this song perfectly encapsulates the feeling of checking every door in the town to find one resident then after checking all the doors finding a map to the town telling you where the door you were looking for is only for you then to realise that you were checking doors too late in the day and have to walk back to the house to sleep before interacting with the door you were looking for, only to give up shortly after and open sonic the hedgehog figures in-game for the next 30 minutes
The Dreamcast has a very special place in my heart. Even though I mostly played on the PS2 back then, the Dreamcast and Sega in general just had that certain vibe to it. Truly dreamy…

As most people have already said, this track sets the mood and atmosphere of the beginning of the game perfectly. It’s so masterfully crafted. This track literally is the feeling of “lost” and “loss”. Overlapping thoughts of what Ryo went through, thoughts of the loss of his Father, thoughts of regret that he could have done. All of these emotions are what Ryo are going through. And not only that but with us as the player in our own personal lives.

One of those emotions you just can't describe. Ok I know that the guy just lost his dad and all, but the vibe in the music is something much more ambiguous - that's a sound I love in music. I forgot about this piece, thanks for uploading!
I also feel there's something hidden behind Shenmue's music, especially behind this theme. Unnerving, restless, but focussing and calming as well. Like a fog wave.
I was 17 when I got Shenmue and turned 37 this August. You know you're getting older but it doesn't feel that long ago. Mentally, physically, I still feel every bit as young thankfully.
Did not have money, was dependant on my mother, had to go to school, do homework....but compared to adulthood i felt much more free and happier as a kid, playing with my friends after school, playing the few video games my mom could afford with my brother at home, waiting for her to come home from work. Now i have "all the money" to buy any console, any game, just what i wished as a kid but its just not the same, not so engaging 20 years later sadly. As we just borrowed the Dreamcast for 1 month in exchange of our PS2, I still remember after reading the magazines about Shenmue 2 and its playthrough for years. Imagining what is like to be to continue. I know its said many many times but still ...it was a much more innocent and joyful time.
I fell you bro. Tho I never had shenmue, but I had a dreamcast and other games. I am currently experiencing it for the first time almost 25 years after the release.
This game changed my life, and this song really makes me feel nostalgic, such a simple but deep tune. I was already a little bit interested in Japan at that time and after playing this game, I started to think I should at least try to go there for some internship. I ended up doing so in 2007 during 3 months, loved it so much that I decided to go back again for another internship and as an exchange student back in 2008. I’ve been living in Japan since 2008. There are equally good things and things that I don’t like in this country, but I think overall it has been a good experience.
This piece has sent chills down my spine more recently than from when I first played it as a child. The only piece of fiction I have experienced which captures in such harrowing detail the feeling of being in a depression. The aimless running around trying to live a normal life, a life day by day in the depths of it all. In the background you feel like something isn’t right but you are living in denial. You can’t possibly comprehend the calamity of your situation and how nothing will ever be the same. A hauntingly masterful video game.
I remember playing recently and I spent hours roaming just the very beginning parts, knocking on doors, wandering. I deeply fantasized about the idea that this was the land of the dead. It added this layer of sadness and strange emotional bond with the environment, the people. It's so strange to imagine this to be a world stuck in time. The way conversations are so quick, sharp & limited it's like everyone's in a daze, asleep to themselves in a dream world. The way that no one ever helps the grandmother unless you show up is so heart wrenching from this perspective. The only one awake, and as you play you stir them awake for a brief time before they resume themselves back to sleep. As if playing a copy of this game, creates an instance of that reality, bringing it to life for a time. This haunting music that consistently plays throughout adds to the surreal nature of the melancholic atmosphere/environments. I just want to get lost for hours in a dream world with this exact surrealness to it, embracing a distant, soul wandering journey.
I partially owe Shenmue for influencing me to migrate to Japan some 10 years ago. Shemue, Tenchu: Stealth Assassins, and a few manga and anime. Still, when I walk around a new area of Japan, particularly a countryside area, this music always plays in my mind. Listening to this music makes my heart ache like no other form of music.
Most chilled tracks ever, love it. Shenmue wanted you to live in its world, feel everything around; to take your time and digest. I could listen to these all day long.

