Responding to own comment to get it out of the "comments not responded to" queue. Notified UA-cam, not fixed yet. :)
Doesn't work if I'm filming outdoors on a surface that is not level.
Correct. This answers the viewer's particular question. Thanks!
This only work if you on a level ground. If you put the tripod up in like a small slope, it wouldn't work. What's the easiest way they? Open up one leg like you did here then just hold it level and let the two other legs fall out until they hit the ground and lock t hem.
Correct. This answers the viewer's particular question for level ground. Obviously wouldn't work on aslope. For a slope, your tip Is exactly correct. Thanks!
Great advice. I’ve always just brought with me some quick set concrete and I mix a batch, level it out with a screed and make sure it’s level with a marble. Works every time. But that’s just me. I reckon some peeps might find this quick hack a little confusing Kevin. 😂😂🤪🤪
Oh yes. Very nice tip there!!
Thank you Kevi. Your simple instructions work!
Hi Kevin, the way we teach our students is to place the tripod on its feet open the legs, part the way then unlock the lower section first then lift it by the head to the height you need and lock the legs. You will find that doing it this way you will need to do very little if any leveling of the head.
Good tip.
Life saver thank you!
Awesome! Thanks!
I bought a cold shoe bubble level for when I am filming out in the wild.
Good tip!
Wow never seen this before. I can’t wait to try this on my next Sunday setup, thank you.
You bet. For unlevel surface, as one person commented, open one leg and hold it level, let the two other legs out until they meet the ground and lock them down.
Thanks Kevin! I never actually have seen anyone set up a tripod. I appreciate all you do brother!
Thanks Shane. I've watched people struggle with this.
Great tip... Thanks Kevin. Have a nice weekend!
Thanks! You too!
Ive been using a tape measure to measure the height i want the camera at then i calculate the length the tripod leg should be by using paragarium theorem. Finally, using the tape measure again I extend the legs to the proper length. Your way seems much less accurate.
(I just use a clawball bubble level)
Really? Why troll a nice mans video like this?
@@BurkenProductions 😂 just a bit of humor
LOL! Sweet! I also believe calling in a civil engineer as part of the crew helps too. 😂😂😂
Great tip !
Thank you! I should've also mentioned for unlevel surfaces open one leg and hold it level, let the two other legs out until they meet the ground and lock them down.
Keep in mind that this "trick" will only work if the ground the tripod is on is perfectly level as well. If the ground is not level you will either need to adjust the legs or have a leveling mount, in which case you'll want an actual level in your bag (which you should have anyway).
Yep. Fortunately this and many tripods come with a built-in level.
also a good idea: ballhead!
For sure.
Using a tripod with ball mount, what is best way to level for PANNING? I'm guessing just buying a leveling base is the way to go.
Correct.
Pure genius.😉
Thanks Stan! Also should have mentioned for unlevel surfaces open one leg and hold it level, let the two other legs out until they meet the ground and lock them down.
The quickest way is to get the Grip to do it.
LOL! True that Graeme!
How do you balance the tripod head then? Or the tripod ball head?
Balance? Or you were trying to achieve a specific balance for something, or you’re just looking to make sure that everything is level. And almost all video ads and tripods there’s usually a small level that shows you it’s balanced or not. You can also buy very cheap levels that clip on two cameras tripods and more. Many cameras Have built in level meters where you can see the forward and backward and side to side leveling write on the back screen. As far as mounting a bunch of care on top of a tripod head and a video head, and making sure it’s balanced that way. It’s pretty easy to loosen up the video head and make sure the thing sits properly.
I use the moon alignment method... lol yea right
😂😂😂
goat
Any tips for colour balancing, in camera.... at weddings etc.?!.... Please! 😁
Ah! Let's look at that one in a video soon. Thanks Martin!
yeah that works great on a flat road, not on an inclined environment.
I have found setting up a tripod on plush carpet can be problematic.
Many of these have claw feet to help with that.
The great outdoors, ramps, and stairs: *"Time to ruin this tripod user's life."*
This answers the viewer's particular question for level ground. For unlevel surface, as one person commented, open one leg and hold it level, let the two other legs out until they meet the ground and lock them down.
But that doesn’t mean it’s level?
Assuming it's a good tripod it's nearly there. It's a quick way to set the height THEN make minor adjustments to exact level without fumbling around. It's something to try.
I want to congratulate your wife on marrying a tripoder.
LOL! :)
And if the ground isn't level?
LOL! Then you’re not a beginner. All joking aside, this is made for the most used case when you’re shooting on level ground, and a quick way not to be messing around ith the legs as many people new to tripods do. On non-level ground, you need either the in-camera leveler or a level or good eyeballs.
@@BasicFilmmaker I have another problem being partially sighted doesn't help so I need all the help I can get lol👍🇬🇧
@@derekwilcox2202 I'm thinking buyng one of those attachable levels would be the thing for you. Haven't used these, but maybe works. amzn.to/3oI0xHW
@@BasicFilmmaker it's mad when you're eyesight is going ,the daft thing is I'm a retired plasterer angle's and level was done by eye but I'm blind in my left eye lol where I live is the edge of the Pennines,I need an assistant lol anyway clear skies thanks for the help 😃🇬🇧
@@derekwilcox2202 You bet. No idea about the condition - guess maybe practicing with a level until you re-train the eye? Interested to know how that works out.
You've been sounding a bit hoarse lately, or is it just my imagination?
