    🪺Our Nesting Story:
We had a house finch family fully fledge in a spot on our house in May of 2022, and that’s when our nest watch obsession began! At the time, we did not have any cameras set up, but I would take photos with my phone on a selfie stick to monitor the growth of the babies! You can see a short video of this nest here: • Thorne's First NestWat...
In March of 2023, our house finches returned and we set up a camera to personally observe them. Mom laid 5 eggs, but unfortunately in the middle of the night, a snake infiltrated the nest and ate all 5 eggs. Since then, I’ve been doing research on how I can make a safer area for the nest area in case they decided to come back.
Thankfully, our house finches did decide to return! We documented their first brood all on this channel, so go check out all of those videos showing nest building, egg laying, incubation, hatching of the eggs and raising the brood!
After our house finch chicks fledged, we cleaned out their old nest and were absolutely surprised when bluebirds started visiting the nest area! Bluebirds are usually cavity nesters, and seeing as our nest area isn’t necessarily a cavity, we were doubtful they’d go through with nesting here…but wow weren’t we wrong!
The bluebirds did decide to nest here and we had the amazing opportunity to livestream from nest building to babies fledging! We also have a playlist of our favorite highlights, including some pretty amazing egg drama involving another bird entirely! You can check that out here: • Bluebird 1st Brood of ...
Now in 2024 we have had our first successful bluebird brood and are anticipating our next!
If you made it all the way to this point, please comment “💙💙” to show some love to our bluebird parents!
🌙 Due to a previous nocturnal experience involving a predator, this livestream does not run overnight. Although we have done what we can to make the nest area as safe from predators as possible, there are no guarantees. We understand that this is nature’s course, but it can be difficult to witness and we want to be sensitive to that, especially since we ourselves cannot monitor the livestream overnight. Besides, the birds are sleeping at night and all the fun things happen during the daytime!
🪫Another reason we prefer to pause the stream overnight is to give our streaming systems a break. We have a very small, basic setup for this stream, and we’ve decided it is best to give it a break overnight so that our fun daytime streams can be the best they can be!
🌅The stream will always return upon sunrise! (Barring any potential technical difficulties).
