, I'd rather have 3 more alcohol pens (a clear blender, mid violet and light brown) in stead of those.
    Bottom line these pens are a steal, I have never tried alcohol pens that were this inexpensive, they are half the price of a Sharpie! I think this is the perfect set for someone starting out or someone who want's an extra set for travel or for a teen who is getting into markers on a budget. This set is NOT for someone who must have a brush tip marker. I think they are a great buy.

    Hi. I have these. And they are great. I had to throw a couple that leaked everywhere. But it was only 2. I actually threw the highlighters away because the pilled the paper so badly. Now I know why. I also bought the set of bianyo markers. They are very cost efficient as well. I like to use them together because the bianyo set has more greys and purples in the mid range. I recommend both sets. Great review. I love your channel. And you are very relaxing to watch. 🌺🌺

      I purchased a set called Touch New and I'm impressed with these 35.99 for 80 set...it looks to me like they might all be the same. I figured a great starter then I can get a copic now and again to build up.

    The face turned out so well. I haven't played with alcohol markers to color my girl's faces so this was a great tutorial for me. I've debated on getting this brand's markers for some time. Perhaps it's time I got them. Love your leaves which were also filled with valuable techniques. Thanks Linsay, Jane

    What a great review: I like that you bring up the weaknesses & great tips ie. denatured alcohol as opposed to regular alcohol & applying the actual color to cap. All very useful especially affordability. Thank you Lindsay.

    I must say that I get really happy whenever I see other artists using pipettes! This was such a fantastic, fantastic review of a marker I've never heard of. I don't use markers very often (I have a large set of Copics I bought for a project, that I never use), but am always fascinated how other artists use them successfully. These are such a great deal, especially for beginners. And I wholly agree - it's all about practice. Thank you for sharing your insight and experience with this. Definitely something to consider as a future purchase for myself or my kids. My only question (if I missed it in the video) is whether you'd buy them over another brand, like Copic? Cheers! :)

    I hope you will request a sample of the TouchFive markers for review. A couple of months ago I got 48 "Animation" colors for $30 (delivered at LIGHTNING SPEED) on ebay and would like to see a comparison. The same supplier was selling15 colorless blenders for $6.59, which could probably be used with any alcohol markers.

    Thank you so very much for doing this!!! I've been eyeing those markers for quite a while on Amazon. I always learn so much from you. I really appreciate you taking the time to pack all those little details in (like the denatured alcohol). I would really enjoy seeing you do the white Ohuhu marker and its friends tested out that were supposed to work on porcelain (I think you said) - you may have already done that one! I will look.Thank you!! Hugs--- Wendy

    As a kid we had a kettle and bread-bin and knife rack all in harvest gold! We also had a front parlour ceiling the same colour but that was because my late father smoked 40 a day..! ;)

      When we bought this house in 99 we had a harvest gold fridge and oven and avocado green carpeting! It was a sight:) It was all original I suspect in our 1970s ranch:) Luckily I don't think the previous owner smoked:)

      thefrugalcrafter Lindsay Weirich Most appliances in UK were white (still called “white goods”) until really quite recent years and the only common washing machines you see are white or silver or black or grey I guess. Fridges come in colours, but that’s all. I remember a neighbour having an avocado bathroom suite (Bath and sink and toilet) and thinking they were “posh” as a result! Our front parlour as a kid had one brown wall and three magnolia. The ceiling had cracked-ice polystyrene tiles and the carpet was awful. Late 1990s my parents decided to “do it up” and got new carpet and wallpaper etc. Green walls with 2 wallpapers and a border - very much of the era - with an orange patterned carpet...! Green and orange together...! It was bad taste central...!!!

