Responding to own comment to get it out of the "comments not responded to" queue. Notified UA-cam, not fixed yet. :)
You didn't included the guitar portoin, did you?
I just found your channel by recommendation and damn dude your production quality is great. Nice animations, you don't talk too slow neither to fast, great job overall.
Thanks Das! Appreciate the kind comment!
Cute little Mic. Great idea from Rode. Gonna be a competitor to the Yeti and others. Thanks for making this video.
Thanks! I think you’re right it’s going to be quite the competitor. I really do like this little mic. I’m going to have to put it up against my Shure SM 7B and see what kind of quality difference I have. If that little $99 mic meets the quality of the $400 mic I’ll be surprised. 😁
Nice review - soundin' good!
Thank you! Looking forward to your review! 👍
Great video. And this mic was just what I was looking for. Needed a small mic for speech.
It's a good one, and I think best buy for what you get in March 2020.
Kevin, thank you -- that was informative and fun.
Very welcome!
Great Review Kevin. I like how "You can pull it off" & "Screw thing's down" 😆 Enjoy Spain :-)
For sure Spike! And thank you. Spain was AWESOME!
In the UK we have gone back into a full lockdown so I can't access my office for the moment to bring a mic home, so I bought one of these mics to use at home for the moment and it sounds fantastic for its price range. The build quality is excellent too. A real gem of a find.
Thanks and I do agree. It’s an amazing mic for what you pay.
Yeah, that sounds FANTASTIC.
I think so too.
Excellent review, thank you!!
Glad it was helpful!
Wow, now that's a great sounding microphone at a great price point !
Thanks! Yeah, I think so too.
I was looking for usb c mic for my iPad Pro. Many thanks for your review 👍
You bet!
Thank you! Really useful!
👍👍👍
Thank you for this! it was very helpful. I'm trying to get the Rode NT-USB, but I can't find it anywhere near me, all out of stock, but I've found the mini. I still like the sound of the original better, but the fact that the mini is half the price is really tempting.
That's a tough one. I've always felt better in the end by waiting for what I wanted. Shipping and stock are crazy right now in the world.
The handling noise was pretty low, too. Good job, Rode, and nice review! :)
They did really good those Aussie folks. :)
Love your enthusiasm and transparency with feelings concerning the mic, refreshing. I am curious about your setup with the MixPre. Can using the headphone jack as an input source ultimately cause damage to the microphone? I like the form factor and can totally appreciate the USB value, but my connection preference is XLR or 3.5mm connection as you did in this demonstration, but want to be sure it does not cause problems in the future. For what it's worth, it sounds fantastic!
I see no problems with using the headphone jack. It’s an output so no prob there. Know what you mean about XLR. I’m have say the USB to computer is super clean.
Another great video Kevin!
As always, thank you David!
Nice review! Good work brother!
Thanks Ashton!
Nice review Kevin. I got one of these for a one off voice over job. I wasnt totally impresssed once i plugged in the headphones. I seemed to hear every noise outside my room (not soundproofed) and even the taps on the keyboard. I'm no sound engineer but given the pattern is cartoid only, I thought it would be a tighter field. Would what I can hear from the headphones also record in the DAW (I'm using logic pro x). I'm sure there are settings to filter unwanted sounds out but I just needed simple. It's whole mystery world to me.I guess I'll have to give it a physical trial
Throw some blankets down. Also, you might have the level set so high on either the mic or the computer that it’s way overdriven.
@@BasicFilmmaker Understood. As the rode mini doesn't have an input level to speak of then, I'll assume the input needs to be set at -3 or 4.in the application. Seems a bit low. Anyway, I'm trying to educate myself on a few things here. I've chosen Logic Pro X as my DAW. It's just a matter of riding the learning curve in just about everything sound. Thanks for getting back to me so quick, Cheers Jack
Just ordered mine! Hope it also sounds good with guitar 🎸
Huh! Haven't tried it with a guitar. Let me know how it goes - also play guitar.
I picked the wrong day to use "$99" as my drinking game phrase... ;P
Great review for the mic. Might have to take a good look at it for my casting needs. Thanks for the info!
Same! I won't be sober until next week.
Insanejughead 😂😂😂
Mr.Non-Descript.com LOL! Thanks. Pretty nice for $99. :)
What's up, one question.....I want to buy a gaming microphone, I'm between the fox and the Rode NT-USB Mini, which one do you recommend because it would only be for gaming and if the distance between the microphone and me would affect these two microphones when communicating with my playmates?
