You guys are a month behind, the crew already docked in Miami did the boat show, two kids heading to Tonga and one is getting ready to live the van life
Not enough is ever said about Keith parenting skills. I liked that he let the young ones learn from their mistakes but he didn’t berate them. That’s a good man right there!
It is definitely is a good example to watch and see, great to see what good parenting looks like. Good reminder to take a deep breadth and not be so reactive with my littles.
Love Keith’s perspective after the sail situation. Instead of being angry, he viewed it as a learning experience for the kids. Good stuff. I love how the whole family interacts with each other, not a lot of fighting or animosity. Quality people.
@@paulkent5755you missed the point or not! - strong family unit, unlike many today, good on them, I’d like to think they have 10 million in the bank, and it wouldn’t make a difference to this exceptional family! Renee and Keith are remarkable role models.. all now passed onto their own kids..

Oohh, yes, great idea. There is a person in Maine who makes zippered pouches and bags out of old sails and they are awesome. Maybe you could send the ripped sail to her or someone else and they can make and sell a Zatara branded line of items!
That sail took a beating before it finally ripped in one spot to relieve the pressure. I'm guessing there is plenty of life left in the material for draw string bags. Love the life lesson that Keith spoke about. When I was in my very early 20’s my father let me take his sailboat to Catalina with my friends the first time. I was flying our spinnaker downwind and flying home. The wind picked up and I didn’t take it down. It split down the middle. When back home, I informed my father what happened and he said no worries take it to the sail shop and get it repaired. A week later it was fixed and the store advised me it was $500. I went to my father and informed him of the price and his remark was, “and?” I got it instantly that I had to pay for the sail. Lesson learned. 😂 Love your videos. When the kiddos leave and you need a an extra deckhand, give me a call.
Jack’s such a good, responsible kid, taking responsibility instead of blaming others. Zatara has a great group of people onboard. Refreshing to see the young ones step up. Keith and Renee are great parents.
@@KhouryNatalieTaking responsibility for his own action or inaction does in no way mean he should pay for the sail in order to be considered”taking responsibility” ! He didn’t blame anyone, he didn’t make excuses, he didn’t minimize what he did, he said, “it was my fault” in front of the world and not many people would do that !!! If Keith expected Jack to pay for the sail, there is no doubt in my mind he would do so, Keith runs a tight ship and he chose to take a mistake and use it as a lesson to teach his family a valuable lesson in sailing ! So yes, Jack did take responsibility!
Why when you have an issue with the wind shifting and gusting with a spinnaker luffing you continue to sail under auto pilot. Surely, you disengage the auto pilot immeadiately 0:10 and sail the boat… and shout all hands to ease the spinnaker sheet with the intention of dropping the spinnaker.
GREAT video as usual Renee!🧡And though I am sure Keith was upset about the sail situation, and that is okay that the younger ones experience that as well, It also is simultaneously an opport-unity for greater awareness. Thank you for being parents that can see and express into that. I appreciate you as human beings and as parents!
I was lucky enough to cross the Bahama Bank at night under a full moon and calm seas. In those days we followed contour lines for navigation. We were running 15 feet. . .if it went shallower we moved back, if it went deeper, we moved the other way. . .We had to stay shallow to keep from being run over by freighters. . .no radar on our boat in those days. Great memories, thanks for reminding me.

This is such a good video, and reminds me of when I learned the same thing. We were running downwind on our 150 genoa, and I was at the helm as dad slept, as everyone else was. The wind was getting stronger, and the boat was handling it better than me. I hated to wake dad, but I thought we needed to change sails. He came up and was looking at everything as I handled the helm, which was getting more difficult. He thought we could keep going, but at that moment we blew the sail. Like you guys, all heck broke loose. We recovered the sail, and put up our storm sail, which was good as shortly after we hit the storms. Like you guys, my dad never criticized what I did, and later we agreed that "next time" we will react better. It was exciting, and I learned alot. Now 30 years later, it is still vivid in my memory of that night. We had so many other memories learned while sailing, which is how we learn. Great video, keep sailing!

