It was a fun day and you handled it very well John. Recovery at the dock with the wind was good, you immediately reacted in a calm manner and did what was possible in the circumstances. Same once out of the marina, you would try and anticipate what will happen and be prepared, then if it was not quite as expected you quickly assessed and reacted. I think you are doing really well and a few more trips out in better conditions will help a lot with the sail handling and line management. Conditions were pretty tough for two handed and you did most everything solo, so I think it was a great success. Found some weak spots with boat setup, learned some lessons and have more tools for the next outing! Soon you will be ready to go out with truly experienced sailors that can teach you beyond my abilities, then you will have to share that knowledge with me.
Hey thank you so much, Rick. You're a good friend and I'm happy to have met you. Looking forward to meeting your wife and doing some sailing together with "Enjoy"!
I really like hearing this. I suppose that inspiring folks to reach out for dreams and live "best lives" is sort of my thing. So, mission accomplished! 🙂
As of 22:00, that is it, you are hook for life. Nothing will replace THAT moment. Main sheet and traveler... The boom will kiss you a few times and then you will never forget to tighten those up again LOL". That was a great episode, a great sail, I love to see you putting yourself "out there". Congratulations!
I wasn't aware of the "danger" I was in with that boom. Watching the video afterwards...I realize how easily that could've sent me for a swim. Oh well, it didn't and now I know. The boom has kissed my forehead more than once...and that was just here in the dock! Can't imagine the wind flinging it about and having it connect with my dome. Wow. I am hooked now! Thanks for being here with me. Love the camaraderie here in this community we're building. 🙂

This is the content I have been watching for! I absolutely loved watching you sail. It looks like so much fun. I can't wait to see where you go on your journey!

Proper lesson today then! Good to have a helping hand - this is my current predicament - can’t do this on my own! Sailing buddies are gold dust when you’re learning ⛵️
Well. I wouldn’t say that it is impossible. A working auto-helm is as good as a second person when getting the sails up and down. But the moral support is great too.
Oh thank you Lory. I still feel overwhelmed at times, but those feelings are lessening with each day. I’m so grateful that I’m able to make other folks feel happy.
Well. I do see what you mean. When you’re out there, it is concern that I feel. But stuff needs to be done so you simply bear down and get it done. It came naturally to me. I hope it always will. I just have to keep my head about me when things get hairy.
Love the crib boards there's nothing like beautifully crafted would items that you can put up in your boat and then use for playing cards to date having a fisher 25 the boards are very appealing a little bit out of my price range at the moment maybe there will be some half size & so half price at some stage. You look great on this video a lot more relaxed it looks like things are coming together a bit now congratulations. Sending Big Hugs 🤗
That's ok...I appreciate you being here and leaving a lovely comment! That is great too. I feel a lot better and more relaxed for sure. The anticipation of needing to do something previously undone is a little stressful, not to mention other stresses. But, back on track now and having fun creating the videos!
looks like a new boat inside!🙂 nice... beautiful cruising area..I just sat out 5 days in an anchorage with the wind blowing 20+ knots I was so excited for a "nice day" to move. When the day came, I left the anchorage and the wind died to 3-5 knots right on the nose...at least it was a pretty day!
good luck John. My nerves would be wrapped around my neck when I Get back. I will yell at you how the hunting is going on the ground. Hoping you are loving this John, I don't know you very well. I subscribed when you were vlog shawn James You just seem like your on another shelf. or you rather be home. Good luck my friend God Bless
John you are doing great it is always a learning curve I have been sailing/crewing for 20 years and still learning but you are doing great. I can see you are really enjoying such allways head to boat into the wind to raise the sail as well as lower such.
Thanks! Yes…that was the plan, to try to face the wind. It wouldn’t hold long enough to do so! Once I got the auto-helm going, it helped. Sailing solo in these conditions requires practice I can see! 😆
For the mystery leak filling your bilge. Have you checked your stuffing box? It might be flowing a bit too fast. Good job though, that’s a tuff wind for a solo sail
Yup. All is well there. This boat is extremely tight right now as far as leaks go. The bilge almost never goes off. It was just when I had filled the water tank and the foot pump was leaking. We’ll see though when I get the foot pump fixed and fill again. 🤙
Where can I get an Onyx brand personal floatation device at? I am going to my 1st sailboat on the 3rd of May. I have a cat named Onyx that I have have had for 15 years. We will be flying into SeaTac on the 3rd, then taking an Uber to my 1st sailboat, which is in Poulsbo. The Onyx named flotation device would be perfect for me.
@@JohnFrasersWildLife Ok, thank you. I am not buying anything online for a bit, as I am going to have to stop my mail going to my current address in Missoula. It is going to be quite a process for me to explain my new lifestyle and goals that I have for myself.
@@richardcook4007 Nice, thank you. I will look for a Bass Pro shop once I get my boat and can walk around Poulsbo and get familiar with Poulsbo, then look for that store. I am excited to start my new chapter in my life. I got a verbal promise that I am the only person that the boat is available to. Which allowed me to then commit and get my plane ticket and give my current job a 3 week notice to be able to replace my position at my job. My last day at work will be the 2nd of May.
I gotta say, I was happy to see that reef in place.
Oh ya. I knew that much. I had it reefed up before Rick came along. My Momma didn’t raise a fool…well maybe a little at times.
I get the feeling that old boat is happy to be off her moorings.
I’m getting that sense too. In the quiet of the night we chat to each other. I hear her.
