@@JoeDorian1992 it's in your hands to be happy again, the world has shaped us down, it's up to us to find that fearless and worryless joyful inner child we lost along the way. We *get* to experience shenmue now, I wasn't allowed nor could we afford consoles in the 90s, I missed out on all of those great games. And I missed out on so much good music. I remember in the 90s where I could afford maybe 1 album each month and a game each birthday or xmas. Now I have basically free access to most of gaming, music, tv and movie history, while enjoying living in a world that is more healthy and more open than the 90s. I am a nostalgic being and love the 90s (and 80s and 70s) but hey, we are living in the days of future nostalgia RIGHT NOW! Embrace it and blessings to you
The one thing these songs remind me of, is that Shenmue was a game that was never meant to be rushed through by the player. Yu wanted you to soak in the day to day of the world, embrace, view, interact and observe every little moment of this wonderful universe, almost getting you to live in it. These tracks helped 100% with that. It's easy to look at games today and see people rushing through them, eager to move onto the next big game. I miss the days when true massive AAA experiences were more rare and when they arrived, you lived and breathed them. Amazing tracks, thanks for the uploads.
Very good write-up. Shenmue is very much about patience and the journey. I've heard not-so-good things about 3 and I wish that wasn't the case. The modern gaming paradigm of microtransactions and nickel-and-diming practices really doesn't line up with what Yu Suzuki was trying to do.
It is satisfying how even I as someone who has first played it in 2023 (and viewing play throughs in 2018) can enjoy the world so much. Yes, it is aged and obviously has limitations, but these are part of what make it so beautiful. It is very obviously a game and doesn't hide it, while still having so much heart, even in the english dub. I can hear all the negative things people could point out about it, but I choose to embrace these flaws as part of the time capsule and also the fact that games that don't look like games but real life don't do it for me.
Great way to convey how most of us felt with these games in 2000 , slow , truly immersing yourself in the world , getting lost in the world … I remember playing this from Christmas Day of 2000 into the the next couple of weeks man what a journey . Compared to todays stuff it doesn’t stand a chance everyone once to stream and click and not stop and experience it anymore , that’s why these games will always be the best
I was only 5 years old at the turn of the millennium and even I think those days were legitimately better than now. We are going south and all of us know it.
Incredible soundtrack, still my favourite Videogame soundtrack of all time. This particular track has a soothing, effortlessly restrained, 80's vibe. Love the layering of the composition, simple yet brilliant
Nowadays they don't hire so often people that can compose songs like that (mostly indie games do, but not triple-A). They prefer hiring people that will bring some good attention even before the release (like movie composers and such). I was hired once to compose for a game, and I really loved doing it. I followed this classic game's style, and the whole team loved the tracks, but unfortunately, the game was canceled. It was a small indie game (I still have the soundtracks). I personally love old game music and I think soundtracks like this are a lot more remarkable than those ambient movie-like soundtracks ( I'm talking about those non-musical pieces of soundtrack that are so common nowadays to set the environment).
This literally makes me feel so nostalgic that it literally hurts my stomach. Hope someday we can play Shenmue 4 and get to the end of the series. Hopefully Yu will not retire before pleasing all the worldwide Shenmue community. #LetsgetShenmue4