    Indeed, I am pretty have agreed with your comments. Having them always on my handy hands all time, they are easy to use for arthritis hands like mine fir theirs caps easy to open up! Even I am having pricy markers which those are difficult to open up even with scissors as tricks, the sharpie are very easy to use for arthritis hands issue too, even if they are more expensive than Ohuhu! After done a swatches of all my mediums that I am having, all your coloured pencils review you have done through out the years all your commentary’s were well done and very justified! Writing the 11/02/2023 from Quebec in Canada! 😊

    I bought this set of 80 Ohuhu markers off Amazon. I ordered the set on Christmas and I got them yesterday (Dec 29). The markers are completely different than those in your set. The caps were perfectly oval shaped identical to the barrel. There was a MAJOR difference however: there are no color names, just numbers, but the bag of markers did come with a color chart with the colors organized in numrical order. Plus, my markers seem slightly smaller than the previous version of Ohuhu. The highlighters are labeled with and F like FO4, meaning Flourescent Orange 4. I only recieved 2 Flourescents in my set of 80.

    Lindsey, Thank you for another fantastic tutorial and product demo! I LOVE what you do! Question: Do you think these would work well for handcoloring photography? On photo paper, that is. Also, I found my answer to the number of markers in set and the expiration of the code. . .happens to be the day after my birthday!

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  7 років тому

      I am not sure, I have never used an alcohol marker on photo paper. I think you would want a softer brush tip so you don't get streaks.

  • @angelmoonllc821

    I am glad you pointed out the Fluorescent markers are highlighters and not alcohol ink markers. Very strange that they are in there and that they ARE NOT labeled as such! I used my label maker and made labels to identify that the highlighter markers are Non-Alcohol Highlighter Markers. I just got my set of 80 yesterday. I have watched other reviews and felt that for the price, these are a great deal. I already have several ShinHan Twin Touch and Spectrum Noir alcohol ink markers, so I am not sure I am keeping these or gifting them to my teenage daughter. I also think they should have made the storage pouch with the handle and zipper on the long side so the markers are stored horizontally. For those who don't know, you should always store your alcohol ink markers flat or horizontally. Thank you for doing the review, LINDSAY! I used your coupon code when I ordered mine, so I got them even cheaper! Love your videos, you rock!

    You are amazing Lindsay, how you can draw something like that just blows me away. Alcohol markers are definitely on the upnow. I got a small pack of Spectrum Noir. Question: Can I use different alcohol markers together because Stampin' Up have just released their alcohol markers that come in two colours (a light and a dark); so I was thinking of investing in some of these colours that I haven't got in my Spectrum Noir selection?

    So glad you tried these markers I don't have any extra money to buy markers that cost very much your videos I truly enjoy so much. I am a newbie to adult coloring and have no artistic talent at all. Would love to have money to make cards like you do and create such awesome one's barely have enough to pay my bill's. A family friend got me a big set of prismacolor pencils last year for Christmas and another friend got me 2 100 sets of gel pens. So have enjoyed coloring with them so much but have seen how awesome people using markers I wanted to get some but the price's have been way over my budget I saw them on Amazon and put them on my wish list because other's said they were good markers too. So glad you think they are good too am going to buy them. Since you think so too. Can't wait think so too.I am going to buy them and have so much fun coloring with so many different color's like everyone else does too buy me a colorless blender and be all set. Can't wait to see your next video. They really help me so so much. Learn something new with each one I watch.

    I got a set of 80 Touchfive markers which I don't like I must have got a bad set, when I use my Micron pen to draw the outline of my image some of the flesh tone colors like salmon pink skin white and a couple other ones will washout the outline and lot of the color numbers and color names on top of the cap are either faded or smeared and that's how it was when I bought the markers brand new. Watching your video I decided to buy the Ohuhu markers set of 80.