Cabrinha Giveaway 14M! Thanks for a great blend between education and entertainment years into the production. Been following since the monohull days and look forward to each episode!
Keith has some remarkable patience. My father would have had me pay out of my pocket for a portion of the sail only because he could not fire me or he would have made me clean the boat with a toothbrush from stem to stern. He would tell me that you don't learn from mistakes if there are no consequences. I remember cooking steaks on the barbecue one summer. I got distracted and they burned. He made me go and spend my allowance on take out for the family so I would learn to take my assignments seriously. Then he had me eat one of the burnt steaks to hammer the point home. I have never burnt another steak. Another great video Renee.
---Do you know what the mistake was? --As a child, I preferred my hot dogs barbecued burned. I learned to cook in the Boy Scouts. Early on, I may have eaten one meal raw, but never burned.
One way to avoid that situation is to set the autopilot to steer to a wind angle rather than a heading. If the breeze shifts, the boat will turn to maintain the TWA (or AWA), and most pilots will alert you if the course alteration is greater than, say, 20 degrees.
Cabrinha Giveaway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry about the sail but I love that you, Keith, pointed out the lesson. Sooo important and money, yes a lot, comes and goes. Cabrinha Giveway 12 Love the video and story!! have been following your voyage for the past two years and can't wait for my blue water cruising to start!
I watched your explanation of the sail event, as well as Jack's. I'm slightly older with different experiences with my sons, so I'm taking liberties. Your sons are now learning that Dad is not always going to be there, and they need to rely on their own judgement. A "crucible" moment in both their lives...
Skill, not judgement was lacking. A small turn on the wheel would have returned things to normal. Sail trim would have brought them back to course. If not, a sail change was needed.

A great lesson for Jacko to experience on the eve of going for his captain’s licence.
A tremendous amount of knowledge was gained.
Glad you made it home safely otherwise guys.
💗
Cabrinha Giveaway - Medium would be awesome. You guys rock. Sorry for the bad luck this go. You inspire so many people- At the end of the day, I believe all that matters is the impact we make on other people and you're making your mark. Kudos. And thank you. Fantastic perspective on the life lessons. Wow. Rich Braun
S--t happens as we say in Oz, it’s how you recovered from this that truly was of importance. You all came together so quickly to assist, you prevented another major issue from occurring, you knew how to remain safe whilst grabbing the sheets out of the water, and went straight into your roles for bringing in that sail, these were the lessons you were taught from young, and now know from all that experience. You did great post event, you remained calm and owning responsibilities, Keith and Renee and kids, it’s a proud moment in time, your home safe and sound! 🎉congratulations..
I love this family so much. Prayers for calm winds and easy waters from here on!
You guys are great parents in the way you are and have been bringing up your kids. Keith you have even made an impression on our 22 month old boy Finn who points at you and says “Keith Keith” all the best from West Oz 🤙🏼
"Cabrinha Giveaway" a medium size(9-10m) kite would be a dream come true. Wow, what an adventure you're going through.
Always educational. Yes, great learning experience for the kids. Everyone looking on through this venue get to see your powerful examples to learn from, responses, excellent. Verbal communication, awesome outcome. Family dynamics, always, again, positive for each to unexpected situations. Thank you guys for your great vlogs in sailing as as family in unity regardless of events along the way. It’s great to see! Great vlog again Renee! Otherwise, I’m at a loss for words but thoroughly impressed again at how you guys travel and travel through situations as you do, for everyone’s good 💞.
I would have loved to come meet y’all in Miami were it not for our own travel schedules. The timing didn’t allow, I’m disappointed at the missed opportunity. Wishing you guys well in your coming journeys. Thank you again for taking the time it takes to makes, prepare and share these vlogs we so look forward to and enjoy. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️+ without exaggeration. From SC, welcome back to the US.

CABRINHA giveaway 14M. Sailing Zatara is one of my three favorite sailing yt channels! Filming and editing quality is top notch!
Maybe next time say “ sailing zatara IS my favorite yt channel “ you might get a few more nods, 😉
Fair play chap!
Thanks for your wisdom Keith. Right, all in timing, experiences and learnings. You did good.. 👍 The kids did good. 👍

It was nice bumping into you salty sailors in the Bozetown airport :)
Wishing you all fair winds, following seas, and fresh un-tracked Montana pow'!