I would like one of those for voice overs on my gaming videos that's cool I need a mic bad.
Not a gaming video creator, but I would think it would work well for that.
Kewl little mic. Now if only I needed one.
Yeah right? So much cool stuff out there, so much stuff I don’t need to buy right now. 😁
Fantastic mic. Love it.
Me too!
I’m so curious about this thing. It really seems like Rose has pulled out all the stops over the past year. 🤯
For sure. All of us audio enthusiasts keep going, "Wait! What? Another killer mic?" :)
I’m buying one 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Cool. I'm impressed with this.
Why did I want to yell, “HENG TEN!!!” When you were “this far” from the microphone? LOL!!!
Mr Heng!! Hello sir! LOL! Are you going to NAB this year again?
Kevin - The Basic Filmmaker , maybe. I’m registered, but will know mid March.
@@mrheng562 Sweet! Hopefully we'll see you there.
What a wonderful tutorial! Extremely professional!
Sir, I have a question. Is there any possibility that we can use Zoom H5n Pro to record the voice from this RØDE NT-USB Mini instead of using a PC? In other words, does Zoom H5n Pro has the input capability to accept USB microphones as well, just like Zoom H5n has the XLR-inputs capability for the XLR microphones?
Please reply!
The reason is that I feel upset when Windows 10 gives me nightmares setting up USB microphones.
I actually don’t know. If I were gong to use that recorder, I would consider a different mic, like the RodeVideoMic NTG.
Excellent review, very useful. Thanks for sharing. Seems like this is the one for me. I like 'unobtrusive' 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Glad it was helpful!
@@BasicFilmmaker and some! Your channel is an oasis of quality on an ocean of mediocre (I’m being kind) that is UA-cam. Love your style, good work that man 👍👍👍
@@anthonycrothers5420 Thank you!!
Worth every penny :)
Agreed!
Ride had done it again. Amazing mic
Totally. They are kicking out awesome stuff recently.
Hello, I don't have a sound proof room, I have a lil studio apartment, and I need it for life stream work, I am an interpreter, I tent to use my keyboard, my mouse, or sometimes take notes on my Ipad when I do consecutive, do you know how does this mic deal with background noise? I just got a nice Tasktar GX6 condenser microphone, and it catches everything! even I a move my finger on my laptop's mouse!
I think before going after a new microphone, you can take steps to kill off that noise. Something as simple as sound blankets on the floor and walls around you will really really help kill off all the reverberation. Also, if you can mount the mic off the table and near your mouth, you’ll be able to drop the input volume of your microphone,Get less background noise, thank you won’t hear all those keyboard and mouse clicks. Try that and let me know how it works out.
Pretty good, sounds better than the seiren mini, snowball ice, and fifine 669.
My Dell 9570 computer has a terrible sound card, so I always bypass it. I use a Samson CO2 mic to a Saramonic SmartRig+ to an inexpensive analog to USB convertor. I made an AC adaptor for the SmartRig+ so this ghetto rig stays on my desk, available for Skype and voice over on screen captures. This MINI looks like a cleaner option than my ghetto rig!
LOL! Neat setup. Yes, I think this would be much cleaner.
That sounds pretty good!
Hey Michael! Yeah, for $99, I'm pretty impressed! And...new channel banner - DUDE STUFF. Sweet! :)
Thank you sir! Gonna be switching up the channel stuff soon. All "Dude Stuff" :D
Nice. 👍
might order it
If it meets your needs, it's about the best at this price range I've found.
@@BasicFilmmaker ive thought of buying the SL150 from Editors Keys, what do you think?
@@FLTRVevo Haven't touched it. Looks legit.
I am using mac but in the box of this mic there is only USB cable, no USB-C cable that can be plugged into my mac. What is your advice?
No USB on Mac? I would get an adapter, or reach out to Rode. They're quite responsive.
@@BasicFilmmaker I am very upset when opening the box and see only RODE cable to connect to USB port only while MacBook pro has only USBC
Would this be good for video conferencing? Curious how much background noise it’ll pick up.
Interesting. I think it would work great. Like all mics, keeping it near the mouth always has the best results.
Sounds great. It almost disappears in shot at your computer. Really unnoticeable.
I’m going to have to test the sound quality against the SM 7B. Hopefully it doesn’t sound as good, or better, then my $400 microphone. LOL! 😁
Sir,
May i seek your expert opinion on “ RODE NT USB Mini” microphone.