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  7 років тому

      if you already have the blick I'd have a look at Copic, they have really light tones that start with the color letter and then 00 for light, 000 for super light or 0000 for practicly clear. Anything with an 00 will be a lighter range (or the lightest that other brands make) than other brands. If you can find a store that sells them and you can bring your swatches it will be your best bet. Good luck:)

      It was $38. Before the $8.50 shipping. So the code helped offset the shipping fee by a little over $5. + My tax. So around $42 after shipping and taxes. I think it's still a good deal for the 80 markets. I'll give them a try and we'll see. Thank you.

      jerilee kerr. This is *very* weird. I posted the original post of this thread (about using the markers on photography, etc.) and it showed up as your post. Has anyone every seen that happen before? Very strange. Feels like I'm in the twilight zone. LOL

      Karen Lemonds . I'm not sure. I was watching Lindsey with the Frugal Crafters review of these markets. I think something like this had happened before on another site. I'm not sure if it's from You Tube or what. I'm just enjoying the time people make great videos on how to use our supplies. Have a great day.

    Thanks I have had these for a few months and I love them but a few are drying out. What type of alcohol did you use?

  • @HooWnts2No
    @HooWnts2No 7 років тому

    Don’t most alcohol markers bleed through the paper even if it’s say.... 140 lb. Strathmore Windpower type of paper?

    Just wondering how you would compare them to the copics. Do they blend as well?

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  7 років тому +1

      I think the brush tip plays a huge part in ease of blending so if you compare them with a Copic Sketch or Ciao the copics will bend better for the sake of the brush tip, The inks in all alcohol pens are very similar. Compared t the original copics (bullet and chisel tip) the results will be similar.

    Question. I have 75% of Specruim Noir markers but I really want the brush tips. How are these markers compared to Specruim Noir markers? I was thinking to add these for more color options.

    • @shellyray2416

      xisobelx373 I don't have a coupon I have 75% of the markers. I don't have the 2 new sets.

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  7 років тому +2

      these have very similar tips to spectrum noir, they are not brush tipped markers. I am not sure how much overlap you would have with your spectrum noir but I will post a picture of my swatch on my blog tomorrow if you want to compare with what you have:)

    Amazon send you those markers to tryout, I'm assuming you got those for free if that's the case then how did you get them for free.

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  6 років тому

      Amazon has many different sellers, this one was Ohuhu and they contacted me and asked if I would try some of their products. These had been requested by viewers so I agreed.

    Does that not make a mess of the marker tips

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  7 років тому +2

      Nope, if you ever get a stain on a marker tip just scribble it on a scrap of paper but the ink wants to go to the dryest point (the paper) so it is not an issue:)

  • @arielsierra6751
    @arielsierra6751 7 років тому

    I just bought the set a few weeks ago so this came in handy! I am wondering if you can use these markers for the stamping technique where you color the stamp before you use it (instead of using an ink pad). Do you recommend? Thanks!

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  7 років тому +1

      you will want a waterbased marker for that, these would dry too fast and stain your stamps.

    I tried to put this request on your blog/video requests, but can't for the life of me figure out how to "make a comment" on your website, so I'm asking here: If you could only have 1 full set of markers (and there are only these 2 options) to use with your watercolor paintings, which would you choose, Tombows or Zig clean color real brush markers and why (I don't think either of them offer refills)?

    • @karenthompson895
      @karenthompson895 7 років тому +1

      Bev Roberts, Tombows have marker type tips and Zig Real Brush markers actually have a brush, like a watercolor brush (sort of) tip. Hope this helps a little. 😃💖

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  7 років тому +1

      boy, it is a personal choice, they are both high quality but they are also both dye based so they will fade over time. I think if you want the to use with watercolor painting only I'd go with the Winsor & Newton watercolor markers. They are wonderful but more expensive per marker but there are not as many colors to collect if you are looking for the full set. Waterbased marker will work with one another and those 3 brands offer open stock options so I'd pick up one of each single marker and see what you think:)

    • @bevroberts8440
      @bevroberts8440 7 років тому

      Thanks, Lindsay. I do have a few of the Winsor & Newton markers, but the problem with those is that they are markers, LOL. I really wanted something with a real brush tip. Why can't they make a product similar to the Zigs but with true watercolor pigments and lightfastness (rhetorical question). Have you ever wondered why no makes such a product?

    • @bevroberts8440
      @bevroberts8440 7 років тому

      Yes, thanks! I do not want a marker style tip so the Tombows are a no.