Hey Guys, I am so happy I started watching your feed. I loved the port of Saudia Arabia & Egypt episode so much that I decided to go back to the beginning to binge watch from the beginning and now I'm on episode 76 which means I am not watching this one yet but I wanted to comment and hope you guys keep going so I can catch up to your current adventure. I'm binge watching from the beginning to learn more and at the same time you are fulfilling my dream just by me watching you and your family go on these amazing adventures. Thank you soooo much. God bless your family. Happy Sailling. Your fan from CA
Accidents happen, thankful all are safe. Accepting accountability for your responsibilities makes for an experienced, trustworthy, and honorable individual. Thanks Keith for letting them grow through experiences without holding grudges.
Cabrinha Giveaway 14M!
Thanks for a great blend between education and entertainment years into the production. Been following since the monohull days and look forward to each episode!
Cabrinha Giveaway - size 11M
Best channel ever!!!
Very nice presentation and explanation of the instruments!
I feel like I already know what will be happening. Your kids’ channels post the future.😂😂 So glad you all made it safely to Florida. Welcome home!❤
19:55 segment = an "all hands on deck" moments. Good teamwork. YIKES.
--0:02, "OMG! Holy ****" says it all. I've heard that often.
Cabrinha giveaway 12M
Sorry about the sail ripping! Happy to see you guys made it to florida all in one piece 😂 have a great spring.
Jack is a man now. He recognized the mistakes that were made, what should have been done and he owned it. Good on you Jack.
No one was hurt and like snapping a rubber band on your wrist… lesson learned. My size for the kite is “Big Ass”. I’m 6’5” 245 lbs. Have fun in Montana you two.
Cabrinha Giveaway 9 meter 🤙🏼
Love your channel!! ⛵️We’ve been watching since the beginning! 💙
I remember when you left Florida in the monohull. And went to the Bahamas. Long time ago it seems. Keep on floating. ⛵
"Cabrinha Giveaway” Thank you guys for this, you have a lovely family and love your adventures.
I loved the bit about the instrument readings. I watched it a couple times too make sure I retained what you were saying. I appreciate the family journey (love you guys) but really geek out on the information and tech tips.
Renee, you did a better job explaining that nautical stuff than my US Navy Navigation instructors. Bravo Zulu!
Keith: good strategy about kids learning to be more decisive!(surpprised you have instilled more opportunity for them to learn as theyn grew up...) be Well!
Such great parental guidance from mom and pop!
Key words there...situational awarness, always and all the time. That is the exact reason why I take my daughter who's grown up in central european city life up to Finland both for winter and summer and sailing
It's even more important when you are tired and nearing the end of a journey. It's easy to get complacent.
Glad y'all are back in the U.S. I'm sure you've heard about the couple that left here, VA, on their boat and are missing. 😔 3 guys from Grenada arrested..
Cabrinha giveaway 🏄
Dad Mom! I'm so used to watching Jack or Finn's videos before I go to bed. Finally, subscribed to yours - great to finally see and hear from the parents of these great kids of yours. Love the scenery and I've actually learned a bit about sailing- wow that sail cost around $8k I had no idea. Good learning experience always have to be thinking ahead "proactive" b on your toes not just in sailing but in business too- lkg for bumps n the road. 👍👍
Cabrinha Giveway 12
Love the video and story!! have been following your voyage for the past two years and can't wait for my blue water cruising to start!
Renee and Keith you guys DID AN AWESOME JOB HERE IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL THING TO SEE THIS FAMILY COME AT ONCE everyone came running and really no one was injured and I love the way you both handled it and explained politely at the expense of 8 Grand😮 Keith really was so good to the boys thank you for being such great parents and hopefully they replace it for free.. hopefully I know its already been replaced .
Thank you for sharing your travels/journey. 10% of life is what happens to you and 90% how you react to it ~ Swindoll. Safe and healthy travels.
Now onto the next chapters. The boys have become handsome young men, and Kate a beautiful young woman
Expensive Lesson but harmless (no injury, no damage to boat) but this will impact them for life. To be early problem solvers that are first to arrive to go into action. Priceless🎉 Blessings😊
Bummer! But things happen, and it's a learning experience. Most importantly, everyone is safe!! Keith is the man
Thank you for the explanation of the chart plotter.
Can you make a short video of that part for future quick reference please?
Loved this video. Thank you for sharing your family with us every week!🥰
Kudos to your style and conversational excellence. Welcome back home...
Welcome back. I wish I was able to attend your party in Miami but I had to travel to crazy California. You guys are great.
Love the transparency!!!
"Cabrina Giveaway" 14M.
I was born in Greece living in Canada now, and I just love your show, especially when you all were down in the mediterranean, made me miss home so much. Be safe, and thank you so much for all the amazing videos!
A great lesson for Jack who plans to get his captain license!!! Great parenting shows that he recognized what he could have done differently!
Cabrinha Giveaway 14M!!!
My son would love one!!!! Love your videos!!!! Happy sailing.
Good job, parents. Love the way you both handled this disaster and your kids.
OUCH
Watching That Sail Tear Was Painful But Everyone Being Safe Is A Breath Of Fresh Air.
That Was A Painful Learning Lesson!
But It Will Sail Another Day!
Great video as usual. Thanks for taking us along.
Keith
I hope and PRAY this video isn't creatively edited and your blow-up cut. Because I CANNOT BELIEVE how amazingly well you handled that catastrophe! I'm not 100% sure exactly how long ago that was. But what I am 100% sure of is that my dad WOULD STILL BE YELLING AT ME! AND I could hear him all the way from Florida to Montana! LOL!! (But for real!) I just want to say that I think you handled it so amazingly well! Good job! You two truly are amazing parents, and it shows in your children every week!! Thank you for continuing to share your lives with us!!
Big hugs to each of you!
Thanks for going over the chart!!
I like how you know him well enough to know the questions to ask so that he can explain as this helps him formulate his plan of attack…simply by verbalizing it. Amrite Keith!?
I like how you put the date on the center of the screen and then the place under it. Nice touch!