Playing Shenmue for the first time back in 2006. My family had recently moved house, leaving troubles behind and having somewhat of a fresh start. That didn't last long, maybe a few months.. but those few months were great. I'm always brought back to that time when I listen to this. Beautiful piece of music. Thankfully, all these years later I'm in a great place, but the world of Shenmue is a great place to travel back to here and there.

My dad played this game when I was little he later let me have the whole Dreamcast system it was so many collections but this one stuck out , 6 or 7 years old playing this game beating up the men in the bars 😭 walking through their village area playing with the cat 🐈⬛ this brings so many memories , now that my dad transitioned 🙏🏽in 08 I always come back and listen to this . My first game system , I’ll never forget💜
I have a friend who chose to transition some years back. She found life real tough at the time but we all supported her decision and now she's in a much better place!!
This remembers me of the time when I was like.. 7 / 8 years old. Didn't know how to beat the game but collecting some figures, walking through the cities there and play this game with my cousin on rainy days. Those days were great tho! And don't know why, but the calming soundtrack just feels like the days when me and my mother went shopping on saturday mornings and walked through the forest to get to the little town here in germany to buy stuff etc. Just loved those days! Especially when there were rainy days. Came home from shopping with my mum, turned on our dreamcast and played this game while drinking tea or something. G r e a t! I was in korea last year and I dont know why, but I had nearly the same feeling there because of the atmosphere of some old towns! Shenmue is a very important game in my life!
I love this background song that often played during my time playing the first Shenmue game as a teenager on my Dreamcast. It gave me so many memories. Thank you making an extended version of this song on your video. Yu Suzuki gave me so much joy with Shenmue in the earliest 2000s.
I just walked at an abandoned neighborhood I used to live in while this played, I got sad knowing the fact they will be demolishing the place soon. All those memories will be gone.
You get it. Things have memories too. I also feel devastated whenever a place important to my life is demolished with total indifference towards the dear memories it carries.
Ahhh, I was 17 when this released in the USA. I remember the Official Dreamcast Magazine with Ryo on the cover and a demo disc showing a movie 'What's Shenmue'. I need a time machine. I have to my knowledge all the Shenmue music on my pc thanks to Shenmue Dojo! and Emuparadise.

This is like the child of Silent Hill's White Noiz and Chopin's Funeral March. A soothing, yet tragic theme. The guy just lost his father to someone far stronger than him. Yet, he is confident about his quest of vengeance that has yet to be concluded to this day.

That didn't last long, maybe a few months.. but those few months were great. I'm always brought back to that time when I listen to this. Beautiful piece of music.
Thankfully, all these years later I'm in a great place, but the world of Shenmue is a great place to travel back to here and there.
The quality is godly a fresh breath of air to my ears
This made me easily sleep...so relaxing
"knock, knock"
"Perhaps they're out?"
I see. 🤔
Knock knock should't bother them 😁 ever met a guy named Charlie?

@@sandman8920 So yseterday I was out so I see a guy with a leather coat on so I ask him do you know a guy called Charlie he look so dazed and confused so thankfuly he has play that b4 as well!.. so on that day?. snow and the rain?
Listening while watching the snow fall outside.
The game that changed my life. Thank you Yu Suzuki.
This is the sound of gaming heaven. Absolutely nostalgic and heartbreaking. :')
It does make you have a strange feeling alright. Like you're able to place yourself back to the time you played it so long ago.
lying in bed while listening to this song and contemplating the mistakes you've made
forgive yourself!
It hits differently
Yeah this beat makes me reflect.
@@Supreme-gu1jz exactly. depressed because I was too late for her & she found someone else now I wanna commit suicide

I want to live there :) This game is so unique. I got it for the Dreamcast in December 2000. I love this soundtrack, it takes me back, how it felt to play it for the first time. One of my absolute favorite games.
Best game I played in my life time :-)
The sound of Nostalgia :-)
Day 1 music of a great game.
Condolences to your Dad.. 🕊️ I am just starting to know abt the OST and hope to play the game one day if possible!

