This is cool- strange I didn't realise that the 're-formed' Dino Jr played post-Barlow songs? (with the exception of The Wagon) Foo Fighters too? I suppose you know that Cobain genuinely asked Mascis to join Nirvana on drums before Grohl and according to Thurston Moore. Obviously he refused.
I think at one point Kurt wanted J to join Nirvana. Perhaps it was when they were looking for a new drummer. As you may know, J also happens to be a drummer. I think he did some drumming on one or more of his albums if I'm not mistaken. Of course, Nirvana ended up with Dave Grohl which was a well-deserved job placement for Mr. Grohl since he was (and still is) a great drummer. In fact, Grohl sometimes plays drums during live performances of his band Foo Fighters to this very day. As we all know J turned down Kurt's offer and I think it was for the best. Imagine if we were bereft of J's post-punk guitar heroics because he was the drummer for Nirvana Grohl's thundering rhythmic contributions to Nirvana albums because he the drummer for Nirvana! We would have all lost something very precious on both fronts and that would truly be a shame. J was meant to be a guitarist but that doesn't mean that he can't credibly play drums. As for Grohl, I opine that he is a better drummer than guitarist but if anyone is a fan of the Foo Fighters, then I think they can readily attest to his very competent rhythm guitar playing which has been consistent throughout the band's longtime existence.
@robotbytherivr J would have been good for nirvana's sound. Absolutely agree that dino Jr was a better band, but gotta give Nirvana props. They were a good band who never really asked to be crucified by the media and their fans.
Mike Watt was never in Dinosaur Jr. He played with "J Mascis + the Fog", but that was a while ago. This is Lou Barlow on bass, and he was in the original lineup. Go see my "Sweet Child O Mine(Djr Cover)" video for more info. Theres annotations that tell about their breakup.
Have they worked on Start Choppin? cool. Would be cool if they did Blowin it and maybe What Else is New?But with a new album coming, I will be happy anyway.
@Pete Testube why is there always this comment on every single live vid ever? like if you look around theres plenty of active crowds from this year lol
well ill tell you what, if j ever did join nirvana then dinosaur jr would be HUGE, but of course would be missing the catalog of music from 1991-1998, so that would only leave them with 3 albums for people to worship
definatley, 'nevermind' really took a big drum sound and it's one of the key factors that made the album so phenomenal.
12 years later. Murph is a great drummer.
@@Finsami71 He had a great teacher named J. Mascis.
HA! At least he was at this concert!
Lucky you
Seeing them in two days at Danforth Music Hall, and I will piss myself if they play this.
