My 2011 Terrain had the access panel in the wheel well too. Makes this much easier - one screw instead of all those clips, and no need to mess around under the hood
Thank you thank you thank you!!!! I am not by any means a car guy and following this video I was able to change the headlight! You saved us hundreds of $$$$$! Thank you again!!!
Excellent video instruction. Just did a driver,s side bulb on a Terrain and the vid was a great guide. Just to add to this.. if you have the wheel off and crank all the way to the passenger side you will be able to get the whole inner fender liner pulled back over the brake disc, completely out off the way with lots of room to change the bulb or take an easier video.
IMPORTANT TIP - the H11 bulbs have an orange polyurethane washer at the base of the bulb. This washer creates a seal when the bulb is inserted into the headlight socket. This washer often sticks in the socket and doesn't come out with the old bulb. That makes it impossible to get the new bulb to seat and twist-click in the socket. ALWAYS CHECK TO MAKE SURE THE OLD WASHER CAME OUT WITH THE BULB OR REACH IN AND TAKE IT OUT OF THE SOCKET BY HAND. However, like the other posts have said, this is definitely the hard way to do this. Using that access panel, it only takes about 5 minutes per side to change the bulb; you don't have to remove any clips or bolts and you don't have to remove the tire.
Thank you for sharing. 1 very important part you forgot to say, NEVER touch the new bulb with bare hands (fingers). Install only touching the connector, right to tight. Any oil, sweat, ect will cause the bulb to burst once heated. Thanks again for the video.
I changed a bulb on my 2011 Terrain with one hand with no tools. All you need to do is remove the access panel in front of the wheel. Turning the wheel to the right gives you easy access to the panel. Good tip on leaving the hood up to help with the light though.
@@vincentvaccaro4879 Some versions of the GMC Terrain don't have the access panel in the fender liner, my parents' 2013 Equinox has the panel but my 2015 Terrain doesn't for some reason (from some google searches it seems like the 2015-2017 Terrain and Equinox don't have access panels but I could be wrong). Even with the access panel I still find replacing low beam bulbs a pain in the ass, but I'm also spoiled by only having to take out 2 bolts in the engine bay to remove the whole headlight assembly on my 2000 GMC Safari (to replace the bulbs I literally just have to open the hood!).
@@stiffrichard6549that opening is incredibly tiny. I’m a petite female and even my hand was crammed. Unfortunately the 2015 terrain doesn’t have an access hatch either.
Fyi this is actually super easy to do, just looks annoying but a few things to mention.. moving the bumper isn't really necessary, just folding/bending the tire wall is fine, you can push it back towards the engine n pull it out from over the top metal flap the tire wall is on (if that makes sense) N jus push it back over the metal flap when done. Also Ive heard on other videos that the markings or in my case there was a plastic tab arm thing sticking a certain way and i guess it needs to be pointing the same way as it was before when replacing the cap? But this can be felt more than needing to be seen in my case.. so i didn't need to take the plastic clips off the top or even open the hood to get light. Those clips can be a biznitch to get off but if u take em off the wrong way n not break em u can use a flat head to push the inner clip out to put the first part back in when putting em back. In my situation it was easier this way cause getting em out the right way felt like it was going to break the clip heads.. final note.. F GMC for making it this complicated to change the bulb lol....
If you're changing the driver side, you have to full turn the wheel to the right then you can see access to light bulb. You dont have to take off the number
@@Onedayrenee lol.. i repeated it like 8x right after he said it.. it's been a pretty shitty day today, so it's crazy how the smallest, random thing can put a smile on your face, at least for the moment 😅😁
There's an access panel in front of the wheel (both the passenger's and driver's side) which, is removed via a T20. Slight twist and you can change them from there. Don't touch bulb and have wheel turned to the right.
Look in the wheel well for a little door you can easily remove with one screw reach your hand right in there and change it easily. I can actually see the door in the video lol
Which low beam bulb can I use to replace original? The original bulbs have poor lighting. I live on the back roads with lots of deer. 2017 GMC Terrain.
There is a round hard piece of plastic in the fender wale. Twist it down and reach through and change light. So much easier than this way and no tools needed.
So this is not how I did mine. Just turned my wheel and didn't have to move the red part by tire. No wonder he said it's difficult. He took the long route.
Umm no. There is a small round access hole in the wheel well. Remove 1 screw and turn it and you have access to that cover and then the bulb for your low beam.
Yup, looks like the dumbest possible way to locate a high maintenance part. Typical GM engineering. Used to be, "The quality goes in before the name goes on", now it's, "Just how hard can we make it for the consumer so they go buy another brand?"
These vehicles are very over engineered but to say the quality isn’t there is insane, have you ever seen the plants the terrain and equinox are made in? The quality is far and away priority number 1
Remove the screws... dont skip it, screws arent ez to get to next to the wheel. Also the small plastic screw how da fuck i remove it without breaking it??
The chinches increase to touch the lightbulb. I rather take the 3 clips on top then remoce 2 screws to pull headlight out. It makes much more sense than this awkward video. Thumbs down.
Why do you show people how to do all this work and tear shit up when there os plainly an acces hole in the fender well for that...just one t20 torx driver to open it...its literally a 3 minute job...come on man
Not all of them have it. I thought it would be an easy job when I watched a video and seen that access hole you’re talking about. Then I went out to put the new bulb in and my 2016 does not have the access hole and I had to do what this guy did. It was a giant pain in the ass lol
My 2011 Terrain had the access panel in the wheel well too. Makes this much easier - one screw instead of all those clips, and no need to mess around under the hood
My 2012 does too
Can confirm with my 2011 Terrain.
Not on 2014 SLE models
I just did my 2012 and it definitely has the big round access panel
My 11 and 17 both do one screw with a T20

Thanks for this video man! Got both of my low beam bulbs swapped out in 10 minutes.
Who are you lying to?
Your 5 minutes video is worth a like and a subscribe! Thank you.
Thanks man, I can’t believe they made it that difficult to change a lightbulb. Video helped me a bunch
Viewed other videos that were not explaining much the driver's side. Thanks for this video I was able to replace.
Worked like a charm, Thank You

Great job!!! I took my terrain to a mechanic and they didn't know how to change the bulb. Thank you
Lol
Thanks for making this a easy job to do greatly appreciated
Good stuff. Thanks. Would u also be able to take the whole light out and change it so u don’t have to go through the wheel well?

thanks a lot, I tried to do it from the top...
Does the terrain not allow for led bulbs? I went to swap with led but they are too long so the dust cover won't fit back on.
My 2012 Terrain has an access hatch that allows you to change the low beam bulb by removing just 1 screw. Did you check that?
Yes it does haha I watched this video and then went to go do it and saw that. Much simpler.
Yeah, I've checked that out. I can get my hand in there to replace all the bulbs. No idea why everyone is going to this rear access panel. Jeez.
