  • How to replace GMC Terrain headlight bulb the easy way. You only need one tool to replace the headlight in a 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017 GMC Terrain. It is a T-20 Torx tool and there is only one bolt to take out. It is very easy to get to and you can do it without lifting the vehicle. All you have to do is turn the wheels out facing you, and you will have enough room to reach in and take out the one tore bolt, then remove the cover, and then remove the bulb.

    IMPORTANT TIP - the H11 bulbs come with an orange polyurethane washer at the base of the bulb. This creates a seal when you put the bulb into the socket. When you take the old bulb out this washer often sticks in the socket and doesn't come out with the bulb. That makes it impossible to get the new bulb to seat and twist-click into the socket. MAKE SURE THE OLD WASHER COMES OUT WITH THE OLD BULB OR REACH IN AND TAKE IT OUT BY HAND !! BTW - great video ... short, well scripted and very accurate.

    Thank you!, Thank you!, Thank you!!! We've been driving around about 3 weeks with a new bulb in the vehicle without knowing how to change it. The auto parts store where it was purchased didn't have a clue. I had a feeling I would find it on UA-cam and when I saw rhe length of your video, you were my first choice! All videos should be like this (straight to the point) without all the unnecessary stuff. You have another new subscriber. Now can you do a video on how to stop the oil consumption of these SUV's?

    • @GarageKing
      @GarageKing  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks so much !!!! I appreciate the great comment. With how to videos on things like this, brakes, and other maintenance I try to do the videos as short as I can because when I search for things I'm the same way :) I don't want to hear someone rambling on forever. As for the oil consumption its a major issue on these vehicles, and there are there are lawsuits against GM in Canada (not sure about other countries) The problem seems to stem from the design in the PCV system where things get plugged up. To keep the PCV operating at full capacity you have to keep the oil vapours that circulate in all gasoline engines as clean as possible. I think to fix it, its a bigger job, as you would have to take the intake manifold off and clean everything, and then install something like a catch can to prevent it from happening again (because it's going to happen again, it's in the design of the engine)
      While I have not installed one on the Terrian, I have put catch cans on a lot of other vehicles and they purpose of them is too keep oil out of the intake manifold. Some vehicles are worse than others for oil consumption so they are not needed for all engines, but I find the good quality ones do work. I'm a licensed mechanic so I have seen quite a bit, and this UA-cam channel is a hobby for me where I can make some cool videos :) The terrain actually belongs to my friend so if she brings it to me for oil consumption I would make a quick video on it for sure !!! I do have more Terrain footage, I just have to edit and upload, and I like to vary the vehicles every week.
      Here is a shorter video on catch cans for your general knowledge ua-cam.com/video/bQE1qEtP8dQ/v-deo.html
      Thanks again !!!

    Mean cop stopped my daughter it was dark and cold.. and told her she had a headlight out.. then told her he'd tow the car if she drove it the 2 blocks to autozone... I found this video and had her get a bulb and driver.. she did it herself.. in the dark... that cop just sat there.. waiting ...she finally get things going and leaves ....the police officer went to drive off as he follows her but doesn't turn on even his head lights... big rig come through and knock him into the shoulder of the road, and cop car flips. I asked my daughter if she stopped.. she said no.. he made me a big girl, changing my light in the dark.. he's a big boy too...he can get out of his upside police car by himself. he doesn't need my help... karma waited an hour of patience to right a wrong... but your video was the best 5 minutes of my life to help her... Only things I’ll say, which is not your fault in the video, the space I worked with was pretty tough, and I rarely was able to see what I was doing (particularly installing the new bulb). That said, everything else was laid out perfectly in your video
    One thing that helped, I moved my steering wheel all the way to one side to access the screw MUCH more easily, and it helped me a bit more with my vision.

      I learned that after the video as some commenters came forward and told me. Its too bad that GM changed the design, but I did hear from some others that attempted your style and they said they were able to get to the light by loosening and pulling back the inner fender which is much easier than the bumper. I can't confirm as I never tried it, but figured I would let you know.

      Thanks and I appreciate the comment. The car was my friends car. If I remember correctly you can get the high beams out, you just have to reach a bit more, but it can be done the same way. OK - edit, I just watched the vid, and I'm remembering, I think you can get to the high beam with a little more twisting. If you have at least one high beam working make sure to turn it for a check to locate the right bulb, and then turn off, just so you know you are replacing the right bulb.

    My son has a 16’ Terrain, he was wanting some brighter bulbs, still has oem. It doesn’t have the access on the inner fender, I’m guessing just remove inner fender would be the same difference. I think they did away with the access maybe 15’ or 16’ model? They just made it more difficult when they did that, probably in hopes that you would take it to their “stealership” to get it done. We have an 18’ Acadia and a Sierra, both of those are so simple to replace headlight lamps, just open the hood and nothing in the way.

    • @GarageKing
      @GarageKing  Рік тому +1

      Hey Thanks for the comment. Yup I have heard from a few others that GM did away with the access hole in the newer years. Personally I think it was to save a few dollars per vehicle. You have a good idea, and I think the same, if it were me I would try with the inner fender 1st, I would think that's a lot easier than taking off the front bumper !!!

    Wow! I wonder if it is this simple for all vehicles! Great tutorial! I think even I could handle this! I knew about not handling the new bulbs. I think it is because the oil on your fingers can cause the bulb to blow when it heats up... is that correct?

    • @GarageKing
      @GarageKing  3 роки тому +2

      Most are pretty simple. A lot of the headlight changing vids on UA-cam are like 10min, so I wanted to take a different approach and see how a quick one would do. Plus you know its good science as eventually the results of different tests get shared on MoneyTree. You are right its the oil from your fingers that cause the bulb to blow. These bulbs get super hot and any oil on them will boil and cause a variation in temperature in the bulb and the unequal temp causes them to blow. Very important not to touch the glass. Thanks for the great comment and happy Friday to you :)

    TO ANYONE DOING THIS JOB AND IT DOES NOT HAVE THAT ROUND ACCESS PANEL WITH A T20 TORX SCREW!
    well my friend, a 2015 is different. i just did one for a friend in my driveway (though i am a licensed chevy, and ex nissan tech and this has happened before), but the 2015 did not have that access panel. in place of it was a recessed piece of the wheel liner with a push clip in it where that screw's threaded clip would be, and no round access panel at all. to access the headlight i had to remove the 3 clips along the wheel well edge of the bumper (one push clip, 2 - t15 torx) and the push clip in that recessed part in place of where you had the access panel. i then pulled the front of wheel well liner out a bit towards the wheel, and was able to access the back of the light from there. the headlight bit was all the same as your video though.