Please tell me-
-is this microphone class compliant,
- this mic is probably supplied with a USB-C cable, so does this cable work with latest APPLE Tablets having Usb-C PORT,
- is it required to buy separately a” MFI certified cable “ to work with apple tablets( usb-C) for using apple preinstalled APPS
Thanks and Regards
Dilip, India
You would have to buy a cable adapter.don’t know about “latest” but does work with existing.
You had me at magnetic stand.
😂😂😂
It is better than blue yeti classic?
thx for your review i m order now......lol
Hope you like it! I think it's the best buy/value for the money right now in 2020.
It is a great
Sir can you suggest / or make a video of best mic under 150$ for recording vocal for producing music tracks.
Love from India 🇮🇳 and what you do is really hats off.
For that price, I would suggest the one in this video.
I love the size and I want it to use it with my Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus when using Instagram & Facebook live and recording my podcast
Yeah, for $99 it's still my fav.
@@BasicFilmmaker sweet thanks I subscribed
@JAG yes 💯
@JAG i do not
Thanks Jag!
Cute Lil mic.
Other than ADR, is this a mic you could see yourself using, Darious?
D4Darious Thanks D! I didn't think it would sound this good. Bit surprised.
Can you give a recommendation on a reasonable price stand like the one your using in your video?
There are many. The one I use is this one amzn.to/2WTDcXY at about $69 and is very popular. You can check it out, then search for others cheaper, but I'm not the guy to save $30 on something then have it continually be a PITA to use or have it break.
Can I use it in ipad mini 5 ? With a lightening cable
With adapter should be no problem.
Can i use this directly with my galaxy s10 plus via type a to type c connecter ?
I think that’s true. I’m reluctant to say yes as I don’t have that phone.
Can you connect it using xlr cable?
No XLR Jack. But as you saw in the video, I used the headphone jack to go into the MixPre 3, so an XLR adapter would work too in that fashion.
Want to know does it work on Android smartphone. (Samsung)
Is it one of those microphones that that's good for recording two people? Or do you need to be pretty close
As in bipolar pickup pattern (front and back)? If so, then no.
If you mean to ask if it is usable for two people placed in front of it for a single mic recording, then yes; just be within a 90° spread in front of the mic for best results.
However, this mic is incredibly quiet, which means your environment needs to be quieter than the self noise of the mic to have that truly low noise floor.
Ridge Mallery - My Journey To Wealth Yep. Insanejughead nailed it. :)
I didn't know it was possible to connect usb microphones to audio interfaces, how did you do that?
Yeah. Just for the heck of it, I used a connection from the headphone jack of the mic into the MixPre-3. I thought, yeah, that's not going to work. It sounded awesome, and I was impressed with the headphone output on this. Very clean.
This could be a solution for a talkback mic for the Audient id44...
Huh! Never would have thought of that one. Great tip!
how much did you set the gain?
Man, I don’t recall what the gain was set at. Sorry.
Does PC audio come through the headphone output on the back, or is it only for mic monitoring?
Good question Julian. It only monitors the mic itself. To monitor everything, you would headphone the computer.
@@BasicFilmmaker thanks mate!
The microphone can be selected as a sound output source in your OS (I've tried on Windows and Ubuntu; likely also possible on Mac), and all the computer's audio will be fed through it. The headphone jack can then be used to listen to the computer's audio, in addition to the sound recorded by the microphone (if you turn on the monitoring). I know I'm almost a year late, but just thought I'll let you know anyway. :)
@@osof3tos I was also wondering if this is possible. Good to know that it is, thanks!
How's the noise cancellation though? Do surrounding noises get picked up easily by it?
Not so much. It does well. I was in the untreated office editing area doing this on the computer and didn't notice any discernible noise from outside. Obviously, if you have a super reverberant room you should use some sound blankets or something.
@@BasicFilmmaker thanks ☺️
@@mkmarak 👍
Hi, is it too sensitive while you typing on keyboard and talking on microphone?
It doesn't seem to be at all. I was using it during the video showing the computer and scrolling and clicking.
@@BasicFilmmaker thanks for info!
You bet. 👍
Oh Man, don’t know if i should get this mic or the normal rode nt usb in terms of pure sound quality, help!
Oy! Tough call. I don't have the normal NT to recommend. From the comparisons I've watched the Rode NT (non-mini) has a bit more of a richer sound. amzn.to/2PtRzxm
I have the big brother but I want to get the mini too. One thing you want to consider is that the mini is 24-bit while the other is 16.
