Excellent video. What I use for line of sight from center dot to center dot is an elastic band. Works perfectly. I can easily see what terrain the line of sight passes through.
Looks like at 27:33 the German unit should spot the Baker unit. LOS is running right down the hexes and the rules say IIRC that if both sides of a spline have blocking, then blocked. But if only one side does, then LOS is not blocked. The hex with the logs is no blocking based on the orders for the both units.
Thank you for that clear explaination, it was very much welcome to help understanding the rules and pleasant to watch. I think i would love to play this game, as it would be my very first solo game, do you think it would be a good idea/choice to start with ?
@@farpointgamingdirect Fixed? Just bought a copy and the counters quality wise are the worst I had ever in any game. Difficult to punch and prone to damage the others in the process and the printed sheet of the counters is so easy to scratch and it tends to unglue from the thicker core. Card backs have colour discrepancy and so on. I didnt play the game yet so no judgment there but the quality of the components is bad for the price payed, no way around that.
not directly... orders affect the chances to be hit or spotted, cross-referenced with terrain. It can be assumed that soldiers do make an effort of using nearby concealment/cover, if their orders do not force them towards more reckless action.
I think that when a german soldier moves into a rough terrain, their order should change to a duck back, then hide. Also, you should have checked if that was a dummy chit when they spotted the us soldier.
The Auto Change from Rough Terrain/Duck Back is only if the Movement Order is Sprint. However, if an Enemy Character moves into Cover Terrain, a TQC is made to see if it's Duck Back..May have missed it (and the "dummy check").
@@tonyholt5597 I am not sure if that is true for the germans, it is for the u.s. soldiers. Check the rules 10.13 for the German duck back order, item number 4.
@@dougkalinousky2754 That is, indeed, what it says in the Rulebook, but in discussions with the Game's Designer, he has verified that Rule 10.13 #4 should have had "if the Order is Sprint".
Any AI bot solo system where the logic is decided ONLY by throwing a dice ... sucks frankly. Compare this to the programmed instructions found on the Conflict of Heroes solo expansion cards and you see why I love John Butterfield games and not this kind of complete random stuff.
The dice rolling is a special rule for turn 1 in this scenario. If you go to episode 3, the normal sequence is to draw a card for each enemy character, and it'll list an order based on cover/morale state.
Sorry, not meaning to be cynical and I appreciate the video but man it seems like a ton of dice rolling, chit checking and card referencing just to find that the German counter moves a hex in the #6 direction. But I guess you get a lot of that type of thing with a solitaire tactical system.

I use a ID badge lanyard that has a pull out string
I use an Army Painter Target Lock laser line projector.
I use a piece of thin string for spotting/los. A laser pen also works well.
Just started to learn this - so far you are doing good and clear explanations. Thanks😊
Use a rubber band for your LOS checks...SO much easier..just cut it, and stretch it from hex to hex.

OK, I'm late but I'm getting hooked now. Good job. The second edition is coming...

Great video Tony. You're a natural .
Excellent video showing how to play. Thanks.
Awesome, I'm learning on Vassal with your video Thanks!
Hello Tony, thanks for the great playthrough! I'm trying to learn Combat! with my son and your video is super useful, thanks!
Anyone got an idea what it would cost to get these maps mounted? Thanks again for this. I am learning to play and couldn't without your videos.
Thanks for the vid! I'm gonna have to buy this aren't I? Yes, I am.
Very useful and precise! Thank you very much!
Thank you for making these play throughs. This game seems really special but man the components quality vs it's price is a real bummer for me
The issue with the components has been fixed. I recently ordered a copy and everything was fine

I got a set recently and the components seem fine. Must've been a problem with older prints.
Any idea why the hedges are not on hexsides?
Does combat! Have stance rules? Prone/crouch/stand, etc.

Do terrain features block line of sight by entire hex or the actual physical feature printed on the map?
How can Pvt Johnson be spotted by a dummy counter?
This is getting tense.

@@tonyholt5597 Thanks for checking. Now to restart the scenario and do the movement correctly. I did think the germans were moving too slowly.
£135 for a game full of misprinted counters and misprinted Rules....Ummm?
Dave Duvalier This was on sale 40% off at the time you posted. And the components have been fixed.
@@farpointgamingdirect Thank you for information
@@fenthedog why is this game so expensive, are there alot of components ?

@@gkrockover Also Tony was going slow for our benefit. I suspect when playing the game it would move faster.