"Meow!"...
Oh how i love this game
This music was so Eerie the first time i heard it coming out of the house. But it sucked me in Immediately.
This is the type of music that you would walk around outside at like 6 am when it’s really cold.
Very true man I do that every year for sure..

New Resident Evil Save Room Music I dig it, I dig it.
A cloudy day
Mister RON! Snowy day for me 😊
Mister RON! Nah, on a rainy day.
Always will be my favourite game, I love the music also, no other game will beat shenmue, a wonderful game
This and silent hill have some of the best ambience music
For sure
I just walked at an abandoned neighborhood I used to live in while this played, I got sad knowing the fact they will be demolishing the place soon. All those memories will be gone.
You get it. Things have memories too. I also feel devastated whenever a place important to my life is demolished with total indifference towards the dear memories it carries.
Playing Shenmue 3 and all I can think about is Shenmue 1. What an masterpiece.
1 was also 17 when Shenmue came out, the game and this music always evokes a bittersweet feeling of lost youth, I also had the Dreamcast magazine too
I was 16. Amazing times 🙂😊
Me too (17).
@Boxing Bro I had a friend who had it. He made me play it. Thankful to this day. Good times.
@@collydub1987 We're getting old, can you believe it? I'll be 40 next year! Where does the time go? When I hear this track I'm taken back to those days of my life. The youthfulness, care free living, hanging out with my friend every week end.
This transported me back in time
great game very misunderstood in the 1999 :(
Barret yea some ppl didn't understand it..

"Is it true that Shenmue 3 is out already!?!"
"NO!!!,it ain't you imbecile,it got delayed until November 19th 2019"
"I see.....thank you very much"
This game is Bob Ross levels of therapeutic.
beautiful music....
This chills me so hard
Best game of all time
I can hear the cat meowing.
I always listen to this song when I'm out and about or just going for a joy ride.. almost feel like yo hasuki and asking on that day do u remember the snow and the rain..❤
Who here thinks Ryo should go back to take care of his grandmother and marry nazomi while at the same time training in his father's dojo to be skilled enough to finally take out Lan Di. Shenmue 4 .... back in Japan.
i love this for study
This reminds me of when you first get into Yamanose, and you spend almost all your money trying to get all of the gachapons for sonic the fighters and virtua fighter. Such somber and chill memories. :3
It feels like home!! ❤
I'll play this music while walking down dobuita street in Yokohama yokosuka.
I was 16 when I played shenmue 1 on my dreamcast now Im 32 oh my god what A feeling Im having right now that shenmue 3 is comming!!!! I Realy realy realy Miss my Sega Dreamcast !

It will be interesting to replay Shenmue I and II after so long time for me. Can't wait and listen to the music.
Just don't play 3
@Colin Anderson it definitely wasn't what we wanted, but at least we got it.hope 4 will fix it.but also the new anime
I went running in my country park listening to this yesterday. Was really foggy and quiet and I recommend it
Thank you to heaven and back 🙇🏾♂️
Cada vez que solía jugar Shenmue me viene una enorme nostalgia y al jugarlo es como si lo hubiera jugado desde ya hace muchos años.
This is like the child of Silent Hill's White Noiz and Chopin's Funeral March. A soothing, yet tragic theme. The guy just lost his father to someone far stronger than him. Yet, he is confident about his quest of vengeance that has yet to be concluded to this day.
I was doing my adult paperwork while this was in the background so i would't get distracted... and I went to reach my Dreamcast controller, and I wasn't in Kansas anymore...
🥺🥺🥺🥺 pure nostalgia...
So peaceful
Its make me sad. I miss the old days, its reminds me of playing the epic game.
Me too. A lot.