@@ZzZz-py3nb Oh! Well that's a reason for the mini, at least for me. THANKS!!
While plugged in to the pc with the headphones plugged in the back of the mic, does all audio from the pc is played or just the voice picked from the mic?
Just the voice.
@@BasicFilmmaker oh ok, thanks
Sure. The usual thing you would do is get it all setup, then monitor it from the computer.
@@BasicFilmmaker is that standard with all the usb mics that have headphone jack? A friend of mine has zoom recorder that doubles as a sound car when plugged to the pc?
Yes. The headphone jack is a monitor like a speaker. It lets you hear and adjust the mic. That way you’re not messing with the mic when it’s something else in the chain. The zoom is an entirely different beast. Think of it as you plug a mic into your computer and things don’t sound right or you can hear it. Mic? Computer? You plug in headphones and the mic is fine. Now you know it’s the computer.
This one or Blue Yeti Nano? Need help deciding
Tough choice there. They are both great. If you’re also going to use this to jack into your phone or pad, I’d say this one.
@@BasicFilmmaker Would it make a difference if I'm recording long speeches or lectures/ voiceovers? I guess they are both great for that? I want ZERO background noise and none of that humming grainy buzzing sound on cheaper mics.
How is the background hiss via usb?
I had very little if none. I was going to do another noise test but it was the same.
Kevin - The Basic Filmmaker Alright tganks mate!
👍
i hope it is better than my 30$ finefine k669b microphone people are complaining about my microphone .
It is.
just press the button and you can change to be mic control

Hi
How about noise cancelation in this microphone?
It's pretty good. As with any microphone, keeping it close to your mouth and away from noise sources is always best.

The Rodent Mic?😉
😂
RODENT-USB MINI Microphone. ❤😁❤😁
Someone didn't do their homework.
😂😂😂
all of their mics are the "RODE NT" i.e. "RODENT", it's a pun.
Test it with typing keyboard behind it..
When I was demoing the thing, you can hear me clicking and mousing. It does a good job of rejection.
how much?
As I said in the video, $99. Links in the description. amzn.to/3a6peVW
honest question.. if you did a blind test could you be fooled to think its a pro mic?
Hmm. I could be fooled. If I was listening to the SM7B at $400 and this one at $99, I'm not sure I could tell the difference to be honest.
Produce it in China. RODE makes a ton of profit for $99.00.
I think these are all produced directly in their Aus manufacturing facility. Check out their website.
why on earth would this guy change the color of a product he is reviewing knowing they do not make that color.
What ARE you talking about? The thumbnail? It's the lighting. If you watch the rest of the video you can clearly see the color. Guess this complaint makes no sense to me.
@@BasicFilmmaker Lighting? why is NOTHING else red? lol and I literally just posted this and I already have one like.
@@DoubleD72 That one like is from ME, as well as the one on this. I always like comments if people are willing to communicate. I still haven't quite gotten what your point is, and it's looking like you're just looking for an argument or just want to be right. Cool. You're right. Done now? Thanks.
@@BasicFilmmaker Why on earth would you like a comment from someone that is calling you out on something. the point is I clicked this link BECAUSE it was RED. I have a Scheme. a RED scheme. it is a mic and sure the color doesn't effect what it does. but when you present something like you did in thumbnail it can cause a confusion. kinda like this. lol. argue all you want but I do have a point.
@@DoubleD72 I explained already, and calling me out? LOL! I now understand you are upset as you clicked a thumbnail and thought the mic was red. No argument there.Oh yeah, why would I like a comment? I'm a nice person and think anyone should be acknowledged for taking the time to communicate.
Biggest bullshit said here is you need to plug another feature. Rode NT mini is built simpy to connect to your computer or recording devices. No less no more. Simly as that. Don't need another preamplification. For using as studio mic it is nonsense tu put another effect. You can simply find better mics.

first dislike :pog:
It happens.
With all due respect, we want to see less of your face and more gadgets. At the end of the video the black microphone, on a black background, does not allow seeing anything.
Noted.
Sounds horrible
Wow! Really? What are you listening to this through? Everyone else seems to think differently.
@@BasicFilmmaker being honest, listening from macbook speakers
Business Momo Yeah, that’s cool. Was sincerely interested on why it sounds horrible to you when so many others think it sounds great. Thanks!
@@BasicFilmmaker sounds too sharp, makes your voice sound like it came out of a cheap mic.
Got it. Thanks.
