    Doesn't work if I'm filming outdoors on a surface that is not level.

    This only work if you on a level ground. If you put the tripod up in like a small slope, it wouldn't work. What's the easiest way they? Open up one leg like you did here then just hold it level and let the two other legs fall out until they hit the ground and lock t hem.

    • @BasicFilmmaker

      Correct. This answers the viewer's particular question for level ground. Obviously wouldn't work on aslope. For a slope, your tip Is exactly correct. Thanks!

    Great advice. I’ve always just brought with me some quick set concrete and I mix a batch, level it out with a screed and make sure it’s level with a marble. Works every time. But that’s just me. I reckon some peeps might find this quick hack a little confusing Kevin. 😂😂🤪🤪

    Hi Kevin, the way we teach our students is to place the tripod on its feet open the legs, part the way then unlock the lower section first then lift it by the head to the height you need and lock the legs. You will find that doing it this way you will need to do very little if any leveling of the head.

    Ive been using a tape measure to measure the height i want the camera at then i calculate the length the tripod leg should be by using paragarium theorem. Finally, using the tape measure again I extend the legs to the proper length. Your way seems much less accurate.

    Keep in mind that this "trick" will only work if the ground the tripod is on is perfectly level as well. If the ground is not level you will either need to adjust the legs or have a leveling mount, in which case you'll want an actual level in your bag (which you should have anyway).

    • @BasicFilmmaker
      @BasicFilmmaker  5 місяців тому +2

      Yep. Fortunately this and many tripods come with a built-in level.

    How do you balance the tripod head then? Or the tripod ball head?

    • @BasicFilmmaker
      @BasicFilmmaker  3 роки тому +2

      Balance? Or you were trying to achieve a specific balance for something, or you’re just looking to make sure that everything is level. And almost all video ads and tripods there’s usually a small level that shows you it’s balanced or not. You can also buy very cheap levels that clip on two cameras tripods and more. Many cameras Have built in level meters where you can see the forward and backward and side to side leveling write on the back screen. As far as mounting a bunch of care on top of a tripod head and a video head, and making sure it’s balanced that way. It’s pretty easy to loosen up the video head and make sure the thing sits properly.

    • @BasicFilmmaker

      Assuming it's a good tripod it's nearly there. It's a quick way to set the height THEN make minor adjustments to exact level without fumbling around. It's something to try.

      LOL! Then you’re not a beginner. All joking aside, this is made for the most used case when you’re shooting on level ground, and a quick way not to be messing around ith the legs as many people new to tripods do. On non-level ground, you need either the in-camera leveler or a level or good eyeballs.
